Review: Boston-based drummer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington reconvenes Max Roach's 1961 landmark with a sharp eye on both lineage and forward motion. Originally conceived as a civil rights-era protest suite, the project blends jazz, voice, and African-diasporic rhythm to address racial justice with clarity and force. This reinterpretation is not a soft tribute - it's a generational handover. Christie Dashiell takes on Abbey Lincoln's vocal role with arresting precision, while the ensemble (including Morgan Guerin, Matthew Stevens and Milena Casado) brings freshness without losing tension. Julian Priester, the sole surviving member of the original lineup, offers a subtle but weighty cameo. Tracks like 'Driva' Man' and 'Triptych' are stretched into wider shapes, drawing on funk, gospel and Afro-Latin idioms without softening the message. As Carrington puts it, this isn't just homage - it's a new freedom suite for now. The message, more than 60 years later, still burns brightly.

Review: Fabric Presents Laurent Garnier is a masterful 4xLP compilation showcasing the legendary French DJ's unparalleled taste in picking deep techno and house tracks. With over 35 years of experience, Garnier elevates the dancefloor like no other, and this collection reflects his exceptional taste and influence in the genre. The compilation features standout tracks such as Deon Cole's infectious 'Where The Freaks At', the atmospheric 'Aftermath' by Culoe De Song, and Anane's reimagined 'Walking On Thin Ice'. Each side offers a seamless flow of energy, including highlights like Sammy Virji & Flowdan's 'Shella Verse' and the dynamic 'Urban Snare Cypher' by Equiknoxx. Normally, a set from Laurent is a balanced look into the history of the genre while being balanced with new music he enjoys. This set focuses all on new music, showing Laurent is in touch with top-notch techno as always.

Review: German electronic nerd and tactile techno master Skee Mask returns to Ilian Tape, the label run by the Munich-based Zenker Brothers, with a fresh batch of his club-ready throbbers. 'TR Nautila' rides on uneven drum breaks with claps loud in there mix, until they aren't, and a stumbling bassline that underpins a morph into jungle-adjacent madness. 'Panic Button' has springy sounds and sludgy low ends, precision-tooled drums and a celestial backlight that pushes and pulls you emotionally. 'MD25' has an industrial clang and clatter that evokes being lost in a strobe-lit warehouse and 'LCC Rotation' is a freewheeling percussive gem with moody pads for all-out assault in the club.

Review: The first recorded meeting of Pierre Bastien (compositeur Parisien) and Casper Van De Velde's (Belgian drummer known for his outings on Qeerecords) documents two days of lowkey live-performed regalia at Werkplaats Walter in Brussels. Set up by Blickwinkel, the residency saw Bastien's "miniature mechanical orchestras" - trumpets, motors, Meccano arms, all of which make up the former artist's trademark live machinic draw - click into orbit with Van De Velde's loose-limbed, textural percussion. Both artists work in detail and gesture before volume, moving gently but unpredictably, index finger tracing part-clockwork, part-creature pattern cuts.

Review: Armin van Buuren is one of the most enduring trance overlords in the scene. He was there at the birth for the genre, and stayed with it through tough times right up to now, when it is very much back en vogue. Here ushers in a new era with the latest in his indefatigable A State of Trance series. The 2025 edition is a triple mix journey showcasing a full emotional and sonic range with 43 tracks across three themed segments, which move from the warm, melodic vibes of On The Beach-with cuts from Claptone x Chicane, AVIRA and OTTAGON-to the high-octane energy of In The Club, including bangers by Ferry Corsten, Andrew Bayer and Gabry Ponte. The final mix, Who's Afraid of 138?!, explodes with peak-hour intensity and is headlined by Armin's collaboration with Rob Swire. This is trance at its most euphoric.

Review: Country and folk singer/songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter is making up for lost time. Having left it five years between albums, the multi-Grammy winner is now onto her second album of 2025, having released a collaborative album, Looking for the Thread, back in January. Chapin's glistening oeuvre, which stretches back to her Steve Buckingham-produced debut in 1987, is bolstered significantly with this new offering, too. 'Bitter Ender', the first single, manages to sound intimate and widescreen at the same time: there's plenty of polish to make it a daytime radio hit, whilst never losing sight of the fact the Americana genre is principally about storytelling and she holds your attention throughout. Meanwhile, 'Home Is A Song' is more downtempo and strives off the beautiful interlocking of simple piano chords and intricate arpeggio guitar. The chorus harmonies are delightful and heartfelt. A solid entry by an all-time great of the genre.

