Andrea & Alexander - "Olias" (3:29)
Tina - "Vacation" (4:06)
Review: Ahead of an oncoming Tbilisi party set to be thrown by the Sameheads crew, their latest 7" appears ahead of time as the latest offering by fellow friends, Andrea & Alexander. With just 300 copies available, this dreamy duo share a juxtaposed space with a more esoteric, gritty B-side, occupied by TINA's 'Vacation', which breaks from the usual Sameheads sound, almost entirely, to indulge a massively wonky inhumation. The A's own 'Olias', by contrast, is light and sixteen-thy, dotting along with detuned Italo saws and descending cadences of relief. Once performed live at the fabled Sameheads festival, City Of A Thousand Suns, the label here celebrate its recorded version for the world to hear on repeat.

Windows Of My Mind (5:09)
Windows Of My Mind (remix) (4:56)
Review: The story of this one revolves around San Diego native Anthony "Antone" Williams. He was one day alone in a studio, messing about with the gear and before he knew he it lay down the haunting rhythm that underpins the tune now presented here by the good folks at Athens of the North. It's a sinister, restless one that got released as a hugely limited 7" on Unity Records with otherworldly soul production and a pained vocal up top. Post punk soul, some call it, and that's a fitting descriptor. A remix appears on the flip but the allure of the original is hard to beat.

Review: Following on from their widely acclaimed album Afraid To Leave, Berlin's beautiful maudlin post-punk outfit Bleib Modern presents a compilation of remixes and reworks by esteemed artists from across darkwave, post-punk, and EBM. From IV Horsemen's club-worthy rendition of 'Bitter Smile' to M!R!M's dreamy synthpop take on 'Into The Night' via Dune Messiah's crooning 'Loony Voices, 2 Afraid 2 Leave: Remixed Reimaged Reloaded Part 2 offers truly diverse interpretations. With contributions from luminaries like The KVB and Blind Delon, it provides a fresh perspective on Bleib Modern's sound and serves as an exciting interlude that showcases the band's versatility and paves the way for future creations

Review: Aussie larrikin DJ WHPRSNPR is back on his very own Nerang Recordings with a motley crew of upstarts on this one. Fittingly titled Freaky Friends 2, it features DJ Swagger with some off-kilter UK bass on 'Hotice Water' and Low Tape with the NSFW booty bass of 'So Delicious' on the A side, followed over on the flip by Ole Mic Odd's sci-fi electro funk jam 'In The House' and Berlin's Nasty King Krule doing his best Dopplereffekt impression on 'Stop Talkin Boy' among others.

Unovidual & Tara Cross - "Like I Am, Comme Je Suis" (The Floor mix) (7:11)
Unovidual & Tara Cross - "Imponative" (3:28)
Review: Thanks to the eternally revered Minimal Wave imprint, out of NYC, Mark Phillips and Robert Lawrence's Five Times Of Dust project is going through a bit of a revival. The duo had first released some post-punk cassettes back in the 80s, and they clearly have not been forgotten. On this new remix EP, "Computer Bank" is given a makeover in the form of a The Floor remix, who proceeds to add all sorts of quirkiness over the tune's tough, heavy bass and driving rhythm; "Armoured Car" breaks the 4/4 in favour of something much closer to the band's original drum machine style. Once again, on the flip, we have a remix of "Like I Am, Comme Je Suis" by The Floor, who throws up a gnarly electro bass onto shady, neo-romantic vocals, and the whole things is finished off by "Imponative" from Unovodual and Tara Cross, who produce a slow, heady industrial groove for the dancefloor.

Flaamingos - "Naomi" (2:44)
The KVB - "Still Warm" (2:56)
The KVB - "I Call First" (4:26)
The KVB - "Outlines" (3:06)
Review: New York's Felte label is famed around our parts for knowing how to put together a collaborative EP, but this latest joining of forces from the Flaamingos and The KVB is simply right on the money! The former are a household band who have appeared repeatedly on the label, an outfit who share a post-punk sensibility, while the latter are a Berlin-based duo who indulge in dark and brooding club music that's strangely free of any genre tags. The A-side features three tracks from the band, where the wonderful "Naomi" steals the limelight thanks to its melancholic mood and driving percussive beats, while the flip contains three slabs of moodier, vocal-filtered electronica; our pick has to be "Still Warm" for its early eighties Mancunian edge. Deep and mesmerising!

