3D & Robert Owens - "Known Love" (7:51)
Olivier Giacomotto & Quivver - "Snailblazer" (6:40)
Dave Seaman & Hernan Cattaneo - "Napkin Knowledge" (7:28)
Argia & Jepe - "Salitre" (7:38)
Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Aline Umber - "Hypnotized" (feat Poggio) (5:09)
Juaan - "Talt" (5:51)
Ramez - "Devil Selectro" (5:39)
Plazeg - "German Physicist" (6:03)
Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Silverlining Dubs (x) (Silverlining mix)
Cat: SVD 010. Rel: 04 May 20
Arctor & Jay Hill - "Mercurial" (Silverlining remix) (9:30)
Ravi McArthur - "Here & Now" (Silverlining remix) (7:08)
Spook In The House - "Conspiracy" (6:14)
Review: Silverlining keeps up the pressure with his flawless series, hitting the tenth release in style with this batch of remixes he's sprinkled some metallic underground house magic over. First up is Arctor & Jay Hill's "Mercurial", which gets given a cavernous rub down, as brittle but mightily groovy percussion pirouettes around dubby inflections, whispered atmospherics and more besides. Ravi McArthur's "Here & Now" takes on a '90s tint as a killer phased lead hook and woozy pads bring the wiggle to Rizvi's limber deep house rhythm structure. "Conspiracy" by Spook In The House completes the set with a fractured ping into more experimental territory that sports a serious whiff of Stasis-esque psychedelia in its genetic make up.

Art Fact - "Rain In The South" (Francesco Farfa & Hamsa remix) (7:17)
Hamsa & Luca Piermattei - "Mystic Perc" (6:05)
Roberto Manolio - "Blue Yes" (6:40)
Review: Musek return for another V/A release, flaunting their artists' variegated hitmaking capacities. Fronting the release is a wonderful rework of Stockholm trio Art Fact's 'Rain In The South' from 1989, to which Francesco Farfa and Hamsa bring extra electronic-bodyweight to an originally dripping synth tune. A mystical mood is continually proferred across 'Mystic Perc' through to 'Blue Yes' by Roberto Manolio, traversing chime tinglings, acid breaks and dreamy vocals: "pretty blue eyes... you're mesmerised... don't look to hard... you may never come back from that..."

Asphalt DJ - "Blades" (6:40)
RDS - "TH Only" (5:39)
Ste Roberts - "Tune Pitch Decay" (7:51)
Tammo Hesselink - "Untitled 42" (5:10)
Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

The Signal (Night mix) (6:30)
The Signal (Day mix) (6:48)
Review: Raton has grown to be a quite an integral part of Drumcode as well as the underground at large and now after previously working on the likes of Ellum Audio he finds himself in the studio with techno bigwig, Adam Beyer. The pair cook up two versions of the same cut here. 'The Signal' (Night mix) is a dramatic cut with an epic baseline and space-age synth craft over chunky drums that are constantly on the rise. 'The Signal' (Day mix) is a much more melodic and light cut but has just as much low-end heft. Both of these tunes give you an insight into how big name DJs like this see techno working in different settings.

Cat: MOSAIC LTDX2. Rel: 03 Dec 18
Bluetrain - "Armchair Analyst" (Special edition dub) (7:49)
Roger Gerressen - "Long Overdue" (7:12)
Review: Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic train keeps on rolling, this time via the LTDX series which reaches its second station stop with two more dubbed out dancefloor delights for the deepest divers. O'Sullivan dons his Bluetrain guise to deliver the UK steppers-indebted "Armchair Analyst," which artfully folds subtle dubwise influences into its minimal techno construction. On the flip side, Roger Gerressen spaces things out good and proper with the slow-stalking groove of "Long Overdue," fusing the best elements of contemporary minimal and classic dub to create a fine extension of the Rhythm & Sound blueprint.

Mike Clark & Marcus Harris - "Hey"
Santonio Echols - "Piano In The Light" (Emanuell Echols mix)
Brian Kage - "This Saturday Night"
Ryan Sadorus - "Down Below"
Review: Upstairs Asylum is kicking off the year in some style with a couple of killer new EPs. This one is the first in what is presumably a new series to showcase the talents of the Motor City. Mike Clark & Marcus Harris get things underway with 'Hey' which has a subtly uplifting feel thanks to the bright, sustained chords and cuddly drums. Santonio Echols's 'Piano In The Light' (DJ Emanuell Echols mix) is laidback, playful deep house with magical chord work and Brian Kage brings his classy depths to the smooth grooves of 'This Saturday Night.' Ryan Sadorus brings things to a close with the smoky 'Down Below.'

