Review: From the murky depths of the distant past comes a hot plate of stank whipped up by your chef du jour and man of a million aliases, Can Oral. This time around its four cuts of SP-1200 electro under his much-lauded 4E alias. Originally released on Freddy Fresh's Sockett imprint in 1996, we are dusting of this unheralded classic in the hopes of bringing some much needed dirt to the dancefloors of 2018.

  4. Then Again (Robin beats remix)
  5. Then Again (Robin Ball remix)
Review: Then Again' by Orson Bramley is the second release on the Memory Box label. Orson is the founder of British electro funk pioneers Transparent Sound, one of the UK's longest running electro acts. This is his solo work under his own name. Orson has been playing some live Acid House shows at Memory Box parties and this release is the fruit born from the live show. The A side includes the original mix which is an acid electro crossover, plus a four to the floor mix and a beautiful ambient strings mix. The B side sees two remixes from acclaimed producer and Memory Box head honcho Robin Ball, who is also known for his work as Resonators on his recently re-launched Groovepressure label. The first is under his new breakbeat rave alias Robin Beats and the other under his own name which sees him take in a deeper house, techno, electro vibe more akin to his Groovepressure label.

Review: Originally released in 2012 on London haus label Unknown To The Unknown Cestrians Secret Language ep was only available on digital format. Here Vivod team up with UTTU and give it the right to a much needed vinyl release. Five cuts of Cestrian detective noir. A1 Napoli is standard trademark Cestrian thrash metal on syths, A2 Secret Language sounds like someone being stuffed and chopped up through a drain pipe. B1 Purge is a drexciyan rip off horror acid affair, B2 Krapton Fictor is a stripped back FM battle and Umberto gives Napoli the remix treatment to stunning effect in his uncompromised slasher style. Five direct tracks of pure fire. Comes with a screen printed sleeve, artwork courtesy of Pete Mangalore. Limited to 200 copies.

Review: Originally a cassette release on Wil-Ru Records in 2011 CN's "The Expedition Beyond" is a musical narrative that chronicles the astral travels of a star-craft and it's crew through the outer reaches of the Galaxy. 10 tracks of cosmic acid funk, drifty nebulous synth-scapes and robo-centric electro (Produced by Stian Gjevik around the same time as his classic "Utrecht" release as EOD).

Review: Go! Finger returns to the vinyl grooves again! And this time showing a more dramatic and darkest side. Holland's underground legends Das Ding and DJ Overdose, join forces, for the first time, to deliver "AM/PM". A puzzling split release composed of two pairs of gloomy, sinister and hard to classify gems of the finest west coast electro. Absolutely remarkable. A delightful and state of the art chiaoscuro of today's freshest dark electronics.

Review: Last time we heard from prolific electro legend Ed Stratton AKA DMX Krew a couple of months back, he was laying down a rubbery and colourful selection of revivalist electro jams. On this first outing on Byrd Out, he takes a different approach, serving up a quintet of dancefloor jams variously influenced by Cybotron, Drexciya, deep space electro, Inner City style house jams and glassy-eyed, Nu Groove style deep house. If you're interested in the latter, head for the wonderfully tactile and positive closer "Spiritual Machines", while the lightly soiled bottom-end sleaze and crystalline melodies of "Peripheral Visions" is the one for those interested in positive, on-point electro. "Acid Arthur", meanwhile, is a particularly good example of acid/electro fusion.

Review: "Foreword by Ben (For Those That Knoe)
As a young person growing up in West Yorkshire, my experiences of true underground clubbing became intertwined with names such as Back to Basics, 20/20 Vision and Carl Finlow. That period in the early 2000's became a life-affirming time for my young self. Frequent trips to Back to Basics, then held at the Mint Club helped forge my outlook on electronic music and how it should be played in a club environment. I would often hear stories about ""the Farm"" and the late night parties and studio sessions. The anecdotes and tales of US icons recording in the countryside with the local guys provided only a small insight into the creativity and fun that must have gone on during those years. Cut to now in 2017, whilst looking back to those times more than fifteen years ago, I can proudly say that the dots have been joined and the connections now formally established. I'm immensely proud to say that Carl Finlow, the understated king of British electro, and I, have put together a selection of his works that provides a themed snapshot into his musical history.

The music I have chosen with Carl may not be all of his biggest tracks but it is the music that is special to me. The selection has a vibe, one that is deep and emotive, music for the head as well as the feet. I hope you hear it in the same way.

If you don't know Carl Finlow, now you knoe."

On the North Side is Berlin based Bristolian Christian Jay, with a few releases under his belt up to now, this man has been making some wicked music of late and as soon as we first heard these two tracks we knew we had to release them. The South Side is taken up by a friend from Essex, Bilal. Impressing us with his productions for some time now behind closed doors we felt that now is definitely the right time to show off this young mans talents to the world.

Review: In his formative years, Neil Landstrumm was a huge fan of "Yorkshire bleep and bass", the sparse, sub-heavy style of techno that emerged from the North of England at the tail end of the 1980s. He's paid tribute to it in his music on many occasions, though never in as concentrated a way as found on this fantastic 12" for Chris Smith's brilliant CPU imprint. For proof, check the aggressive electronics, Xon style melodies and "LFO" sub of opener "The Tomorrow People", the early Orbital style "bleep and breaks" of "Chrome and Ferric", the deep space brilliance of "Sahara" (which our resident bleep nerd compared favourably to Robert Gordon's legendary remixes of Cabaret Voltaire's "Easy Life") and the mind-altering late night sleaze of closer "The Chemical Con".

Frenetic, unique, exploratory and imaginative; that just begins to sum up this group. Throw in some stoner rock elements, some electronica and a little bit of flair, only now do you have this incredibly vibrant, diverse backbone to this ever satisfying tribal demeanour.

Review: 2017 has been a big year for Pye Corner Audio man Martin Jenkins. For starters, he's released a string of fine EPs and collaborations, most of which explore the dark and sludgy experimental style he's arguably most famous for pursuing. Island of Ghosts, though, is a little different. Aimed firmly at club DJs, it sees Jenkins lay down a series of seriously heavy dancefloor workouts. He begins with the intoxicating, exotic melodies, ragged acid lines and punchy electro beats of "Greenpoint Hangover", before diving head first into the world of acid house/techno fusion on trippy throb-job "Industrial Rituals". Flip to the B-side for the razor-sharp acid lines, murky aural textures and hypnotic techno beats of "Island of Ghosts" and a thrillingly pitched-up, Braindance style remix of "Greenpoint Hangover" by Finnish electro stalwarts Morphology.
