Review: Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs have more than proven their music knowledge across a stellar run of prior compilations, including The Daisy Age, Fell From The Sun and English Weather. This time around, they're tapping into the freeform climes of the late 70s and early 80s, as punk exploded and a myriad of bands channelled the unique, downcast mood of Britain into wildly creative, nervously urgent songs. Across four sides we take in all manner of cult selections and outer limits largely in the loose fit realm of post-punk. It's flawlessly selected and programmed - another reminder of how immersive a proper compilation can be.

Review: Greatest Hits Live by Steely Dan is a compilation of performances from their 1974 'All American Tour' and their 1993 reunion tour. Curated by Get Yer Vinyl Out, the album brings plenty of fine live renditions of their biggest hits, all meticulously restored and professionally remastered. Housed in a deluxe gatefold, the release includes extensive liner notes and rare artist photos, while the tracks are sourced from live FM radio broadcasts at the University of California, Irvine (March 10, 1974), The Record Plant in Sausalito (March 20, 1974) and Riverport Amphitheater in Maryland Heights (September 1, 1993).

Review: Alessandro Asso Stefana's debut self-titled album showcases his diverse musical range as he effortlessly incorporates instruments and styles from rootsy folk and primitive blues to psychedelia, soundtracks, and ambient explorations. Drawing from the Smithsonian Folkways archives, he integrates Roscoe Holcomb's historic voice for a great blend of past and present. Each track unfolds like a little musical vignette that merges various instruments from different eras-such as the Marxophone, pedal steel guitars, and psychedelic organs. The second half of the album features Holcomb's voice, bridging folk traditions with modern improvisation and in all the record suspends you between earth and sky.

Review: Stella Chronopoulou began writing her fifth album in 2019 during a ferry ride to Anafi. Seeking solace after personal turmoil, she composed a melody that evolved into a rootsy, atmospheric track. While much of her career was in English, this album marks her first songs in Greek, including 'Omorfo Mou' which was written on the boat, and a cover of Greek New Wave's 'Ta Vimata.' The album was recorded with collaborators like Rafael Cohen and is a 27-minute meditation on love, desire and time with gentle rhythms and warm instrumentation. It represents ?tella's sound by capturing both nostalgia and confident self-assurance.

Review: Stereolab continue to trawl through their vast back catalogue on the fourth instalment of the Switched On compilation series. This edition, titled Electronically Processed, focuses primarily on rare and hard-to-find tracks (many tucked away on very limited seven-inch singles), with a handful of alternative versions, outtakes and previously unreleased cuts thrown in. Fans will find much to savour across the two-disc set, from Krautrock-tinged Chanson songs (see the rather fine 'Household Names' and Serge Gainsbourg-with-added-funk vibes of 'The Super It'), to more experimental instrumentals from soundtracks, and even the odd dancefloor-ready stomper ('Dimension M2'). In a word: essential.

Review: Widely regarded as one of Stereolab's best albums, the deadpan title of their second album conveys, to an extent, what to expect. The track 'Pack Yr Romantic Mind' lives and dies on Tim Gane's noise rock bursts, which provide stunning contrast to Laetitia Sadier dream pop vocals. Gane and Sadier, as a songwriting duo, come from very different styles and ideas but it's the confluence of these that is the beating heart of Stereolab and why they're still revered more than 30 years on from when they released it. Another scorcher here to look out for is 'Jenny Ondioline', where static noise and thick, foggy post-rock ambiance gives way to a motorik beat that's Neu! and Can-level transcendental, as it whisks you into another realm, before coming back to a very present, belligerently shreddy distorted guitar outro. This is a band that pandered to no one's expectations but their own and let raw emotion guide them.