Ed Herbst - "High & Dry" (6:22)
Ed Herbst - "Between The Bars" (6:06)
Review: Dutch label Shiver makes its debut this week with a various artist EP featuring some current heroes of the minimal/tech house scene. On the first side of Cold Flower (Full Bloom) you've got Cris P with the hi-tech deepness of the title track, reminiscent of early United States Of Mars sounds, followed by Rosario's darkly stomping Stigma Flap remix and Ouhx's liquid drum 'n' bass journey 'Aomori' which is an introduction of things to come over on the flip. There you have Berlin's Ed Herbst, usually known for his deep house exploits, delivering the 90s influenced jazzy jungle roller 'High & Dry' followed by something more familiar of him in the form of late night mood music groove 'Between The Bars'.

In-Depth
Out Of Frame
Review: It's a double helping of Swiss techno bliss with a Belgian twist as Depth Frame sees Deetron and Ripperton get it on for the first time ever (weird huh?) for the Music Man imprint. For those immune to clues, "In Depth" is the sort of peak time ruff deep jack these two excel at, throwing a cacophony of vocals around the depths of a swampy backing as percussion in need of some WD40 brings the Detroit flavour. "Out of Frame'' is far rowdier, handclaps barely noticeable amidst the lysergic menace of the bass growl which is offset by the undulating patterns of glistening musical colour.

Modeselektion Vol 1 Part 3
Cat: MONKEYTOWN 07. Rel: 19 Nov 10
Marcel Dettmann - "Lyrate"
Robag Wruhme - "Bierholer"
Cosmin TRG - "Space Station Love Affair"
Review: Monkeytown drop the final edition of vinyl samplers for Modeselektion Volume One with three cuts of fractured electronics on clear blue vinyl. Berghain mainstay Marcel Dettmann douses the A Side with the liquid techno flex of "Lyrate", which intersperses burrowing bass tendencies with shuffling subaqueous keys over a largely minimalist throb. Robag Wruhme descends into Max Richter meets Squarepusher territory on the brilliantly disjointed "Bierholer" which wraps wistful violin melodies in a devilishly off kilter electronic rhythm. It's left to Cosmin TRG to inject some real energy into this release via the machine funk of "Space Station Love Affair" which shimmers with a musical brilliance similar to the Romanians recent exploits for Rush Hour.

Marc Romboy - "Asteroids" (10:06)
Rober Babicz - "Space Disco" (6:25)
Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry - "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD) (7:48)
Review: Earlier in the year, Bedrock chief John Digweed headed to Tokyo for a set at Contact - one of the best underground clubs in the world. The basement club has a low ceiling, minimal lighting and an incredible sound system. The set (which featured a whopping 64 tracks) captures the legend's set from start to finish: from the deep/moody opening tracks, to the peak time bangers and everything in between. The tenth edition in his 'Live In' series is released on a limited vinyl run, with a select number of tracks on wax. Disc Two here features the hyper-melodic drift of Systematic's Marc Romboy on "Asteroids", the veteran artist formerly known as Rob Acid (Robert Babicz) with some powerful futurist soul on "Space Disco" and Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry with some tripped-out tunnel vision on "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD).

Edit Select - "Above Ground" (5:56)
Jimmy Van M & Juan Hansen - "Madin" (Gala dub) (8:00)
Pascal FEOS - "Dual Structure" (7:01)
Review: On the 28th of April this year, legendary British DJ John Digweed performed at Tokyo clubbing institution Contact. The Bedrock head honcho's entire set has been captured on digital format, but those of you you lucky to snatch up these limited edition vinyl runs can have access to some of those exclusive tracks played as part of his amazing performance that special evening in Japan. The third and final disc features Brazilian veteran Renato Cohen, who makes a return to the scene with "Sauna" - this spacey nu-disco number is far cry from his legendary "Pontape" we can tell you that much. Scottish hypnotic techno expert Edit Select similarly makes a surprising addition with the typically ethereal "Above Ground" and finally something more typical of Digweed's programming courtesy of fellow progressive house legend Jimmy Van M (with Juan Hansen) on the euphoric epic "Madin" (Gala dub).

DJ Gonzo & Dr Yes - "Ring Center" (6:17)
Rough Thought - "Puneto" (6:44)
Review: No-nonsense German label EXT has gone back to basics here, delivering their first split-artist EP since 2016. DJ Gonzo and Dr Yes handle side A, unfurling a tactile but wonky techno jack-track ("Ring Center") full of jaunty, all action synth-bass, bleeping computer electronics, fluttering synth riffs and clanking drum machine beats that doff a cap to both Chicago jack and Motor City futurism. Rough Thought takes over on side B, charging through a bustling combination of rising and falling intergalactic synth lines, deep space chords, surging arpeggio bass and a drum track so sweaty that it could have been laid down by a drummer who has just downed four cans of the world's most repulsive energy drink.