Kimshies - "12 Windows" (4:22)
Rees - "Lucifer's Tango" (5:25)
Endrik Schroeder - "Rainy Days" (5:48)
Review: Berlin-based Ombra International love all things post-punk and Italo disco, and they continue to represent that fusion in style on their 21st release. First up HLM brings a heavy wash of synths to 'En Ecailles' before Tony Y Not get into a twanging new wave vibe on 'How About Lily'. Kimshies has a sleazier sound to offer up, while Rees pushes all manner of vintage arpeggios at the behest of 'Lucifer's Tango'. That leaves it to Endrik Schroeder to finish the set with the atmospheric 'Rainy Days', a perfect tribute to washed out 80s post-punk with a strong dose of disco pumping in its veins.

Review: In eleven years of deep digging, Dark Entries has uncovered many curiosities, lone exemplars of the scarsest breeds. They are lurking in Croatia, on the streets of New York, maybe in the back of your own dusty closet - these odd-ball Italo and synth-wave monsters are too rare to live, too divine to die. Once-lost creatures now have a home with Dark Entries' new Endangered Species series. The inaugural edition features five specimens previously deemed extinct, only mentioned passingly in lore and speculation, but now safely preserved on vinyl.

Loving The Alien (4:19)
Review: It's been some six years since Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve and Michel "The Hacker" Amato last delivered fresh material together. While we await further news of their long-mooted comeback, there's this tasty EP of previously unheard archive material to enjoy. Made up of tracks recorded between 1997 and '99 - when their production partnership was in its' infancy - The Lost Tracks Volume 1 contains a number of fuzzy, stylish, floor-friendly bangers, from the S&M-themed madness of opener "Leather Forever" and stripped-back electro gem "Nightlife" (a tribute to Berlin clubs of the period, apparently), to the high-tempo acid-loaded freakishness of "Loving The Alien". Top-notch sleaze.

The Klinik - "Moving Hands" (Helena Hauff remix) (3:46)
Kubler Ross - "Victims Of Victimless Crimes" (John Bender cover version) (4:17)
Review: Well, you can't really beat The Vinyl Factory in terms of its diversity of output, especially when they get some of the most interesting and current techno artists to remix EBM material from the 1980s. The So-Low compilation has been one of this year's best releases by a mile, a collection of hard-to-find gems from the likes of Colin Potter, Hard Corps, and many more, but we were utterly gobsmacked when we heard who was reinterpreting this gold. First up, Diagonal's lanky Powell transforms P/1e's "49 Second Romance" into a bubbly gunshot of a tune that keeps the original's vocals intact amid the gargles and jagged percussion stabs, and this killer is followed by JD Twitch's wondrous edit of "Gerry & The Holograms" by "Gerry & The Holograms". The ace Helena Hauff reshuffles The Klinik's "Moving Hands" into a deranged, synth-heavy techno swarmer, and John Blender gives us a cover version of "Victims Of Victimless Crimes" by Kubler Ross, a visionary remix that wraps up this total belter of an EP. Totally and wholeheartedly recommended!!

Lee Harvey Oswald (Sneaker "Maquette" mix) (8:40)
Trans Amor Express (Sneaker "Traaans" mix) (7:06)
John Wayne (Sneaker "Dynamic" mix) (5:50)
Review: Emotional Rescue did the diggers another great service by gathering up the recorded material from Bordeaux synth-pop outliers Takenoko, and now they're sweetening the deal even further with this EP of wild style mixes from Dresden maverick Sneaker DJ. Picking three of the strongest tracks from the L'Amour Est Mon Arme collection, he comes up with three drastically diverse end results to suit the most adventurous selectors. The "Maquette" mix of "Lee Harvey Oswald" has a wonderfully lo-fi finish that accentuates the DIY new wave angles of Takenoko, while the "Traaans" mix of "Trans Amor Express" becomes a trippy, brittle beat excursion that should appeal to lovers of oddball 80s dub mixes. The "Dynamic" version of "John Wayne" finishes the record off in bombastic fashion, all boxy beats and powerful synth lines punching out underneath the quintessential wavey vocals.