Also included along the way are some unreleased tunes and despite this being the fifth volume it is still impeccably high in standard. Just check out Autechre's remix of 'Refractions in the Plastic Pulse' for evidence - it's as thrilling as they come while Stereolab's second collaboration with Nurse With Wound is another good one. Review: Along with Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals, but far bigger selling, 'Dakota' hitmakers Stereophonics epitomise the past 30-plus years of Welsh rock. In many ways the boys from the Valleys have kept the fundamentals that people enjoy about their sound the same over the years with this new album. Kelly Jones' gravelly voice, which sits at the forefront, is as strong as it's ever been. But in terms of changes, Jones has never been shy about his love of Americana music and appears to be leaning more and more into that passion as the years go by. Single 'There's Always Gonna Be Something' has a bit of gospel flair and has an unforgettable melody that would earn appreciation from the most discerning songwriters in Nashville. Stereophonics appear to never tire of chasing that perfect song and it appears still have plenty left in the tank.

Review: Sufjan Stevens' sprawling holiday collection, now available in a stunning six-vinyl package, proudly shows the artist's whimsical genius and profound creativity. Picking up from his earlier, ambitious anthology, this collection reimagines classic Christmas songs with playful audacity and emotional depth. Stevens transforms 'Let It Snow!' into a haunting duet that evokes ghostly reflections, while 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' is delivered with a haunting detachment, as if drifting through a dream. Tracks like 'Jingle Bells' and 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' take on a psychedelic twist and 'Do You Hear What I Hear?' evolves into an exhilarating nine-minute drum & bass epic. Amid these reworkings, Stevens also honours timeless hymns with earnest renditions that retain their original charm. The entire collection reflects a joyous spirit that balances the season's commercialism with a genuine sense of hope and connection. From the spirited garage rock of 'Mr Frosty Man' to the ethereal beauty of 'Christmas in the Room', Stevens' originals shine brightly. The grand finale, 'Christmas Unicorn', begins as a playful folk tune before erupting into a euphoric chorus, weaving in echoes of Joy Division. This remarkable anthology is a delightful journey through festive sounds that invites listeners to embrace the joy of the season with open hearts.

Review: Sufjan Stevens is nothing short of an enigma. Capable of shapeshifting in almost unfathomable ways, he's the sort of artist that can release a spellbinding and technically astounding collection of piano duets, written to score a ballet, but give tracks names like 'And I Shall Come To You Like A Stormtrooper In Drag Serving Imperial Realness'. High brow while totally accessible, his back catalogue to date is one for which you'd struggle to find anyone who doesn't appreciate, once they've taken the time to listen. Here we are then, mere months after the aforementioned song and its parent album landed, getting to grips with another very different beast. Javelin certainly shares in the beauty that ran through its predecessor - Reflections - but whereas the last LP was relatively minimalist, here things are often the opposite. Big, rousing, 1960s-70s style pop numbers, soulful journeyman acoustic with backing chorus, theatrical soft rock and plenty more besides.

Review: .It has been 12 years since Still Corners debuted via the ever-strong Sub Pop label, presenting themselves as an archetypal dream pop band at a time when the sound was experiencing something of a resurgence. More than a decade later, so much has changed about the world and its genres du jour, and while this lot have developed their style evolution might be going a little far. Still, if it ain't broke and all that. Ultimately, as Strange Pleasures proves, theirs wasn't even fractured. Indeed, this is gorgeous, fluffy, inviting stuff that seduces without being overtly sexy, and invites us to jump on white fluffy clouds for the duration. Of course, there are more commanding elements, occasional edgier synth pop interludes interspersed throughout, but for the most part this is wonderfully opiate stuff.

Review: Kelley Stoltz's upcoming album, La Fleur, is a creative standout in folk music. Despite juggling outside projects, crossing the threshold of 50, and embracing fatherhood, Stoltz has dedicated the past two years to crafting his 18th album, set to be released in June by Agitated in Europe/UK and Dandy Boy Records in the USA. La Fleur sees Stoltz returning to his roots, once again playing nearly all the instruments on the album. However, his collaboration with pop guru Jason Falkner on two tracks adds a refreshing dynamic to the mix. The album is a fusion of 60s and 80s pop-rock influences, showcasing Stoltz's signature sound with a renewed focus on prominent vocals and polished production. Lyrically, Stoltz delves into pandemic-era blues, politics and the joys of fatherhood, adding depth and resonance to his music. The lead single, 'Reni's Car,' captures the essence of jangle rock, inspired by Stoltz's real-life experience riding around Manchester in the Stone Roses drummer's car. Other standout tracks like 'About Time' and 'Human Events' demonstrate Stoltz's versatility, blending various musical elements seamlessly. Throughout his career, Stoltz has proven himself as a versatile musician and producer, collaborating with renowned artists and earning accolades for his live performances. Yet, despite his contributions to the music industry, he remains somewhat under the radar, deserving of wider recognition. With La Fleur, Kelley Stoltz reaffirms his standing in the music scene with his immense talent.

