6th Borough Project - "Estranged Lover"
Haku - "Rugo"
Andy Ash - "Somehow"
Deep Space Orchestra - "Erase Everything"
Review: The Use of Weapons imprint has mastered the easy to grasp, hard to master formula of matching clutches of (excellent) original tracks from Cottam and label bosses Deep Space Orchestra with well-chosen and even better executed remixes from the likes of Hunee, Neville Watson and Marcello Napoletano. The fourth release sees a change in tack, with the label opting to focus on original material from 6th Borough Project, Haku, Andy Ash and of course Deep Space Orchestra. Graeme The Revenge Clark and Craig Smith kick off proceedings with the suitable thick set slow burning "Estranged Lover", though it's "Rugo" by Haku that impresses most. The new project of Deep Space Orchestra's Chris Barker, the track is a superb kaleidoscopic concoction of fizzing uptempo live percussion, synths and drum machines that has more than a touch of the Carl Craigs about it. Andy Ash switches proceedings back to chunky mutant discoid dirt with the heads down, tops off vibes of "Somehow" while the Deep Space Orchestra head for the expanses of future tech jazz with the ten minute odyssey "Erase Everything".

Sina's Freund (5:44)
Werner's Spiel (6:02)
Elvira's Katzenfisch (5:40)
Frank's Einsamkeit (5:51)
Review: Audiosex and Hanoben stepped out together on Discos Capablanca back in 2018 with the on-point acidities of Phone Sex, and now they're teaming up once again for this killer clutch of edit tackle for the always interesting Duca Bianco label. Rather than the well-mined stocks of disco and funk that usually get dusted down by edit scavenegers, these two have turned to synth pop and German new wave sounds, coming up with four deep cover, deliciously dishevelled pieces which align perfectly with the brand of acidic club music they make themselves. 'Elvira's Katzenfisch' is a prime case in point - a broad, sweeping slice of synthwave which sounds like it might slide off the reel to reel at any moment, while 'Frank's Einsamkeit' swells into a searing 303 burner for the darkest dungeon dancefloors.

Chocolate Black Leather (original mix)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green Acid dub)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green instrumental remix)
Chocolate Black Leather (Brennan Green beatless version)
Review: Danny Was A Drag King, the delightfully named new record label initiative betwixt Ajello and Hell Yeah launches with a veritable bang! "Chocolate Black Leather" sees the former veterans of the contemporary Italo disco scene team up with it's premier queen, Hard Ton, for a delightfully loud mixture of crisp drums, acidic basslines and schizoid synth arpeggiations - all naturally engulfed in the diva stylings of Hard Ton. Just to add an extra smattering of "you might want to buy this" D.W.D.K. enlisted Brooklyn icon Brennan Green to get busy on the source material - and in a pique of generosity the China Town boss came through with no less than three variants. Whilst all three are tinged with acidic intent to varying degrees it is the full-on wig out of "Acid Dub" that impresses most.

Albion - "Nucleare" (3:49)

Ric Piccolo - "Alright" (4:37)
Hysteric - "This Moment" (4:56)
Review: Legalize Lambada Vol 6 brings a vibrant Italo homage that showcasing the talents of Albion, Ric Piccolo, and Hysteric. Side-1 kicks off with Albion's 'Nucleare,' an early 80s DIY sound track seasoned with robotic Italian vocals, serving as a unique introduction. Next, Ric Piccolo's 'Disco Teacher' delivers a potent mix of early disco and 80s electro sounds, setting the stage for some serious dancefloor action. On Side-2, Ric Piccolo returns with 'Alright,' continuing the danceable energy with another infectious groove. Finally, Hysteric's 'Moment' offers a moody, keyboard-rich Italo house track, exuding a sexy, soulful vibe that prompts deep, introspective dance moves. This compilation is for fans of Italo disco and disco and those seeking something fresh in these genres. Legalize Lambada Vol 6 is steeped with that Italo sound with modern twists, making it perfect for both nostalgic disco enthusiasts and new listeners alike. Hutte Sound System - "Fire Fly" (4:54)
Review: Akira Arasawa opens up with psychedelic Balearic house on 'Panorama New Touch' while OR's 'Hammock Beats' is glitchy and low-slung downtempo. On the flip is the nine-minute head melter 'Liquidanz' with its rippling synth modulations and Hutte Sound System close down with the dreamy end of the night soother 'Fire Fly'. Thsi mproject sees Especial Specials joining forces ed up with Chillmountain Recordings - a label from Osaka, Japan - on a series of new EPs, this being the first of hopefully many. The idea is to show the world the talents the label has at its disposal. It's definitely a case of mission accomplished on this evidence.

