Benoit B - "100%" (4:12)
Candido - "Shaktiman" (4:07)
Review: The latest missive from Benoit B's Banlieue label is a tight double-header in which the boss man takes top billing. His A-side cut "100%" is a sleazy, mind-bending chugger where bleeping electronics, breathy vocal snippets, ghostly lead lines and "clonk"-style percussion hits rise above a sludgy bassline, new beat drums and a filthy bassline. Candido (not the disco-era percussionist, but rather a rising star of German electronic music) handles the B-side, offering up an even darker and sleazier number that joins the dots between EBM and new beat (think stabbing, mutilated vocal samples, machine-gun percussion fills and "Sensoria"-era Cabaret Voltaire bass).

Geroll (9:11)
Diphtongues (7:34)
Tenno (3:14)
Review: This steadfastly experimental three-tracker has its origins in a Hamburg instillation by F#X and Nika Son. That installation was created utilizing a battery of tape machines, broken synthesizers, cheap drum machines and their own manipulated vocals. The resultant tracks are dark, woozy, atmospheric, densely layered sonically, and devilishly hard to pin down. So while nine-minute A-side "Geroll" revolves around a manipulated, hip-hop style breakbeat, it's the ghostly electronics and curious effects that catch your ear. Flipside "Diptongues", seemingly created from densely layering up reversed vocal samples and creepy electronics, is even more impressive, even if it may inspire nightmares amongst the squeamish. Bizarre music concrete cut "Tenno" completes a fine package.

Autarkic - "Screaming (To Be With You)" (feat The White Screen)
JD Twitch - "Dalbouka"
Sneaker - "I Looked For You"
Die Orangen - "Rattling Ghosts"
Review: After teaming up to release the scintillating works of C Cat Trance in their original 80s form on Screaming Ghosts, Emotional Rescue and Malka Tuti join forces once again to deliver a ludicrously talented roster of remixers who catapult John Rees Lewis' cult group into thrilling new spatial and temporal zones. Autarkic decides to go for the full-tilt cover version on "Screaming (To Be With You)", with ample help from The White Screen, while JD Twitch roughs up "Dalbouka" into a quintessential slab of ethno-motorik body music. Sneaker's take on "I Looked For You" emphasizes the atmospheric tension in the original, giving the track a cinematic scope, and Die Orangen's "Rattling Ghosts" finishes the record on an appropriately ominous, subtly industrial tone.

Red Axes - "Shake The Mind"
Jamie Paton - "Take Me To The Beach"
Prins Thomas - "Sudaniyya"
Khidja - "Simple Helen" (feat Borusiade)
Review: Emotional Rescue and Malka Tuti serve up another round of top shelf remixes and revisions of John Rees Lewis' mid-late 80s project C Cat Trance, following in the wake of the Screaming Ghosts compilation. First up to bat are Red Axes, who bring a seductive line in loose and limber drumming to "Shake The Mind" that should suit the Fourth World dancefloor massive just fine. Jamie Paton brings a tough, clamouring intensity to "Take Me To The Beach," while Prins Thomas takes a truly spiritual approach when weaving the intricate arpeggios and percussion of "Sudaniyya." Khidja and Borusiade team up on "Simple Helen," presenting a dense and hazy trip into exotic territory with sinister undertones.

Shadow Of Funk (12:31)

Billion Dollar (5:41)
Review: When Cabaret Voltaire returned to the release schedule in 2020 as the one-man Richard H Kirk show, fans were relieved to find that mind-bending meld of 1970s Kosmische, techno, dub, house and space-age experimental electro was as pure as it ever has been - the results being a typically fresh and forward-thinking record the man in question summed up as "no nostalgia... normal rules do not apply. Something for the 21st Century. No old material."

Less than six months later and the big CV has more next level business to offer us, coming in the form of Shadow of Funk, a new EP that offers something of a counterpoint or extension to last year's full-length, Shadow of Fear. Based on 'Billion Dollar' alone - an acid-driven big, dark room banger that closes this EP -this release looks set to make an equally heavy impact, but as with anything this man touches, the joy is in discovery. So, let's leave it at that.