Review: Following 2020's acclaimed Women In Music Pt. III, which earned GRAMMY and BRIT nods, the LA-based American rock trio and sisters HAIM return with their bold fourth studio album on Polydor. Produced by Danielle Haim and Rostam Batmanglij, 15-tracker I Quit leans confidently into their noted classic rock influences while introducing fresh textures, including warped samples and stripped-back ballads. It's a record made for the stage as it is raw, dynamic and deeply rooted in their chemistry as live performers. The record reaffirms HAIM's place as modern rock trailblazers and is familiar yet evolving, so it will appeal to old fans and new ears with its fine balance of swagger and soul.

Review: Aussie Greville returns to Mad Habitat with a haunting four-track suite rich in "acoustic psychotomimesis". His masterful use of texture and atmosphere shines throughout and opener 'I Miss Terry' pairs sharp, restless drums with a pulsing bassline, while 'Purgatory' drifts like a hypnotic dreamscape across the stereo field. On the flip, ethereal vocals ebb and flow and add spectral layers to the sound of 'Dad's Folk (mix)', which is a wonderful curiosity. Closing with 'Electric Push,' which builds on the monologue of 'Dad's Folk,' the record ventures into surreal realms by smearing the experimental edge of Ifach-era Baby Ford with the dark mystique of late Coil.

Review: By the time Load landed in 1996, Metallica were unrecognisable from the denim-and-leather thrash band of the early 80s. Coming off the back of the colossal success of The Black Album (1991), they had gone supernova: stadium tours, chart dominance, and a sudden place in the mainstream they once seemed sworn to resist. Now their mid-90s pivot hears a squeakier-fresh round of polish through this UMR reissue, as Reuben Cohen handles remastering duties under the eye of longtime collaborator Greg Fidelman. Then and now: at the time, Bob Rock returned on production, as he had fo The Black Album, and again drew out a widescreen sound framing 'Until It Sleeps', 'Hero Of The Day' and 'King Nothing' for mainstream impact. This ed also finally restores the full-length version of 'The Outlaw Torn', which was shaved from the 1996 release due to CD length restrictions (the only time a Metallica album track was edited for format).

Review: Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Maurice Louca is part of The Dwarfs of East Agouza with Alan Bishop and experimental composer Sam Shalabi, but also has an assured solo sound. He explores it here on Bar?y (Fera), a new album that is a hypnotic melding of polyrhythms and acoustic textures crafted over four years from the essence of a 2019 solo set. It really took bloom in a Cairo studio with longtime collaborators Ayman Asfour on violin, Khaled Yassine on percussion and Rosa Brunello on double bass. Louca's microtonal guitars weave with synths and ensemble interplay to create vivid synth-acoustic layers and guest stars Nancy Mounir and oud player Hazem Shaheen deepen the sonic richness, all guided by adventurous collaboration and resulting in an alluring, meticulously crafted work.

Review: For many Italo disco fans, Dyva is a legendary, in fact almost mythical, name. Famed primarily for their iconic track 'Oh Mama Tonight,' which was actually released only as a rare promo single, the duo's best work became a holy grail for collectors and true enthusiasts. After just three official releases, they seemingly disappeared until the early 2000s, when Finnish Italo fan Kimmo Salo found them in Italy. This reunion led to a new chapter for Dyva's founders, Roberto Calzolari and Massimo Traversoni, who revived their 80s demos and created fresh material. Spanning 1986 to 2024, this album has it all so is a welcome time capsule.

Like its predecessors, the TRM-222 is equipped with a 3-band master frequency isolator, which uses classic ALPS rotary potentiometers (Blue Velvet RK27) for precise sound control. The kill characteristic allows bass, midrange and treble to be completely cancelled out, giving DJs creative freedom in shaping their sound.

The switchable filter section with HPF, BPF, LPF, resonance and sweep controls allows creative processing of the frequency bands. Two stereo input channels with gain control, clip LED, 3-band EQ and phono/line switching as well as a microphone input channel with gain control, 2-band EQ and on-air switch extend the mixer's range of applications. The LED level display for the master signal (L+R) and cue signal provide a good overview.

New functions at the request of users

During the further development of the mixer, great importance was attached to feedback from the community. New functions such as the VU meter display per channel, dipswitches for individual adjustment of the EQ curve and a booth output (XLR or RCA) with 2-band EQ and volume control testify to the sophisticated functionality of the TRM-222. At the request of the fans, the mixer now has a crossfader in VCA technology with adjustable crossfade characteristics, an adjustable send-return effect path and an adjustable record-out.

In addition, the TRM-222 offers two direct outputs for timecode applications and a variety of outputs: Master and Booth (XLR/ RCA L/R), Record (RCA L/R), Master Insert Send/Return (RCA L/R) and FX In/Out (stereo jack).