Transparent Sound - "Conicts Of Interest" (5:44)
Finona Rider - "The Impact" (6:49)
Review: High-octane experimental trance via freetek via hardcore from Hamburg collective Phantasia, with an absolutely flooring, walloping debut release. The fact that four different artists might each bring their own mood to the table and yet hear their respective sounds unified bespeaks the brilliant mastering job held down here: Dolomea's 'Augural' and Rupert Marnie's 'Elastic Thoughts' commit to a mutual sonic trustfall, one seeming to writhe about in rhythmically unpredictable fashion through pressure-cooked, rubber-ballistic acids, and the other rootling its 4x4 kick snout into floors down under. The B-side goes electro, culminating on the brilliant brainwash by Finona Rider, 'The Impact', a track haunted by the voice in its own head.

Unaesthetic Gossips EP
Cat: SERIALISM 002. Rel: 15 Jan 08
Ekkohaus - "A Storm"
Marco Shuttle - "Manicure"
Queen Atom - "Mattos"
Rudolf - "Una Matina Especiale"
Review: Hot on the heels of the successful introductory EP on Serialism comes the second installment on the label: 'Unaesthetic Gossips EP' which once again offers some delightful grooves that will be appreciated both by the dance floor crowd and home listeners. Nicely starting off the EP is Berlin based Greek producer Ekkohaus - on his second tune for the label with a very Detroit-influenced track, massive elements of Groove and Funk, exploding half-way through and teasing the listener as the snare/clap comes in on the half beat. This tune will be largely enjoyed by both techno and house fanatics. Next one on the list is Italian Marco Shuttle, offering a slightly different approach with his deep, long & repetitive journey of soft synth chords and elegant elements that remind us of Cadenza releases, providing a perfect tune for the after-hours or stylish warm up. On the flip we find ourselves with a huge tune from Queen Atom, perfect for the peak time hours in those big packed club rooms: a combination of Detroit-esque Funk, with trippy back melodies and percussive 909 toms waving through the atmosphere, resulting in a dark yet groovy slow-tempo techno piece. Strikingly finishing off the EP is Argentinean artist Rudolf, already known for his previous releases on STHLM, who delivers an enormous experimental track with intensely layered vocal melodies: Eerie, ghostly and combined with many industrial aspects, the result is an immense bubbly, watery track that will indisputably drive clubbers insane throughout the globe.

Review: Last year's superb Pura Lempuyang album has been pulled apart and served up on a couple of separate 12"s and this is the second one. It comes on limited turquoise vinyl and offers four cuts of stylish deep dub and techno. Fletcher's 'It's A Virtue' goes first with taught, twanging bass and grubby basslines then Mike Schommer's 'Kingmaker' offers liquid dub funk with watery pads and hissing static. Nicolas Barnes picks it up a little with a darker but still warm dub techno roller in 'Sonic Dial' and Redrop's 'Genesis' is the more driving of the lot but again exists right on the ocean floor.

Tell You No Lie (8:31)
Review: A taster for Robert Hood's second Floorplan album, this EP puts a spotlight on the radical nature of his musical transformation. On "Music", the visceral rhythms of techno minimalism are gone; in their place is a rolling, tracky groove that boasts a repetitive vocal loop and which has shades of classic Relief /Derrick Carter. "Tell You No Lie" is even more impressive. It sees Hood use a gospel vocal over a stomping, funk guitar-sampling disco house workout. There is an audibly religious dimension to "Tell You No Lie," but Hood's knack for writing a great tune means that it sounds celebratory rather than self-indulgent or preachy.

How You Feel (For Me) (7:52)
Review: Feel-good minimal from Rico Friebe and Rico Puestel on faux-gold-foiled 12" vinyl, who lend their signature style a surprise French touch. Echoing timeless Thomas Bangalter, 'How You Feel (For Me)' is a detuned synth sweeping swathe of chord and offbeat hat, all centring on a hypnotic repetitious acknowledgement of how the listener feels. The B-side features said acapella, in all its standalone emotive glory. Sometimes it's hard to tell whether we're being told how to feel or whether we're being asked, but with a banger such as this one, we're not inclined to care about the difference!

Andre Arruda & Raf & Rod - "Sub Spirit's" (5:39)
Review: Capybara France returns with its second ever release, splitting a six-track sonic bay between acid house and techno lowriders Guile, Francisco Fresen, F&I, Marcos Coya, Andre Arruda and Raff&rod.