Review: Brighton-based Caldera is a talent behind the decks, but is perhaps even more remarkable in his studio expertise: his subtle productions weave a seemingly effortless sense of pace and texture, groove and abstraction, weight and space. For this colourful outing he channels - in turns - David Moufang, Thomas Fehlmann, Yanneck Salvo, and Sebastian Meissner, with deep techno, sumptuous house and beguiling ambience the bewitching end product.

Sulu Sekou (7" version)
Coney Storm Drain (extended version)
Review: Ahead of the drop of his debut album, Houndstooth are sneaking out this little 7" shaped taster to give expectant Call Super fans an idea of what they're in for come the big release date. "Sulu Sekou" is a finely woven electronica tale enriched with haunting instrumentation that piles romance and mystery into the endearing pops and fidgets of the homespun rhythm. It's a decidedly mellow excursion compared to the previous Call Super singles, lifting the lid on the exciting new avenues down which the artist is headed. "Coney Storm Drain" appears here in an extended version that finds a base layer of micro-static and winsome melody interfered with by scattered rasps of percussion, building in intensity without ever feeling too anchored to any one direction, like any good exercise in experimentalism.

Review: Aesthetik Records explores the subtle interaction of minimal structures and intrusive sound particles, playfully shape shifting between the warm funk of today's and yesterday's techno dancefloors and the hypnotic grip on the human mind. Minimal funk and sweet experimentalism at times gently layered with Detroit sounds or mild jacking grooves. A blend for mind and body. Operating from Gent, Belgium, the label is run by Franco Cangelli and DJ Akî, both genuine music addicts, with various musical backgrounds, joining forces in a continuous search for musical bliss. Aesthetik Record's very first release is by the hand of Belgian producer Franco Cangelli. Already having some slick releases on Sushitech and Toys For Boys, his third vinyl EP playfully shifts between old school minimalist straightforwardness and solid experimental techno. It will put dancefloors in a hypnotic frenzy and make people thump to orgasmic rhythms.

Review: RECCOMENDED
Full marks for appropriate titles, it's always very enticing to see an EP packed with six different artists when those artists make music that wants to be noticed and differentiated. Here Underground Pacific has delivered a package oozing attitude and personality, but fully committed to the cold-synth wave ethos. Dark, gnarling, filthy, groovy, psychedelic, industrial, and more infectious than most, we challenge anyone to drop anything from this and not feel sexy and twisted.

Definitely one for fans of Manfredas, Kiara Scuro, Optimo and the like, while everything here was conceived in the same sonic womb, it really showcases how much can be done with one sound. The brooding and building chug of 'Soulside Twins', which is halfway between 1AM club weapon and a Bond theme lost at the disco, Alf Champion's electro-fused stepper, the subtly intensifying vibe of 'Manipulation' - exceptional.

World Traveller (12:04)
World Traveller (Sitting Under A Tree Donato Dozzy remix) (11:54)
Review: From time to time, Italian drummer Tommaso Cappellato lets loose and heads down more electronic pathways and branches out into the abstract realm of music. He is joined by Astral Travel on this new single for Le Disque's Ambiwa imprint - a Northern Italian music store and distributor - and "World Traveller" is more of a lo-fi, acid jazz sort of song than anything techno or house-related. The real magic comes on the flipside, however, where master technician Donato Dozzy totally deconstruct the song with his cinematic reinterpretation that goes way beyond both the original or his usual flex of stripped-back four-to-the-floor. Although subtle and perhaps less tangible than other Dozzy productions, it is a fantastic piece of work nonetheless.

Review: A mighty fine collaboration is facilitated by Kill The DJ here as Tel Aviv duo Red Axes team up with Chloe 'C.A.R.' Raunet for the suitably titled Car Axes 12" - we hope this is the start of a beautiful and long-lasting musical relationship! The three original tracks here were seemingly laid down in various locations in Tel Aviv and London, but what unifies them is the ease with which Red Axes and Raunet evidently feel working together. Modern cold wave is hard to pull off but this trio achieve it with a degree of nonchalance that would impress the genre's early 80s pioneers! Il Est Vilaine and Horrors man Tom Furse contribute fine revisions of "Incognito" with the latter's Cosmic Dub particularly rewarding in it's widescreen panorama.