Review: The Stones Roses endure as a popular indie band decades after they were really relevant. Some of their biggest moments were all touched up by a selection of remixes who were at least loosely associated with early acid house, baggy and the indie dance cross over of the same period. 808 State go first and flip 'Made of Stone' into an electric big of indie-techno. Grooverider flips the most iconic of them all, 'Fools Gold', into a low riding breakbeat roller while Paul Oakenfold & Steve Osborne's Verizon of 'Waterfall' leaves al the glorious tumbling guitar melodies intact and beefs up the beats.

Review: What is there left to say to say about The Stone Roses' eponymous debut album that hasn't already been said already. Most of the songs here have become anthems for not one but several generations, from the bouncy opening moments of 'I Wanna Be Adored' to the elongated jam that brings 'I Am The Resurrection' (and the LP) to a close. For what is the iconic album for the indie-dance movement, it's surprisingly devoid if electronics, but the lethal combination of Reni's drums and Mani's bass playing create an irresistible foundation of grooviness, even in the more laid back moments like 'Shoot You Down' and 'Bye Bye Badman'. Steeped in the hazy 60's psychedelic pop of The Byrds and the 70's funk of Sly & The Family Stone, yet executed with a northern grit and football terrace singalong sensibility, this is the album that closed the 1980's and then went on to rule the landscape of indie rock for the next 30 years.

Following the success of their debut, Core, Purple rocketed to number one on the Billboard 200 and achieved multi-platinum status worldwide. The album's standout single, 'Interstate Love Song,' became a defining anthem of the era, showcasing Stone Temple Pilots' evolution from grunge newcomers to rock superstars. This reissue offers a fresh appreciation of the album's potent blend of raw energy and introspective lyrics, with Scott Weiland's exploration of themes like addiction, love, and self-discovery adding depth and authenticity. Purple is more than just a grunge album; it's a show of the band's artistic growth and enduring impact and this reissue provides fans with a chance to revisit or discover the powerful and emotionally resonant music that solidifiedtheir place in rock history.

Review: Stone Temple Pilots' No. 4 marked a return to the harder-edged sound of their earlier albums Core and Purple, while moving away from the power-pop experimentation of Tiny Music. Opening with the stomping 'Down', the album delivers a relentless mix of rockers like 'No Way Out', 'Church on Tuesday', and 'MC5', balanced by moodier tracks like 'Sour Girl' and 'Atlanta.' The latter, with Scott Weiland's haunting, Morrison-esque vocal performance, stands out as one of his most affecting moments. Weiland's struggles with addiction add a dark depth to the album's lyrics, particularly on tracks like 'No Way Out', reflecting his personal battles. Despite the band's difficultiesimost notably Weiland's jail stint for a probation violationiNo. 4 showcases the intense synergy between Weiland and the DeLeo brothers, producing some of their most versatile work. Though often unfairly dismissed as a post-grunge act, STP created a sound uniquely their own, with the crushing chords of Dean and Robert DeLeo, Eric Kretz's drumming, and Weiland's powerful vocals. No. 4 is a testament to the band's resilience, standing as their last truly seminal release before Weiland's eventual decline. Highly recommended for fans of 90s alternative rock.

Featuring creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Primus and Ween, the album includes the most memorable songs from the show, a special highlight among which is the guest appearance by Rush's Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, who perform 'Closer To The Heart' with Primus and Matt Stone. The set is pressed on black vinyl, capturing a landmark celebration of the show's legacy.

