Jungle Hardcore (4:47)
Pulp Fiction (4:45)
Pulp Fiction (remix) (5:43)
Review: One of the most iconic labels in jungle history, Ibiza Records continue to dig deep into the vaults for cult classics and unreleased gems. Now 12 editions deep into the series, this time we're treated to collaborations between 2 On A Tip (Jay-Cee and GT) and the bossman himself. 'Jungle Hardcore' hits first with its late 92 style hardcore riffs and oceanic breaks and sudden cosmic bridge while 'Pulp Fiction' comes in two different versions. Sampling the classic Tarantino film (complete with a bit of Dick Dale's surf guitars) both cuts go in hard with amens and chops with pure 95 fire. History on wax.

Pauk - "Shiawasena Fukushu" (4:24)
Perdi Rominger - "Empty Spot" (8:20)
Promising/Youngster - "Arbey" (5:32)
Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

Justice & Metro - "Shadowkid" (5:40)
Pixl & Peeb - "Koi Fable" (5:49)
Sicknote & Escher - "Trouble Part 2" (5:48)
Review: Proper pristine, technical drum & bass here from the Transmute crew, expending far more effort than most junglists in fleshing out the body, weight and polish of each constituent sound. Mostly forgoing sampled breakbeats, the 'DUOS' EP hears refreshingly unusual sound design choices dance over a more straight-up rollage in the rhythm section(s). From the opening washer pads of Abstract Drumz & Optimystic's 'Energy To The Universe', to the closing techstep clanks of Sicknote & Escher's 'Trouble Part 2', this EP brings a variety of emotions to a gestalt whole, unified by its consistently clean production.

Ahmad & Gremlinz - "Grinder" (5:20)
Ahmad & Parallel - "Judgement Day" (6:03)
Acid Lab - "Jericho" (6:03)
Review: Acid Lab gets all two-face on this new EP for burgeoning jungle imprint Convoluted Records. First up are two collabs under his Ahmad alias; "Grinder" sees Gremlinz join the fray with a nasty hornets nest bassline and pitched breaks that seem to melt through the LFOs while Parallel helps him unleash the soul of Beelzebub himself on "Judgement Day". "Jericho" closes on a savage jungle note with haunted choral effects and broadsword breaks. For a label called Convoluted, this sure cuts straight to the point.

Scott Allen - "Jah Is Coming"
Pixel - "Babylon"
Review: Marco Grijsen and Scott Allen's Soul Rebel label may have waited almost a year to come through with a new 12" but it was more than worth it! Allen himself is involved, splitting sides with Soul Rebel debutant Pixel, a UK based producer whose made waves with a recent split release with Malaky on the Expressions label. Allen pulls rank and lines Side A with "Jah Is Coming" which lives up to it's conscious Rastafari title, pairing vicious amen-lead rhythms with the occasional drop into a skanking sample. The vibe is retained by Pixel on the rolling "Babylon" which is in truth a bit more playful in execution.

Amaning & Dizplay - "Sienna"
Mijatoho - "Something True"
Sabre - "Floating Source"
Physics - "Far East"
Review: Amaning has been bubbling under on the drum & bass scene now for some time. 'Sienna' has Amaning's stamp of quality all over it, plus a little something extra from Dizplay. Starting out with a huge string soaked intro and leading into gigantic drop. With techy sounds, tough beats and loads of low end bass, this tune really shines and leaves you panting for more. 'Something True', from Mijatoho has crisp beats and bongos, allowing the tune to roll out on to the dance floor with ease. The creeping bass line keeps building throughout the intro until it hits home at the first drop and carries the tune through a soundscape of vocal samples, choppy beats and precision editing. Superb! Sabre has been a fast rising star on the drum & bass scene this year teaming up with artists such as Alix Perez & Jenna G. His talent has been well and truly recognised. 'Floating Source' is a perfect example of just what he's capable of. Beautifully atmospheric and eerily dark at the same time, this song has so many levels to it. The continuous and repetitive bass line gets you stuck in the groove while the tough beats keep you glued to the dance floor. 'Floating Source' is a must have for anyone who likes their tunes deep, dark and soulful. Physics, the Finnish producer is brimming with confidence and it really shows in the track 'Far East'. It is a deep and atmospheric tune that follows the mood of 'Floating Source' nicely on this EP. With a heavy middle eastern feel and a tough bassline, this tune is full of interesting ideas and clever drops that take you by surprise. A fantastic end to the 'Global Sessions Volume 2'.

