Selador Decade Vol 1
Cat: SELV 008. Rel: 18 Apr 23
3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

Review: For its seventh release, southern Italians Obscura Music return to welcome exciting new talents and core label acts. Head honchos Agents Of Time venture down an electro route with "East Coast", as do the ever impressive London Modular Alliance on the hypnotic "Buck One". Man of the moment Aussie Jensen Interceptor channels classic Drexciyan aesthetics on "Manix" before homeboys and label staples Hiver come through with the slinky and hypnotic tech house of "Stasys" and Detroit veteran Kris Wadsworth makes a surprising appearance with some slow burning minimalism displayed on closer "Abroad".

Starlight (feat Tyesha Blount) (6:00)
Matador Beach (instrumental) (3:27)
Matador Beach (vocal mix) (2:47)
Review: Word on the street is that Alister is the next big thing to come out of the Motor City. The song writer and producer must be hotly tipped, frankly, because the one and only Omar S has taken him under his wing and recorded and mixed these two new tunes, which are tasters from his full length album to come in the spring. They bare all his hallmarks too - crunchy, dusty drums, rugged chord vamps and prickly perc. 'Starlight' is all that with an added vocal, while 'Matador Beach' is more trippy and nocturnal, with a delicate falsetto lost in pinball melodies and ricocheting hits.

VSK - "Breaking Symmetry" (5:54)
Tommy Four Seven - "Dromod" (4:15)
Review: Tommy Four Seven's eponymous imprint returns with more bleak and dystopian techno tools of industrial strength grade. Featuring the always ferocious Ancient Methods and the wonky drones of "System", Berlin duo Oake hypnotise you into submission as always with their esoteric imaginary soundtrack entitled "Anaxamines" before Italian producer VSK delivers the EPs finest moment on the rather Surgeon sounding broken techno stomper "Breaking Symmetry". The man himself T47 closes this fine EP out with the shredding body bash of "Dromod" that's mangled up amongst metallic textures, grinding sub bass and generous servings of clipped distortion; business as usual!

Jamie Anderson & Owain K - "Aqua Dub" (7:36)
Francisco Aguado - "Balance" (7:19)
Star Dub - "Forst" (7:03)
Volpe - "Ever Growing" (6:13)
Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Ending on a high note, the brisk and flighty 'Ever Growing' by Volpe completes the ninth edition in a rapturous mood. If you like deep techno, the OHM series is a must to collect.

Review: The boys behind South London Analogue Material return with their fifth edition (following up a great previous edition by ABSL) with some brutalist and no holds barred techno. Ansome and Ossian go for the jugular right from the get go on the pulverizing onslaught of "Butch" while Ayacarna's remix up next takes the track into pure sonic noise terror. On the flip, the lo-fi and cyclical grind of "Buck" calls to mind early Mills or Regis and the PDL remix up next provides the most subtle moment on the record on this deep and hypnotic slow burner which was a real treat we must say.

Arctor - "The Gulf" (David Harleydson remix) (6:03)
Review: New Glasgow electro label Tremors presents their first vinyl release, featuring a collection of remixes of tracks from their Bandcamp back catalogue. Aftershocks Volume 1 kicks off with a particularly bold remix by Klakson boss Dexter who turns Old Boy's "Tracer" into an electro-bass monster, James Shinra (Analogical Force) channels the best of the Motor City on his emotive rework of Arctor's "Memory Gene" rounding up the A side. On the flip, Arctor remains the focus, with remixes of "Selfish Lover" by Forward Strategy Group's Patrick Walker and Hungarian newcomer David Harleydson impressed us likewise with his fierce and futurist perspective of "The Gulf".

Arnaldo - "People In The Sand"
Joey Anderson - "One World"
October - "Decompression Chamber"
Leif - "Until Dawn"
Review: It is labels like UntilMyHeartStops that proudly do deep house justice. The fourth EP to come from the UK imprint, and third this year, is a various artist sampler featuring label inaugurator Joey Anderson, who is joined by the best of British; October, Lief and the impressive Arnaldo. The latter opens the EP with something sparse, dubby and lonely in "People In The Sand", while A Side companion Anderson delivers an effervescent and cosmic "One World". October toughens up the EP with his bullish and phase filtered "Decompression Chamber", while the combined classicalism, ambience and slow drums of Lief's "Until Dawn" is reminiscent to Sven Weisemann's music as Joeum.