Review: Keep Me Safe Keep Me Sane offers up a scholastic batch of rarities from Iggy Pop fronted proto-punk timebomb The Stooges, all captured in and around 1972 when the band had reformed from their first break up and were in the process of crafting their cult classic Raw Power. Boasting an array of studio outtakes, tour rehearsal cuts and unhinged live performances, this collection gets you as close to the madness as a fly on the wall of a dingy tour van or sweaty rehearsal studio, yet prevents from being caught in the chaotic drug-fuelled egotistical malaise that would eventually torpedo the group.

Review: The Stooges' self-titled debut album, released in 1969 and produced by John Cale, is a raw, intense precursor to punk rock. Tracks like '1969' and 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' are renowned for their gritty, rebellious energy, embodying the stripped-down, visceral essence that would later define punk. While much of the album is driven by simple chord progressions and relentless intensity, longer tracks like the experimental 'We Will Fall' showcase the band's willingness to push boundaries, blending psychedelic rock with elements of drone and even Indian music. Despite being labeled as punk, the album leans toward psychedelic punk or heavy drone rock, with extended jams and impressive solos that keep things fresh just before they risk becoming monotonous. Ultimately, The Stooges stands as a powerful, pioneering album, praised for its raw conviction and groundbreaking sound, making it essential for fans of protopunk, garage rock, or anyone curious about the roots of punk music.

Review: Stornoway achieved plenty if great success during their first run including a pair of Top 20 albums and plenty of hardcore fan adoration. In 2016 however they called it a day following their best album to date, 'Bonnie' and a large goodbye tour. Fans didn't stop listening though and their version of 'The Only Way Is Up' got them plenty more attention as it was steamed over two million times and heard on plenty of adverts. After time spent arhat the band reconnected over their love of music and began writing this new record in a makeshift studio on a remote coastal hilltop. It's their first in eight years and a big success according to fans.

Review: Strand of Oaks' upcoming album Miracle Focus signals a departure from Tim Showalter's usual folk-rock sound, embracing meditation and a diverse range of influences. Showalter's transformative journey is reflected in the album's eclectic mix, drawing inspiration from Ram Dass, yoga, Freddie Mercury, Alice Coltrane and the Beastie Boys. Produced by Kevin Ratterman, the album features backing vocals from Lacey Guthrie and features Showalter's newfound love for synthesisers and painting. The lead single 'More You' abandons guitars for swirling ambient synths, signaling a bold evolution in Showalter's sonic palette. 'Miracle Focus' promises to be a love letter to bliss and a celebration of life's complexities, offering listeners a temple of peace and a soundtrack for dancing through existence together.

La Folie
Review: The Stranglers La Folie was a pivotal album that showed their unique blend of punk and pop. The Stranglers have navigated their evolution through various lineup changes, most notably losing original vocalist Hugh Cornwell. While the initial wave of punk was marked by raw enthusiasm and amateur musicianship, the Stranglers stood apart as seasoned artists. Their foundational members brought professional skills to the table, with Jean-Jacques Burnel's classical guitar background and Jet Black's jazz drumming contrasting the typical punk aesthetic. With La Folie, the band pivoted into new territory, balancing their characteristic roughness with refined pop sensibilities. Each of the tracks is among their finest, featuring a range of themes centered around love. Highlights include the catchy 'Pin-Up' and the melancholic 'Golden Brown'. The title track encapsulates the album's essence, blending wit and introspection in a way that remains unparalleled in their discography. La Folie is a shinning example to the Stranglers' originality complete with the spirit of punk in an unexpected and compelling form.

Review: Portland, Oregon electro-indie beauties Strfkr return with their first album in almost half a decade, following on from their couplet of projects unveiled in 2020. While their home-recorded shoegazing Future Past Life exuded some of their most ethereal and experimental material to date, Ambient 1 would arrive later in the year and provide a fully instrumental nod to the likes of Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk with its slow building synth lines and retro New Age prog meanderings. Having got all of that artistic experimentation out of the way, and returned to the studio to craft a work full certain to enjoy a touring cycle, Parallel Realms reverts, pivots and dances its way toward a newfound place of Balearic-tinged, disco-laden synth-pop; offering on their eighth full-length LP, a more succinct, direct and instantaneous formula than ever previously proverbed.

