Produced under the UR namesake by the momentarily errant Mad Mike Banks, 'The Final Frontier' opens with a titular acid skipper, not long before a mathematically-minded ascender *avant la lettre*, 'Entering Quadrant Five', hears blooping, arpy, archic counterpoints arise, layer on layer, as if we'd taken flight aboard a starship, and now find ourselves accelerating against the flow of a cosmic cataract. The B offers a vision of meanwhile, beaming us down to 'Base Camp Alpha 808', which hears a comparatively Promethean fusion of hand drum and drum machine.

Review: Dan Andrei is arguably one of the finest selectors of this generation and a master minimal producer who makes electronic music of the highest order. His latest outing sees him inaugurating his own brand-new label alongside Claudiu Stefan. Rainbow Hill is a platform for their more personal ideas and starts with four more of Andrei's brilliantly deft yet dramatic tracks. 'Numan's Touch' kicks off with rolling drums and bass and a fine eco-system of cosmic pads, twinkling keys and fizzing synths that are theatrical and involving. 'What Else?' then gets darker and more intense with heady loops and wispy pads, and again the ante is upped and the darkness pervades once more on the tense and taught dub-tech roller 'This Is What I See'. Last of all, 'Bluer Than Ever' floats above the floor with airy pads and radiant chords. A perfect 5am vibe.

Review: Unsettling dark-lectro by young Uruguayan producer Molen, debuting for the label Forma Y Contenido. Like that ineffable set of spooky microscopic actions which are only observable at a distance, opener 'Temblor' lands us in an expository state of in-betweeny uncertainty; we really aren't sure where we find ourselves on receiving this opener, with its laconic but commanding vocals and slamming snares. 'Presagio' divines the future with juddering sixteenths and teased melodies, while 'Primer Aviso' slows the pace to a chug, continually unnerving the listener with its swirly tops. Finally, 'A Duras Penas' disturbs the dream even more so, through swirling kickless portions and Reesey scoop-outs.

Review: The first record in a new series of VA releases, 'Constellations Vol. 1', features Zeta Reticula, LUZ1E, Serge Geyzel, Aura Nox, Vertical67 and Ufaze. 'Dial That Number' opens with vanguard skirmishes of buckshot FM bass and sonic warmongery, a robo-voice superegoically charging the listener with a command to "dial that number" amid bloopy sonic ratiocinations and momentary forgoings of bass. Luz1e's 'Data Motions' recalls the scope and intensity of the recent DJ Stingray 313 release, with its titular musings on data fungibility and capture proving apt to the track's metallic snares and full-bodied gnarls. Geyzel's track moves more electric and playful, record scratches and synth piques-and-jerks galore. The B-siders move more barren and ruinous, with planetarily stacked cairns of bass layering, girding and trussing the mixes of 'Non Stop Overstimulation' (a tautology if you think about it) and 'Tear Down Those Walls'. Finally 'I Should Have Known' sounds more conclusive, its sense of finality and solubility helped along by snares and kick transients that, rather than merely contrasting them, seep into the track's overall dystopian smog.

Review: Georgian producer Toke follows up his Batter Down debut 'Calm Before The Storm' with a second dance musical rabbit-holer on 12", 'Sacral Dance'. Toke cleverly uses his titular words to cognise the link between the sacred and the pelvic; indeed, booty-shaking is a ritual, transcendent act: the title track throws us headfirst into the cult-space, with its short electro bursts and middy FM hooks dancing jankily across a comical beat; such is the hypnotic formula that ensues on 'Light' and 'Therapy', which move more trancey and bombastic respectively. Review: With his nom de plume, producer Anoesis - returning to Cyphon Records - posits an age-old philosophical question. Are there forms of knowledge that we can access independently of consciousness? Besides perception of phenomena, and by the use of reason, how else can we know things? One answer is "anoesis", which is the reception of impressions or sensations - sensory input, pure qualia - by the brain, prior to any intellectual (aka. noetic) work being done. As a form of 'Metacognition', anoesis is innate, paralogical, and before reason; such motor inputs are exactly the kind that electro and its adjacent styles hope to simulate and stimulate. 'Vision Off' and 'Do Don't Don't Do' seem to reflect something of this latent potentiation of thought, with patterned, helical beats, and bouncy neuronal noises, seeming to represent the ludicrousness of the unconscious and somatic mind. 'New Style Of Life' just as oxymoronic - irrationally rational - proving that the dancing body also follows its own, paralinguistic form of reason; sci-fi, Forbidden Planet-style, billowing synth note ascensions blend with clacky hats and snares, representing the forward-facing yet untempered drives of such a precognitive, subjective mental state.

Review: Snappy breakdance come electro from Kid Ginseng, 'I Go Off', the third in a series of samply 12"s retrograding the inimitable sound of the diskette floppy disc, and its timely usage throughout the 80s and 90s in cities like Detroit, LA and New York. Channelling an 8-16 bit sound - and influenced by DJs Di'jital, Arabian Prince, and the LA X-Men - the centring of these influences is undeniably the instrumental Techno Hop label; Ginseng truly does go off on one in response to their legacy, with the title track forcing us to spit out the teabag with an abrupt "ptooey", in light of its spicy choral samples and bitty acid line. The runner-ups 'Romancing The Droid' and 'Konstrukt' also offer variable takes on the Techno Hop sound, the former especially bringing a downtempo proto-industrial hip-hop jaunt to an already totalised, militarised sonic zone.

Review: Dischi Nottetempo, based in Milan, welcomes a new artist to their roster, Caramel Chameleon (Francesco Pio Nitti), for a label-debut EP with which our ears may tussle and tarry for some time: 'Compact Demons'. Nitti will be known already to many, his fluid brand of braindance having already graced imprints like 030303 and Undersound's NOUN sublabel. This five-tracker continues the charge of heady braindance abstraction and hardboiled beats, proving unafraid of the contradicton of ludic depth, slaphappy apprehension, silly seriousness. In characteristic braindance fashion, 'd-_-b Future Is Blind' makes use of the briefest of ASCII art in the title, and sonically indulges lowriding bass and slickly rolling, generative woodblocks, a tributary use of breaks and digitalia to the tutelage of IDM if we've ever heard one. Review: Cruz returns to Griffe with the new EP 'La Pasion Paga', delivering a wicked set of five elements in the form of neon-drenched electro and wearable wetware Italo. The title track throws us into an extrasensory fervour, serving visions of streaklit motorbikes burning phosphenic light trails onto our retinas, be this due to the various LED filter-cutoff stabs, flash-photo gated snares or two-tone melodic glow discharges heard thereupon. 'Music Addicted' furthers this sense of lubricious but psychotic drive, as we're continually bewitched and bedazzled by murderous murmurations and piquant flicks and guttural saws, glued by the clever working of police sirens into the mix's distance. B-sider 'Always My Illusion' finds a moment of brief respite, deploying a detuned synth xerogel that glues each otherwise sparse, janky electro element into a well-soldered prosthetic. 'Los Atajos Del Delirio' builds on similar themes of futural disillusion, yet ramps things up to yet another accelerative exponent, ending on a juddering but bittersweet note of finality.

Review: According to musician Calagad 13, we have reached an advanced stage of development where the manifestation of growth of all life is under the control and management of artificial intelligence. Whether this is factually correct or merely a cultural amusement is irrelevant; its very uncertainty is what lends its use a definite gravitas. It's also the kind of statement that helps desirously package wicked dystopian electro EPs, such as 'Inner Revolution' here.