Autre - "Seiryu" (7:02)
Kryptic Universe - "01309 Stairways" (9:04)
Owen Jay & Brian James - "Chordless" (5:25)
Review: Given the success of the first two installments of the Editions series, it's little surprise to see XDB put together a third volume for his Metrolux imprint. He's assembled another crack team of international contributors, too. Autre and Xinner join forces on opener "Nebula", a fine combination of low-slung techno drums, restless electronics and deep space sonics. Autre goes solo to deliver the fluttering, late night hypnotism of "Seiryu", before Kryptic Universe steals the show with "01309 Stairways", a superb chunk of rolling intelligent techno that features an extended ambient intro. Owen Jay and Brian James round things off with the distorted drum machine hits and woozy riffs of "Chordless" (which, to be fair, is an accurate title).

Estrato Aurora & Siarem - "Fuego" (6:10)
Human Space Machine - "Persist" (6:39)
OK EG - "Dual Path" (7:15)
Review: Deeper shades of a finely sifted pedigree. Irish label Appian Sounds, helmed up by Al Blayney, champion only winnowed techno sounds, not threshed. A welcome international team huddle in, with these six artists from locales as far-flung as Amsterdam and Valencia contributing the likes of 'Tsuneo' and 'Persist'. The tunes verge melodic as they move through and beyond jankiness, distending die-cut acids and subtly synthetic humanisations, especially in the percussion department. 'Fuego' is the zen roshi's choice, its gaffered, glass-smithed pads topping off a naturalistic percussive surging forward, one best experienced with your eyes closed.

Review: Eclectic technoizer Basic Bastard locks arms with Detroiter Orlando Voorn, their dual sonic output being the new 'Drama' EP. The three-tracker is nothing short of a sonic adventure, spanning acid, to dub, to uncategorisable entrainments. Bastard's original 'Drama' nails the art of the acid loop, a tricky tactic that is much less masterable than one might think. Voorn remixes the track my miring its elements in a cruddy ambience, while also greedily occupying the entire B-side with the urban-hellish jazz-noise-house cut 'Survival'.

Review: Proper techno here for proper techno heads as Leyla offers up a various artists EP of the highest order. The percussive clatter and clanging drums of Remco Beekwilder's 'Industrofunk' are designed for main room destruction. Grindvik & OnScreenActor go for a caustic world of rusty synth textures and clattering drums on 'Perfectly Crushed!' and CASKO's 'Revenge Spells' bangs the box with manic vocal loops and edgy sirens building paranoid techno tension. Domenico Crisci's 'Driving On The SS7' is the mind-melting synth laden workout to finish this EP in style.

Big Strick - "Armed & Dangerous"
Review: Leonard "Big Strick" Strickland is perhaps best known for his family ties with Omar-S (they're cousins), though his productions are well worthy of praise in their own right. Here, he offers up a sampler 12" featuring cuts from his recent (and excellent) Reservoir Dogs LP. Perhaps the most noteworthy cut is "Family Affair", a lovingly constructed chunk of hypnotic, melodic deepness written with Omar-S. That said, Strick's solo effort "Armed & Dangerous" - a winding chunk of voodoo techno - is arguably better. The mazy techno-funk of Reckless Ron Cook's "Night Moves" is also outstanding.

Stefan Vincent - "You Taught Me How To Hate" (5:47)
Review: As the title suggests, this 12" provides a second selection of cuts from Dynamic Reflection's recent five-piece box set, "Continuum". First into bat is Blawan, whose moody, foreboding and intense "The Narrowing" is a deliciously crackly, mind-altering slab of Halloween-friendly horror-techno. SHDW and Obscure Shape successfully join forces for the retro-futurist brilliance of track 2 "Zuruck Ins Licht" - think "Brown Album" era Orbital fused with mid-'90s James Ruskin fare - while Jeroen Search serves up some serious dancefloor hypnotism in the shape of EP highlight "Fundamental Force". To round up a fine EP of slamming peak-time techno, Stefan Vincent does his best Surgeon impression on "You Taught Me How To Hate".