Review: Just when you thought all hope was lost along come The Strokes to fulfil the promises they made way, way back with their startling debut 'Is This It'. That was 17 years ago, and while the outfit have made plenty worthy of note in the years between then and now, we'd be surprised if we're the only ones thinking this latest is their best effort since that inaugural outing. Confident but also hungry, rather than bloated and lazy, there's plenty here that you won't be able to get away from in a hurry. 'Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus' might define the package best, delivering some powerful pop energy in an all-round homage to and critique of the 1980s, an era revisited again on 'Bad Decisions', which owes plenty to Billy Idol's Generation X classic, 'Dancing With Myself', with tracks like 'Why Are Sundays So Depressing' diverting to a synthdom route and 'Not The Same Anymore' throwing crooner styles into the mix. Exceptional stuff.

Review: It's hard to believe The Strokes' debut album is 20 years old in 2023. Of course, it sounds very much like the band did at that time, with reviews upon release even celebrating the fact that they'd opted not to mess about with a musical formula that won legions of fans on their debut, Is This It. High speed, turbulent, angsty rock 'n' roll music that isn't just youthful, it's completely disinterested in growing up. Of course, this might be taken to mean a lack of new ideas, but that's precisely where the genius really shines through. Room On Fire is less a band regurgitating and getting 'found out', and more proof of a singular vision of what a guitar band should actually sound like. Really very loud, not at all comprising, and while comparable to many, entirely The Strokes.

It showed off once again their immaculate knack for irresistible hooks and catchy grooves, all of which had been present over four previous albums but perfected on another level here. Alongside the group's signature sounds are thought-provoking, strange and sexy themes. It wasn't promoted hard but the album still hit the Top 10 of the UK charts and the same over in the US. Review: We all know that The Strokes' initial three album run of Is This Is It, Room On Fire and First Impressions Of Earth is the high watermark for their entire back catalogue. But that isn't to detract from their more latter day output, with 2011's Angles amassing a sincere cult following in the years since. Boasting one of their biggest singles to date, 'Under Cover Of Darkness', while showcasing the member's desire to begin toying with the sonic expectations from a band so tightly bound to their garage rock revival roots; deep cuts such as the watery synth-laden opener 'Machu Picchu', would take full advantage of their foray into MIDI electronics, subtly revitalising their formula in a manner many have only just begun to learn to appreciate in earnest.

Review: We have been quietly wondering when the dance music backlash will begin and popular trends will turn back to guitar music, and maybe a reissue of this classic album from The Strokes will provide the catalyst. It was one of three early albums from the band that made for an unreal run of records and it still sounds mega all these years later. The critically acclaimed, gold-certified First Impressions Of Earth was first released back in 2005 and debuted right in the top spot of the UK album charts. It packs a punch with hit singles like hit singles 'Juicebox,' 'Heart in a Cage' and 'You Only Live Once' all proving plenty of singalong joys.

Review: This remastered version brings new life to Strummer's first solo album - and first album in a decade - released in 1999. The reissue meticulously reproduced original artwork by Damien Hirst and Joe's handwritten lyrics to "X-Ray Style" from the Strummer Archive. Abandoning the straightforward rock of Earthquake Weather, Strummer blends reggae, Afrobeat and hip-hop into a globally influenced sound. The Mescaleros provide a fitting backdrop for his eclectic vision, showcasing a more nuanced understanding of diverse musical styles than his earlier work with the Clash. Lyrically, Strummer delivers some of his most cerebral and cryptic content yet, with tracks like 'Tony Adams' and 'Willesden to Cricklewood' standing out as highlights. While the album may lack the fiery chemistry of the Clash, its eclecticism and consistent quality make it a rewarding listen. Rock Art and the X-Ray Style is a distinctive chapter in Strummer's catalog and something you will want to own.

