Review: Like many Australian artists, Melbourne's Mildlife are keen to raise money for the Bushfire Relief Fund. To do that, they've decided to offer up this surprise Artwork re-edit of 2018 album track "Zwango Zop" and donate all sales revenue to the appeal. While the band's original version is a deep and groovy chunk of spaced-out disco, Artwork's version is a far more forthright, peak-time ready affair. He's beefed up the beats a little, pitched up the band's fine instrumentation and added some densely layered new synth sounds of his own. The result is an intergalactic disco workout straight from the top drawer that could well become one of the underground hits of the summer.

Review: Disco heads are considered Modern Talking's 1985 maxi-single 'You Can Win If You Want' a classic for many years. It's textbook Scandi synth-pop from the group that contained producer and songwriter Dieter Bohlen, vocalist Thomas Anders and various other guest members during the 80s. The group put out some 13 albums but this one was always the standout. The original comes as a Special Dance Version and Instrumental while 'One In A Million' is also included on the flip for extra dance floor fun. This superb reissue comes on luxurious gold vinyl making it even more special.

Review: Italian label Spittle have launched their new Dependance sub label to champion all things Italo, and they're following up on reissues of Zed's 'Plastic Love' and Trophy's 'Slow Flight' with this gem from fabled Italian DJ and producer Massimo Barsotti. Originally released in 1983 on Alexander Robotnick's Fuzz Dance label, we're absolutely treated to a peak Italo version of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', which takes the original and runs with it in the best possible way. As well as the original we get the killer 'W.L.L.' version excursion on the flip, which rocks out just as hard.

Review: The wonderful Mr K is back with more edit magic on his own Most Excellent label, this time adding his own spin to 'Wela Wela', a hard edge and raw funk cut from Black Blood, a band of musicians from central Africa but who were based in Belgium. This one was never a hit back in the day for some reason but is built on a killer groove that Mr K reworks and tweaks for more suitable dance floor deployment. It was formerly on his Grass Roots record but now makes its way to a handy 7". On the flip is 'Komi Ke Kenam (Fish & Funjee)' which has tough breaks and funk bass that will ensure 'floors get down and dirty.

Review: This hugely in demand modern soul masterpiece gets a special 40th anniversary reissue thanks to the Selector Series label. Originally released on New Jersey's Debbie Records in 1981, the label has dug into the archives to find a boogie-tactic reworking on a classic standard from The Carpenters. Often seen listed for over L400 on second hand markets, it is a serious collector's piece. It's been reissued as part of various albums over the years but never on a slick 45rpm like this. It comes with original artwork and will have any dance floors in a spin.

Review: Music producers do tend to be rare breeds, so it's not a surprise to hear of a label series exploring the theme. 'Uncommon Species II' is the second installment of the series from the Swiss label Phantom Island, bringing together various artists for five curios centring on oddball future disco, nu-disco, and re-edits. Highlights include the dream-pop-Balearic Kejeblos Remix of Moreeats' 'Forever Fun' - in which a rogue male vocal seductively implores us to light his fire - and CCO's 'Cyanea' - a standout acid disco number. Frankly, though, all the tracks here are unusual bangers, packed with extra additions that only a rare breed of artist could add.

Review: Twilight is the latest piece by long time DJ, producer and remixer, Dominic Dawson. The Japanese label Flower, has released this single to 7" complete with a remix for the second side. The title track is a catchy and funky house track that while the remix is a bit more Balearic and beachy. Both versions have their place in any house setlist and will set the tone for any eclectic DJ set. With the DJing background Dominic has, he is a great guide to setting the mood with music. Like the title artwork suggests, this is perfect music to watch the sun go down to.

Uplifting opener "Key Me Up" and sexy dancefloor explosion "Dumplings Over Flowers" which features a mad brass section take the A side while on the flip, they call upon Sould Out who gets properly lo-slung on the dirty late-night groove "Vamos Baby!" before the label heads come together to deliver the feel good, jazzy closer "Come Get It".

Review: At the time of writing, Britain is basking in what feels like its 79th consecutive day of baking hot sunshine. What could be better, then, than another dose of tropical disco reworks from Sartorial and Moodena's fast-rising Tropical Disco imprint? Certainly, we can see a few open-air parties going wild to the impeccable piano solos and George Benson style jazz guitars of Moodeena's gently housed-up opener "Strawberry Jam", while Sartorial's "Feel It" is an urgent, guitar-laden rework of a familiar disco-funk favourite that should get things going on recognition factor alone. On the flip, Sartorial and Simon Kennedy successfully play around with a Pleasure-esque, jazz-funk-meets-disco number ("Got You The Floor"), before Sartorial gets the filters out for a tops-off dance through jazzy disco territory ("Electric Lane").

