Alternate Current - "Borrowed Language" (6:22)
Dreadmaul & Tobe:n - "Homunculus" (6:08)
LCP - "Off Limits" (5:22)
Books - "Cosine" (4:57)
Review: Fresh off the back of Cryptographic's intense 'Echo' release comes this fitting V/A from the ever-intriguing Swiss experimental 170 label Re:st. Music to realign our Covid-ravaged chakras to 'Re:align' introduces three new names to the label; Alternate Current steams out of the gates with a dub techno juggernaut 'Borrowed Language' while Dreadmaul & Tobe:n whip a rhythmic stampede that's screaming to be unleashed on a big system with 'Homunculus'. Flip for two slightly more cosmic tales as label founder LCP gently pats us down with the trickling lolloping loops of 'Off Limits' before Books signs us out with the sparse and skippy 'Cosine'. Refine your alignments.

Daniele Baldelli - "Promeni" (5:21)
GNMR - "Modulo Rmx Downtempo V1" (6:49)
Tagliabue - "Sogno Cosmico" (9:29)
Simone Bauer - "Gigantomachia" (5:53)
Review: Legendary label Le Disque celebrates its 35th Anniversary with this new various artists EP offering up the sort of sumptuous sounds it is so well known for. Cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli gets first with the driving Italo techno-disco of 'Promeni' while GNMR bangs the box with his leggy 909 drum pings and heady synth swirls on 'Modulo Rmx Downtempo V1.' On the flip, Tagliabue's 'Sogno Cosmico' is a deep and pulsing techno cut that roams at a slower tempo but is no less effective, then Simone Bauer's 'Gigantomachia' is a hyperactive and cutting edge rhythm piece that never sits still and is dark as you like in its ritualistic dance manoeuvres.

Ohm & TM Shuffle - "We Penetrate Them" (8:09)
Atart - "JNVPE" (Genning remix) (7:08)
DJ <3 - "Uyar" (7:29)
Review: MixCult present another various artists 12" of sleek minimal tech and dub tech grooves for discerning DJs, leading in with the shimmering metallic cloudbursts of Bruit Blanc and Moodeep's 'Sunshine'. Ohm & TM Shuffle follow that up with the dreamy, rainy day deepness of 'We Penetrate Them' before Genning remixes Atart's 'JNVPE' into a tightly-wound tripper for the late hours of the dance. DJ <3 gets to send the record off in style with 'Uyar', a contemplative cut laced with downcast synth undulations and a steady-ticking rhythmic undercarriage. If you prefer your 4/4 with a liberal side serving of introspection, this is the record for you.

The 1987 EP
Cat: SS 012. Rel: 21 Aug 01
Leon Carson - "China Trax" (8:32)
Theo Parrish - "Insane Asylum" (9:57)
Review: Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980's! "China Trax", alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12", is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it's not just the year it was made in that's interesting but also the fact that it's music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Theo's own "Insane Asylum" on the flipside is also pretty monumental; rigged beats, off-kilter grooves and that familiar spontaneity so heavily associated to the label.

Client 03 - "Regression Container" (5:53)
Sterac Electronics - "Reinstated" (5:38)
The Advent & Zein Ferreira - "Seven" (5:41)
Christian Smith - "Pressure Drop" (4:14)
Review: Those with a deep knowledge of electro and techno will be salivating at the prospect of More Than A Machine: Part 1, an EP that boasts cuts from such legends of the scene as Sterac Electronics, The Advent and Christian Smith. All deliver the goods, of course, as does rising star Client 03, whose EP-opening 'Regression Container' brilliantly flips between shimmering, deep space ambient and warming, tactile electro dreaminess. Those looking for more rugged and robust club fare should check Sterac Electronics 'Reinstated', with its' out-there lead lines and machine-gun bass, and the sleazy, up-tempo futurism of the Adveny and Zein Ferreira's 'Seven'. Christian Smith's deep, Kraftwerk-influenced 'Pressure Drop' rounds off a predictably strong EP.

