Kalson - "Luminous Horizon" (5:38)
Review: Dagobert & Kalson deliver the third instalment of their serial Stellar Mode project, which sticks out like a rogue planet amid a sea of drab and unremarkable stylistic orbiters. This four-track cosmic fulguration consists of two tracks by each artist, and is notable for its ultra-glossy action-packed ambient breaks content; they've just done something wonderfully extra to the sound here, treating each element like exoplanetary objects of study and refinement. As Kraftwerkish sequences and ambient soundscapes collide with planetary ring systems of bass and plucksynth, what's not to love here?

Going Through The Void (5:54)
Energy (6:28)
Lashes (6:38)
Magnetic (7:36)
Review: Leipzig based Riotvan, run by Peter Invasion and Panthera Krause, welcomes Kalexis and Paulor for this collaborative four track that mines techno's deepest depths. 'Going Through The Void' is a moody and slow motion opener that rides on an undulating bassline with plenty of ambient pads for company. 'Energy' is more edgy, a stomper with fractured vocals and wonky synths that builds a darker mood. On the flipside there is the brilliantly unhinged and unusual melodies of 'Lashes' which sounds like a marching band on acid and 'Magnetic' closes down with haunting low ends and spooky pads.

Sexspurt (Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer remix) (12:12)
Techno Disco (KiNK remix) (8:16)
Come On Kerrier (Head High remix) (5:02)
Review: Having coaxed a new Kerrier District album out of Luke Vibert last year, Bristol's ever busy Hypercolour return to the project with a 12" sporting some truly high profile remixers. Ricardo Villalobos seems in the midst of a new wave of popularity right now, so it's a canny move for Hypercolour to enlist the Chilean for a trademark extended remix of "Sexspurt" alongside trusted companion and long-term collaborator Max Loderbauer. 12 minutes long, there is an equal emphasis on groove, micro detail and psychedelic expression demonstrated by the pair. Complementing this, the B side sports remixes from KiNK and Shed's Head High with the latter's take on "Come On Kerrier" quite sublime fun. What a way to toast your 50th release!

Waiting (Aubrey rework)
Forgiveness
Review: The No Agenda label takes its bow here with a new EP that features a first appearance from the US's Bridget Barkan. Kimono is behind the beats and they are couched in house. 'Waiting' opens with rattling chords that bring steely determination next to the time-keeping hi-hats and echoing vocal swirls that speak of a patient wait. The Aubrey rework is super fresh with daubs of dancing synth and sci-fi details over a barely-there rhythm. Shuffling deep house sound 'Forgiveness' closes out with more slight sound designs, dusty drums and plenty of suggestion rather than in-your-face maximalism.

Stretch (6:03)
Review: It's a while since we last heard from Knopha, a well-regarded rising star who impressed with his first two EPs on Push & Pull and Eating Music. Here he returns to action via a label debut on the freshly minted Chinese imprint Regret Sound. It's an attractively percussive, off-kilter and curiously psychedelic affair, with Knopha offering up two distinctively different tracks based around the same basic Afro-house style tribal rhythm track: the hallucinatory and feverish ambient house humidity of "Gym A", and the even more spaced-out, drum-heavy weird-out that is "Gym B". Bonus cut "Stretch", a drowsy, chiming and warming drift through echoing synth-ambient territory, is also superb. Recommended.

Review: Since delivering his debut album on PNN a decade ago, Matt Kent AKA Matt Karmil has proved adept at adapting the club-focused sound of his EPs to the long-playing format - as his inspired and wonderfully atmospheric sets for Idle Hands and Smalltown Supersound prove. He continues this notable run of form on this Studio Barnhus released set, crowding ultra-deep, dusty grooves in opaque chords, cut-up sample snippets, lo-fi crackle, hazy ambient textures and nods towards a myriad of ear-pleasing electronic styles and sounds. Highlights are plentiful, with our picks being the dubby, mind-altering late-night hypnotism of 'Still Something There' and the becalmed, meditative ambient deepness of superb closing cut '15 Mins' (which, confusingly, is just 13 minutes long).