Hatelate - "The Boogie Show" (feat Claire Lennox) (6:29)
Review: The French brat pack are back; Around7 and Joss Moog are a couple of Phil Weeks' proteges and they turn in some sweet disco edits here. They just so happen to own the label too. Around7's "Live At Fillmore" sounds so awesome; is it possibly a Moodymann/Norma Jean Bell edit? Moog's "I cant Say No" is some proper disco house deepness. On the flip, they've got some newcomers in the form of Paul Cut with "Heaven" a loopy soul-funk cut up and Hatelate with "The Boogie Show" which is pretty sweet, who did he sample on this one again? Reminiscent of "Working Nights" era Trus'me.

Review: It's something of a pleasant surprise to see French veteran Ludovic Llorca popping up on the second volume of House of Disco's HODSTASH edits series. Under his Art of Tones alias, the one-time F Communications stalwart turns in a couple of house-friendly cut-ups of classic tracks. "Unlimited Love", for example, offers a head-nodding, toe-tapping rework of Love Unlimited Orchestra's slow dance classic "Love's Theme", while "Stepping In & Out" successfully chops and tools up a similarly familiar disco classic. House of Disco regular Harry Wolfman continues the theme on the flip, delivering a banging version of Prince classic "Erotic City", before closing proceedings with the sweaty P-Funk-goes-tech house chug of "Schoolin".

Review: Whisky Disco invite a trio of fresh faces to their ever-growing talent troupe for the Disco Darling EP. Andy Ash takes the lead with a loopy, strutting slice of sample-laced house that wouldn't go amiss in a Mark Farina set while Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul lower the tempo, invite us on a Balearic picnic and insist we gobble up huge chunks of Sade's "Cherry Pie". Deeper into the EP we find firm label friends Rabo & Snob laying down a velvet bed of Rhodes and vocal harmonies before the final label newcomer JP Source plays a slo-mo game of sample patty-cake with loopy disco mischief.

Barnt - "Geffen"
Dany F - "Chalole Batata"
Christian S - "The Power Of Now"
Philipp Gorbachev & Hugo Capablanca - "Berlin Esta Helado" (feat La Muerte)
Review: Four very different interpretations of house music prevail on Power. First up is Geffen, whose dubby, staccato drums, bursts of percussive noise and ominous bass provide the backdrop for a series of frequency-shifting tonal blips. Danny F opts for a different path on "Chalole Batata", where a pulsing bassline and heavy drums steer the arrangement into an ethnic chanting break down. Christian S's contribution is tracky and designed specifically for DJs; centring on rolling, insistent drums and mangled filters, its crashing cymbals enhance its impetus. Finally, the trio of Philipp Gorbachev, Hugo Capablanca and La Muerte deliver the deranged vocals and noisy voodoo groove of "Berlan Esta Helado" - which sounds like vintage Chicken Lips on acid.

Blinkduus Dischetto - "Sein Cirque Les Poppies" (4:45)
Monica Venturella - "Page Not Found" (4:52)
Orso - "Bastardo" (6:00)
Review: Proper euphoric tune-tutelage from the Ajaccio label Digital Finesse, a good name for the label for sure. Run by Jimmy Batt, Digital Finesse's M.O. encompasses curt EPs as well as multitrack V/As, polished and readied for maximum credo. 'I Bastardi Aiaccini' is one of the latter, a six-track compendium fleshing the best one-offs from their personal roster, all while accelerating and hyper-modernising the classic electro and Italo sounds native to the Mediterranean. Beginning with the crisp, hyperactive, arpeggio-heavy metrosexual fascinator 'Electromotion', we then move into the comparatively gradated boxer 'Concorde' by Human Aventura, before rounding off the A on a note of bursting acid innovation, the instrumental version of Pasqua Pancrazi's 'Danesi'. The B opens on a note of sleaze-funk with the speedy 'Sein Cirque Les Poppies' from Blinkduus Dischetto, before going full-throttle dystopi-speed by way of a minimal but no less driven flat-beat cutup from Monica Venturella, 'Page Not Found'. Orso's 'Bastardo' flaunts the more experimental ends of the label's capacity, with 'Bastardo' hearing motifs of IT-hardcore get plunged into more-than-smokey scourings of Reese and sizzle.

