Review: We've come accustomed to Andrew Meecham using his Emperor Machine alias to deliver seriously hypnotic, modular synthesizer workouts. On 2500 Vol 1, he takes a different tack, serving up a trio of tracks created using his trusty MPC25000. Naturally, mind-altering electronic sounds remain the order of the day, with both "2500 Edit" and the even wilder "System 700 Jam" doffing a cap to vintage acid house, whilst retaining the much-loved looseness and dustiness of his regular productions. Flipside cut "System 100 Jam" is a sparse but pleasingly weird affair - think simple beats, and lots of curious electronic sounds - while Internasjonal boss Prins Thomas emphasizes Meecham's military percussion and dirty bass on his fine remix of "2500".

Review: Internasjonal's refreshingly worldwide focus continues apace here with a comprehensive label debut from Belgrade-based musician and producer Nenad Markovic. Despite high profile names like Mark E, Hunee and Mano Le Tough appearing on the label, Internasjonal has largely been a platform for unheralded talent to shine and Markovic certainly does that with Kayto. This seven track album presents the eminently talented Croatian to have a true mastery of his instruments and a production style that is effortlessly contemporary in it's approach to disco. The bugged out jazz house of "Theme" and the Balearically inclined "Weather" are standouts on a fine debut release.

Review: Melbourne music-maker Roland Tings is the latest talent from down under to make his name on the other side of the world. His early productions for 100% Silk caught the ear of Prins Thomas, who promptly ordered a debut album for his Internasjonal label. That album has finally arrived and, predictably, it's rather good. Largely cheery and melodious, it fuses the humid warmth of a Melbourne summer - as captured in the material of many of the city's beat-makers - with the synthesizer-heavy tunefulness of Scandolearic nu-disco and a myriad of classic house influences. He moves between tempos regularly, too, with some of the album's slower moments - particularly the early Aeroplane style Balearic chug of "Devotion" - outwitting their more obviously floor-friendly counterparts.

Who U Love (12")
Cat: INT 027. Rel: 28 Apr 14
Deep House
  1. Who U Love (12" version)
  2. Tiger In A Tropical Storm
  3. Floating On A Salt Lake (12" version)
Review: In the past, Melbourne-based producer Roland Tings has taken a different approach to his peers. So far, he's focused mainly on his impressive live shows (see the excellent Live in Thornbury cassette on 100% Silk), limited his vinyl appearances to just two 12" singles. Here, he changes tack, delivering a trio of fluid, melodic, Scandolearic-influenced deep house cuts for Prins Thomas' Internasjonal label. There's a gentle breeziness to opener "Who U Love", which rolls along nicely on a wave of hissing cymbals, Larry Heard chords and looped vocal samples. There's more percussive punch to the murky "Tiger in a Tropical Storm", which is notably sparse in comparison. Best of all, though, is the rush-inducing deep house jam "Floating on a Salt Lake", which sounds a little like Tornado Wallace's brilliant work for ESP Institute.