Paul Boex - "Hate Is Love" (Oscar Mulero remix)
Paul Boex - "Hate Is Love"
Paul Boex - "Cybersluts"
Oscar Mulero - "Iron Curtain"
Review: The Dynamic Reflection team deliver another storming release of pounding techno with "Hate is Love." This time it comes from none other than label boss, Paul Boex and his biggest influence, the ever active Oscar Mulero.

Recent releases for his own Warm Up Recordings label have seen Mulero kill dancefloors the world over.
Now, he comes to Paul Boex’s imprint to open this release with a remix of the Dutchman's "Hate is Love." His version flies straight off the mark with a pounding beat and frantic, high pitched synth stabs. It effortlessly builds tension and drama as it progresses before a breakdown lures all the sound beneath a still driving 4/4 beat. Inevitably though, Mulero reinstates the noise, turning "Hate is Love" into a true, peak time smasher. I suppose we can expect nothing less from this man by now. Following the Spaniard’s remix is Paul Boex’s original. Still a thumping techno track, the original effort feels more reserved than the remix due to in no small part, a beautiful soundscape that lingers in the background throughout the entire tune. It gives the track an epic feel, taking you on a wonderful, dream-like journey of moods and atmospheres. Returning to some highly energised techno, Boex delivers the jacking "Cybersluts" next on the schedule. Synth jabs, FX, jaunting basslines and the customary driving beat make this a full body shaking, sub-human alien. "Iron Curtain" is even more alien, spacing wailing synths far out into the depths as high end percussion snaps in the foreground. A truly futuristic sound palette emerges on this techno wig out, proving that Boex can go blow for blow with his inspiration, Oscar Mulero.

Review: DVS1's Mistress imprint acts as a side label to his main label Hush and is focused just as much on house as it is techno and everything in between. Upon first glance, it's pretty evident that these are some fairly austere techno tools for the second edition in his Mistress Special Release - why else rein in Madrid's master mentalist Oscar Mulero for the bleak, tunnel vision of "Drops". Border One (Form & Function/Invites Choice) appears with the chime-driven hypnotism of "Curve" which just so happened to appear on the label head honcho's recent Fabric mix, and Spaniard Maan (more commonly known as Psyk) serves up some rather Robert Hood sounding bleep minimalism on "Doubt".

Review: Ron Wilson's 777 serves up more raw and rusty house jams on a new various artists sampler entitled Internal Affairs: this is serious! On the A side is newcomer Brighton with "Tesla" (Leaves Remix), while Frankfurt's Orson Wells gives us "Ratio" where Saarbruckens finest: Roger 23 gets on the remix and delivers a lush deep acid rendition this side of Tin Man. Review: A dream team line up for this four way that heads off in various directions across detailed and trippy techno landscapes. Those who have been following these heads will understand what we mean- with the quartet all beginning to rise to prominence now and finally claiming the kind of respect they deserve. Saverio Celestri brings 'Ethereal', packed with direct cymbal work, lilting reversed organs creating leftfield-but-dancefloor business with plenty of usability. Midgar label manager Jacopo, toughest from the names here, takes us down an arpeggiated acid route, never quite unleashing but acting as precursor to whatever bangs come next. Otis' 'Axes of Continuity' has a simple three-four note melody mirrored by bumbling bass, and should sound ideal at anything with a free party vibe. Review: Danny Wolfers returns to his brilliant Chicago Shags alias - this time gracing the excellent Creme JAK series with some sublime analogue manoeuvres. "Irrational Excess" commences proceedings in ridiculous form, with Wolfers using all his machine funk expertise to throw down wave after wave of cascading analogue showers over unforgiving 808 rhythms. Wipe yourself down from that sweat filled joy for the more delicately melodic "Disorderly Orchard", with the rough acid and percussive edges offset by the intricate synth work. Traverse to the B Side where breathless vocal edits and gut hugging analogue basslines run through "Lost In A Blue Night" though it's the big waves of Chicago emotion that grab you. Davenport needs no introduction these days and the Berghain regular's "Bloodchild" rides the fine line between house and techno perfectly with a dark twisted bass line driven groove and eerie vocal line that typifies his unique sound. Techno veteran Aubrey turns in a storming techno monster of a remix of Ed Davenport's unreleased "Islands" which represents a welcome return to Mosaic after his last appearance with the Contact Funk EP back in 1997! Representing the new school is rising Belgian techno talent David Nizet (aka Ozka) whose wonderful bass line driven dub-stab-fest "Thirteen Years" demonstrates why he's such a hot tip!