Review: Friendly Monster is a new label that's so far only released the one record, a three-track various artist 12". They've done the same for their second offering, only giving Bendy & Hristo and Free Association a side of real estate each. Combine elements of New York disco with new wave, no wave, minimal wave, whatever wave, and Bendy & Hristo's own edit to their track "Love Contest" has all the makings of a swooning floor filler. Meanwhile the B-side has more of an Arthur Russell element to it, with flashes of Queen, indie rock, rock and cosmic disco mixed in. Two tough and sensual cuts on the one record.

Review: Ashley Beedle and Ray Mang aka The Boogie Twins have reworked and edited one of Paul "Trouble" Anderson's biggest signature tracks. Beedle claimed witnessing Anderson at work at his Electric Ballroom residency back in the day was a major influence, where the late selector would move through boogie, electro, hip-hop and disco, particularly the low slung groove of Trouble On The Land's "A Love That Is Real" that's featured on this 12". Predictably, this fifth installment in their 7" series features two more scorching hot scalpel jobs. First up is Carpentaria aka Sydney's Tamas Jones and Paul Harmon. "Gadget Messiah" with its infectious bassline, creepy but catchy operatic vocals equally startling synth horns that somehow grow on you, a lot! Next is "Der Inder" with its epic analogue synth arpeggio and lush strings sounding rather reminiscent of an eighties film score. On the flip there's Hysteric, getting all Italo on us with its dark vibes and that gritty EBM style bassline on "Arabian 1" with as the title suggests: some exotic instrumentation floating on top of it all. Review: The third edition in Ten Lovers' Coin series hears Marcello Cassanelli, Caruso and Helen McCormack fuse churnout disco, chicken pickin' guitar and Rhodes solos, in an extravaganza of fresh, sartorial dance music. Never pressing too hard, Cassenelli's 'Starlight' and 'Tropical Breeze' go easy on the master channel, with unhurried pan flutes, roiling strings and twizzling G-synths stuck loosely to a soft but firm electro-tropical backbeat. 'Dream Horizon' is a brilliant outerlude on which to close the side. On the flip, Caruso & Helen McCormack allude equally to the Manchester Street Soul scene of the late 80s with 'Have & Hold', whose razor-edge r&b vocals and low-slung progression lend the record a surprise twist. Their 'Love You More', meanwhile is lushness personified, before Caruso's 'Central' chugs magnficently towards the run out groove with oozing synths and glitterball glamour.

Hypernatural - "Stormfront" (Gerd Janson remix) (6:46)
Hypernatural - "Spirit Walk" (Knightlife remix) (6:36)
Review: Charlie Charlie's 'Save Us' is a track brimming with raw emotion, and Mondag's remix feels like a perfect counterpart, bringing a subtle touch of melancholy with its soft saxophone solo. The track maintains its weight, but Mondag's approach gives it a dream-like quality, coaxing out the depths of its aching beauty. Bella Boo's edit brings a noticeable shift, tightening the rhythms and infusing the track with a sharper energy, but it never loses the soul of the original. Gerd Janson, meanwhile, offers an ambient version that feels like an entirely different experience - less immediate, but no less absorbing. On the other side, Hypernatural's remixes expand on the dreamlike, almost otherworldly feeling of the originals. Knightlife's take on 'Spirit Walk' stretches the song's already fluid nature, making it feel weightless, while Gerd Janson's remix of 'Stormfront' adds a darker, more reflective mood.