Review: From the label that sent sparks flying last year, the third eagerly awaited release from Lifted Music is here to impressively kick start 2008.

Now six volumes deep, there's plenty of soulful gold to pick from as we're reminded once again. Highlights include the dusty waves and mystical shimmers of Villem & McLeod's 'No More Games' and early career defining cuts from the likes of GLXY (the introspective cosmic groover 'Remember To Forget') and Hybrid Minds and Riya (the powerful, triumphant 'So Far'). Hitting the spot.

Pev & Kowton - "End Point" (Sam Binga remix) (5:23)
Review: A special vinyl-only remix couplet from Critical's bashment professor Sam Binga. First-up the ever-sharp Sully jungles the dickens out of the Warrior Queen-front "Wasted Days", adding a whole hurricane of energy through the crafty edited breaks and cool sense unpredictability. Flip for a trip to Livity Sounds circa 2013 where Pev & Kowton laid down a delicate synth jam and Sam craftily brings it up to around 160, adds a few fluttering twists but loses none of its crystalline soul. Grab this while you can.

Review: Schools don't get any older, or more hardcore. Persian Prince originally dusted off his old DATs in early 2015, selling a hyper-limited run of 70 12s. Back by popular demand, each of these cuts still knock spots off a lot of modern jungle cuts thanks to their ridiculous drum edits and rule-free dynamics. Highlights include the dancehall murderation of "Persian Sound", the wily drum magic of D Lux's "Dub Fi Dub" and the outrageousness of "Truth". Forever future.

Blu Mar Ten - "Sandstorm" (7:49)
PFM - "Runaway" (9:03)
Review: Two essential but lesser known pieces of the ambient jungle jigsaw dusted off and brought back to the table courtesy of the De:tuned label. Both sides sound fresh as the proverbial daisy though, with Blu Mar Ten's Sandstorm floating along on a cloud of echoing saxes and trumpets and a bed of strings and sparkling keys, the nifty breakbeat manipulation bringing early Photek, Source Direct or Klute to mind. PFM's Runaway is a little steadier in the beats department, playing a chugging Amenbreak off against some soul-heavy vocals, but with the same celestial orchestration going on way up there in the ether. Big on beats, even bigger on the musical element, this is the business.

Bulletproof - "Unleash Me"
Psidream - "Obstruction"
Review: Straight after their successful collaboration with the Upbeats, Bulletproof are back in the Red Light district to rough up the dance with 'Unleash Me'. A swarm of synths swoop to surround, as a robust riff sneaks in to strike swiftly. Somehow simultaneously sharp like a saw and smooth, it stirs up synapses before slipping off for a short time. In its stead several understudy sounds offer their interpretation of the text before the lead returns to light up the sonic stage. Dense, insistent and difficult to resist. As you can tell by the title, this is a tune that gets what it wants! 'Obstruction', a high-pitched pad and hi hats open proceedings before 'Psidream' piles on the percussion on the path towards producing a piece of music that packs heat. The spoken sample of a citizen who lives a life of sin coolly surveying the scene before him from atop an alleyway is a neat little nod to what comes next: Marauding midrange tears through the track with its talons as the bassline bounds along beneath. Both combine to contribute enough beans and balls to beat up bad guys and wipe any floor.