Review: Perpetual Rhythms is already well-regarded as a bastion of quality amongst contemporary Chicago house labels, and now they've downright sealed the deal with this mammoth compilation from a stellar cast of local cats. There's too many to all list in detail here, so focusing on the highlights, Dcee leads things in with the tumbling cosmic jazz leanings of "Suavecito," Hakim Murphy teases with a spacious and daring exploration in the liminal zone between ambient and house, and Obsolete Music Technology gets invigorating with the bouncy "High Top Fade." Those tracks alone are enough to deserve your hard earned, but there's reams of other excellent forward-facing Windy City jams to sink your teeth into.

Ruf Dug - "Tape 13"
Review: Following up their last compilation 12" with another spread of artists, Deep Space Orchestra's Use Of Weapons imprint hits release number five in fine, classic techno style. The A-Side presents plenty of elegiac goodness to expunge in the peak of the night, not least from Asok with the wistful emotion of "Amber". On the B-Side, Perseus Traxx is especially on point here with his shimmering, Carl Craig-indebted groover, while Other Worlds finds an excellent nagging groove that edges towards hi-tech jazz with its jerky hats and intricate melodies. Ruf Dug is on more mellow form, but no less rooted in the fine approaches of the Detroit godfathers with his warbling pad lines and curious bass.

Review: Trident is dropping a couple of top EPs this month. One is from Derrek Carr, and one is this double white 12" that finds Deltamaxx and O En One join forces. They take us on a storytelling trip through cosmic techno that varies in mood and tempo. 'Conexxion' rides a nice rubbery, bumpy groove with incidental and wispy synth sounds, then 'Delta Pavonis' seems to soundtrack a beach party up amongst the stars. There are darker, more heady cuts like 'Donnager' and icy electro cinematics on 'Isonoe' to make for a worthy collection of sounds that work on the dancefloor and beyond.

Review: The always on-the-money Run Out Run label boomerangs itself back onto our shelves with their seventh release, this time a split effort from a pool of techno juggernauts form around the globe. Label boss Tom Dicicco drops a heavy-loaded master blaster in "16 Reels" - fierce sonics and filtered beats sprawling from every angle - and TX Connect aka Dallas-based producer Gavin Guthrie delivers his usual slice-n-dice approach thanks to an artillery of gritty drum machine beats and bubbly, rolling melodies on "Clouds Like Leopards". On the B-side, there's some Chicago ghetto action from Hermans and Mr Ho on "Late Night Scuttla (Hard Dizzle)", and Bristol's October and Borai team up to make the deep, mystical and dubby sway of "So Many Days".

Review: TV Hill Records starts things off rough and curiosity-rousing, with a technical itch from OG AG (Andrew Grant) in collaboration with fellow producer Dimneonsum. A mid-paced deep techno calculator, 'What's Up Everybody' pares back any semblance of emotion for pure robotic urgency, with every sound moving in juddering clockwork lockstep in an abstracted world of pure, preservative mathematic topology. Opener 'San Fran' pits nervous FM loops against an equally anxious Shepard-tonal riser, while calmer moments such as the beatless 'Drakey' still disquiet with their eerie glassiness. One for the bleepy heads, the only humanistic element is the revelatory vocal sample on 'Found Out'.