Review: Sound Metaphors' collaboration with Constantino Paolini once again means the Italian classics vaults are thrown wide open as two more Italian dancefloor classics get revisited. This time Spray Orchestra's 'Transilvania' is a fine instrumental version of Patrizia Pellegrino's 'Il Mondo Da Una Nuovola'. After that comes a perfectly slowed-down acid remix of it by DJ Asshole. Review: Roll up here for some super catchy jazz-funk and textbook Italo-funk goodness from Mirko. This reissued version of the original and cult classic has been fully restored from the original source thanks to Erezioni. It's a glorious early electronic cut from south Italian-based singer and multi-instrumentalist Mario Rosini that dropped back in the 80s and has been the holy grail for many ever since. It has lovely analogue textures next to soothing vocal coos and withering synths that all brim and bubble with funk and soul.

Review: Machine originally dropped this mini-disco classic back in 1979 as the title cut to their album of that year, and now it's offered up again with a couple of remixes that rework the original. That original is the star of the show still here with the 1979 version still standing out. Next to that are a poising Timmy Regisford mix and acapella reprise as well as a Moplen remix and dub. This studio disco group was first formed by August Darnell who had previously been part of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band and then in the 1980s went on to be part of Kid Creole And The Coconuts.

Review: Dominican band Midnight Groovers was founded back in the early 1970s and went on to become known as one of the best around at what they did. They have a unique sense of sway and swing and cadence to their music and that is well exemplified by the A-side tune on this new 45 rpm. It makes for a double pronged attack on both body and soul. The flip side 'Ce bon comme ca' features an edit by Dominique Panolm, a singer-songwriter from Guadeloupe who keeps the energy but updates it with a more modern touch that is sure to ignite dan floors. Review: Six tracks by some of the less conspicuous names in 1980s Italo disco scene get pressed to a singular unifying 12" here. Commemorating Cruisin' Records' 40th anniversary (1983-2023), 'Takes Over' is a delightful compilation scouring the exclusive vaults of its back catalogue, with label mainstay Nello Jay handling curation duties. Largely centring on the year 1985, two cuts from, 'Japanese Girl' and 'Lady Fantasy', come courtesy of Max Him, while the likes of 'For Your Sweet Information' by PJ Marcus, 'In Your Eyes' by Roxana', and 'Heigh Ho' by Fabian Nesti all stomp, gyrate, and whoop away, indulging the very same escapist fantasies as those involved in the scene back then.

Review: Mr Flagio's 'Take A Chance' is, without doubt, one of the greatest Italo-disco records ever made. Finding copies used to be a bit of a mission, but in recent years we've been treated to numerous useful reissues. This 12" is actually a reissue of a 2015 reissue that pairs the Italian duo's 1983 vocal and instrumental versions - all bubbly, arpeggio-style synth lines, rushing chorus vocals, clipped guitar licks and rubbery bass guitar - with two 21st century rubs by Italoconnection. They deliver a'Re-Edit' in which the original groove comes smothered in tactile, glassy-eyed synth sounds of the sort we most associate with Pet Shop Boys' Chris Lowe and a tougher, darker, more hyonotic 'Rework' that subtly brings the track bang up to date.

Review: Bob Mc Gilpin released 'Superstar' in 1978 and it soon became a smash hit around the world, even making its way into the charts and mainstream radio. The original is offered up here in all its loose limbed glory with the starry melodies and fizzing synths all making for take off. Then comes a Marco Fratty extended version that draws out the good bits and brings a stylised vocal to the front and centre. The full vocal mix goes one step further and is a truly uplifting gem while the Smooth Paradise mix pairs things back to a deeper, dubbier vibe with mid-tempo drums teasing and pleasing in equal measure. This all-original track is leaded by the powerful soulful vocals, accompanied by a groove-infused piano which keeps the beats nicely anchored, followed by the ever dependable Reece Johnson who closes off this side. Her 1977 single 'Stick Together' rather sticks out in her discography of smooth modern soul, but that's not to say it isn't great. The second half to the original is what has been reworked in this edit and so we are treated to a lengthy exploration featuring keyboardist Sonny Burke (laying down some irresistible keys. Flip it over for his take on 'Body Language,' an album cut on the Jackson Five's last Motown album and here served up with an iconic bass line that just doesn't quit.

Review: A reissue of the 1977 classic by the NYC born gospel singer Melba Moore. Moore is the daughter of saxophonist Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis. She is responsible for such hits as "Read My Lips", "Keepin' My Lover Satisfied" and "Love's Comin' At Ya" among many others. This McFadden & Whitehead production first appeared on the A Portrait Of Melba LP and is one truly timeless, feelgood soul jam: it's perfect actually! On the flip we've got the more saucy and upbeat disco-funk infused "Make Me Believe In You" which appeared originally on 1979's Dancin' With Melba. Moore was inducted into the Official Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame on October 4, 2015, in Detroit.

