Earshots (3:07)
Earshots (extended mix) (4:32)
Review: Sir Hiss and 4AM Kru set up a dialogue between London and Bristol, a stellar dialectic giving rise to a supreme form of lo-fi jungle. 'Earshots' samples a bhangra vocal cry, mixing it up with the scratchy factory movements of cut-throat jungular breaks. It marks a break from Sir Hiss' usual grime parlance, and adds to a refreshingly-named new series handled by their parent label Embrace The Real, called 'No More Mailouts', an explicit callout of PR in the electronic music industry which aims to lead by example. Power to em.

Tomorrow Will Never Be The Same (5:09)
Review: Foundation pioneer Jason Cambridge unleashes a right pair of beasts here on Australian imprint Compound. 'Flare' hits hard with a very little towards Dillinja's 'Hard Noize' era with the bite and jaggedness of the groove. 'Tomorrow Will Never Be The Same' shows us A Sides' more cosmic leanings. Sweeping out with a Marcus-like futuristic but simplistic sheen, there's a lot of latent emotion packed up in this one. Especially in the light of A Sides' right hand man Singing Fats passing away. RIP.

Pixl & Peeb - "Koi Fable" (5:49)
Sicknote & Escher - "Trouble Part 2" (5:48)
Review: Proper pristine, technical drum & bass here from the Transmute crew, expending far more effort than most junglists in fleshing out the body, weight and polish of each constituent sound. Mostly forgoing sampled breakbeats, the 'DUOS' EP hears refreshingly unusual sound design choices dance over a more straight-up rollage in the rhythm section(s). From the opening washer pads of Abstract Drumz & Optimystic's 'Energy To The Universe', to the closing techstep clanks of Sicknote & Escher's 'Trouble Part 2', this EP brings a variety of emotions to a gestalt whole, unified by its consistently clean production.

Review: Curing what ails you, Dokta Venom slaps down a full prescription pad at AKO HQ with four marvellous medicines. Following the heavyweight 'Dreadnox' on 'AKOizm Vol 4' last year, each of these tracks reveals a different side to this brutalist quack; 'Sound Lord' is pure 3am slammage, all bulldozer breaks and such, 'Eden's Rise' is a breezy pad-heavy goosebump bonanza while the title track 'The Artistic Truth' flips things with much more of a jazzy, abstract twist. Finally 'Speed Jazz' finishes the dosage on a mellow cosmic soul touch. Get well soon.

Black Piano (5:42)
Invisible (4:32)
Draw (5:40)
Review: Straight off the back off bossman LSB's 'Home' release in March, Alibi joins the Footnotes family with four superlative cuts. Most regularly spotted on V Recordings, the Sao Paulo goes extra deep for the occasion. 'Dismissed' sets the scene with a grumbling undercurrent of techno and acid in the blend. It's instantly countered by the North Quarter-esque reverse pads and gentle keys on 'Black Piano'. Flip for more golden soul 'Invisible' conjures similar feels to that of LSB with its stately but subtle piano while 'Draw' closes on another darker, late night mission. Powerful.

Alley Cats - "Gone" (5:59)
TTC - "Word On The Street" (2:39)
Alley Cats - "Sunflower Morning" (4:54)
Review: Holland's Cat In The Bag Records returns for a fresh addition to their Alley Cats series/alias, on which lead brain Tommy The Cat gathers the works of his various roster of mewlers, runts, slinkies, mogs and toms. What emerges is a crepuscular liquid jungle V/A that skews on a classic iteration of the sound; each tune here trusts its whiskers more than any other sense-organ, feeling its way through layers of lamplit atmosphere and each landing with the force of a cat with its back buttered. Opening with 'Walking Down Memory Lane', it recalls the work of old skool greats like Peshay, while TTC emerges for two new ones to top things up, offering up hip-hop breathing-rooms on 'Wat It Iz' and 'Word On The Street'.