Review: Swedish duo Studio's debut album, a groundbreaking fusion of Balearic textures, Krautrock grooves and post-punk aesthetics gets a reissue here, nearly two decades on from its initial release in 2006. The hazy, expansive production feels perfectly at home on this format, with the "fog" vinyl subtly matching the hazy warmth and depth of the pair's intricate arrangements. From the shimmering guitar lines that drift through the opener to the hypnotic rhythms that define the album's centrepieces, every element is given space to resonate by Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hagg. Review: Swedish duo Studio's debut album, released in 2006, is a masterful blend of genres that defies easy categorisation. Drawing from Balearic beat, disco, and krautrock, the album offers a refreshing take on contemporary music. Opening the LP, "Out There" sets the tone with its expansive, atmospheric soundscapes, inviting listeners into a world of lush melodies and intricate rhythms. As the album progresses, tracks like 'West Side' and 'Self Service' showcase the duo's ability to craft infectious grooves, seamlessly merging organic instrumentation with electronic elements. The closing piece, 'Indo', serves as a contemplative finale, leaving a lasting impression with its hypnotic progression. This album stands as a testament to Studio's innovative approach, offering a timeless listening experience that continues to resonate.

Review: It is still rather cold here at Juno HQ, but the days are starting to feel little longer and brighter, which means we're ever more open to Balearic reveries. Few are better than this one from Studio, the Swedish duo of Dan Lissvik and Rasmus Hagg who created a sound bridging indie, electronic and psychedelic music. Their 2006 debut blended Balearic romanticism with Krautrock, disco, dub, afrobeat and pop lyricism influenced by new wave and has been hard to find in physical and even streaming formats over the years. Inspired by DJ Screw, J Dilla and European live DJ sets, Studio embraced an "anything-goes" ethos, unbound by musical borders, and the results have stood the test of time.

Review: Suede's Dog Man Star, reissued in a half-speed mastered edition for its 30th anniversary, stands as a darkly sensual and troubled masterpiece. Initially overlooked due to its experimental nature and internal band conflicts, this album has since been recognized as Suede's pinnacle. Distancing themselves from Brit-pop, Suede crafted a sound blending glam-rock influences with a moodier, cinematic touch. The album features standout tracks like the gothic 'We Are The Pigs' and the epic 'The Asphalt World,' showcasing Bernard Butler's intricate guitar work. Songs like 'The Wild Ones' and 'Still Life' highlight Brett Anderson's lyrical talent, channeling romantic and nihilistic themes reminiscent of Morrissey. The album's dramatic lyricism and unique tone, from the robotic 'Introducing The Band' to the sparse 'The 2 of Us,' reflect Anderson's stream-of-consciousness writing style. Dog Man Star is an ornate and consistent record, celebrated for its grandiose sound and dark beauty. It remains a definitive statement of Suede's artistic vision, capturing their unique blend of drama and sensuality.

Review: Autofiction is certainly a triumphant return for the mighty Suede, one of the most iconic of all UK indie bands who helped nurture the Britpop movement out of nappies and into big boy pants, and big boy record deals, during the early-1990s. Whether this is exactly the rebirth into a punk outfit some corners of the press would have you believe is another question.

Ultimately, LP number nine definitely feels like a change of tact, with Brett Anderson's voice taking on a new, grizzlier sound (albeit at times still erupting into the siren-esque tones we fell head over heels for first time round). On the whole, it would be far more accurate simply to label this outing as tougher, rawer and much less affected than the stuff we've had in the past.

Review: Suede's Dog Man Star marks its 30th anniversary with a stunning triple CD deluxe edition that reaffirms the album's iconic status. Originally released in 1994, this album is widely regarded as Suede's most ambitious and sonically adventurous work, blending sweeping orchestral arrangements with gritty glam rock and haunting ballads. The new edition is beautifully presented in a 7"X7" deluxe gatefold package, designed by Paul Khera, and features insightful new sleeve notes by Simon Price. The first disc contains the original album, including standout singles like 'We Are The Pigs,' 'The Wild Ones,' and 'New Generation.' The second disc is packed with B-sides and the extended version of 'Stay Together,' a non-album single that remains a fan favorite. The third disc offers bonus tracks and rarities, providing a deeper glimpse into the band's creative process during this period. Dog Man Star was the last Suede album to feature guitarist Bernard Butler, and his influence is evident in the album's expansive sound. This anniversary edition is great for fans and a fitting tribute to a truly extraordinary record.