Review: Carbo Flex aka Graeme Evans drops his debut release on the UK's Central Processing Unit, and it's an absolute scorcher of an LP. This is a debut release, and he drops something of a mini-masterpiece reminiscent of Autechre's best and most singular moments. In fact, it isn't really his sound which resonates with the 90s IDM scene, but more the freedom of expression heard throughout these tracks. Synthed-out, electro-tinged monsters for lovers of good electronic music.

I Met The Devil (4:23)
Go Away (3:43)
Empoisonne (5:21)
Disintegration (5:46)
Review: Last year Cardinal & Nun successfully set their stall out via a decidedly lo-fi cassette of wayward techno, EBM, industrial and new wave fusions. Here the Marseilles-based outfit steps it up a notch via a debut 12" for Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. label. The four tracks are suitably loose, dark and otherworldly, with title track "I Met The Devil" - a pitch-black fusion of early Joy Division, throbbing new wave and late '70s Cabaret Voltaire - leading the way. "Go Away" sees them apply the same DIY fuzziness to EBM, while "Empoisonne" wraps discordant guitar solos and gravelly vocal snippets around another arpeggio-driven groove. They round things off via "Disintegration", a slower and druggier trip into thrusting, arpeggio-driven territory.

Review: EXPERIMENTAL/ELECTRONIC: Little was known about the still impossibly young Dro Carey when he made his debut for The Trilogy Tapes label back in 2010 with the Venus Knock EP, but the reclusive Australian producer has certainly left his stamp on the electronic music world subsequent to that release. Across numerous drops on Hum + Buzz, Templar and Ramp Recordings, Carey has developed a quite singular, often experimental take on electronic music that giddily sticks two fingers up at attempts of easy categorization. Returning to Will Bankhead's supremely curated label with Leary Blips, the six tracks present cast Carey in his most confident and complete frame of mind to date. Seemingly flitting between standing still and tunnelling ever downwards while attempting to create all new rhythms and tempos at ease, from the moment the cavernous bass drops in the opening title track Carey takes you on a ride through music you're likely to have not heard before.

Review: In case you didn't know, Caribou toured around Europe with a band just a few years ago, and you know what? He's been kind enough to record three of those gigs and press up on wax for ya! Featuring the likes of Four Tet and James Holden among his band members, the record contains segments from three shows: two in Ghent and one London at the illustrious Scala venue. The former is perhaps the maddest part, but you can only truly get to grips with its insanity once your hear that brass riding all over the high-speed live percussion. Sublime.

Review: The well regarded Whities label invites you deep into a darkened world of coldwave soundscapes on its next 12". There are Arabic overtones to Carl Gari's music here, both explicitly in the meditative vocals from Abdullah Miniawy, but also in the exotic synth drones that hang heavy in the air. It makes for a spiritual eight track affair that has a beautifully bleak and spiritual feeling: tracks are largely empty, absorbing affairs with only suggested rhythms moving you forward. Part organic and human, part mechanical and synthetic, Whities 023 is a bewitching and otherworldly listen of the highest order.

Review: Cosmic vibes, disco roots and a touch of robot melancholy, created during a time of isolation and strange moments apparently, so channels feelings of longing and creativity into something playful and deeply human. We're told that what began as an open-ended studio session became a journey fuelled by synthesisers, with Luis adding guitar and Marabou handling gear and recording. The tracks balance nostalgia and futurism across remixes from I-f, Gerd Janson and Dan Tyler of the Idjut Boys.

The Fog (3:02)
Review: Another burst of contemporary-sounding gems from John Carpenter film scores, and this is good news to both the collectors and the sample junkies. On this latest missile we have the famous brooding synths and trite '80s romance of "Assault On Precinct 13", still a much coveted album by the diggers and one that is often heard on the more expansive DJ sets; the B-side is made up of "The Fog", a 1980 piece of history that once again manages to contain a true 80's spirit without the predictability of many sings from that era. Wonderful and, of course, highly recommended.

Escape Form New York (3:34)
Review: Sacred Bones is not messing around when it comes to reissuing mythical songs from legendary soundtracks across the board, and their latest releases truly do get the old mouth-watering. This new picture disc contains 1979's "Halloween" on the A-side, and 1981's "Escape From New York", both timeless films that have left viewers awestruck thanks to, in part, their fantastic scores. You'll all recognise that Halloween chimes, those eerie chimes of coldwave synths, but perhaps Escape From New York is less immediately recognisable, but that's a shame because it is potentially the less aged of the two and still a track to break a set in half with something beautiful and unexpected.