The Eagle (6:07)
Elevation (4:48)
Review: Alphonse pens a love letter to jungle on this new EP for Klasse Wrecks. It's a flurry of drum breaks and powerful rhythms all served up through a classical lens with hefty bass underpinning each tune. This is a real journey into jungle with epic 12-minute plus opener 'Android Mash' twisting and turning through a flurry of tumbling snares, police sirens and yearning vocals. 'The Eagle' is a more soulful sound but still dense in its arrangement and tense in its rhythms. 'Elevation' closes down with plunging basslines and dark soul atmospheres.

Deep In The Jungle (7:15)
Review: Strap in for the latest transmissions from Amazon II, aka a collaboration between Tony B and Gavin King (aka Aphrodite) that has its roots playing on classic 90s hardcore station Pulse FM. This EP pulls together four of their best originals and each one brims with old school brilliance. 'Big Booya' opens at blistering speed, with wild spin backs and diva vocal cries. 'Control Yourself' will nail you to the floor with its precision drums and silky basslines, while 'Lovely Feeling' is more of a deep roller with killer soulful vox. There's an air of new age melody and heavily bliss to closer 'Deep In The Jungle' that leaves you feeling high.

Review: Aphrodite's Jungle Classics 94 To 96 presents a nostalgic trip back to the original jungle era with remastered tracks from the iconic releases APH-12, APH-13, APH-22, and APH-23. This limited edition vinyl release, curated by Triple Vision and Aphrodite Recordings, features timeless classics like 'Tower Bass,' 'Shine,' 'Wanted It More And More,' and the Booyaa Remix of 'Amazon II.' Mash Up You Know (6:40)

We Enter (Heavenly remix) (6:25)
Geni (Lost In Zanzibar) (5:48)
Review: Welsh jungle legend Aphrodite had a momentary sideline working with QED on the Aladdin project, and it yielded some truly legendary material. Now he's gathered some of the best joints together on this 12", buffed up with a fresh pressing which sounds positively compared to an OG copy getting on for 30 years old. First up you get the iconic 'Mash Up You Know' with its classic double bass drop, and then we slam straight into moody roller 'So Good'. 'We Enter (Heavenly Remix)' is another stone cold classic full of deft break edits, and then 'Geni (Lost In Zanzibar)' edges towards a techier sound which hints at the direction Aphrodite would head in as the 90s wore on. This is quite simply high grade stuff that's been out of print for too long.

Review: Apparel Wax on Apparel Music records has recently started a 7" series of which this is the third instalment of. These 45 DJ friendly records are sure to be hits with house music DJs and fans both. The music does the talking as the tracks are simply called 'Track 1' and 'Track 2'. The first blends jazz, funk into a house instrumental frenzy that has all the makings of a classic late night success. The second one is quite unusual and unique, adding a broken almost jungle beat that goes great with the piano. This gives us some real early 90s UK rave flashbacks! This versatile 7" should go over great with those who hear it!

Review: Bristol producer Arcane makes a monumental debut on Over/Shadow here with four tracks that have Brady caused plenty of carnage on global dancefloors. 'Minotaur' kicks off with a flurry of snares that are so snappy they will break your neck. 'Execute' is another dense packed rhythmic workout with blasts of horn, dark bass and drilling drum work while 'Warriah' then floats above then dancelfoor with its paranoid pads and stepping broken beat rhythms. This most high impact and physical of EPs shuts down with 'Spirit Chaser', a more pad laced cut but one that is no less driving.

Evening Sun
Review: A year on from their debut appearance, Archangel is back at it on Dutch d&b label Fokuz with more of the atmospheric, emotionally-charged gear they delivered on their two previous EPs. This is a suite of moody rollers in the cinematic sense of the term, all brooding melodic arrangement and forlorn vocals atop crisply programmed beats. Hiraeth's epic remix of 'Sound Of Silence' originally arrived on prior dici-only EP Android Waltz, but it was more than deserving of a chance to step out on wax, while Faction gets busy weaving deft tech step touches around 'Life Indoors'. It's a powerful, captivating listen from a talent firmly on an upward trajectory.