Vibe-winding 170 swingers, both versions "5 O'Clock" leap with early-day jump up mischief and happy-slap riddims. "XXX Funk" sings a similar tune but with a little more punk to the live bass element. Review: Following the recent Potential Bad Boy reissue 'Retro 3', here comes another blast from the foundational past with the short-lived Redskin imprint. This time it's back to 1994 with the producer previously known as Chatterbox (with Big Vern on Noise Factory) taking the lead with a killer reggae sample and happy-slapping breaks on 'Journey Into Sound' and a champion loving vocal on 'Dub Fe Dub'. Meanwhile Potential Bad Boy serves up another blueprint in the form of the deep space escapade 'Jungle Sound Scape'. Review: Back on wax by popular demand (this time green), OG producer Chatter B's return to the game enjoys a re-boost and it still sounds every bit as vital; "Smoke Da Weed" has that bubbly Breakage feel that just hums through a system so sweetly. Elsewhere "Jam Hot" hits with a little more Bristol flavour, all minimal and bouncy, while the reggae-topped "Burn Down Da Dance" hits with much chunkier beats and more of a modern D&B feel. That's before we even get to the ravey jam from OG solider Potential Bad Boy. Jump on it or wait two years for another reissue.

Review: The first release on the freshly minted Molt label is special on a number of levels, not least a transparent marbled vinyl pressing and the inclusion of ten specially prepared locked-grooves from lead artist DB1. He also provides two superb A-side cuts too: the hissing, deep space hum of "Late Night" - a fine fusion of abstract electronics, dub techno and pitched-down grooves - and the abrasive, slowly shifting ambient creepiness of "Tone". Over on side B, DYL offers up a wonderfully creepy slab of sparse, minimalist and metallic techno/bass music fusion while Paragon delivers a druggy trip into alien electronics and strange, sludgy beats and abstract sounds.

CCL & Flora FM - "Iridescent Lake" (8:13)
Papers - "Beaman" (5:43)
Silene - "Jiro" (6:17)
Review: "Gazillions" marks a first VA offering for the Fever AM label. It calls upon emerging producers from around the world and kicks off with Russian duo Formally Unknown. "Lotus Turbo" is a squelchy electro workout with kick drums to die for. CCL and Flora FM then come together for "Iridescent Lake", an utterly wild drum workout that will blow your socks off. London based brothers Ed and Rob work together as Paper on the old school bleep techno cut "Beaman" before Silene rounds things out with "Jiro", the most experimental of the lot thanks to its hall of mirror feel, slithering synths and jerking rhythms. Fresh indeed.

Jump N Twist
Review: Taken from their forthcoming "Adventures In Freestyle" album to be released later this year, Freestylers team up with Breakbeat Kaos' Pendulum and vocalist Mc Sir Real on this raucous, rocked out production that features rough guitar riffs, tough stepping beats and quirky bits of synth action. On the flip "Jump & Twist" is a rocking breakbeat anthem with reggae vibes, dope female vocal samples, skanking synth rhythms, a touch of a rasta vocal and a huge building over the top explosive moment.

Painkiller (Noisia remix)
Painkiller (Ed Solo & Skool Of Thought remix)
Review: Always pushing the boundaries of dance music, Freestylers return with an incredible new single from their forthcoming "Adventures In Freestyle" album, to be released on Against The Grain. "Painkiller" is a collaboration featuring d&b dons Pendulum and as we previously witnessed on "Fasten Your Seat Belts", this is an awesome combination. MC Sir Real adds a rawkus vocal to their uncompromising use of rocked out guitars and thumping basslines, creating a sure fire classic. Backed with album track "Jump & Twist". The remix 12" sees "Painkiller" receiving a blinding remix from one of d&b hottest producers, Noisia, and like Pendulum before them, Noisia have shaken the scene senseless with sheer sonic strength. Their production style transforms "Painkiller" into a grimy tear out. The other side also sees a floor smashing breaks mix from Ed Solo & School of Thought.

