Review: Basel-based experimental labels Amenthia Recordings and A Walking Contradiction join forces for their first collaborative release here in the form of the Flash Crash/Hack Crash EP. Both labels are known for pushing boundaries within their close-knit creative circles and this one features Agonis' heavy stepper and Konduku's whirlpool of low frequencies on the Amenthia side, while Lemont continues the low-end, tripped-out vibe. Varuna represents A Walking Contradiction and delivers swampy, slow-motion sounds in their signature style. This release embodies both labels' commitment to daring, unconventional electronic sounds.

A felt sense of continuation is heard on the strobing 'Masterpeace' by Chris Bekker, before 'Alhalma', where Drumcomplex and Frank Sonic lead us to a cruddy close.

Review: Hard techno is very much back in vogue right now, all across Europe and beyond. Sacred Court taps into that demand with various artists EP that is edgy, raw and effective. It is Dexphase that kicks off with 'Stay True To Yourself' layering up wooden hits, icy hi hats and slamming drums. KOZLOV's 'Darkness' has real dystopian menace to it with the wiry pads that bring unsettling energy to the distorted basslines and hammering drums. Raxeller's 'Corrupted' is hyperderiven with kicks stacked up almost on top of each other as moody trance pads light up the backdrop. Review: With releases already clocked up on Carl Craig's Planet-E, the Omar S-run stable FXHE and Rob Modell's Echospace, Detroit house/techno fans with a keen eye (and ear) will already know Brian Kage. Michigander is his own label and this EP - that kicks off with Taho and Kage joining forces again on its A-side - was a success when it first emerged on marbled vinyl in March 2023. So much so, in fact, that's it been given a repress. With traces of acid and uplifting piano notes undewrwritten by deep chords on the opener '909 Nights', 'Warehouse Vibes' then brings driving kicks and dubby techno bliss before the closer 'JAX' goes in the style with its fist pumping rhythms. Motor City musical magic at its best.

Review: Kaiserdisco bring some big room techno energy to the one label in the world that is most synonymous with that sound - Adam Beyer's Drumcode. Opener 'In The Music' is a dark and driving cut with an acid tinged bassline over hard, hammering, flat footed drums. Add in a dark vocal hook and you have a real monster. 'Error In The System' on the flip is another moody techno pumper for the main room with hefty drums, eerie siren sounds and of plenty squelchy designs. It's a real headwrecker to close out a big 12".

Review: Leipzig based Riotvan, run by Peter Invasion and Panthera Krause, welcomes Kalexis and Paulor for this collaborative four track that mines techno's deepest depths. 'Going Through The Void' is a moody and slow motion opener that rides on an undulating bassline with plenty of ambient pads for company. 'Energy' is more edgy, a stomper with fractured vocals and wonky synths that builds a darker mood. On the flipside there is the brilliantly unhinged and unusual melodies of 'Lashes' which sounds like a marching band on acid and 'Magnetic' closes down with haunting low ends and spooky pads.

Review: Kangding Ray is one of those techno craftsmen who really brings his groves alive with sublime sound designs and plenty of synth magic. And Spazio Disponible, the label run by Neel and Donato Dozzy, is one of the most cultured around, so this is a real match made in heaven. The EP opens up with 'Four Interwined Spirals' which is a colourful and psychedelic cut that will melt minds. 'Asymmetic Lifeform' is a more quiet and slow-motion exploration of dubby rhythm and aqueous synths, then 'Polar' picks up the pace once more with trippy synth and sci-fi arps over sleek drums. 'Solid State Rain' shuts down with another melancholic atmosphere.

Review: KANZ's artist alias, when reversed, becomes ZNAK, meaning "SIGN" in Bulgarian. He hails from Lyulin, a district known for breeding either crime or art, and thankfully Kaloyan embodies the latter. This outing on MELMAK is opened with '25% Personality (with Dickie)' which is deep and atmospheric dub techno. 'Low Orbit' is just as deep but more driving with some pad laced beauty up top, 'Trench Music' then brings frosty Berlin dub techno vibes, 'Dub Tool A' has conscious vocal mutterings and 'Splais' is a slow motion gem for late night contemplation. 'Kopriva (Opa Kanz Rerub)' is a spine-tingling closer with angelic vocals.

Review: Colossal-room techno from Terminal M's Kaspar, the German producer rising to mountainous heights almost as sublime as the music he makes. 'The Awakening' is an impressive exercise in held breaths, seatbelt-fastenings and tense contrasts, with the title track spending ample time on a highpassed kickdrum-to-trance lead buildup before dropping into a vibe-switching, Reese-fronted gulf of awe. 'Drum Control', meanwhile, fits in an unusual set of rhythms and percussive sounds to the otherwise adhered-to 'drum code', testing the listener and/or club-goer with syncopated, long-release snares and knocks.

Review: Terminal M and Kaspar reflect on the relationship of releasee and audience with the latter's latest EP 'You & Me'. An incendiary lead techno overture of outsized proportions, 'You & Me' rather quickly portrays the tumult of a psychodramatic relationship, rising and falling through biting hardstyle synths and gaping, kickless letups. B-sider 'Levitate' is equally as armrest-gripping, if not a little catchier in our view, its buildup synth exploiting the natural ebb of a filtrated saw, while fatherly whispers adjure us to "levitate" whilst war-of-the-worlds thunderclap synths emblazon the mix's background.

