  1. Dare To Be Different (Natan H Graveyard Shift rework) (6:18)

  3. Effortlessness (Benjamin Brunn Gold Plated Diamonds version) (5:19)
  4. Effortlessness (Benjamin Brunn Chrome Plated Diamonds version) (7:55)
Review: Since it was Area that started the Kimochi Sound revolution just under a decade ago, it seems fitting that the publicity-shy artist has delivered the label's first release of a new decade. There are no new Area tracks here though, but rather a quartet of fresh reworks of classic cuts. Natan H kicks off proceedings with a deep, hypnotic, trippy and undeniably wonky revision of "Dare To Be Different", before Leif weighs in with a deliciously melodious, soft-focus revision of picturesque track "The Face Yours Reminds Me Of". Benjamin Brunn takes over on Side B and delivers two contrasting versions on "Effortlessness": the deep, wayward electro-meets-dub house drowsiness of the "Gold Plated Diamonds" mix and the heady ambient techno brilliance of the "Chrome Plated Diamonds" mix.

  4. Sleepers Drone (7:49)
Review: Opening with a lumbering half-tempo bass anthem, Dreamlogicc returns for a third excursion on Kimochi Sound. Slow Goin resets the mood with a frustrated tape delay and hexagonal layers of chord. On the flip side, the artist employs Zui Quan style and a depraved schaffel on Bells In Their Hair... before closing out the record with the placid hypnosis of Sleepers Drone. Immense.

  6. To Presence (5:26)
Review: The latest drop on the consistently brilliant Kimochi comes from Eho Kates, a new project from Todd Gys and Brendon Moeller. While the names involved may be familiar, the resulting sound is something wholly fresh. Certainly, Moeller's rightly heralded instinct for dubwise processes is no great shock, but there's a playful sense of experimentation powering every element of this release from the scuffed, fractured rhythms of 'Anxiety Sensitivity' to the submerged echo chamber surrealism of 'Emotional Distress Endurance'. Inquisitive processes and otherworldly sound design shape out the whole record, shot through with the alluring mystery that defines Kimochi output overall.

Review: Today Kimochi Sound gets Baltic Sea sonar pinging techno deep, maybe something like bridging the gap between Sleeparchive and Mono Junk.
There are enough hypnotic spaces and hallucinatory frequencies in these loops to tide over the dark winter months, with enough funk packed into the riddims to inspire some heated early morning grooves.

Review: RECCOMMENDED
Trying to find any information on Mneme is pretty difficult. What we can say, though, is that this almost definitely not a company with a "vision to become a world leader in AI powered healthcare solutions, improving lives and transforming the future of our society." Thank god. Not that we don't wish the firm we stumbled across on Facebook all the best in its efforts to get there.

Instead, Mneme the electronic artist name (or act?) belongs in a far less competitive place. Somewhere where warm pads, vacuum packed beats, and melodic flourishes can thrive together, creating a soundscape that's packed with inviting ambient moods, and feels at once sci-fi futuristic and yet strangely retro in flavour. We've been here before, and yet it's also hugely original stuff that we can't not recommend.

Review: Sweltering, humid emotion permeates the gauzy atmosphere and rolling basslines on Neotnas' latest. The tracks here combine the artists' loves of junglism, 'ardcore, stoned ambience, and classic house.
Taken together, it's a batch of instantly nostalgic grooves and future / past chillout rave reimaginings.

Review: Conoley Ospovat, having crossed paths with deep heads like Pier Bucci, Pablo Bolivar, and Area, now turns up with a fully-realized EP for Kimochi. Solitude is a pulsing meditation, but with the rays of sunshine breaking throughout, it's clear that if it's alone, it's not lonely. The springtime sounds are full of optimism as well as introspection. Ambient house for the adventurous.