Vectorvision - "Beta Cloud" (5:06)
Textasy - "Goron" (4:03)
Cygnus - "Pink Lipstick" (feat Dolly Vicious) (3:10)
Review: Could there be a new techno sound emerging from the depths of the Texas desert? Kind of like the Vancouver house sound, but a bit grainer and dustier? Perhaps, yes, and Texas Recordings Underground might just be the ticket. It's a five-person lockdown here, and the emergent Cygnus delivers to stone cold electro chillers in "Make The Brain Relax" and "Pink Lipstick"; not your ordinary kind of electro, something in between Drexciya and the house sound of Chicago - excellent. We also have ERP aka Convextion with "Tandy Center", a rolling, cybernetic techno-morph; Vectorvision with the dripping synths of "Beta Cloud", and "Goron" by Textasy, a metallic, drum-led piece with an eerie vibe. A total winner, and something of a regional debut from the US! Keep it comin'.

Toki Fuko - "9128" (6:51)
Virya - "Dome" (4:56)
Review: MBMUSIC Ltd is a fledging label that serves up its first various artist release here. It is an enthralling five-tracker that opens up with the ocean-deep atmospheric techno of Daniel[i]'s 'Contemplate.' MBM then gets more busy with the percussive clatter of 'Crystalline' and Polygonia's aqueous dub techno roller 'Pearl Of Nian' is another unusual sound that draws you in deep. Toki Fuko's '9128' is more menacing and sounds like a deserted factory floor after all the staff have left and V?RYA's 'Dome' is a twitchy and restless broken beat excursion that has you looking over your shoulder.

Test 3 (7:10)
Review: The now ten year old 'Acid Test 09' sees a special tenth Anniversary Edition repress with a new vocal mix of the track 'Test 3'. The original EP, released in 2014, saw acid nomad Tin Man team up with techno dreamweaver Donato Dozzy for three slices of deep acid and dubby, bleepy ambient; this special anniversary version adds a surprise new vocal mix on the A2, with either Dozzy or Tin Man himself gracing the beats with a set of carefree, moony phonic impressions, lyrically concerning the object of his affections looking oh so good on the dancefloor. We already know and love the rest; it's up to you to put the new addition to the test.

The Ruffneck - "Phase Shift" (5:42)
Samix - "Technique Amiga" (4:06)
Review: Ninja Tune aren't the only wax shuriken-touting dance gesticulators on the block. Lumbago Records are their reissuing rivals; hailing from France, this anonymous pair focus on rereleasing long-lost dance cuts from the crates, new and old, compiling them into short EPs. Scratchy electro and breaks bits from EFX and Samix time travel all the way from 1991 ('Technique Amiga' sounds like it's lifted straight from an early Lara Croft soundtrack), and are reconciled with two tracks made in the last 5 years - and one bang in between from 2001, The Ruffneck's 'Phase Shift'. An impressive exercise in cross-generation reconciliation. Electro will never die!

Review: Siamese Twins Nic Ford, Khun Fluff, and Temple Rat team up with sonic reinterpreters Jonathan Kusuma, Konduku and Higher Intelligence Agency, for the Katha Remixes - adding to the recently popularised genre of amphibious techno. While the label Siamese Twins normally go for cassette, this neat precision V/A release is a yellow vinyl number. Like a noctile toad stalking the night, the tracks here range from dark organic chuggers to jumpy synaptors to melodic bloopers, all reflecting different facets of the amphibian master genome.

Tal Fussman - "Waiting" (4:59)
Loloman - "The Wall" (Laurent Garnier rework) (7:42)
The Lost Souldancer - "No More Voices" (7:34)
Review: This compilation brings together a diverse array of electronic music talent, showcasing a range of styles and moods. Laurent Garnier's 'Back Where I Belong (Solaris Mix)' kicks things off with a hypnotic and atmospheric journey, its pulsating rhythms and ethereal melodies setting the stage for a sonic adventure. Tal Fussman's 'Waiting' takes a more introspective approach, its delicate textures and subtle grooves creating a sense of anticipation and intrigue. Loloman's 'The Wall (Laurent Garnier Rework)' injects a dose of energy, with Garnier's reinterpretation adding a driving intensity to the original track. The Lost Souldancer's 'No More Voices' closes the compilation with a deep and hypnotic exploration, its atmospheric textures and pulsating rhythms creating a mesmerising soundscape. This is a release that will appeal to a wide range of electronic music enthusiasts, offering something for those who appreciate both the introspective and the energetic sides of the genre.