Isaac Maya - "King Of Jungle" (feat Biga Ranx) (4:48)
MCD - "Alright" (feat Ragga Twins & Myesha - Benny Page remix) (5:03)
Review: Four firing ragga jungle versions from French skank-shakers Psychodynamik. First up; Ed Solo adds some serious turbo juice to Freestylers & Stereotype's 2013 bubbler "The Coming Storm", Turnable Dubbers follow with a similarly satisfying twist on Protoje's "Who Knows", retaining the full vocal but adding a warm, rugged bass flow beneath. Deeper into the 12" we hit a dancehall-minded twist on Isaac Maya's "King Of Jungle" while Benny Page does what he does best on MCD's Ragga Twins-fronted "Alright". Jungle filth!

Monrroe - "Horizon" (feat Jinadu) (4:51)
Review: Friction's Shogun Audio return to update their "Shuriken" collection of classics from their vaults for a first-time, special collector's vinyl press. While previous editions have dug deep into the label's full repertoire, this one captures a much more recent snapshot of the label and the deeper sound it's been celebrating in the last few years. Friction takes the lead with the subtle, sultry charms of "For This" with Liam Bailey from the label's recent 15 year anniversary collection, before Pola & Bryson's 2019 chiller "Cold Love" raises the cosmic pressure. Flip for some superb double bass-slapping funk from Document One in the form of "Like This" before man-of-the-moment Monrroe shuts down the EP with the belting star-gazer soul of "Horizon". Stunning.

Future Engineers - "Down Time"
PBK - "Stepping Tones"
Review: Future Engineer's 'Down-Time' sees Scotland's finest return in top form with their much anticipated release from this highly talented duo on Camino Blue Recordings. Trademark scattered effects, and oceans of digital waves ease you into the deep bassline drop, where the track is suddenly injected with a frenetic source of energy. Guaranteed to work wonders on the floor, this is mood music of the future and will take you to a higher plane! Its already been supported by some of the scenes main figures like Marcus Intalex, Nookie, Tayla, Greenfly or Subject 13 to mention but a few. You don’t want to miss this one! P.B.K-Stepping Tones-P.B.K's first vinyl outing for a while sees the duo return in fine form. Stepping Tones has a nervous tension with its startling synth tones that introduce themselves immediately after the analogue bass drop. Lovely washes of vocals from Russian vocalist Salamandra take the track to the next level, and fill out the ambient soundscapes to full effect. This one aims directly at the floor, while stopping off at the mind to infect you with it's grooves.

Review: Jungle Cakes aren't letting up right now; spitting out the skankers like tobacco chewers, every release has been a rolling reggae-fused bomb lately. These are no exception; Tiffani Juno's vocal (which has recently sported releases on Digital Soundboy and Kitsune) hit the spot perfectly over Solo's signature blunderbuss bass. Flip for Bostron's horn-heavy twist of Giddimani's weed/Katy Perry homage. Kissable.

Review: Shogun unleash another cheeky "Shuriken" surprise with four more modern day classics blessing wax for the first time. The A-side takes a distinct liquid approach as GLXY's "Changed Forever" plays with shades deftly, skipping between light and dark while Pola & Bryson's "Running In The Dark" will have you singing along within seconds. Why Don't You (feat monologue) (4:34)
Carpaccio Funk (feat Paul SG) (5:36)
Arrivee (feat Joakuim) (5:40)
Review: After years of killer cuts on Fokuz and Celsius, longstanding Austrian soul seekers Roy Green & Protone make their Spearhead debut with four on-point rollers and a selection of well-welcomed collaborations... "The Healer" leads with a breezy, roomy chiming aesthetic that fools you into the idea you're dreaming before "Why Don't You" kicks you hard in the wake stakes with its rolling fretless bass and lingering pianos. "Carpaccio Funk" continues the real bass feel, this time with a loose-stringed double bass chatting away under low key trumpets and a classic break that has SG's stamp all over it. Finally "Arrivee" shuffles in a sweet closure. Spacious and restrained it's the type of track that fits in everywhere and never leaves your playlist.