Review: Heads will know 'As We Enter' as the name of the Breakage tune that set the stage for many more things halftime to come - not to mention a Damian Marley & Nas song released around the same time - so we're more than pleased to learn that one next-gen producer has taken on the name as an alias. However, something in the aura of this release tells us this artist is no debutante; 'Lover To Lover' brings wubbing Reesebound rollage and summery fluting funk together in quick step, with complementary numbers 'So Gone', 'Come Again' and 'Shifting Gears' flaunting a respect for the many different facets of drum & bass, from techstep to early jump-up. This one gets more and more sinister as it progresses; despite the cover, whatever's entered the room feels more elephant than pigeon.

Review: 'As We Enter' is the first single from Nas and Damian Marley's collaborative album Distant Relatives and whether or not that influenced the also of this drum & bass producer we do not know. Musically there is little in common as this new EP shows - it is a hardcore mix of jostling amen breaks designed to be heard loud. 'Surrender' is backed with smeared pads that bring the soul and devastating low end bass, while 'Breezin' is a hyperactive sound that darts about all over the place. There is all out vocal wildness on 'Take Me' and last of all come more monstrous breakbeats and raved up synths on 'The Force.'

Review: Forever taking our brains to new dimensions, longstanding ambient/tech/jungle fusioneer ASC unleashes a few long-awaited cuts from his armoury. 'Shadowplay' takes the lead and will no doubt be the most supported track on the club side of things. Big splashy breaks and breezy pads rule the roots on this and will squeeze the breath out of any head a 20 mile radius. Levels remain high throughout the EP; 'Lacuna' hits hard with a militant snare-led rhythm, 'Dimensions' is the dreamy number of the pack while 'Southern Cross' brings us back home safely. What a trip.

Review: Cosmic drum & bass voyager ASC once again proves that his sound is like no other, topping up his now likely uncountable backlog of time-dilatory journeys with a fresh four-tracker, 'Moving Through Dreams'. Indeed, for those in the know, the boundary between outer space and inner unconscious astrals can be blurred; it's clear ASC is clued in in this regard, with this hat-trick-plus-one of both rollers and breaks frenzies showing off an understanding of the format than only seasoned somn-journalists can handle. On the dreamier end of the spectrum, there's 'Things Left Unsaid', a wordless foray into the latent parapraxes that only real dream work can consciously upturn; and on the wilder end of things, there's 'Contrast', which apposes, in stark *contrast* - the industrial scrape of a techstep break with the depth-scouring swells of nebulaic pads n' basses.

Review: Space jungle extraordinaire ASC is as prolific as they come, and this week he's back again with 'Sphere Of Influence', a synth-heavy present-day take on the dreamy origins of his chosen sound. Beginning with 'The Arcane', we're most struck with ASC's emphasis on atmospherics and synthwork - they come first compared to his relatively functional breakscience, which are like godlike apparatuses guiding us through heavily nuanced, heavenly vistas. That functionality goes out of the window with 'Threeform', though - an unusually sound-designed number which introduces suddenly-huge variation in the breaks, in what is said to be ¾ time.

One of the deepest to do it, here on 'House Of Leaves' he whips up a beguiling sense of atmosphere as we gradually ramp up the intensity from the tense and stretched out title track opener to the savage cymbal slaps of the finale 'Exploration #4'. Following 'Isometric Projection' and 'Cause & Effect', this EP once again reaches to the heavens for its essence and rolls out with shimmering, emotional charm and more than its fair share of heavy drum punches. Review: There's seemingly no end to ASC's offerings to the drum & bass world and so it continues on this beautifully packaged black splattered yellow 10" from the Waveforms series. 'Waveform 03' is an airy jungle excursion with explosive amens set off against vast expanses of pads, while 'Waveform 04' locks into a sleeker, techier approach where the icy atmospherics have more space to stretch out. No one is even close to the quality and quantity of ASC, and this is yet another essential addition to his huge legacy.
