Review: Italian techno heavyweight Claudio PRC's fifth album, Self Surrender, is a meditative dive into self-acceptance that comes on Amsterdam's long-running and always top-notch Delsin Records. Claudio delivers a fluid narrative across an exploration of tasteful ambient, dub, minimal house and deep techno here, and it opens with some absorbing introspection before gradually shifting into more kinetic territory. It is driven by pulsing kicks, dreamy textures, acid flourishes and ghostly strings as a refined blend of techno and house sounds all coalesce with the signature depth Claudio has honed over years of his craft. Self Surrender closes on an ethereal note, which encapsulates its core message of letting go.

Review: Talk about taking absolutely no prisoners, Das El Salaam's DJ Travella has definitely learnt a lot from UK hardcore, hardstyle and gabber, and yet Mr Mixondo feels like it could take all of those frenetic and frantic genres to the cleaners if you were wanting to do an intensity comparison. Representing the nascent Tanzanian 'breakneck dance' scene, it's not for the weak of heart.
Starting producing four years ago - when he was just 15 - the man also known as Hamadi Hassani has certainly learnt his craft in that time, and the high nrg, often chaotic nature of what's here does infer an absence of quality or attention to detail. A full blown experience and journey through the heart of a contemporary Africa arguably pushing more electronic boundaries than any other continent right now.

Review: Before they became ambient titans with a penchant for doing gigs from their studio via ISDN line, the Future Sound of London had already established themselves as a well-regarded house and techno act - albeit one whose love of wavy chords, drifting vocal samples and hallucinatory acid lines put them at the psychedelic end of the rave spectrum. The album that established their reputation, Accelerator, is now 30 years old, which is as good an excuse as any for this reissue. Now stretched across two slabs of wax rather than one for a louder cut, the set still sparkles, thanks in part to the duo's ability to mix and match elements of turbn-of-the-90s ambient house, breakbeat hardcore, bleep techno, deep house and what would then have been called "jungle techno".

Review: There is a great selection of reissues of Future Sound of London's back catalogue going on right now. It goes all the way back to 1988 when they first started chaining the game with their forward facing electronics and mix of rave, breaks, hardcore and ambient into something utterly fresh. It still resonates today, hence these reissues, and this one is a 25th Anniversary edition of Accelerator. This one was, at the time, seen as the group's most "commercially-minded" album but that takes nothing way from its visionary sonics and immersive sonic landscapes.

Review: Following the breakaway success of her debut album The Internet, Glume returns to Italians Do It Better with her hotly anticipated follow-up, Main Character. As you would rightly expect from Johnny Jewel's label, seductive synth noir is the order of the day once more, but moving on from her first steps she's become a much broader sort of pop concern. There are some surprising collaborations with the likes of Rufus Wainwright, STRFKR and of Montreal, while Glume produced the album with Jewel and Sean Ono Lennon. It's an album which boldly reflects and develops the identity of a fascinating character on the alternative pop circuit.

Review: Green-House is the handiwork of Olive Ardizoni, who finds a sympathetic ear in Leaving Records for her delicate, pastoral strains of ambient reflection. Rather than being static, these are charmingly alive pieces that quiver with sensitivity and plaintive melodies that suggest some inspiration from the iconic Mort Garson record composed for houseplants. If you enjoyed that wobbly ride through sweet-natured synth refrains, you'll love this album too as it interweaves warm tones around bucolic field recordings. This comes highly recommended - a record that leaves you feeling nourished after listening.

Review: Ruins is the 10th LP from Portland artist Grouper, an incredible set that's found it's home on the inimitable and always on- point Kranky label...and yes, it's another fine outing from the voco-noise head. Tracks like "Clearing", however, show another side to Grouper's usual rough edge. There's an element of smoothness to those sombre keys and far-out vocals. It's basically an ambient album with an extra layer of soul in its core - check "Made Of Air" for a seriously trippy set of soundscapes.

Review: Back in 2011, Liz Harris - better known under her artistic alias Grouper - released a pair of albums under the "AIA" banner. The first, "Dream Loss", has already been reissued; here, they offer up the second, "Alien Observer". It partly explores similar sonic territory, where distant-sounding recordings of Harris' voice, synths and evocative guitars are smothered in reverb, field recordings and noise, but also includes a few sharper, more defined moments. Amongst these, we'd suggest checking the sublime title track, a beautifully becalmed and spaced-out fusion of Harris' vocals and delay-laden guitar arpeggio scales, and closer "Come Softly", an even more beautiful and minimalist piece that's nothing less than stunning.

Created in 1972 while working at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales, this early studio project captures a young innovator experimenting with an EMS VCS3 and a Farfisa organ. Tracks like 'Music Box Concerto' and 'Synthetic Jungle' weave eerie melodies into mechanical rhythms, while 'Rain Forest Rap Session' and 'Exasperated Frog' embrace playful abstraction. Jarre himself called it a "pirate record," assembled in his student room and smuggled from GRM's studios after hours. A raw, unfiltered glimpse into his early creative instincts, it foreshadows the expansive, cinematic style that would later define his career.

Opening with 'Littlemore Tractus,' based on John Henry Newman's reflections, the piece sets the tone of quiet, introspective change that permeates the entire work. His music, a dialogue between sound and silence, invites profound contemplation, with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under Tonu Kaljuste's direction offering nuanced, deeply attentive performances. Review: Black Truffle proudly present A Song for Two Mothers/Occam IX, the debut solo release from Laetitia Sonami, a pioneer in electronic music and live performance innovation. Born in France in 1957, Sonami studied with Eliane Radigue before moving to California in 1978 to immerse herself in the experimental scene at Mills College. Best known for her invention, the Lady's Glove, a revolutionary interface that allowed her to manipulate sound, lights, and video, Sonami has now transitioned to a new instrumentithe Spring Spyre. The Spring Spyre, a unique contraption of springs and reverb tanks, captures the unpredictable nature of Sonami's real-time performances. In A Song for Two Mothers (2023), Sonami spins a web of intricate synthetic textures, where delicate yet chaotic sounds emerge from silence, gradually evolving into metallic percussive flurries and harmonic clouds. On the flip side, Occam IX is a profound collaboration with her former mentor, Eliane Radigue. This piece, rooted in deep sonic exploration, envelops listeners in slowly unfolding waves of synthetic tones, echoing Radigue's iconic longform works.
