This being the heyday of the commercial music format, the album was released with the expectation of high chart performance, though it flopped on that front. Despite the anticlimax, Jeopardy went down in time as a dark post-punk paragon, invariably lauded by the small crock of critics who did hear it; this pattern would go onto be matched by the overall critical success of the Sound as a a band. The album's neo-noir, paranoiac hooks and exclamatory vocals make up its core aesthetic, though there is something truly authentic, an 'it' factor, that makes Jeopardy unique unto its own; its rapacious compositions, tight melodies and moments of toothy brightness add to this aura; it's as if they paved a hidden way for the more talented of South London bands of today.

These establishing statements decrypted, Ensoulment is a mercurial mood, spanning decries of capital to global surveillance to hope in quick succession. Led by the maverick breakaway post-punk number known as 'Cognitive Dissident', the album instantly hits us with a mood of surveillance-state-subjected paranoia and lament - heard throughout - by way of lyrics musing on 'screen grabs', 'curtailed' and 'servile/surveilled'. Review: After a 16-year hiatus since 4:13 Dream, The Cure returns with the anticipated Songs Of A Lost World. The first single, 'Alone', marks a powerful resurgence for the band. Unlike the somewhat unfocused production of their last album, 'Alone' brings back the bold, expansive sound fans have longed for. It’s a stunning track, filled with emotional depth and lush instrumentation, blending synth strings with chiming guitars. Robert Smith’s voice remains as poignant and expressive as ever, defying time with its raw, emotive power. The song feels like both a return to form and a bittersweet farewell, hinting that this may be the band’s swan song. There was at least 5 of these songs slated for this album that were debuted while on tour with fans excited to hear them. It is safe to say that fans were floored after hearing these and this album has been very much looked forward to. Expect to hear the atmospheric rock band with another classic album. Smith and The Cure took their time to craft something special, and it shows. Review: Kim Deal's debut album Nobody Loves You More is a masterful culmination of years of musical exploration and collaboration, though it's not her first venture under her own name. In 2013, she self-released a five-part, ten-song 7" vinyl series, with several of those tracks reappearing here, notably 'Are You Mine?' and 'Wish I Was,' both of which date back to 2011. These early compositions were crafted shortly after Deal wrapped up the Pixies' 'Lost Cities Tour' and made the move to Los Angeles. Review: The Cure has finally released their highly anticipated album Songs Of A Lost World, their first studio record since 2008. In the lead-up to the release, the band dropped cryptic social media hints, mailed postcards revealing the album’s title and release date, and even placed a poster at the pub where they played their first show. Recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales, this album is the band’s 14th, featuring the core lineup of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O'Donnell, and Reeves Gabrels. Smith, together with producer Paul Corkett, oversaw the arrangements, while long-time collaborator Andy Vella designed the album's artwork, which showcases Janez Pirnat's 1975 sculpture Bagatelle. Smith has stressed that identifying the opening and closing songs is crucial for the album's development.
After being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, The Cure returns with a record that digs deep into darker, more personal themes, echoing the intensity of their earlier work. Review: In the early 1980s, Britain had a vibrant cassette culture that now gets spotlighted through a limited edition 12" featuring multi-instrumentalist Kez Stone's project, Imago. He was a notable name in Cornwall and the West Country's music scenes with previous projects, Artistic Control and Aaah! which have come back via reissues many times in the last ten years. Imago was a new one-ff project that first emerged with one track on the Perfect Motion compilation curated by NTS Radio's Bruno and Flo Dill and now the full LP, originally released in 1985 on the local label A Real Kavoom, has been remastered and added to with three additional gems. Stone's teenage punk influences sit next to Imago's eclectic approach to sound that blends new wave and psychedelic elements into something irresistible.

Review: Originally known as Stuff Kittens, then Warsaw, the legendary U.K. post-punk band Joy Division emerged from Manchester in the late 1970s, their middle moniker chosen in honour of a David Bowie-Brian Eno track, "Warszawa. This album, recorded at the time but never released, includes five bonus demo tracks recorded at Pennine Studios in Manchester on July 18, 1977, featuring Steve Brotherdale on drums. The first 11 tracks were laid down during a recording session in early May 1978, shortly after 'Interzone' and 'Transmission' - later to become Joy Division classics - had been incoporated into their set, the formere emerging from a cover of Northern Soul classic 'Keep On Keepin' On', the band adding original lyrics to create a unique sound. 'Transmission', written during the final rehearsal week, begins with a line from Alistair Crowley's The Book of Thoth, adding to what is already a fascinating collection of early takes of songs that would later gain iconic post-punk status.

Review: While former New Young Pony Club member (and sometime Hot Chip collaborator) has devoted much of her career to DJing, her occasional solo musical releases have always been strong. Her solo debut LP, 2021's Private Sunshine, was excellent, but if anything this belated sophomore effort is even better. The album's genius lies in its consistency and the first signs of a smart, stylish, trademark boogie and proto-house influenced synth-pop sound, with extra authenticity provided by clear sonic nods to classic 1980s cuts from NYC and beyond. Review: Rival Schools' Found is a compelling collection of rarities, demos and alternate takes, compiled during the years following the release of their 2001 debut, United By Fate. Initially released over a decade ago, the band has collaborated with Run For Cover Records to reissue this collection on limited-edition vinyl, timed alongside the reissue of their 2011 album Pedals. This version of Found is particularly special, with a rare yellow vinyl edition limited to just 200 copies. Found offers eleven tracks that showcase the band's musical experimentation and evolution during the decade between their debut and Pedals. Led by Walter Schreifels, a pivotal figure in the hardcore scene through his work with Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, and Quicksand, Rival Schools also features members Ian Love, Cache Tolman, and Sammy Siegler, whose other projects include Iceburn, CIV, and Glassjaw. Review: Suede's second album Dog Man Star is alleged to have defined an era; it is considered among many of their diehards as their most musically adventurous record; here, sweeping strings appose orchestral ballads; epic widescreen pieces contrast to, yet befit trashy glam rock. It includes the classic hit singles 'We Are The Pigs', 'The Wild Ones', and 'New Generation'; it's also cited as among their last records to feature guitarist and co-songwriter Bernard Butler. The record's assessment by the first-listen music press, specifically Rolling Stone, as "one of the most pretentious albums ever released by a major label" has likely worked in its favour rather than dashing hopes of greatness: the record's leftward face is mostly stylistic, and besides the flamboyant vocal delivery and sveltely polished mixes, amounts to one of the chicest of chic pop records out there.

Review: Produced by David Holmes, who last worked with the band on 2013's More Light, the 11-track album represents a fresh chapter for the Scottish rock veterans, as well as their first new material in eight years. Bobby Gillespie is reportedly approached this record differently, crafting lyrics before music for the first time and relying on an acoustic guitar during the songwriting process. Gillespie describes the album as a reflection on conflictiboth internal and externalitinged with compassion. The title, a Glaswegian term, embodies the fierce and confident spirit of Glasgow, suggesting a defiant stance against adversity. The album's lead single, 'Love Insurrection,' previews this audacious energy. Come Ahead is the band's first release since the death of Martin Duffy in 2022. Duffy, a longtime collaborator, had contributed to every album since Screamadelica, though he had become estranged from the band over a rights dispute. Primal Scream, originally formed in 1982 by Gillespie and Jim Beattie, have continuously evolved from their indie pop roots into psychedelic, garage rock, dance music and then rock 'n' roll, making Come Ahead a compelling addition to their diverse discography.
