  2. Baby Girl (7:06)
  3. Sunday Palaver (6:12)
  4. Bottle Rocket (6:27)
Review: The latest release on admirable Detroit institution Rocksteady Disco comes from Eddie Logix, a producer who has been around the fringes of the Motor City scene for some time. There's much to admire on his label debut, from the tasty Latin horns and tropical house grooves of opener "Que Locos", to the skewed drums, dub disco bass and Steely Dan style guitar solos of superb closing cut "Bottle Rocket". Sandwiched in between you'll find two similarly tasty slabs: the delay-laden Latin jazz-house headiness of "Sunday Palaver" and the more electronic sounding deep house goodness of "Baby Girl".

  1. Public Park (6:32)
  2. Spirit Guides (5:20)
  3. Public Beach (5:04)
  4. Public Beach (Stripped version) (5:03)
Review: Detroit based Blair French aka Dial81 is a producer and DJ known for his work in the local groups Cosmic Handshakes, Nois Land and BLKSHRK and has released on labels diverse as Going Good and Claremont 56 - in addition to Amsterdam techno powerhouse Delsin. Since relocating to the Michigan capital Lansing (where he's apparently been collaborating with the city's favourite son: John Beltran) he's also involved in Detroit Electronic Quarterly Magazine. As far as the Public Park EP is concerned, it's all about Afro influenced soul and disco vibes as heard on the sunkissed and spiritual title track, or the deep and dreamy mood lighting of "Spirit Guides". On the flip, strap yourself in for the bass heavy gqom vive of "Public Beach" followed by a tougher Stripped Version.

Aguaxire (12")

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Aguaxire (8:53)
  2. Ive Brussell (JKriv rework) (6:53)
  3. Deep Cove View (JKriv edit) (6:27)
Review: Having appeared on Razor-N-Tape, Z Records and File Under Disco in recent years, NYC's Jkriv steps up to Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Rocksteady Disco with three precision-picked Latin-laced floor-heaters for three totally different shades of the night. Title track "Aguaxire" takes a Brazilian standard and whips it up in a vat of bubbling jazzy acid, "Ive Brussell" gives Jorge Ben a new suit and kick-ass chunky shoes while "Deep Cove View" takes the swooning soul of Tania Maria and loops it up with stuttering samplecraft. Genius.

  3. Ice Accountant (Table Daddy remix) (7:01)
  4. Ice Accountant (2:33)
  5. Cloud Nine (2:20)
Review: Brand new Detroit duo Man VS Indian Man comprises Ian Finkelstein and Even Haywood. Complementing each other's strengths, the pair make the perfect match as they pour out thick viscously barbed future soul in thick gooey doses; both "Ice Accountant" and "Cloud Nine" are wrapped in foggy layers of sleepy textures as the falsetto vocals and lean instrumentation cut through with dreamy delight. Remixes from the legendary Egyptian Lover (cosmic electro), fellow Detroitian Pontchartain (filtered disco house) and Brazilian Table Daddy (lolloping dream tech).

Afterlife (7")

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Pontchartrain - "Afterlife" (4:39)
  2. Blair French - "Pool" (6:00)
Review: It was Memorial Day Weekend 2016, and the sun shined bright over the Detroit River. Pontchartrain stepped up to the decks at the Red Bull stage at Movement Electronic Music Festival donning his infamous "Detroit vs. Itself" t-shirt. His first song through the Rane rotary mixer was a dubplate made specifically for his set: "Afterlife". It's a brilliantly executed balearic daytime disco rework that warrants the praise of summer anthem that it's earning. On the flip is "Pool", an equally sunny slomo beatdown rework from Blair French. It's a delightful blend of cerebral and soulful, and is finally getting a release after being originally championed by Peter Croce on his Le Mellotron Paris set back in early 2018.
