He was a prolific producer with a wide array of monikers and had several different styles in his arsenal. This one comes with an insert in which Jake's brother Silas and producer and friend Brian Trower share some stories of Jake the person and musician. 50% of the proceeds to go a charity Silas picked to honour his late brother.

Review: Ben Klock's ever-reliable techno stable welcomes back Temudo, the Portuguese star who has been in steady ascendance over the past few years dropping bombs on Synewave, Planet Rhythm, Modularz, Soma, Blueprint and scores more. His is a taught and focused sound - the kind of thing you'd expect to hear the likes of Klock dropping with glee in the middle of a marathon set. 'Scars' focuses on the subtle details around the groove, edging in kinks around the kick which take on an electro-acoustic quality guaranteed to take you deep into the wormhole. Review: James Pennington remains one of the cult veterans of Detroit's techno legacy, right there at the beginning and wholly revered by those across his work. Even if he still exists a little on the fringes compared to some of his peers, releases like this remind you how respected he is, and for good reason. 'Winds Of Fear' just hits that balance between the true, deep-rooted, classic kind of techno and the otherness which makes the best of the genre memorable instead of forgettable. The trombone-like synth line forming the melodic bedrock of the track is just not something you hear often in techno, but it sounds powerful especially on top of the rough, urgent slap of the Suburban Knight drums. As if the original wasn't enough, we get Robert Hood going in on the track with a tight but funky as hell edit and a dusty beatdown version from Eddie Fowlkes. Legends, assemble!

Review: With a career reaching back some 20 years, Bart Skils has remained committed to the art of the techno 12", with not a single album to his name. Instead, his focus has been on a staggering hit list of legendary labels from Pure Plastic to 100% Pure, Break New Soil, and since 2012, primarily Drumcode. As part of Adam Beyer's core contingent he's played a major part in shaping the sound of the label, and so he continues on this exemplary two-tracker. 'Roll The Dice' is a muscular yet lean workout for the bigger kinds of spaces, playing around with some monotonal vocal threads and laying down the b-line throb you expect from a Drumcode A side. The flip offers something a little different as 'Into The Clouds' takes some looped guitar licks as a vessel for transcendence, atop a steady trucking techno undercarriage, of course.

Their live show informs the way they make music and thus lends it a scintillating and ever-dynamic feel as showcased again by this new EP on their own 430 West label. Review: Adiel's Danza Tribale adventures continue apace as she delivers the fourteenth release on her label. As well as exploring immersive, non-standard rhythms in her well-established style, the Italian artist is also folding some more emotive, trance and pop-informed elements into her sound. 'Nulla Resta' has a bombastic, main stage festival quality to its composition, while 'Sospesa' edges some brooding songwriting qualities into an intricate, elegant d&b-styled production. 'Parole' switches things up with a lighter mood led by organic instrumentation and plucked string leads and 'Notturna' closes the EP out with yet more epic production that confirms the techno stalwart heading into fresh pastures away from the strictures of pure club music.

Review: Donnie Cosmo kicks off the all new Circa Groove label with four pumping tech house cuts that worm their way to the heart of the dance floor as well as deep into your affections. There is a heavy spaced out vibe to these tunes starting with 'Stargazer' (Highway Mix) which indeed feels like a cruise through the stars with bulbous bass and fat drums. 'Wired Nag' is just as much of an intergalactic journey with neon synths leaving wispy tails in their wave over rubbery and pumping drums. Review: Japan-based producer Hoshina Anniversary has already served up two top EPs for the Amsterdam based MUSAR Recordings crew, and now is back with a third that is just as good. As always this producer fuses contemporary sound designs and machine made techno sounds with rational instruments. It's a beguiling mix that means opener 'Guru Guru' kick off with a dark and potent baseline line and exotic melodies. 'Banri' is a gritty and twisted cut with gurgling synth lines and dark waves of synth drones that keep you guessing then 'Kaga' is one for loopy and hypnotic after party wig outs. 'Usagi' closes with unhinged melodies and fluttering snares over silky beats.

