Intellijel's design goal for Sealegs was to create the warmest, most musical and organic delay module possible - something that would sweeten and enhance any audio one chose to feed into it. Notes: Module A-124 is a special 12dB multimode filter using the "strange" filter circuit of the "EDP Wasp" (an analog synthesizer with black/yellow case built end of the seventies, manufactured by the UK company "Electronic Dream Plant" with Chris Huggett und Adrian Wagner). This design "abuses" digital inverters as analog operational amplifiers leading to distortions and other "dirty" effects that generate the specific sound of this filter. The filter is equipped with a band pass output and a combined low/notch/high pass output. For this output a control knob defines the relation between low and high pass signal. If both signals appear at the same level (i.e. middle position of the Mix knob) one obtains a notch filter. Otherwise the low or high pass signal predominates. The module does not feature self-oscillation in contrast to most of the other filters of the A-100 system.

MINIBAY is a compact 40-point audio patch bay, designed to integrate neatly into a studio desktop space. While the ins and outs can be configured to suit your needs, the general idea is to have instruments on Row A, mixer channels on Row B, and effects hooked into the FX rows.

Connecting to Gear

Insert Cables

In most cases, connections to instruments, effects and the mixer are made with standard insert cables (1xTRS to 2xTS).

This system allows two mono connections for each 1/4" socket on the back panel, and is how MINIBAY is able to pack so much for its size.

TRS Cables

TRS cables can be used to make stereo or balanced connections. When this is done, each channel or polarity is patched separately on the front panel.

Rows A and B

For Rows A and B, each 1/4" socket on the back panel is wired to two adjacent 1/8" sockets on the main panel.

FX Rows

Each 1/4" FX socket on the back panel is wired to the two corresponding 1/8" FX sockets on the main panel. One insert cable can therefore be used to connect to the input and output on an effects unit (or two cables for a stereo unit).

Normalling

Connections between patch points on Rows A and B can be individually normalled using the dip switches located on the interior of the main patch panel. Simply take out the screws on MINIBAY's steel enclosure to open it up and access these.

A normalled connection is one where the signal flows without the need for patch cables. In a fully normalled connection (as used in MINIBAY), the connection is broken if a cable is inserted at any point in the signal flow.

PPEXP1 & PPEXP2 are two expander modules for Pamela's PRO Workout that both offer additional dedicated fixed clock, Din Sync & MIDI clock outputs.

Extend Pam as a master to clock external gear with super solid dedicated MIDI & Din Sync clock outputs. The Din Sync clock (x24) and Run outputs can also be patched into a 2nd Pam to easily sync it.

Use the extra fixed clocked gate outputs to free up Pam's main outputs for unique sequencing or complex modulation duties.

Connects directly to and is powered by the 'MIDI-EX' expander header on rear of Pamela's PRO Workout.

Only a single output expander is supported at any time but either can be used alongside an AXON-1 CV input expander.

A MIDI adapter cable and a Din Sync adapter cable are both available for connecting to 5 pin 'Din' type connectors. The PPEXP 1 includes a MIDI Din adapter cable.

The Atlantix uses two triangle core voltage controlled oscillators (VCO) which respond in a musically pleasing way to frequency modulation. The Atlantix primary VCO (VCO A) is capable of thru-zero frequency modulation and has a dedicated amplifier for controlling FM depth (FM INDEX). The modulation oscillator (VCO B) can be used as either an LFO or VCO. The highly flexible architecture allows you to route VCO B as a modulation source or stack it as a secondary VCO all by the flick of a switch or slider. VCO B also has a bonus "spike" waveform output which is a square wave with fixed HPF, similar to the Buchla Easel. Both oscillators track very precisely over eight or more octaves.

In the mixer section, you can adjust the balance of the primary oscillator's waveforms, sub-oscillator noise, and two auxiliary inputs that are normalled to additional VCO A waveforms or VCO B waveforms. The auxiliary inputs also allow you to patch other external signals into the mix.
The second Auxiliary input has a switch that allows you to route the source between the mixer sum or directly into the VCA (post-VCF). The latter is a way to pass an unfiltered fundamental signal to the final VCA stage and then blend it with filtered audio from the VCF. This draws inspiration from the architecture of the CS-80 where a sine wave is mixed with the filtered audio to make glassy tones with some added harmonics.

Multimode Filter - From Drips to Growls

The filter section (VCF) is a discrete cascaded 4-pole multimode filter with lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and phaser (multi-notch) modes. The filter can self-oscillate which produces a very clean sine wave that also tracks 1V/Oct. The VCF has three frequency modulation sources, two of which are normalled to the external pitch and envelope and have switches for polarity.

Add Atlx for dedicated outputs from each mode.

Envelope - A Classic ADSR

The envelope section is an analogue ADSR with three timing ranges: slow, medium, and fast. It can be gated externally or via a manual gate button located in the centre of the panel. The ADSR is routed through a VCA which can be used for level or velocity control.

