The Yamaha HS5 Active Studio Monitor features biamped full range 2 way speakers rated at 45W and 25W and has been developed by Yamaha to offer an exceptionally flat and accurate frequency response for use in music production and composition as well as home project studios. The HS5 monitors' design has been informed by the tradition of the legendary NS10M monitors.

Yamaha HS5 speakers feature a low resonance bass reflex enclosure which improves the rigidity of the overall speaker, and less cabinet resonance means that the signal remains clear and uncoloured. This is very important in getting an accurate mix which translates across all systems.

Sonically Transparent Monitoring System:

The 8040BPM features Genelec's MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) with rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. This allows the 8040BPM to achieve a very smooth frequency response and superb imaging qualities with minimised cabinet edge diffraction.

Like all Genelec 8000 Series monitors, the 8040BPM also features the advanced Genelec DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide). The revolutionary DCW has been further enhanced to provide extremely accurate control of the 8040BPM's directivity. Genelec designed this specially shaped, very smooth surface and integrated it with the enclosure. Its area has been maximised to achieve an astoundingly flat on- and off axis frequency response. As a result, the 8040BPM has an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. This also gives the 8040BPM superb imaging qualities and reduces listening fatigue.

To increase the 8040BPM woofer's low frequency extension and SPL capacity, Genelec designed an ingenious flow optimised reflex port. The long, curved tube maximises airflow, so the 8040BPM can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube terminates with a wide flare, minimising port noises and providing excellent bass articulation. An optimised die cast aluminium structure with extremely durable semi matte finish and acoustically optimised metal grilles add to the 8040BPM's acoustic excellence.

Genelec's low distortion drivers (6.5" bass speakers and 3/4" metal dome tweeters) are driven by the 8040BPM's dedicated 90 watt bass and treble amplifiers after sophisticated filtering. Magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry, and versatile room response controls are standard.

Thanks to Genelec's ISS (Intelligent Signal Sensing) power management system, you never have to remember to shut down your 8040BPM monitors again. ISS constantly checks for input signal. After a while, if ISS doesn't detect anything, it switches your 8040BPM over to a low power sleep state, safeguarding your gear and sparing you the wasted electricity.

The versatile mounting features on the 8040BPM include integrated rear support points for wall and floor stands plus a further M10 thread for mounting on the cabinet base. In addition, every Genelec 8040BPM monitor comes with a standard IsoPod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler). The IsoPod is a clever mounting stand, which allows the 8040BPM to perform in either the vertical or horizontal position. The MSP3, a compact reference monitor speaker loved for many years, has been renewed as the MSP3A. This new reference monitor is the first in this series to include our Twisted Flare Port technology and provides an even clearer and tighter low-end while also realizing faithful sound reproduction.

The built-in 22W power amplifier is optimized for the speaker unit, which comprises a 10 cm (4") woofer and a 2.2 cm (.87") tweeter, to achieve a clear and natural reference sound.

The cabinet features a refined, simple design and weighs a mere 3.6 kilograms (7.9 pounds), making it easy to reposition and carry to different locations. Just like its predecessor, this monitor has multiple input connectors and controls, and is compatible with a variety of optional brackets, making it useful for a wide range of uses. Using it, we apply aerodynamic sound analysis and flow visualization measurement technologies to pinpoint and control noise generation mechanisms. Noise-generating air flow turbulence at both ends of the port is suppressed by changing how the port widens from input to output and adding a twist to it. Suppressing turbulence reduces bothersome muddiness in the sound and lowers the amount of noise generated at the port ends. This strengthens the connection between the sound and main speaker and delivers clear, tight low frequencies along with pitch and rhythm.

Mounted in the center of the woofer is a 30mm silk dome tweeter in a coaxial configuration. Using this technology (unique in its price range) makes it a point source device, meaning that all the sound emanates from a single point not points that are 10" apart. This is crucial for improving off-axis response, but also allows for a more compact footprint cabinet.
Other benefits using coaxial studio monitors are sound clartiy and imaging.