Review: Since making his Running Back bow 12 years ago, Sebastien Kramer has periodically returned to Gerd Jansen's label to deliver EPs (and one memorable album). Acid Leak is his eighth release in total for the imprint, and as the title suggests makes extensive use of sounds created by the small-but-mighty TB-303. Kramer sets the tone with the title track, a triumphant blend of acid house and Detroit techno sounds featuring some classic, Underground Resistance style synth strings, before cannily combining rising and falling melodies, buzzing electronics and undulating acid lines on 'Wing Wing'. 'Acid Flow' is a more jacking, forthright and mind-mangling slab of breathless peak-time brilliance, while 'Frantic' sees the experienced German producer join the dots between sci-fi-powered excellence and tactile deepness.

Raf name Kiyoshi Hazemoto, this was Interferon's only release under this alias and one that explored a blisteringly futurist take on techno and a wide range of serene synth scapes. Jay Strata is up next with 'Heart Strings', a plush slice of machine soul schooled in the Detroit approach. Teknobrat brings something a little spicier but no less classically informed, while DJ Mourad completes the set with an edgy, loopy affair to send synapses into overdrive.

Review: UK producer Inigo Kennedy - also known as Seducer, Tomito Satori and Helki Torsnum - comes up with a pair of techno tracks that positively glisten with luxuriant melody and a beautiful musicality that's rare to ape in this - or indeed any - scene. 'RackSpace 2' and 'Dewdrops' both glide with serene ease, the melodies weaving away in the back seat of the track but never threatening to overwhlelm the atmosphere. The latter is definitely operating in a spacier sphere, with the reverbs and delays working overtime, but both are nicely restrained takes on techno that nevertheless paint vivid sonic pictures.

Review: Shiken Hanzo's Eternity Of Echoes EP marks his debut on Anthony Naples and Jenny Slattery's Incienso label outta New York. It is another fine exploration of his halftime drum & bass and rhythmic deep techno sound after previous releases on the likes of Samurai Music, Repertoire and Inperspective. 'Darkest Entities' is just that with its bump drum loops and moody late night pads. 'Eightfold Blessing Of Amaterasu' builds the pressure with serene future synth work and 'Eternity Of Echoes' then brings more texture and menace in the bass. Review: Strome Nr. 2 is a debut long player from Strome aka Mario Schonhofer and Tobias Weber that brings plenty of warm and sensitive sounds to an overall record that is truly powerful. It's been made using the ultra-rare and cult Moog IIIp modular synthesizer amongst plenty of other synths such as the modular system A100 by Doepfer. Plenty of these sappy ambient tracks take you to another world as well as feeding the need to dance with hints of 60s and 70s kraut. Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand features on three tunes 'Right Now', 'Das Modul', and the beautiful 'Stadlberg'. The unique nature of this band really shines through here with retro flourishes next to cutting-edge sound designs.

Review: Vladimir Dubyshkin is a mainstay of Nina Kraviz's Trip label and for good reason. HIs sounds embody the musical MO of the imprint in perfect fashion. This time out he again mixes up a wild sphere of sound from hardcore to rave to acid. 'No Tell Motel' is a bonkers but brilliant tune with fairground energy, pulling techno beats and characterful spoken word vocals that will get supersized crowds going wild. 'Noodle Soup' is a punchy breakbeat workout, then 'Paranoid Thoughts' sinks into a linear, banging, straight-up techno roller with hits to die for. There is a twisted and textured synth tension to 'Ticket To Childhood' that's offset with innocent melodies. Great stuff.

'Silent Core' then dials things back to a more empty and atmospheric sound with zippy leads and rueful chord work. 'Dark Veneer' is a busy mix of tightly sequenced melodic patterns over a jittery groove and 'Life In The Pod' is a clean, crisp, shiny metallic trip.

'Love Train' kicks off with a nagging, wobbly baseline between silvery drum loops and fleshy bass. It's a deeply meditative and dubbed-out world of delicate synths and rolling drums that change only slightly and slowly but manage to keep you utterly locked in for the duration. It's pure techno that has been remastered for this new edition across eight sides of wax. An absolute modern classic for sure.

Review: The most sought-after release from the entire Sounds catalogue, Gemini and Unit T's 1995 release, 'Sideburns', finally gets a much-needed reissue. A1 track, 'Trip', is a prime example of deep house if there ever was one. An infectious, encircling melody meets the deep groove of the bassline to create a finished product that is in equal measure sun-soaked and cosmic. Cartwright's selections thus flit between gorgeous UK techno (Syzygy's 1992 gem 'Meditation'), sub-heavy post-bleep brilliance (Cabaret Voltaire), classic IDM (the Black Dog's Ken Downie as Xeper), mind-mangling slow acid (Thunderhead's excellent 'True Romance'), anti-Criminal Justice Bill material (Ultramarine's 'Happy Land') and some early Matthew Herbert brilliance ('Housewife'). Throw in extensive liner notes from dance music historian Matt Anniss, and you have a fantastic package.