Review: We love Talking Drums. At the core, they are simply our type of band. An album, a few EPs, and then disappear before the scene kicks off and becomes commercialized. Boxes all well and truly ticked. The early 80s were a period of change what with punk music evolving into post-punk, and while the nu-romantic fashion that came to prominence in the mid 80s was a national movement, it was bands like Talking Drums which initiated it. Thanks to the ever-reliable Dark Entries, we now get to enjoy their best single, Courage, in all its glory - and it sounds like it's been pressed up properly, too! All you need to know at this point, if you haven't come across this already, is that it's one of the best disco-not-disco singles you'll ever cop...and we don't have a favourite tune...they're all equally raw, drum-heavy, house-envisioning, and utterly addictive. Hotly tipped!

Review: Following last year's debut with the wonderfully wonked "C60 Lato A", Manchester's motley lot ungag their percussive instruments once again for another slice of craft editry. Once again, plucked from the deepest crate fathoms, "Disco Danube" whisks us across mainland Europe on a mystic bed of dreamy chords, all textured, grainy and coded with hope and a killer middle eight. "Space Talk" digs us an even deeper tunnel into a sexy sci-fi new romantic odyssey that ripples and shimmers as the male vocal purrs us onto the dancefloor. It's good to talk.

Review: Paolo Tarsi, enigmatic Italian producer of electronic and chamber music, follows up an impressive full length on Rebirth last year with "Artificial Intelligence EP" for Cattolica-based imprint Mondo Groove. Dark Italo disco on Giallo kind of vibes throughout - the EP presents three remixes of the title track by Italian pop outsider Andrea Tich, Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionig with their slow, lo-slung and cosmic rework and DJ Ralf (founder of Laterra) who brings things to a close with a hypnotic polyrhythmic version that rides on an acidic house groove.

Review: Some lovely vocoder pop courtesy of London duo Alexander Keefe & Joakim Kristiansen aka Teachers: actually real life teachers in fact. One of the guys released previously on WT as Tagwell Woods and the label claims that this "works at home or in the club." True that. This is convincing '80s synthpop from the machines right through to the methodology and recording techniques (it seems!) and even hints at taking influence from legends such as Erasure, Pet Shop Boys or Stephin Merritt's Magnetic Fields project. Comes with colour picture sleeve with photo realistic painting by Gabe Benzur.

Head Over Heels (Mark Barrott Flying Wings Of Love Re-Imagination) (6:39)
Review: Since the mid 1980s, there's been much discussion - in beard-stroking circles, at least - of the Balearic credentials of Scottish synth-poppers Tears For Fears. The band seems to have finally cottoned on to this, commissioning White Isle resident and International Feel boss Mark Barrott to provide fresh reworks of "Head Over Heels" in honour of Record Store Day. Happily, he's done a terrific job, particularly on the epic A-side "Sketches From A Sunrise Spiritual Meditation". Built around layered, ultra-positive synthesizer arpeggios and a saucer-eyed ambient sensibility, it brilliantly ebbs and flows throughout. The flipside "Flying Wings of Love Re-Interpretation" is almost as blissful and every bit as loved-up.

Review: Towa Tei is best known for his membership of the influential house music troupe Deee-Lite, the legacy of which has helped sustain a prolific solo career. Now comes the two fresh bits 'Ear Candy' and 'Muse'. Channelling the aesthetic spirit of Tei's many collaborators and influenecs - that of singer and drummer Yukihiro Takahashi, once a member of the legendary techno-pop band Yellow Magic Orchestra, and the artist Yayoi Kusama - we get something between broken beat, electro-funk, and downtempo dadaist electronica as the result, as we are implored to "bring that funky music", an impulse almost certainly as addictive as the sugary highs elicited from actual candy.

Review: Life & Death's head honcho DJ Tennis serves up some brooding, pop inflected deep house for main room madness on "Divisions" featuring the rich vocals of Jeppe Kjellberg of Danish pop-tronica trio Whomadewho; expect to be hearing a lot of this one this year! We've also the more straight ahead, dark melodic journey track executed in the way that only a Life & Death record can be on "Chirality" featuring some intense atmosphere provided by Sophie Trudeau's (Godspeed You Black Emperor!) string orchestra direction. "Divisions" gets an equally dark and mysterious remix, full of rich synth leads and bleepiness by Frankfurt master Roman Flugel and "Chirality" gets an epic makeover by experimental electronica legends Plaid, which is equally worthy of your attention.