Boundary compensation DIP switches
Sometimes the spaces where we mix aren't the most forgiving acoustically (especially if you're in a home studio).
The FX series monitors come equipped with boundary control EQ switches, that allow you to compensate for spaces that may not have been tuned or just need to be adjusted due to their proximity to the wall behind them. A Coaxial Monitor for the 21st Century
The Fluid Audio Coaxial speaker design is notably different from traditional coaxial designs. Coaxial studio monitors in the 50's and 60's placed the high frequency driver behind the woofer, porting the high frequency through the woofer's voice coil opening. This design effectively used the woofer's cone as the wave guide, or horn. Since the woofer's cone is constantly moving (sometimes dramatically as it plays bass frequencies), there is a significant amount of Intermodulation distortion and audible smearing that happens as the high frequency radiates off the woofer's cone.

The coaxial design of the Fluid Audio FX series places the high frequency device in front of the woofer, secured to a fixed post. The tweeter is mounted in a hard plastic wave guide that allows the high frequencies to flow uninterrupted, so there is no audio smearing from the woofer's movements. By using the on-board DSP, 48 and 36db per octave Linkwitz-Riley slopes not only perfectly blend the low and high frequencies, but are also used to filter out acoustic anomalies inherent in coax designs (as the tweeter does not have a full size baffle to radiate from.) In addition to these unique benefits, users get all the other known benefits of a coaxial driver Symmetrical off-axis response (which creates a bigger, more even and consistent sweet spot) and that of being a point source device, which allows better phase coherence between drivers resulting in extremely realistic imaging. Whether upright or laid on its side, the Fluid Coaxial design will perform identically making studio positioning easier and more user friendly.

Keeping true to the original keyhole design, the FX enclosure has been updated with a complex radius front baffle, which not only looks pretty cool, it improves cabinet defraction.

Coaxial driver
Mounted in the center of the woofer is a 30mm silk dome tweeter in a coaxial configuration. Using this technology (unique in its price range) makes it a point source device, meaning that all the sound emanates from a single point not points that are 10" apart. This is crucial for improving off-axis response, but also allows for a more compact footprint cabinet.
Other benefits using coaxial studio monitors are sound clartiy and imaging.

Boundary compensation DIP switches
Sometimes the spaces where we mix aren't the most forgiving acoustically (especially if you're in a home studio).
The FX series monitors come equipped with boundary control EQ switches, that allow you to compensate for spaces that may not have been tuned or just need to be adjusted due to their proximity to the wall behind them. There is also a guide conveniently printed on the rear panel to show how the DIP switches work, and a more detailed explanation in the user guide.

A Coaxial Monitor for the 21st Century
The Fluid Audio Coaxial speaker design is notably different from traditional coaxial designs. Coaxial studio monitors in the 50's and 60's placed the high frequency driver behind the woofer, porting the high frequency through the woofer's voice coil opening. This design effectively used the woofer's cone as the wave guide, or horn. Since the woofer's cone is constantly moving (sometimes dramatically as it plays bass frequencies), there is a significant amount of Intermodulation distortion and audible smearing that happens as the high frequency radiates off the woofer's cone.

The coaxial design of the Fluid Audio FX series places the high frequency device in front of the woofer, secured to a fixed post. The tweeter is mounted in a hard plastic wave guide that allows the high frequencies to flow uninterrupted, so there is no audio smearing from the woofer's movements. By using the on-board DSP, 48 and 36db per octave Linkwitz-Riley slopes not only perfectly blend the low and high frequencies, but are also used to filter out acoustic anomalies inherent in coax designs (as the tweeter does not have a full size baffle to radiate from.) In addition to these unique benefits, users get all the other known benefits of a coaxial driver Symmetrical off-axis response (which creates a bigger, more even and consistent sweet spot) and that of being a point source device, which allows better phase coherence between drivers resulting in extremely realistic imaging.