  1. Post-Typhoon Shakedown (7:14)

  3. Love The Lights (7:21)
  4. Paw Print (8:38)
Review: Conoley Ospovat is back on Kimochi Sound, who have honoured the occasion with a super limited, hand-numbered plum vinyl 12" in spray-painted sleeve. It looks delicious and sounds just as good: 'Post-Typhoon Shakedown' does somehow capture the energy after a storm - that sense of calm, with dew in the air and optimism everywhere. It's a brilliantly bubbly house cut that makes way for the more spaced out tech house minimalism of 'From the Cockpit', an expansive track that gets you into a nice calm head space. 'Love The Lights' keeps you there with an even more reduced deep house brew while the closer is a summery, leggy instrumental house cut packed with interest.

Review: Shielding's Innerlig is viscous, densely detailed, trippy music. Dripping with texture, these are supple tunes that generously expand to fill whatever space they're in, loops stretching towards the lilac virtual horizon. Constantly mutating rhythms, heavily atmospheric grooves. RIYL Harmonious Thelonious, Jan Jelinek, Theo Parrish.

  4. EQ Beats (7:11)
Review: Okand Konstnar has been quietly slipping out some excellent 12"s as Shielding since first popping up on Kimochi in 2018. After moonlighting on Wisdom Teeth last year, he's back on Kimochi once more with another elegant, eloquent trip through outer-limits lounge-techno hybrids for the head nodders and toe tappers. From the snaking drum machine patterns and hushed murmurations of 'Equance' to the fluttering chimes and pings of 'Solig', this is another illustrious, highly developed expression from an artist who constantly surprises and delights with every release. All lovers of organic, eco-system electronics take note!

  5. Altan (7:36)
Review: After making an impressive turn on Wisdom Teeth last year, Okand Konstnar returns to Kimochi Sound with a new grip of bubbling, left-of-centre techno grooves for those who like things supremely dubby and dipped in stardust. There are discernible grooves coursing throughout this latest Shielding record, but the beats play second fiddle to nimble melodic lines and atmospheric ripples. Even on 'Indoors', the more kinetic thrum of the beat feels closer to a tonal synth part than a beat. 'Vinter' meanwhile invites us into a beatless realm where the synthetic organisms in Shielding's biome have the run of the place. It's deep, immersive techno existing on the fringes, where the most interesting things tend to happen.

  6. Batiste Song (feat X343) (4:20)
Review: Shine Grooves is a multifaceted artist, and this second record for Kimochi Sound explores two sides of that personality. The delicate, introspective, expressive precision of After All, DPS v55, and Secret move from sublime resignation to summery exuberance to a kind of earnest meditation. On the other side, collaborations with X343 yield a more extroverted approach: spontaneous mutations turn rolling grooves into unpredictable improvisational explorations.

  1. The Underlying Granular Structure Of Spacetime (6:34)
  2. Thaw (6:59)
  3. First Flake (7:41)
  4. The Extract (6:25)
Review: Supremely prolific artist SNAD is back with another of his majestic new EPs. It manages to serve up a fresh new take on tech house grooves with precise sound synthesis that is deep and cinematic. 'The Underlying Granular Structure Of Spacetime' is a freeform cut with flapping kicks and hits, nebulous sci-fi pads and muffled vocals from another dimension. Then there is the crisp neon melody and lithe drums of 'Thaw,' 'First Flake' with its deeper drum work and icy cool hi hats and the fantastic closer 'The Extract.' This might be the tune of the EP with its flurry of delicate breakbeats and off-grid synths.

  6. Pankow (SW Electrofunk mix) (5:36)
  7. Steamed Up Window (Skookum Reminiscence) (4:06)
Review: Mystery production unit UD returns to Kimochi, one of the more overlooked imprints of the last few years, with four new cuts and a rather fine selection of remixers to boot! The mood is pensive and the sounds are atmospheric throughout, where tracks like "Lollipop Robot" or "Adapter" stand somewhere between ambient and electro-acoustic. The remixes give the tracks slightly more dancefloor weight, and both Area Green Grass and label regular Skookum contribute with a set of pretty killer reinterpretations a-la outsider house, but the silent killer is most certainly SW's remix of "Pankow". The SUED records co-owner fixes up a wonderfully bizarre concoction of sounds and shapes, moulding them into a dubby, sparse and cinematic twister. Another fine slice of Kimochi, beautiful artwork and all.