Greg Packer, Physics & FX909 - "If You Know"
Review: "Inside Tonight" is a very catchy effective drum & bass roller. Nice warm melodies, catchy male vocals and a warm hovering bassline that hums along with the melody. The flip is a collaboration of 3 Fokuz artists. It reminds us of early Goodlooking tunes. Subtle rolling beats, and a clear bassline. A great atmosphere and an occasional vocal that breaks the flow and the tune just rolls and rolls keeping you locked at all times.

Got To Roll
Review: By now, you should know what to expect from Hype and Pascal's Playaz imprint. Suffice to say "True Born Playa" is another fierce bass bin attack from Gridlox and Prolix, with MC Fats providing some original jungle vocal flavour over a typically dark and intense bassline. Flip "Got To Roll" sees the trio career off down a very different path, offering up an immaculately produced liquid roller. With Fats providing a wonderfully soulful vocal to compliment Gridlox and Prolix' sensual sax and golden strings, it's an excellent alternative to the fist-pumping A-side. As usual, Playaz hit the spot.

Review: Icy's Entropy imprint hits its second outing and he's brought along his equally talented and uncompromising cousin Proxima for the ride. "Outer Planes" (with ex Pendulum MC Ben Verse) kickstarts the adventure with grainy, scratchy bass while Icy goes solo for "Dust Me Off" with a lolloping, technoid hypnosis jam and Proxima gets squelchy and savage on "Retrace". "Deep Dreaming" maintains balance with a final colab between the two... And it does so with serious wind tunnel harmonic drama. Feel the burn.

Review: Immerse, Philth & Ant TC1 tap into their early influences on this new EP on the mighty Metalheadz label. It comes pressed up in nice white vinyl but is actually a moody and throwback sound. 'Dark 97' is just that - an unrelenting and heavy brew with savage bassline and monstrous beats. Incident - "Straighthead"
Place 2B, Paimon & Nphonix - "Deadly Funk"
Review: It's a marriage of darkness and funk across this two track 12"... Incident provides the former with the brutal neuro-esque battle soundtrack "Straighthead". Grunting, mechanical and wholly industrial, it instantly conjures up visions of Renegade Hardware back in their glory days at The End. Looking for something a little less confrontational? Then flip for "Deadly Funk". A co-lab between the Teddy Killerz alter egos Place 2B and Paimon and Nphonix, it's a whistling, guitar-twanging slammer that drops into a bassline that's manages to sound like it's on both Hospital and Playaz. Talk about ticking every box...

Light Bleeds Truth
Review: Prolix's Trendkill goes from strength to strength. Only four releases deep, they're already stamping their authority on the scene with a red hot branding iron. Both sides of this heavyweight 12" suggest why... Irish partnership Infiltrate take the A with a stripped back spiked out tear-up that's powered by industrial strength kicks, rich bass textures and cosmic, spine-shuddering pads. Meanwhile on the B Prolix collars the never-failing Klute for a spooked out stepper that rolls with molten metal grace. Demonic dynamics a-go-go, it's one of those cuts that keeps on building and building with genuine menace. Killer.

Review: As their superb name suggests, The Jazzassins make jazz tinged drum & bass. Never was that more apparent than on this silky new split 12" for Jazzsticks Recordings, which features Paul SG on the other side. His opener 'Kings Town' is a bubbly, reagge-laced rhythm with blasts of rapping bass and tumbling drums that demand you dance. He then offers 'Parts Of Me,' a harder edge stepper with big and icy hi hats. The Jazzassins for their part seduce with 'Evolution' and then get more edgy and artsy with the hopping 'Bawrley.'