First off is the dream team of Cid and Havoc & Lawn, whom together deliver a hilariously effective house version of America's 'A Horse With No Name'; this is shortly followed by Saturday Love, Kon and Furious's 'Come Out', a rejigged nu-disco samosa packed with some rare vocal spices; then there's 'Give It To Me' by Marco Lys and Ben Miller, a bass-driven bouncer unafraid of lasershot winddowns, injunctive vocals and risers; and finally, there's Set Mo's 'Could I Be', the anthem of the bunch, whose buildup and drop is alarming, affecting, cumulatively awe-striking.

Highlights include the bouncy, shirts-off loop-disco of Cody Currie's "ACE, At The Point of Collapse", the super-groovy, jazz-flecked deep house warmth of Demuir's "Let's Get In It", the effervescent sweetness of Black Loops' summery roller "French Affair", and the fluttering flute solos of Hotmood's goodtime jazz-funk revision "Voyage To The Onda". Having long since turned their attention to retro-futurist house, the New York band here turn up with Deetron for a slice of wonky, analogue house-pop. The original version is more H&LA than Deetron -all hipster-ish vocals, '80s bleeps and shuffling space-pop groovery. There's a touch of disco in the grubby guitars, but they're barely audible above the 8-bit bleeps and swinging drums. Deetron himself provides a tougher, faster, more techno-centric dub that has "basement anthem" written all over it.

There's an additional contributor, too: a mystery (presumably big-name) vocalist whose talk-box heavy delivery sits somewhere between Prince, George Clinton and Pharrell. The track itself is something of a summer anthem in the making - an immaculately produced P-Funk jam with the additional benefit of a shuffling, house-friendly groove. Review: This limited gatefold double 12", brought to us from that Dmitri guy who loves Paris, reshapes four classic Philly stompers for 2010 dancefloors. Get Down With The Philly Sound sees Dmitri in fine form with two reworks of the Teddy Pendergrass fronted Harold Mevlin & The Blue Notes, plus the Philly Devotions' "Hurt So Bad." Review: Dinosaur L's "Go Bang" is an enduring classic from the golden period when house and disco mixed freely. It was hammered at Paradise Garage and has been re-edited many times. Next up to have a go on Arthur Russell's Sleeping Bag is Danny Krivit who edits Walter Gibbons's remix. The drums are snappy, the groove urgent, the funk very real. ON the flip, Krivit tackles an edit of a Larry Levon remix of Hanson & Davis - "I'll Take You On". It is loose, with tumbling drums and tooting arps next to the shiny, soraing vocals. Classic stuff.

Build A House (Tensnake remix)
Review: A swift return to Internasjonal for Cocktail D'Amour's Discodromo, with their cosmically charged disco burner "Build A House" lined with the distinctive vocal talents of diva supreme Hard Ton. His soaring vocals are the perfect accompaniment to a vintage Discodromo production that updates the disco template superbly - laying down a devilish bassline groove that sucks you in before Hard Ton arrives and blows you away. Label boss Prins Thomas turns in a fine dub remix that naturally brings the bassline to the fore whilst subjecting the vocal and melodic elements to all manner of reverse trickery! And look, the flip has a remix from your man Tensnake, who rewires the track to some sort of Jellybean Benitez mid 90s pump and in the process delivers his finest work for some time.

Review: Tatsy Recordings is up to a fifth release and it wants you to sample what it is all about with this fine sampler. It kicks off with Disko Junkie's 'I Like To Party' which will indeed get you ready to party with its lavish grooves. A Nu Disco Mix of Discotron's 'September' then brings more good time feels with its colourful synths and vibrant rhythms. Flip it over and HP Vince has got the sauce with 'Got The Groove' with its loopy bass and classic samples, House Punkz then rework another super smooth soul sample into some disco house beats and Serial Thrilla end it all with the slamming 'More More More.'

Review: Renowned for releases on DFA, !K7, Rong and Clone amongst others, DJ Kaos has spread his Chicago infused house message to the whole world. Now, on German imprint Diynamic, he drops a deep and grooving electronic workout in "Hard to Earn". Sharing this exclusive release is a special collaboration between Holger Zilske and Daso who turn in a wonderfully unique and twisted number in the form of "Westbound". Finishing the release, Solomun ties in a low-slung, groove-led rework of "Hard to Earn".