Review: The more nerdy out there will know that Keepsakes has featured on Perc Trax before having contributed to the Forever 2 various artists' release back in 2020, but now he makes his full debut with this fierce solo EP. 'Scene Analysis' is just that, a heavyweight takedown of dance music bullshit with no-frills drums and rattling percussion all topped off with a dark monologue. Label head Perc remixes and makes things even more caustic and ear-splitting, then 'Industry Anthem' does manic things with the word 'money' over taught, twanging synths and slamming drums. 'Pray For Hype' is the final potent offering, again with brash sounds and rusty textures, hard drums and no-nonsense de-humanised vocals.

Review: Inigo Kennedy returns to Token for its 126th release with The Calling, a three-track EP that exemplifies his unique production style, blending hypnotic and stomping club elements. Inigo has been making techno for a better part of 25 plus years now with over 50 plus releases to his name. Side-1 features 'Magnitude Seven,' a track marked by melodic dissonance and a stripped-down acid line supporting a saturated groove and noisy synths. Waves of unsettling intensity, driven by a powerful double kick sequence, make this an epic opener. The title track, 'The Calling,' on Side-2, elevates the intensity with a frantic four-to-the-floor rhythm and sustained notes that create a sense of pressure. Harmonic sections breathe life into this nail-biting record, showcasing Kennedy's ability to distance himself from the typical loop-based templates prevalent in techno. This track underscores the ongoing relevance of his long-standing career in club music. The EP concludes with 'Out of the Woods,' a fitting electronica closer that shifts focus to introspection. Drifting notes and shuffled percussion lines evoke Kennedy's UK roots, providing an ethereal epilogue to the preceding techno tracks. Review: London's Keplrr continues to make moves here with a debut on Midgar that comes after plenty of assured outings on the likes of Control Freak Recordings and Pressure Dome. His take on techno is about broken beats and forward-thinking sound designs and that is evident once more. 'Plumes' comes in two versions - one is a subtle, percussive and playful groove while the 'Meditation Mix' is more airy and atmospheric. Third and final cut 'Pulse' then builds on that breezier vibe with a smooth cruising deep trip for eyes closed-dancing. Classy and effective stuff throughout.

Review: It is over to Sapporo's Jun Kimata aka BirdMan for the Forbidden Colours imprint out of Bilbao (Spain), who've previously delivered great work by the likes of label boss Aitor Etxebarria aka EL_TXEF_A, Eduardo de la Calle and Andres Aguirre. The Shape Of My Voice EP starts off with the driving and tunneling deep electro workout "Two Billion Light-Years Of Silence" that's dripping in futurist aesthetic, while "Track 2" is a more dystopian affair on this dark ambient/drone piece. On the flip, we have got "Train Music" which effectively bridges the gap between hypnotic techno and deep house (the label's preferred aesthetic of late) and rather inventively indeed. The "Spicy Paracousia remix" by the aforementioned Aguirre takes the track on wonderfully spaced out deep house journey over its glorious seven minutes. Nice one!

Review: The short-lived moniker of Kingpin Cartel comprised techno titan Mark Broom and lost legend CJ Baker. Their output spanned a 5-year period starting in 2005, on which the release of 'Moogie Nights' laid down their methodology; funky abstinations from Broom's usual style of hard, gritty techno. The 'Ghetto' EP was their second and most famous release. Best known for its lead title track, a triumphant techno-funk piece and a prototype for the bright, swanky mode repopularised by the likes of KiNK in recent decades. Also came 'Fishfunk', a wacky cut dipping its on motifs from French house to g-funk, and 'Bottle', a raspy house number replete with bitcrushed chords and domestic, found-sound samples.

Review: Kompo is the man charged with taking care of the fifth EP from the Pachinko label and its a nice and colourful minimal and tech workout for sweaty floors. The opener 'My Mind Is Going' is a slapping bit of raw tech with twisted vocals and sheet metal synths, 'Case Of Sunday's' is a real head wrecker with acid pressure and crunchy drums then 'To The Four' is speedy industrial tech with tripped out lines and naughty bass. 'Eyes Closed' shuts down this most textured and in your faec EP of maximal minimal sounds with more coarse beats and sci-fi motifs.

Review: It's 10 up for TVIR and to mark the occasion they have a fantastic five-track outing from Komponente. 'Gash' is a fizzing, dense and slow-motion cut with a grinding low end and some serious bounce in the drums and bass. It's both fun and menacing all at once and has real anthem potential once the vocals come in. 'Flowers' has a brighter melodic touch but also lashings of spiky acid and 'Sanctuary' is then a deft tech house workout with suspensory and angelic vocals. 'Mind Revolt' is an unhinged mix of ghoulish laughter and bright sine waves, then 'Veronika' shuts down with a meditative broken beat.

Review: It's 2024, and we must say, there's no label name less apt to characterise the spirit of the age better than Trance Pandemic Ukraine. With featuring artists Komponente and Kurillo launching their own imprint here - in turn named after the 2023 release 'Trance Pandemic' on fellow Berlin label System Error - their new extended play 'Boston Dynamics' is a DARPA-dogged acid techno acme ("trance" is debatable), fervently embracing the real-world threat of military robotics in sating the all-too-real, present cybernetic human appetite for war. War has, in fact, always been a muse for much electro and techno; the riffling sound design on this one comes backed up by saltatorial leg-kicks and stomping robo-march claps all throughout, and the sinister phase-twists heard most notably on 'Not From New York' do not help let up the mood of downtrodden pugnacity either. Serious stuff!