Review: Suede's legendary self-titled album arrived in March 1993 and soon became a commercial and critical success. It also won the sometimes ill-fated Mercury Music Prize but that did nothing to hold the band back as the record hit the number one spot on the UK Album Chart. It is packed with classic singles such as 'The Drowners', 'Animal Nitrate', 'So Young', and 'Metal Mickey.' In its first week alone this LP sold some 100,000 odd copies which, at the time, made it the fastest-selling debut album ever in the UK. This special anniversary edition has been remastered Phil Kinrade from the original 1/2" tapes so sounds better than ever.

Review: Suede's second album Dog Man Star is alleged to have defined an era; it is considered among many of their diehards as their most musically adventurous record; here, sweeping strings appose orchestral ballads; epic widescreen pieces contrast to, yet befit trashy glam rock. It includes the classic hit singles 'We Are The Pigs', 'The Wild Ones', and 'New Generation'; it's also cited as among their last records to feature guitarist and co-songwriter Bernard Butler. The record's assessment by the first-listen music press, specifically Rolling Stone, as "one of the most pretentious albums ever released by a major label" has likely worked in its favour rather than dashing hopes of greatness: the record's leftward face is mostly stylistic, and besides the flamboyant vocal delivery and sveltely polished mixes, amounts to one of the chicest of chic pop records out there.

Review: Demon Music's new Suede compilation spans the band's whole career and is presented no fewer than six sales of vinyl. The band's first era ran from 1993 to 2002 and took in five monstrously successful albums including their Mercury music prize-winning self-titled debut. Fans will argue the Dog Man Star follow up in 1994 was even better, and it sure was another commercial success, with the hit-packed Coming Up in 1996 another big one. Tracks from all these and more as well as some favourite B-sides and non-album tracks also make the cut.

Review: In terms of landmark releases, you'd be hard pushed to find anyone that doesn't rank Suede's third as a seminal moment in their career. And that's not to say the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler somehow set them free, more to point out this record saw the band reach the heights of critical and commercial success, while also confirming they had definitely found their sound.

It's an album with smash hit singles and iconic tunes like 'Beautiful Ones', 'Filmstar', and 'Trash', all of which are still etched into the memory of anyone who was listening to any radio station back in 1996. But there's much depth here too, with a playlist that offers you nothing but the highest quality British alternative indie rock 'n' roll - passionate, camp, playful, tough and infinitely catchy. We didn't know how good we

Review: Heads will know Suicide as the pioneering duo of electronic music and proto-punk from New York City, consisting of vocalist Alan Vega and instrumentalist Martin Rev. Fewer will know anything more beyond the pale of their debut album, though. 'A Way of Life', their third studio album released in 1988 via Wax Trax!, heard them escape the noise - exploring a more hypnotic, minimalistic synthpop sound. That being said, stonkers like 'Surrender', 'Jukebox Baby 96', and 'Dominic Christ' all still captured the doomy New York zeitgeist. This remastered edition contains a full remaster from its original tapes, as well as a brand new, never-heard-before live Bruce Springseen cover no less.

Review: Alan Vega & Marty Rev's career as Suicide spanned an incredible four decades. During those years, they rarely if ever got much credit for their work but as is often the way, once time passed they started to get deserving plaudits and an ever growing status amongst fans and critics. Now said to be one of the most inspirational outfits of the 70s, they influenced everyone from Depeche Mode to Soft Cell. This brand new, remastered collection takes in tunes from all across the band's career and has plenty of big, raw, energetic and eclectic sounds with track from their first album in 1977 and most recent in 2002.