DJ Polywog - "Frogs In The Fog" (Eternal Injections Spiral Swamp dub) (6:40)
Review: Transmigration marks its fifth release with a focus on overlooked psychedelic dance music from around the world, all of which blends acid, techno and rave. Ghoti's 'Rubble' gets things underway with rolling bass and menacing synth energy. Third Eye then ups the ante with molten acid lines and sleek deep techno drums on 'Ancient Future' which is an apt title. DJ Polywog then takes care of the B-side with 'Frogs In The Fog', a swampy and menacing cut with wispy synths lacerating a deep and dubby groove then Eternal Injections Spiral Swamp dub is even more heady and otherworldly.

Transformer 2 - "Fruit Of Love" (Denham Audio & Borai Audio Redux) (6:00)
Transformer 2 - "Fruit Of Love" (Borai dub) (5:54)
Review: A couple of years back, the revitalised Hooj Choons label released an album of orchestra-sporting covers of classic dance cuts of the 1990s under the HEO: Hooj Ensemble Orchestra tag, then got rave revivalists Borai and Denham Audio to remix their new version of trance classic 'Cafe Del Mar'. Here those mixes - a frankly filthy, bass-propelled 'Rave Booty' mix and a more acid-flecked, grandiose breakdown-sporting 'Pluck Dub' - finally make it onto wax, alongside the Club Glow duo's similarly previously digital-only reworks of Transformer 2's early 90s 'Hooj' classic 'Fruit of Love'. More tactile and loved up, with tactile bass, pleasing pianos and glassy-eyed vocal snippets, the pair's 'Redux' mix is simply sublime, while Borai's solo dub is a deliciously dreamy, rush-inducing affair that sounds like a future rave classic.

Review: Jumpin' & Pumpin' looks back into the seminal archives of The Future Sound of London here to reissue their fantastic The Pulse EP from 2008 which also featured tunes from Manchester pair Indo Tribe. It is they who start with 'Bring In The Pulse' which features some Happy Mondays hallelujahs, mad rave whistles and bristling electronic breaks. 'In The Mind Of A Child' (First Born mix) is then a bouncy techno cut with more visceral synth and acid lines and The Future Sound Of London kick off the flipside with 'Hardhead' (Frothin' At The Mouth mix) which is an assault of breaks, congas, whistles and rave signifiers. 'Pulse State' (831 AM mix) is that perfect tune to zone out to on a late night drive on the motorway.

On this one, we've got Aussie Juliet Fox with some pure peak time energy on "Evolution Of Thinking" followed on the A side by Thomas Hoffknecht's "Break Free" - an absolutely euphoric main room affair featuring classic trance motifs. Review: We've been enjoying the first few volumes of Selador Recordings's Magic Black Plastik series and this fourth one keeps the quality levels high. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

Review: Six releases in and Michigander label head Brian Kage teams up with the legendary French Techno producer, Taho, aka David Jacopin. The electronic music world knows to put respect on the Motor City, but the "Detroit EP" represents a fusion, emphasizing l'accent aigu - not a typo or spec on your screen that needs cleaning. Between Kage and Taho, their production pedigree includes releases for labels like FXHE, Planet-E, Delsin, F.Comm, and more, so it's no surprise the pairing makes for a masterfully produced EP covering the spectrum of Detroit house and techno sounds, with an added deft touch from its French connection.

Review: Hybrid Collective is a new label set out to bring together all forms of electro. The first release is a powerful statement of intent that draws together a crack team of sonic explorers who are all hell bent on blowing up the dance floor. The brand of extra the opener explores is industrial and mechanical, with Kim Cosmik's 'The Ascent' twisting metal and contorting synths into a ragged rhythm. The Droid's 'Upgrade' is a more futuristic blend of cyborg funk and Broken Joe's 'Fallen Crane' is full of spooky lines and jittery rhythms. Ekata's 'Dark Drive' rounds out with a straight ahead banger.