Modulation - Random, Feedback, and Built-in Routing

Two eight-position rotary switches allow you to select from eight different modulation sources and route them to outputs MOD X and MOD Y. Each switch also has a polarity control and an option to level shift between unipolar and bipolar operation. MOD X is normalled to VCO A frequency modulation and MOD Y is normalled to VCF frequency modulation. The dedicated outputs allow for further creative modulation patching.

Four of the Input jacks have normal switches to change your patch without the need for cables.

The analogue Sample and Hold (S&H) circuit is normalled to the white noise source and can be clocked by VCO B, an external clock source, or via the gate input for per-note synced randomization.

Notes: Saturation is a sound designer's best friend. As applying saturation to a sound can make it sound warm, rich and defined. But without any other processing the opposite can happen; making the sound harsh, destroyed and undefined. An often used technique in music production is to saturate specific parts of the spectrum, adding harmonics to enrich the sound but not lose its original quality.

Wyvern takes this technique and makes it a creative sound design tool. When deconstructed Wyvern is built out of a specific chain: Filter EQ, Saturation, VCA, Dual Filter, Dry/Wet Balance. Different combinations of these stages can be used for a variety of sound design and patch situations. And it is all in stereo, so you can apply it to your final mix and stereo signals with ease too!

The Filter EQ stage has a high-shelf, low-shelf and bell curve to boost or diminish parts of the spectrum. When the gain is set to a minimum the EQ curves turn into low-pass, high-pass and notch respectively. A Resonance control puts emphasis on a certain frequency, or it can be used to make Wyvern scream. This is then sent to a Saturation stage. The Drive control sets the amount of Saturation of one of the three

Saturation types

Soft clipping puts more emphasis on the third harmonic and compresses the sound.

Hard clipping puts emphasis on odd harmonics. Finally an Allpass distortion adds phase shifts and distortion. The Saturation stage also has a level control which can be used to decrease the gain after saturation is applied and can function as a unipolar VCA. The Saturation stage is also accompanied with a clip indicator led and a boost switch to scale input signal correctly or simply add more or less harmonics.

The Post-Saturation stage is a high-pass and low-pass combo. Allowing you to select a frequency band from the previous stages. Along with a balance control to adjust the balance between the dry and wet signal.

Whether you are looking to destroy your sound or go for subtle analogue warmth; Wyvern has got you covered. Even when not used for saturation alone. It can be a Stereo Tone Controller, EQ, Filter, VCA and Phaser, all and anything in between. Making it a very fun and powerful sound design tool!

Inspired by a trip to Berlin's trailblazing music hardware trade show Superbooth, Coldcut's Matt Black and longtime friend Dr Walker (Liquid Sky artist collective / Air Liquide) envisaged the exciting possibilities of a custom hardware effects unit. The result is the creation of the Zen Delay i the first-ever hardware effects unit produced in collaboration with an electronic music label.

Bringing together the best of the digital and analogue worlds, the Zen Delay is a BPM-synced stereo delay line, combining extreme feedback ranges for dub and experimental lo-fi effects with a multi-mode 24 dB synth filter and valve overdrive.

Created and manufactured by Erica Synths, the unit is housed in a metal case with Erica Synths' signature bakelite knobs and a valve circuit for extra analogue warmth. While sonically versatile, it is incredibly easy to use each function has a physical knob that you can play around with without diving into manuals or scrolling through menus on a tiny screen.

Crafted in close collaboration with DJs and producers, the Zen Delay was uniquely developed with both live and studio use in mind and is suitable for many different performance situations, musical styles and instruments. Mapping Knobs and Jacks

The MetaModule has 12 knobs that can be mapped to virtual knobs. Each knob can be mapped to up eight virtual knobs, and each mapping can have a different range and offset. You also can save a group of mappings as a Knob Set and switch between Knob Sets with the encoder. You also can map the 8 inputs and 8 outputs to virtual module jacks. Also, the MetaModule is a USB MIDI host, so you also can map MIDI CC, note, gate, and other parameters to knobs and jacks.

Expanders

There are lots of ways to customize your MetaModule. A Wifi expander allows you to wirelessly transfer patches from your computer. Add eight more knobs with the Knob expander, or buttons with the Button expander. A CV/Audio expander adds more high-resolution inputs and outputs, and the Gate In/Out expander adds not only gate jacks but also TRS MIDI and I2C.

Under the Hood

There are six CV/Audio inputs, two gate inputs, and six CV/Audio outputs. The CV/Audio jacks are all 24-bit, 48kHz DC-coupled, -10V to +10V. A USB-C jack accepts MIDI devices and thumb drives. Patches and plugins can be loaded via a USB drive or microSD Card, and internal flash memory lets you save patches you always want to come back to.

The processor is more advanced than anything 4ms has used in the past, and is among the most powerful processors found in Eurorack. Startup time and latency are blazingly fast.