If only every track in the world could hear a remix from the likes of Marcel Dettman and Rodhad! Review: Planet Rhythm's approach to techno is pure and simple, but always effective. The label's sub-series hits an eight relate here with Lenny San serving up some monstrous and macho dub tackle across both sides of this new white 12". 'Matrix' has grainy, gritty chords and hurling great kicks that cannot fail to make a vast warehouse march as one. 'Suggestion' is another economical yet efficient dub techno banger, 'Acryl' has subtle distortion and rusted metal texture bring the forceful groove to life and 'Antagonist' shuts down in fierce fashion.

Review: Phara's Falling Forward EP is about just that - leaning into a still techno breeze and letting it sweep you off your feet. The title track is an expertly economical yet dynamic sound with panel-beaten techno loops, bulky drums and subtle synths lashing about for extra edge. 'Order Disorder' brings more intensity with its urgent and paranoid synth loops front and centre while 'Gate1' is another streamlined banger a la early Skudge. As with so many techno EPs, there is a nod to the Jeff Mills school of interplanetary minimalism on closer 'Cerulean Blue.'

Review: This record is named after Vedanta, an ancient philosophy based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India. The music, originally composed and produced by Joseph S Joyce and later remixed by Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue, was greatly inspired, after reading commentaries from Swami Rama Tirtha's biography "The Scientist & Mahatma" - Chapter 1 - Vedanta and The Secret of Success. Now, some nine years later, it gets served up as a remix EP. There's a dark El Choop Reconstruct, a gorgeous ambient version from Sebastian Mullaert, a minimal headscape from Van Bonn, Federson SF goes warm and dubby and then a crisp, tech-edged vibe from Paul 90 ends the EP in style.

Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: Looooooongish Cat and Davecoin have come together for their debut album Realizer on Adeen. It is a record that swings from the dark and mysterious to the more upbeat and playful as it explores a range of techno styles. The material originates from the pair's live set so has a real dynamism to it as well as it moves through ever-evolving psychedelic soundscapes. Vocals, synth lines, and guitars have all been laid down on tape and then resampled and deconstructed to "create an analog patchwork which floats over the hard-hitting beats and fat analog synths and bass lines." It's an immersive and inventive record that also has a fresh cover design.

Review: After coming up while working in the Rush Hour record store in Amsterdam, Interstellar Funk has now branched out and established his own sound and his own label. And that is Artificial Dance, where he hooks up with Loradeniz for this interesting take on cold wave and synth. The tracks are underpinned by contemporary bass and deep groves which makes them perfect for club play but not at the expense of the melodies. They are curious, crystalline, freeform and mystic and help make this a handy record that brings something different - not least the new age ambiance of 'Situational Lullaby'.

Review: There is a captivating serenity to the first track of Fabio Araneda's new EP for the nascent Heineraudio. 'Moon Of Saturn' has suspensory pads and dreamy melodies that get the mind floating amongst the stars. Deep bass adds weight and texture as you glide in tech house perfection. 'Hifi Profi' has more squelchy sci-fi sounds and rickety beats then the whole of the B-side is taken up by 'Say It' which is a mind-altering minimal excursion into the deepest recesses of space. Review: Don your space suit and hop onboard another trip to Planet Rhythm. This one is at the hands of techno troubadour Klint who is a master of achieving a lot with a little. HIs perfectly designed flops could roll for days if you ask us. And that's whether they are edgy and restless as on the unsettling 'Your Fault' or the more intensely layered 'Organic Rewind' which sounds like an automated factory at peak production levels. The tunnelling techno of 'Carbone' is a real mind maze and 'Dust' is from the Mills school of minimalism.

Review: Toureua's 'Telecommande' (which is French for remote control) is a perfectly uplifting tune that layers in smart trance elements over sleek drums. On the Martin Matiske interpretation, the melodies call to mind the perfect early work of Kraftwerk and the textured bass has hints of 80s magic. All in all, it is smooth and serene and perfect for lift-off whether in high summer or the darkest winter. The original is a little more doleful but no less emotive and then a Felix Bernhardt remix gets heavy and Vicky Montefusco opts for an eerie late-night vibe.