Review: Having already introduced us to many of their regular 'pals' - re-editors specialising in Balearic and cosmic oddities - Manchester's Drum Chums crew now wants is to meet their 'percussion pals'. They operate within similar sonic territory if this first multi-artist missive is believed, albeit with more of a penchant for dubbed-out drums. There's plenty to set the oulse racing throughout, from the metronomic dub-chug of Spice Route's incredible 'Gruler Dub' - a fine re-edit debut from the long-serving Bristol selector - and the expertly dubbed-out space disco trip that is DJ Pouffsouffle's 'Totally Manic'. Elsewhere, Manc stalwart Neil Diablo delivers the ultra-slow weird-wave pop of 'Starry Night', while Hysteric's 'Pinball' is a blue-eyed soul treat.

Review: The debut release in a new EP series from Bordeaux's Monomoods label, ordained for nu-disco and Italo disco lovers. The label call on four resident producers - Doctr, Brian Ring, Astore, and Hysteric - to each deploy their very own dancefloor finesser here. Ensuring maximum satisfaction at a near constant drip-fed rate, 'Boxer' and 'Open Secret' bring us nonstop synthy, glam-glittered gusto; the latter track is special indeed, and a highlight of ours. The feeling of pure glee is tossed asunder by the B-side, however, with 'Mandarin Energy' bringing profound chord-data to an anomalistically expansive mood, and 'Adventure' fitting perfectly as the lighter, but still heavy, gated-snared Italowave number of eclectic choice.

Hotmood - "El-Artista" (7:04)
Review: Editorial's 28th vinyl outing is a split affair, with label mainstays Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee handling the A side and Hotmood holding court on the B. Interestingly, the standout of Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee's side is a wonderfully groovy, synth-sporting deep house re-make of "Shades of Blue" by Sheffield-based Leicester Lad Scott Moncrieff AKA Thatmanmonkz, though the head-nodding, toe-tapping chunk of jazz-funk/instrumental soul that follows it, "Cantina", is also rather good. As for Hotmood, they provide some instant party-starting vibes via the low-slung disco-funk-meets-house loop jam "Chico Shake", before exploring breezier dancefloor pastures via the flute-sporting goodness of "El Arista". In a word: solid.

Review: Hot'N'Spicy's eponymous series hits a fifth volume here and with a brilliant neon pink vinyl to boot. This one kicks off with downtempo disco master Eddie C and his funky, rugged, low slung looper 'Big City Freak' before Paul Older ups the energy with his old school disco samples and long legged drums all encourage lots of loose and fluid body movement. HOLDTight is first up on the flip with a more serene and comically minded groove that reaches for the stars on 'Afrodisiaaa' and then it's a rare and wonderful outing from disco boffin Bill Brewster who offers the sensuous slow motion romancer that is 'Love Easy.'

Review: We may not be able to gather to dance outdoors under a blazing sun or a blanket of stars, but there's no harm in a little musical daydreaming. That's what the latest multi-artist Ravenelli Disco Club release is all about: summery escapism that comes with a big dollop of rush-inducing disco release. Ethyene sets the tone with the colourful boogie-house fusion of "Let Love" - all twinkling synth motifs, echoing percussion hits, thickset grooves and hazy vocal samples - before Carlo raises the temperature via some jazzy deep house heaviness in the vein of Derrick Carter's "boompty" era. Over on side B, Hotmood's "Magical Flight" is a surging, string-drenched disco-house roller, while Rees' "The Way You Mood" is a tooled-up take on what sounds like a classic Philadelphia International cut.

Cherrystones - "Gom Reg Raga" (6:53)
Review: The Duca Bianco posse continue to plough headlong into the thicket of vintage dance music across genre boundaries, with a crack team of deepest diggers picking out lesser spotted jams and giving them an expert re-rub. First up, Franz Scala drops some synth-pop B-side dub mix magic on 'Sweet Carillon', before Hysteric leaps into action with the staccato body-popping bombast of 'Pleides', coming on like Yello and The Human League rocking out with Thomas Dolby. Beatfoot & DJ Dollpin bring a seriously salty slice of proto trance voodoo on 'Osdorp Discoteca', capturing the magic of the sound when a melting pot of influences such as Italo disco were feeding into the musical mix. Cherrystones finishes things off with 'Gom Reg Raga', a loping, polyrhythmic meditation with plenty of mysticism folded in between the earthen drums.