Review: The second release from Advancedance is a bumper pack of eight tracks from various artists that will not be made available digitally. Kcl's 'Lights Retouched' opens with some deft synth magic over minimal deep beats and then comes a standout, 'That's Fresh' by Colin Dale, which is a tune that made a memorable debut at Fabric when Craig Richards played it twice back-to-back to a full crowd, letting it run through completely before starting it again. Loft 55's 'Porn School' is another heady bit of minimal tech for nocturnal mischief and Midiots's 'Optofuzz' brings crunchy tech grooves for late night introspection.

Review: At the tail end of 2016, Giegling released a fine EP of remixes of tracks from Kettenkarussell's 2014 debut album, Easy Listening. It seemed like a strange move at the time (even if the remixes were excellent), but thanks to the appearance of this sophomore album now makes perfect sense. As follow-ups go, Insecurity Guard is rather impressive. Deep, atmospheric and, at times, otherworldly, the album flits between crackling, ambient-influenced haziness, locked-in dancefloor wooziness, twinkling, string-laden techno, dubbed-out goodness (the hissing goodness of "Your Hands") and the kind of loose and languid fusions of electronic and acoustic instrumentation that defy easy categorization (see sublime closer "Brueder").

Review: Kiasmos is the duo of Icelandic composer olafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of their iconic debut album, it now gets reissued on a limited blue vinyl pressing of only 2000 copies. This album has been streamed over 100 million times on Spotify and is a cornerstone of experimental and ambient music that has inspired many artists around the world. Following the success of their recent album II, this anniversary release reminds us of the pair's beginnings when two friends were simply experimenting and creating music together in the studio. It has aged well and prices a great release from busy modern life into a world of supple rhythm and delicate, tender melody.

Review: Kraftwerk 2 was entirely written and performed by Hütter and Schneider in late 1971, released in January 1972,
with the sessions produced by the influential Konrad "Conny" Plank.

'Nobody wanted to play with us because we did all kinds of strange things; feedbacks and overtones and sounds
and rhythms. No drummer wanted to work with us because we had these electronic gadgets.' - Ralf Hütter

Perhaps the least characteristic album of their output, it features little obvious use of synthesizers, the instrumentation
being largely electric guitar, bass guitar, flute and violin. The electronics on display are generally in the realm of 1960s
tape-based music more usually produced in academia, with much use of tape echo (for example the massed looping
flute layers of 'Strom'), reverse & altered speed tape effects. Overall the sound has a rather muted, twilit, dusky feel,
similar in feel to 'Megaherz' on Kraftwerk's debut album.

Over several previous EPs and albums like Whatness he has proven himself adept at layering up dub techno, cooking up vital tech house and immersing us in rich ambient soundscapes and all of that comes together here across eight sublime tracks. The likes of 'Raw Paving Stones' are perfectly smooth and seductive dub techno cavernous in which to get lost while 'Task 8.1' ups the ante with static electricity racing over the face of the more techno-leaning drums and 'Autobahn In Fall' is lithe, funky almost. A timeless opus for lovers of dubbed out techno.

Review: Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi's Newwave project is a new interpretation of his musical roots. He was majorly influenced by SPK, Test Dept, D.A.F and various industrial and EBM acts. Then he formed an industrial music band with his brother in the late 80's called DRP. After 25 years, his new release is a unique mixture of his deep and emotional house sound with the aforementioned influences and now presenting the second volume once again on Mule Musiq. Takahashi is a stalwart of the label, having put out close a dozen LP and several EPs on the label over the years. From the broken beat and arpeggios of "Blue Neon" to the neon-lit '80s night deep house of "Newwave Project #11" there's an odd collection of grooves on here from a unique perspective.

Review: Deadmau5's Mau5trap label is home to his debut self-titled collaborative album with fellow EDM big cheese Kaskade under their Kx5 alias. The dup have worked together on music on and off since 2008 and have seen plenty of club success with tunes like 'I Remember', 'Move for Me' and 'Beneath with Me'. Fans of those will be fans of this which is another mix of big room electro house, maximal beats, superseded melodies and bright, brash textures even though the artists themselves have claimed it is in part a "throwback to that kind of minimalistic approach, to that melodic sing-songy house".