Review: After last years well received mini-LP, Lost Trax and The Connection Machine are back in cahoots for another round on the ever-blooming Tabernacle Records. There's something undeniably 'Artificial Intelligence' about the kind of techno crafted by this shadowy meeting of minds, full of colourful squelches and emotive pads. The Lost Trax sound is far more propulsive, with a clattering sound palette challenging adventurous DJs, whilst The Connection Machine scoops through the debris left behind to make some compelling downtempo cuts. Torrent - "Stay In The Loop" (5:11)

Review: Griffe launches its own new split series here with Mama and Torrent kicking things off. Mama goes first with a pair of potent techno cuts. 'Electric Pjack' opens up with some acidic lines spraying about a tightly assembled groove with sliding hi-hats and well-syncopated beats. 'Cyber Pjack' then gets a little darker with a more menacing low end and snappy drums keeping the beats upright. Torrent's two cuts keep the future feels alive with the mechanical grooves and malfunctioning sounds of 'Stay In The Loop' and 'Ex Machina' shuts down with some frazzled synths adding texture to the metallic drum sounds.

Review: Spanish producer Alex Martin went under many aliases since the early '90s, many of which are featured here on this EP packed full of unreleased classics from his archives which come to you courtesy of O.C.D (Open Channel For Dreamers). As A3K, the Barcelona-based veteran released only two EPs between '98 - '99, but the never before heard exclusive 'Left Blank' kicks off the A side, followed by 'Offtune' under his Sideral alias where he traversed genres diverse as techno, acid and even trance. On the flip, he presents some early UK tech house flavour on 'Pilot' and some intelligent Detroit techno similar to Carl Craig on 'I'm Still There' (as Iberian).

Regent - "Moorgate" (5:50)
Hertz Collision X Programma 101 - "Concrete Skin" (5:03)
Rebecca Delle Piane - "Ten Dosis Of Melatonin" (4:11)
Disguised - "Kaki" (5:12)
Temudo - "In Chains" (Cleric 2/10 remix) (5:45)
Review: British label Clergy marks a decade in the game with a special 12" featuring a range of artists who have ties to the imprint. Stef Mendesidis comes with the trance tinged overtones of 'Hydra' and its slamming drums and bass blend. Regent's 'Decoder' is a more minimal sound but unfurls high speed with a deep vibe and Hertz Collision/Programma 101's 'Concrete Skin' is all about masterful loops and eerie synths. On the flip, 'Rebecca Delle Piane stands out with the heady minimalism and 90s techno vibes of 'Ten Doses Of Melatonin'.

Velo-City (6:03)
Traveller (6:21)
Soul 440 (Vril remix) (5:55)
Review: Thomas P. Heckmann is back with a new outing under his Metric System moniker. His return to Kontakt brings fresh house depths with opener 'Velo-City' kicking off in urgent fashion with quickened drums and spoiling synths locking you in. 'Traveller' is a dubbed out cut with a fleshy, liquid low end filled with reverb and echoing hits that disappear off to the horizon. Last of all is 'Soul 440' (Vril remix) which ups the pace and brings sleek dub house energy and majestic cosmic synth details. All three of these are nice and cultured cuts.

Miss Crazy Bullshit (4:47)
Loving The Alien (4:19)
Review: It's been some six years since Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve and Michel "The Hacker" Amato last delivered fresh material together. While we await further news of their long-mooted comeback, there's this tasty EP of previously unheard archive material to enjoy. Made up of tracks recorded between 1997 and '99 - when their production partnership was in its' infancy - The Lost Tracks Volume 1 contains a number of fuzzy, stylish, floor-friendly bangers, from the S&M-themed madness of opener "Leather Forever" and stripped-back electro gem "Nightlife" (a tribute to Berlin clubs of the period, apparently), to the high-tempo acid-loaded freakishness of "Loving The Alien". Top-notch sleaze.

Sibling - "Soundscapes" (6:44)
TM Shuffle - "Skyline" (7:06)
Submoon - "Remote Viewers" (6:59)
Review: The Vuo label's Elemental Mood Series hits a fifth volume now and still the goods keep on coming with no dips in quality. Modernism opens up with 'Computational One', a deep rolling minimal house cut with dub warmth and deft designs. Sibling brings a little more texture to 'Soundscapes' with its frosty chord work and TM Shuffle's 'Skyline' then explores the bottom of the ocean with its nice icy hi hats and liquid rhythms. Submoon closes down with 'Remote Viewers', a far sighted and cosmic-tinged dub tech roller.