Review: Anders Midtgaard is one of the leading proponents of the Balearic vibe in Denmark, alongside the likes of Kenneth Bager and Mike Salta. He inaugurates the Fantastic label with this beautiful summer groover, leading in with a plush remix from Italian maestro Luca Moplen. It's a feistier affair than Midtgaard's ever-so-slightly hazy original version, but both retain the core chord sequence that makes this such a heart-rending beauty of a track. The B side opens up with said original mix before Salta is then drafted in for a remix that leaves the disco locomotion behind for a breezier samba groove over which to play some delightfully warbling keys.

Review: You best get the sunnies on for this one because it is a sweltering bit of funk fuelled disco with lashing of cosmic energy, boogie baselines and irresistible grooves. First up is the epic ten minute plus 'Solar Flair' with its slapping bass and withering sci-fi chords, long legged drums and prog leads. After that sensuous slow burner things pick up with 'Heatwave', a more direct and textured cut but one still dripping with Rhodes magic and plenty of celestial charm. Two red hot tunes on a vital 12" from Hi Quality Inc.

Review: Mr Bongo's brilliant Brazil 45 series is never more relevant than in the warmer summer months. The latest transmission from the South American country's golden period is again well mastered and cut nice and loud so that the super addictive vocal o the a-side really lodges deep in your brain. It also has a nice boogie bassline and plenty of funk in the drums. Flip it over for a more driving and hard hitting bit of samba rock with MPB grooves and a call and response male/female vocal that says over the high speed grooves.

Review: Daje Funk Records invites us to their funky dance floor once again with a fourth volume of the Slam Dunk series. It's a various artist affair with the sort of sun kissed sounds we all want to hear as the days get longer and the rays beat down. Souldynamic opens up with 'Tales From QJ' with its florid strings and soul-train beats. Musta's 'Soup' has a fatter low end and wobbles along with dub swagger then Les Inferno build the heat with 'Hot Burn', a tropical and percussive shuffler before the purposeful funk of Groovemasta's closer bring loose limbed percussion and epic riffs to a disco house groove.

Review: Having set out their stall via a fine first collaborative release on Bordello a Parigi a couple of months back, Mytron and Ofofo pitch up on Multi-Culti. As you'd expect from a label with such a strong track record of multi-cultural musical fusion, much of the EP defies easy categorization. Sure, you'll find a chunk of Italo-influenced electro ("Non-Binary Joys on the Venus Holodeck") and a couple of slabs of madcap disco-funk fusion ("Si Jambo" and "2Tac Onana"), but also a heavyweight slab of low-slung punk-funk/post disco ("Czary Mary"). Oh, and the skewed electro-funk-meets-intergalactic synth pop insanity of "Something for Your Mind", which also boasts some notably brain-melting vocoder action. More, please!

Review: Dominik Marz and Radial Gaze are known groove driven sounds embellished with smart percussion, and that is just what they serve up here for Urge To Dance. Their collaborative 'Shintu' EP opens with 'Shintu', a party starter thanks to its ever more wild synth leads and chunky drum loops. 'Arkao' is another mix of bright synth theatrics with tightly sequenced arpeggios, subtle acid lines and elastic drums. Things get more freaky and acid-centric on the wonky 'Running Out' and 'Devotion' shuts down with another body-popping rhythm led by insistent stabs that never quit.

Review: Marseille's Mofak lays down yet another two modern boogie cuts for the fans. The titular 'Rock Your Money', featuring the vocal talents of Said (IAM) and Elois Scroggins, makes ample use of appended vocoder and telephoning lead vox; all comes wrapped in an ultimately bouncy number, against which Scroggins' vocals are stark. On the B, we hear 'System 3.0', a logical continuation of the A-side's theme, albeit this time gladly accepting the femme vocal assurances of AprilSoul, while Mofak himself hops on the vocoder; both paint a picture of a systematic love, one which cannot survive without vice and indulgence.

Review: Bars on the French Riviera, beaches in Cannes, hot sunny weather, mesmerising deep-blue seas and lovely leafy palm trees all come to mind once you drouth need on this latest 12" slice heat from Favourite France. Magic Source do a great job of musical transportation here particularly with 'Genius of Love' which is a riff on the Tam Tam girls classic. The tropical island beats and funky bass riffs all douse you in good vibes while a lead flute takes your mind up, up and away into a cloudless sky. 'Riviera Drive' is slight more dance effort ready with its rump-wiggling trumpets, exotic synths and Balearic disco vibes.