Review: Edmonton crew Common Edit resurface with their first 7" treat in almost a year with Andrew Allsgood's Free Association and Honey Disco's Hristo sharing sides. As with all Common Edit releases it's a record of two halves with the Hristo production floor worthy whilst the Free Association track one for more horizontal situations. It's hard to describe "Free Sensation" as anything other than dreamy, with Allsgood revealing a dubby adventure into sumptuous dancefloor disco funk with some absolutely killer filtering. A decidedly more taut sensation runs through "Heat Market" from Hristo which is some uncredited, rigid disco funk perfect for the more cosmically minded selectors.

Holkin - "Guitar Hero" (4:51)
Review: We've been quietly impressed with the quality of the scalpel works showcased on Russia's It's A Steal label to date, in part because they tend to avoid the obvious and focus on obscure and off-kilter source material. The label's fourth missive is another must-check affair. Newcomer Friend's Jacuzzi kicks things off with a tidy rearrangement of what sounds like a rubbery, turn-of-the-80s Russian disco-funk gem, before label regular Holin takes over with "Mountain Breeze", a wonderful tweak of a clarinet-laden deep jazz-funk gem. He's at the controls on side two, where the slap-bass heavy Russian disco-boogie flex of "Georgian Wedding" (a track that features a brilliantly over the top spoken word vocal and piano solos aplenty) is joined by the eccentric Eastern European new age/jazz-funk/jazz fusion quirkiness that is "Guitar Hero".

Review: Two bands with a similar cross over between indie and dance fans, the plan to release a joint covers love-in apparently came from a casual meeting between the bands last July. Finally it drops this week, St Albans boys Friendly Fires going first up with their version of Holy Ghost's Hold On. A DFA classic, this put Holy Ghost on the map (courtesy of some slyly sampled drums from Livin' It Up by Bell and James). Friendly Fires however give it a totally different feel, with a stuttering beat and stabbing bass taking centre stage along with the Fires' trademark penchant for layer upon layer of percussion. With the vocal delivered in an off-kilter manner, it's only the tremeloed synth line that survives from the original, making it a pretty radical cover, but one that works at the same time.

Holy Ghost slow down the tempo on Friendly Fires' debut single On Board and give it some serious disco action - adding arpeggiated keyboards and a deep bassline as well as some fierce snares. The mantra-like vocals of the original are perfect for a more dance-orientated tune, and Holy Ghost stay faithful to them, making good use of the catchy "don't stop" chorus. An excellent idea all round, and two great covers to enjoy.

First up on this various artists 12" is The Funk District, who keeps things heady and swooning on the Philly string busting 'Like A Bird On A Cage'. Hotmood, fresh from bringing the good stuff to Disco Fruit, is feeling feisty on the decidedly jacked up 'La La La'. It's an uptempo stomper with a relentless charge and a loopy flavour that could sit in a techno set as easily as a disco one. C Da Afro and JB Boogie team up to kick the B side off with 'Latin Vibez', which works in some choice 80s electro funk flavours amongst the driving disco beat.

This is a two-part vinyl release with the first part featuring The Funk District hailing from Cancun, who kicks off the A side with "The Funky Joint". He gets a good ol' time shuffle going before handing it over to Parisian Oldchap for a proper low-slung boogie in the form of "To The Top". This 12" sampler sees tracks from GBs, Mercury, Headman and Munk himself. First up is Renault's edit to GBs "Lucky In Vichy", a tribal tinged and synthesised disco burner, while Renault's remix to Munk's "Keeps My Secret" sees deep leads and housey stabs venture into Runaway territory - Renault's remix project with Marcos Cabral. This return to action has been masterminded by Merseyside scalpel fiends Greg Wilson ("GW") and Henry Greenwood, whose fine revision of Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" kick-started the imprint six years ago. A-side "Disco Mondo" is a rolling revision of a lesser-known breathy disco jam of (we think) Italian origin. It boasts a metronomic groove, wah-wah guitars, elongated organ chords, congas for days and a few well-placed swirling electronic effects. Over on side B, "In The City" is a dreamy chunk of mid-tempo, Italo-disco influenced synth-pop.