This debut comes packed with a Felix K reinterpretation of "Underwater Device" which the Hidden Hawaii boss turns from minimal and stripped back to beefed up and deadly. "Warning Of The Lucky" begins as a percussive tribal loop which then evolves to become something sinister with a deep house warmth you expect from DJ Qu, while "Symbol" is an exercise in bell tone atmospherics and lucid beat design. Review: Wow! Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti return with the first tangible Carter Tutti material in some fifteen years and they demonstrate to be fully capable of manipulating monolithic sounds on these rather dashing looking Coolican 10". Last seen working with Factory Floor's Nik Void for Mute and reimaging the seminal Desertshore album by Nico, the UK industrial royalty signal their return to the universally known Carter Tutti project with two versions of one track seemingly inspired by the name of the metal lampshade used by Delia Derbyshire in her music-making. Both these versions are fine exercises in lurching, industrial body music and make for a welcome addition to their respected canon.

The song's fragile, slightly woozy nature comes to the fore on the flipside "Version" mix, which only emphasizes the weary beauty of Carter's lyrics and vocal performance. Review: Originally issued on excruciatingly limited edition CDR for the Wholly Other label, this is the official release of one of Charalambides main man Tom Carter's most engaging solo jaunts. Housed with the usual Digitalis care and attention in a thick card gatefold sleeve hand painted by Carter himself, everything about "Glyph" feels deluxe, apparently Carter has even remastered these recordings for this issue - what's more, there's a story behind it, these three extended tracks were the final recordings he made in the Bullbabe studios in Austin, Texas before he upped and left for Oakland, California. Having produced most of the Charalambides and related material in those studios there is a sense of an era coming to a close here, a sense of finality whether intended or unintended which gives the tracks a haunting and involving quality. Like John Fahey's final album "Red Cross", it might be the context in which you hear it that makes you read something else into the music - but here I think Carter means to conjure these feelings up, so let's run with that. The first track is performed entirely on acoustic guitar and showcases what I love best about Carter's work - the passion and drive in his fingers as he furiously plays. I could compare this quite easily to the aforementioned Fahey or even psych-folk rambler Ben Chasny aka Six Organs of Admittance (who joins Carter in the Badgerlore project) but Carter's sound is his own, and as we're dragged into the reverberating second track, played on lap steel, this fact becomes only more obvious. Another intriguing and highly enjoyable album from the Digitalis label.

Keeping things compact on a 7", this single easily stands up to any classic deep digs from the golden age of library music in the 70s and 80s. There are thrumming arps, slinky basslines, funky clavi and plenty more, all rendered in honey-coated tones that suggest serious care and vintage gear in the signal chain. The former has appeared on London's Lobster Theremin while the latter has remained within Exitab's catalogue for the time being. Three tracks from each artist, all of them exploring the furthest ranges of techno and electronica. Casi Cada Minuto's contributions can only be described as ambient stunners thanks to their watery textures and sparse soundscapes, while Imre Kiss' cuts are undeniably more club-friendly, but only just about! "Dis Slo" is arguably the winner of the lot, bringing forth a twitchy beat jam filled with airy sonics and just the right level of grit.

Review: Coldwave combo Casino Shanghai isn't the best known of new wave acts. The Mexican trio was founded in the early '80s and released their debut album, Film, in 1985. The two original tracks on this EP were both recorded around the same time, making them authentic snapshots of a bygone age. "L'Tombeau D'Edgar Poe" is particularly special, with stylish French female vocals riding a low-slung groove and creepy electronics. While "L'Action Minimal" is a little sweeter, touching on glistening synth-pop whilst retaining heavy bottom end pressure, it's no less potent. The package is completed by a remix of 'L'Tombeau D'Edgar Poe" by fellow '80s minimal wave combo In Aeternam Vale. Their rework is decidedly tougher, with dusty synth textures riding a thumping, techno-tempo groove.

This eponymous EP delivers on that early promise, offering synth-pop cuts that gleefully reference some of their favourite bands. "Tonopah", for example, features synths and guitar motifs that recall early New Order, while "Never Going To Die" has the sort of low-slung bass and evocative vocals that will be familiar to fans of The Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand. Intriguingly, flipside cut "Mutiny" sits somewhere between those two tracks, while "Abra" is a synth-driven blast of emotion-rich pop melancholy.