Review: Suicide are generally referenced in terms of their earth-shattering late 70s debut, but of course Martin Rev and Alan Vega did work together after that. A Way Of Life was their third album, released in 1988 when the world around them had changed so much from when they started out, and yet their sound was still devastating and imposing amidst the culture of bands they'd influenced. Recorded with The Cars' frontman Rip Ocasek, the resulting nine industrial pop songs are as brilliant as anything from their fabled earlier works, and in this special expanded edition we're also treated to a fully remastered version including a clutch of additional tracks including their live cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The USA'.

Review: Berlin-based synthwave and dark disco band Dina Summer return with a sanguine new seven-track record, continuing their reputation for making 80s nostalgist music fans ever more ravenous for their distinct take on EBM and its adjacent styles. Following 2022's acclaimed Rimini LP, this freak zone of a record brings gravely detuned, yet DJ-ready instrumental backings and stiffly but passionately delivered vocal recitations to a modern production palate. This approach reaches its ultimate conclusion on the natural midpoint 'Alien', a track perhaps best describable as a hi-NRG number made in a cryoponic chamber and lent an extraterrestrial theme.

Review: Berlin-based Dina Summer - a synth-loving trio fronted by the suitably sassy and no-holds barred singer Dina P - impressed with their Italo-disco and turn-of-the-millennium electroclash inspired debut album, Rimini. Three years in, they return with an arguably even stronger set - the notably darker, more stylish and more new wave-influenced Girl's Gang. Many of their trademark elements remain to the fore - Dina P's dead-eyed spoken word vocals, the use of vintage drum machine rhythms and sequenced basslines - but this time round come accompanied by black mascara-clad nods to post-punk, New Romantic, goth-rock and Depeche Mode style synth-pop sounds. As previously stated, it is genuinely stylish and impeccably observed stylistically, but what makes it stand out is the substance behind the sheen.

Review: Unsurprisingly, Aromanticism - meaning to have little or no romantic attraction to others - is exactly the idea Moses Sumney explores on this stunning debut. Having written the majority of this album's lyrics in the solitude of remote north American cabins, Sumney's songs about loneliness and distance feel natural and sincere. Throughout 'Aromanticism' Sumney shows off his affinity with vocal acrobatics, leaping from his rasping lower register to achingly dulcet falsetto. Both in his instrumentation and as a vocalist, Sumney strikes a pitch-perfect balance between acoustic and digital, exhibiting his ability to blend the two. Sumney blends passages of spoken word, neo-soul, broken-beat, and the vocal harmonies and movements, cascading with gospel precision, that shone on his 2016 EP 'Lamentations'. 'Aromanticism' is a powerful and heartfelt opening statement from an artist well worth keeping an eye on in the future.

Review: The Sunday was a beloved late 80s/early 90s indie rock band that released three acclaimed albums in both the European and US markets. Their debut, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, was released in 1990 and became a chart success worldwide, riding on the success of their 1989 breakthrough hit 'Here's Where The Story Ends'. Lead singer Harriet Wheeler captivated audiences with her distinctive voice while the band delivered captivating hooks and grooves to complement her vocals, clocking in somewhere between the jangle of The Smiths and the darker hues of The Cure and the sonic sparkle of Cocteau Twins. After three albums with Rough Trade, Parlophone, and Geffen Records, they disappeared from the scene following 1997's Static & Silence. Now, a limited edition 180g black vinyl of Reading, Writing & Arithmetic is available having been remastered from the original analogue tapes.

Review: 'Music For People In Trouble', the latest missive from Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfor, is a marked departure from 2015's 'Ten Love Songs'. Here, Sundfor omits euphoric synth-pop hooks in favour of a quietly confident dappled choral aesthetic. The ideas at work in this album are as varied as those in her previous work, but feel far more cohesive in their execution. Over two songs, Sundfor smoothly transports the listener from the fingerpicking country and western of 'Reincarnation' to an intimate solo piano ballad then to smoky jazz club noir in 'Good Luck Bad Luck'. Without ever feeling heavy-handed, this considered sense of movement and form - paired with Sundfor's at times heart-wrenching lyrics - is what makes 'Music For People In Trouble' so striking.