Review: The latest audio missive from the My Own Jupiter camp brings together debutant Nicholas Lutz (here using the previously unused Draculas Lutz alias) and former CABARET Recordings producer Omar Chibarro. They pair begins proceedings with arresting A-side "Instrumento", a bold, bass-heavy and angular electro jam packed with mind-altering acid lines and shimmering, deep space motifs. They change tack on the flipside, accompanying snappy, organ-laced NYC garage bumper "Tschuss" with the hybrid acid-jack/spacey house bluster of quality closer "Gerogliftko". While stylistically varied, the EP's three tracks are united by an attractive looseness that only emphasizes the thrillingly wayward nature of the duo's otherworldly electronics.

Age Of Iron

Seven Signs
Review: When it comes to techno, can it get any more serious than a collaboration between Ancient Methods and Orphx released on rock hard Belgian label Token? Well yes, as soon as you hear the music is does. "Age Of Iron" sounds like the sub-aqueous dub of Rich Oddie exchanging blows with an armoury of Ancient Methods percussion, while "Degenerate" is proper, rigid and heads down techno funnelled through a tubular filter. "Kali" features the same type of rolling rhythm, stop-start loops as what's heard throughout Regis' early work, only the frequency spectrums are sculpted to form a musical production, even though this is industrial techno, while "Seven Signs" croaks, clinks, and jangles like shackles scraping against concrete, sounding like something designed for dungeon clubbing - and, we might add, it's worth powering through the sonic malevolence for the drum breakdown alone.

Pole Group's number one, Oscar Mulero, provides "Blackstar", a track that combines Surgeon-style grittiness with the big notes of Function, while Manni Dee, fresh off his two Black Sun Records EPs and the deep dub-steppy Being And Nothingness release, dons a Perc Trax uniform for the first time with the eerie techno slab "Serenity".

Review: Underground Enigmatic Techno, or simply known as Urgent, is Odd Music's sub-label and its second outing involved ODD teaming up with newcomer Deego Fresh on the shadowy white label series. Fresh himself drops some killer quasi breakbeat action on "Output This", and those rickety beats surrounded by delayed chords remind us of Shed on his Power House series, while "The Balance" heads further into deep house territories thanks to its mild keys and laid-back approach. ODD comes through on "Accompong", a minimal techno number with plenty of subdued FX trickery and an altogether dubwise mood. Top stuff, this!

Complementary System (Brando Lupi remix)
Review: There's little room for criticism when it comes to the Zooloft label overseen by messrs Giorgio Gigli and Obtane: a steady stream of refined noirish techno from themselves and the likes of Tin Man and Milton Bradley has arrived in the three years the label has been active, all complemented by some impeccable artistic direction and a firm grasp of brilliant release titles. The latest release tasks Claro Intelecto, Svreca and Brando Lupi with the intriguing task of refining some tracks from the private archives of the Zooloft bosses. Heads will mull this equation round in their dome piece momentarily and need no further persuasion, but for those unsure read on. Recent Delsin addition Claro Intelecto takes the entire A Side over to remould . "Underlying Destruction Of The Environmental Ties" into a steadily rattling drone techno delight, while Semantica boss Svreca conjures up all manner of creeping, claustrophobia inducing sonic imagery on a expertly sculpted take on "The Revolt Of The Objects". Donato Dozzy's sometime studio partner Lupi ensures the quality does not dip at all with a remix of "Complementary System" that splays all manner of malfunctioning bleepery over a dub-techno mainframe.

This first release features a spread of talent both established and emergent, all bound together by a love of illustrious machine soul. Gilbert leads in with the sumptuous tones of "Birds Of Paradise" before Mark Hand takes control with the uptempo cascade of "Lessons." Review: The small but already well-formed Innate label offers up a superb split EP for its sixth outing. Gilbert opens up with 'Low Flying Objects', a widescreen and serene bit of synth-laden tendon with more than a hint of Motor City soul over the dusty drums. 'Unknown Entities' is a brain-cleansing and celestial electro-styled cut with dreamy pads and cinematic deepness. Bristol-born, Welsh-rooted Owain K then steps up to the flip with equally painterly sounds. 'Corona Borealis' pairs deep and rubbery bass with crisp electro drum patterns and far-sighted chords. 'New Horizon' then closes out with some delightfully dozy deep house that's laden with wispy chords and undulating bass.