After an indie-pop leaning cassette a few years ago they now land on Enfant Terrible with a contemporary take on retro new wave and synth-pop. Three of the tunes are originals, one is a cover of French 1980s new wave band Message and there is a whole new album in the works, apparently. Great stuff.

Review: Certain Creatures in Oliver Chapoy who has appeared previously on Style Upon Styles and was involved in the BM/CC/WW project back in 2014 with Brendon Moeller and Clay Wilson. These five harsh and textural abrasions in greyscale techno are pretty serious; for fans of Shifted and Sigha; pay attention. On the A side it's all about the peak time fury of "Compulsion" which borrows from classic Regis in terms of brutal repetition in all its stripped, compressed and saturated glory like something of his classic Gymnastics LP. On the flip, the title track uses more restraint with its hypnotic and arpeggiated bell melody modulating out of control hysterically, executed as finely as Domenico Crisci has done of late; be warned! Closing track "HTMDML" is guttural electro beats served up as grungy and overdriven as you like and will appeal to Killekill fans.

Review: The fifth in the Styles Upon Styles label's conceptual Bangers & Ash series sees Brooklyn-based modular synth enthusiast Oliver Chapoy aka Certain Creatures provide two productions, with Stuart Argabright - best known as the man behind the seminal Ike Yard and Black Rain projects - providing vocals on the "Ash" side. "Sparkle" sees Argabright narrate a "spine-chilling journey through the New York underworld" soundtracked by Chapoy's modular synthesisers, while the "Banger" side sees "Bosch", which the label describes as something that "morphs from a sub-bass pulse into careening shards of light and guttural bursts of electrons, ricocheting off one another into a rampaging beast of massive proportions."

Review: When Austin Cesear and Public Information combine, the results are never less than special; back in 2012, it was the London-based label which first served notice of the San Francisco-based artist's talent for bleak yet beautiful sonics with the excellent debut LP Cruise Forever. Since then Cesear has brought his sepia-toned brand of house and ambient music to Anthony Naples' Proibito label, and collaborated on a cassette release with Stefan Jos for Opal Tapes earlier this year. The sight of a new Cesear release on Pub Info is most welcome then, with West Side apparently inspired by the artist's time spent amidst the industrial machinery and wildlife of Oakland, California. Spread across six tracks, the results veer through mood and tone, yet feel like one cohesive whole thanks to Cesear's ever refined touch.

Review: Cetu Javu's iconic track 'Por Que?' (which as you probably can work out translates as why?) returns on a lovely grey marbled vinyl 12" courtesy of Blanco Y Negro Spain. A timeless classic from the late 80s and early 90s synth-pop and electronic scene, this single captures the band's signature blend of infectious melodies and emotive Spanish vocals. It's a fiery sound that is packed with melancholic undertones and driving rhythms that mean it has remained a dancefloor favourite for fans of vintage electronic sounds. This special edition offers a pristine homage to the era that takes you back in an instant.

Review: Soanish mega-label Blanco Y Negro continues to reissue rather good, but frequently overlooked, gems from its vast archives. This one, from German-Spanish synth-pop band Cetu Javu, dates from 1992 and sees the combo combine their early Depeche Mode-esque vocals and synth sounds with nods to the more driving, peak-time ready sounds of European house music. That's best exemplified by the opening 'Remix' version of title track 'Dame Tu Mano', which also comes in the moody synth-pop style 'Extended Mix'. Over on the flip, we get the chiming melodies, mid-80s Pet Shop Boys grooves and Euro-dance bleeps of 'Una Mujer (remix)' and the Bobby Orlando-meets-Shep Pettibone fun of 'Tempo (remix)'.

Review: Cetu Javu's 'Dame Tu Mano' is something of a classic for lovers of early synth sounds and now it is back and reissued on grey marbled vinyl. Known for their blend of synthpop and Latin-inspired melodies, this track captures Cetu Javu's signature emotive style and irresistible sense of analogue rhythm. Originally a hit in the late 80s and early 90s, this fine single is a staple for fans of 80s beats and its great vocals also bring plenty of old-school vibes.