The Bass Theory (6:52)
Killer Fruit (5:37)
Review: Italian house lover Fabio Monesi returns to his Wilson label - named and styled after that unforgettable volleyball in Castaway - with a collab EP next to Tom Carruthers. It's rooted in traditional tropes from the 90s and US scenes starting with the kicking, retro flavours of 'Mi Amor' before 'The Bass Theory' brings on, yep, some more heavy bass-driven grooves. Last of all is the more synth-laden 'Killer Fruit' which is a triumph in drum programming that will enliven any crowd.

ROD - "Extra" (4:16)
Sterac - "Scientific Methods" (7:16)
Troy - "Flux" (5:37)
Heiko Laux - "Dark Fader" (4:25)
Review: Coming through with a steamrolling selection of techno tracks form the underbelly of Berlin's scene, it's the second chapter of the Klocksworks 20! Once again, newcomers and vintage favourites align on this collection of "perfectionist" techno; New debuts with the militant bass waves of "Dance Of The Warrior", while Holland's mighty Dax J turns in a violent wave of 90s reminiscent techno on "Late Night MIstress". The hyped-up ROD's "Extra" offers an unexpected wave of ambient delight, whereas Steve Rachmad aka Sterac returns with "Scientific Methods" in what is a shivering gunshot of industrial bleakness. Troy's "Flux", as the name suggests, hypnotises the dance floor with its heavy wash of drums and grey-scaled bass, leaving legend Heiko Laux to head for the dub wise flow on the masterfully deranged and distorted waves of "Dark Fader".

Review: Max Ravitz aka Patricia has collaborated with Tin Man as Ociya before now on the Acid Test 10 year compilation and now the pair have put together a whole new album's worth of material. It is getting released across a series of 12"s and this is the first. The vibe is nuanced and cinematic techno with elastic rhythms and plenty of melancholic acid, smeared synths and slow burning atmospheres that have your mind wandering off on its own. It's intimate and introverted techno for those who like small back room experiences.

Bas Dobblelaer - "Coincidence" (6:05)
Tarik Hensen - "Dimma Lyset" (6:44)
Kloor - "Snowcone" (7:00)
Review: Having broken their run of multi-artist EPs earlier this year via a fine debut album from Lost Epcot, Appian Sounds reverts to type with another compilation style 12" featuring four formidable cuts. Outlier sets the tone via the off-kilter audio haziness of "Adrift", an atmospheric ambient cut full of gentle melodies, distant jazz drums and field recordings, while Bas Dobblelaer delivers the melancholic, emotion-rich shuffle of "Coincidence", which sits somewhere between hypnotic minimal techno and early 90s IDM. On the flip Tarik Hensen ups the tempo and intensity on the locked-in deep space techno hypnotism of "Dimma Lyset", before Kloor offers up a slightly bouncier and even more intergalactic interpretation of rolling techno bliss.

Frozilla & TJ - "Ocean Of Existence" (5:35)
Review: Soon as you drop the needle on PH Project's opener 'Blue Yellow Twist' here we guarantee you will be twisting your face in mock disc guts. The bassline is a filthy and old-school gem with organ chord stabs and spoken word snippets adding the irresistible sense of naughty house funk. DMA then bangs the box with cosmic synths and hints of 90s post-rave, Pilot System cruise on a chunky bit of bass-driven house and Frozilla & TJ go deep on far-sighted chords and bubbly bass. This is unpretentious, functional but fun house music from a small but already well-formed label.

Review: Khidi kick stars a new Anniversary Series with a first volume that showcases the label's unique take on techno. It is Blueprint legend James Ruskin that opens up with his rusted loops and fizzing synths on 'Kite.' Yanamaste's 'Magma' is then an eerie and empty dub that sounds like being lost in an old warehouse on your own. Tensal brings the rave with his hammering drum power and flashing synths on 'Psychic Radio' while Phase Fatale & Reka close things down with the jack-hammer beats of 'No Esperes Mas.'