First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

Review: It's been two years since Kellam Matthews launched his retro-futurist, breakbeat-driven Frendzone label via a fine split EP featuring cuts from Ames Henry and Octo Octa. This follow-up is therefore arguably long overdue. Fittingly, it's Henry that gets things going in stellar fashion via Paul Kav collaboration "Business in Hasenheide", an urgent fusion of two-step drums, thrusting acid bass and jumpy synth stabs. Ames then goes solo on the breezy bounce of "Tribute", before Fanu successfully roughs things up via the mutant sub-bass, dystopian noises and distorted breakbeats of "Dubia". The undisputed highlight, though, is Octo Octa's "For My Girls", a wonderfully spooky and hectic jungle roller that's guaranteed to set pulses racing out on the dancefloor.

Review: Dub techno don Luke Hess has been a mainstay of Omar S's FXHE label for as long as we, or anyone in fact, can remember. The Motor City talent dropped this particular EP, 'Dubout EP #3.13', back in 2011 but it now resurfaces and has aged to perfection with some extra touches from Smith himself. 'Narrow Road' is strident and direct dub techno with signature FXHE chords. 'Leads To Life' is more liquid and paired back with an undulating bassline and a cosmic feel to the swirling pads. 'Unity Excerpt' closes with more icy beats, hi-hats and skittish synths that snake throughout the mix.

Review: Luke Hess delivered a stunning, dub techno masterclass with this rather unexpected gem on the FXHE label back in 2017 with fellow Motor City great Omar S on production. The superb title track opens with shimmering dub chords and hypnotic rhythms that evolve slowly but powerfully. 'Renewal' offers a more direct approach by channelling the spirit of Brendon Moeller's Beat Pharmacy. On the flip, 'Sacred' strips things back with a staggered groove, airy pads and a one-note bassline circling deep into the night. Closing track 'Motor Dub' nods to Deepchord with its swirling delays and spacious, bass-heavy mix. For fans of Basic Channel and immersive, textured techno, this is irresistible.

Myztical - "Summer '91"
Review: Other Heights round out their decorated entry into 2013 with the last of three various artist EPs. Like EP I / III, which raised its curtain with the debut of Gaust, EP III / III sees newcomer J.Tijn open in frenetic and acidic style with "Three 0 Freedom", while Texan dubstep producer VVV's stomping "Burrowing" shares many similarities with Ghostek's "Cryon" from Other Heights seventh release Leaving For The City Of Saints. On the flip, Ozka returns to the label after a split EP in 2011 with Jakob Altmann, and he supplies the loopy and bass-centric "KMZ". Another prize picking from label owner Kerschot is the inclusion of Myztical's rough and dusty house jam "Summer '91" - a name to look out for if his Analogue Experiences EP on upstart Nicz Records is anything to go by.

Review: The Time To Panic label began in style with a release from Ildec earlier this year and now they're back with a various artists split disc which widens out their approach as a label. Samuel Jabba kicks off the record with 'Flatline', a sinewy slice of noirish synth house which will be perfect for anyone wanting to get the dancefloor a little on-edge. Aniano has a similarly full-fat analogue-style sound, but there's a more playful quality to the wonky synths working their way through 'El Terror De Ga?ldar', while Omar Akhrif kicks off the B-side with the dark and dangerous stomper 'Mud'. Javier Carballo completes the picture with 'I Hear You', a perfectly sinister sign off on a record that will appeal to all denizens of the night.

Review: The Athens-based Pi collective has so far used their Modal Analysis Records-backed Pi Electronics imprint to deliver a quintet of decidedly dystopian experimental techno EPs. You'll find more fuzzy fare on Variable, the label's first attempt at a compilation style, multi-artist extravaganza. Former Napalm Death member JK Flesh kicks things off with the mind-altering analogue electronics and industrial-tinged techno rhythms of "Chelmsley Wood", before Ontal drags us further into end-of-days techno territory via the layered percussion, distorted electronics and bludgeoning beats of "Mudflow".