Review: More from the Paris-based Mercredi collective, whose distinctive take on electronic music - first showcased via a solo single from key member Quidam last year - draws on a wealth of disparate musical influences. For proof, check out the A-side, where Chahan's 'Jungle (Pile Ou Faune Mix)' - a quirky but rather good blend of deep house, 80s zouk beats and glassy-eyed synth-pop sounds - is followed by the soca-goes-street soul sweetness of Monsieur Mercredi's 'Ego'. Quidam takes over on the flip, first offering up the classic house flourishes, trance builds and bustling beats of the acid-splashed 'Double Trouble', before getting all exotic on the Mali-meets-early-Massive Attack headnodder 'Lebsa'.

Review: There is not much known of French outfit Chams, but here they inaugurate the Abime imprint with these four excursions in futurist beats, that explore the same territory as PAN's M.E.S.H., or works on Knives or Halcyon Veil. It is a deeply personal collection of songs that were born out of transcendental experiences he had during his teenage years. Growing up surrounded by the Alps and raised by an Alpinist father, he always felt like those high mountains looming over him were "sacred places where the beauty and fear of nature merge to shape a unique atmosphere of vulnerable plenitude." There are bits of grime, dubstep and hip-hop throughout on these interesting displays of genre hybridisation, that we found quite appealing indeed.

Painlessly In Love (Lakker remix)
Review: Do a modicum of research on Allison Chanic and you'll see she's referred to as 'the Queen of Heartache' which is eminently understandable on Painlessly In Love, the first release from Bedouin Records, a vinyl only label 'based in the desert'. It's a bold debut too, with Chanic's cultivated brand of classic instrumentation and electronics forming a chilling backdrop to her immediately striking vocal delivery. Heartbreak has never sounded so compelling! In addition to the two solo productions from Chanic, Bedouin have commissioned Irish duo Lakker to turn in a stunning eleven minute remix of the title track. With material from Dez Williams and Japanese artist Imugem Orihasam on the way, Bedouin looks to be one of the more interesting labels to have surfaced in recent times.

From the sitar lilting on "Meandering River" to the pattering chimes of 'PEsta Malam', this is an album brimming with real-world beauty even as it glides through synthetically sculpted spaces. Inoue's touch is patient and poised, but it's certainly no background environmental music. Powered by purposeful percussion and offering a spectrum of moods for your contemplation and delectation, Suburban Ethnology Vol 1 is a beautifully rendered EP once again affirming Inoue's spellbinding craft as a multifaceted artist.

Review: Charlie And The Oscillator return to Polytechnic Youth for a second outing here that comes in library tracing paper sleeves which nod to the BBC style of the 70s. The London pair once agin fuse breakbeats, synths and ambient with weird and wonderful samples to make for fascinating sounds that have drawn parallels with everyone from DJ Shadow to Death in Vegas. 'Big Unit' is all 70s sci-fi sounds and jumbled claps, detuned chords and hurried rhythms while 'Ruftop' is a more lo-fi affair with hymnal chords and clouds of dust swirling around the groove.

Review: Charlou is the solo alias of a French producer who here takes charge of the fourth fantastic outing from Flight Mode. Hr opens up in thumping fashion with 'Death Hypnosis' which has synths fired from a gun like laser rays and throwback acid bass. 'Sacrilege' is even more hard-assed with further retro sci-fi signifiers over hulking great kicks. 'Passive Power' brings more teeth-clenching retro-future techno sounds shot through with synth electricity and the EP highlight comes at the last with 'Crashed On The Space Road' setting off at high speed through the stars and never letting up.

Review: This Bristol based imprint is onto its third edition after smashing previous 12"s from homegirl Shanti Celeste and the mysterious Fred. Not much is known of next debutante Chekov either but if this EP is any indication: he's certainly on to great things. He could be a Bristolian, if the slowburning and bass heavy roller "Bierce" is any indication: it has a gritty industrial aesthetic to it too. "Rotlicht" (which translates into red light from German) is a dirty, late night house jam powered by dusty analogue elements and a lo-fi vibe. On the flip "Toothru" is the most mellow offering on the EP, where a woozy arpeggio is set adrift above a broken beat and some hypnotic pads letting this less is more approach really shine.
