Pastaman - "Take Your Time" (4:56)
Review: Spanish stable Satta Sounds get busy on their Tuff Cut TCR series once again, inviting a rabble of roustabouts to the table: Conscious Species, Dr Um, Wize & Deadly and Pastaman all lay down their uncompromised designs and it's another freestyle breakbeat frenzy. Highlights run rife from the opening flutters and skips of Conscious Species' 'Warming Up' to the walloping swing and funk of Pastaman's finale 'Take Your Time'. Don't take that title literally, either! This 12" is limited and likely to fly as fast as the breaks themselves.

The Jazzassins - "Bawrley" (7:10)
Paul SG - "King's Town" (6:35)
Paul SG - "Parts Of Me" (7:36)
Review: As their superb name suggests, The Jazzassins make jazz tinged drum & bass. Never was that more apparent than on this silky new split 12" for Jazzsticks Recordings, which features Paul SG on the other side. His opener 'Kings Town' is a bubbly, reagge-laced rhythm with blasts of rapping bass and tumbling drums that demand you dance. He then offers 'Parts Of Me,' a harder edge stepper with big and icy hi hats. The Jazzassins for their part seduce with 'Evolution' and then get more edgy and artsy with the hopping 'Bawrley.'

Hardcore Blips (4:34)
Hardcore Blips (Fanu remix) (5:22)
Review: Malaga-based producer Pablo Dread comes to Beat Machine Records for the eleventh edition of the special series Swinging Flavors, this time for the titular 'Hardcore Blips'. It's a limited edition 7" vinyl featuring swanging bassline kicks, shaking us to our core. This is a full-throttle journey hurtling towards uncontrollable euphoria with electrifying vibrations that magnetically pull us into a one-way ticket to ecstasy. The track's old-school rave sound, a hallmark of Dread's productions, immerses us ambiances typical of the 90s, with recurring piano chords that give way to a heavy and strict drum & bass drop. The single features a special remix by Fanu (Janne Hatula), known for his dynamic and evolving rhythms. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Fanu takes a departure from his usual thick chord-driven pieces, opting for a more minimal yet delightfully busy and slightly wonky approach. Drawing inspiration from Luke Vibert, this remix adds a playful and unique twist to the track.

Ready (7:15)
Slippers (5:53)
Review: Standby for another red hot drop from the emerging Parade label. This third outing is another surefire dance floor winner with some mad fusion sounds sure to amp up any crowd. 'Ready' is first up from the eponymous production team and it layers a Fugees vocal over a flurry of breakbeats and ragga vocals with a monstrous bassline powering it along. Carnage. 'Slippers' then flips the script completely mid-tune as a stoned dub gets spun back and flipped into another all-out raga jungle assault with an Underworld sample dropped in along the way.

Scorpius (6:58)
Crate Logic (5:46)
Review: Break digging king and all-round legend and scientist Paradox sees his 2013 classic getting a timely reissue. 'Scorpius' rattles and wriggles with stacks of space between each element. Harrowing yet soothing, it's a classic example Paradox living up to his name. Flip for 'Crate Logic' as Dev gets his funk on with a classic vocal shot and a series of breaks that he flips between with such ease and charm you'd swear he was in the same room with the drummer. Precision break science.

Winds Of Pleasure (8:20)
Review: Mid 90s atmospheric d&b veterans Pariah have been enjoying something of a re-focus since linking up with Okbron in 2019. The prolific archival label has since invited them back again in 2021 and now they return for round three, and while we don't have the exact provenance of the tracks in question on this record, it hardly matters when the quality is so high. 'Lexicon (Final Mix)' is an aqueous beauty of a track, dealing in sweeping vistas of pads and a light-touch, rolling beat with that classic Pariah finish to it. 'Winds Of Pleasure' is a breezy affair with gossamer-light synth lines and a subtly Balearic feel which is just crying out for a drop at a daytime session this summer.

The Horn - "Commander Klutz" (Pearl River Sound Mad version) (5:56)
Pearl River Sound - "MPC Groovy" (4:46)
Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

Birdfeed (6:27)
Review: Coco Bryce's Myor does the damage once again with new artist Pepe. Not a lot of information on Pepe is out there yet but these timeless beats give you more than enough to go on for now: 'Angels' writhes and weaves in a stark percussive ocean of ice before building up into a huge emotional wave in a similar way to Sully when he's jangling his foxiest materials. 'Birdfeed' is a little more sprightly and sun-kissed. Dreamier pads, lighter percussion but still bites hard when it needs to. Le phew!

The Riddle (Dexta remix) (6:57)
Review: Fizzy styles! Planet Wax co-founder Sicknote shakes up a new alias and ping off the lid, getting us all sticky with his breaks/hardcore fusion. Bone rattling business with breaks so heavy they carry the weight of a jungle vibe that would usually be much faster, it's a timeless weapon. Comes complete with a much faster, rave-minded jungle twist from his inter-Planet Wax-ary partner Dexta. Trust us, this one's gonna pop.

Antio Zoi (TGRCCC) (3:40)
Xypna (2:58)
KodS0520 Fyllorroo (3:03)
Review: Brighton imprint Furthur Electronix continues full steam ahead with its prolific output this year, and it's a big week for them. Alongside a great EP by Aussie Lou Karsh, we have this new one by Greek producer George Kontogiannidis aka Pera Sta Ori, who has racked up some impressive releases thus far on Musar, Brokntoys and Yellow Machines. As on previous works, the Sick Apian EP further explores Kontogiannidis' love of classic UK rave sounds. For instance A side cut 'Antio Zoi (TGRCCC)' utilises pitch shifted hardcore breaks underpinned by a dystopian electro atmosphere. Over on the flip, its '95 all over again on the breakneck junglist stepper 'Xypna' followed by the complex and hypnotic riddims of 'KodS0520 Fyllorroo'.

There Is No Love (5:24)
Zatoichi's Troubles (6:06)
Review: The latest drop in the Mysticisms Dubplate series welcomes back Persian for another round of reggae-inspired electronics. Once again the artist draws from across a spectrum of bass, digidub and breaks and also throws some jungle into the melting pot. Opener 'Survival Dub' is powered by classic breakbeats and great mic work that is sure to liven up any party. 'Smoke Mari' then slows it down to a fat dub with a vocal sample from a well-known smoker's anthem with plenty of mind-melting effects and stepping rhythms. On the flipside is 'There Is No Love' with a prime junglist drop and last of all comes 'Zatoichi's Troubles' which has devastating bass.

Review: Mediator Music lay down some reissue gold right here from enigmatic early 90s hardcore producer Persian Prince. With various releases going for over L150 on auction sites, this lands at just the right time and hits with crisp remastered charm. Three flavours, each the spot; 'Persian In AA Babylon' flips from jungle techno to big dubby ripples. 'Dub Called Lion' is here for the junglists with its tricked out vocal sample and scatty drum craft. Finally Mediator gets involved with his own take on 'Desertism'. Watch out for those vocals! They'll whisk you away and you'll never want to come home.

Love In The Jungle (5:49)

Ridge Racer Revolution (6:26)
No Fxxxing Soul (5:33)
Review: The brilliantly dark world of breakbeats and stripped back techno that Illian Tape call their own gets that bit richer with this new EP from Pessimist. It kicks off with some rugged jungle rides that are coloured by bird calls, wood block hits and booming bass before 'The Crawlers' is a flurry of snares and hi hats that tie your mind and body in knots. The excellent 'Ridge Racer Revolution' is a hardcore track that never lets up, with flailing hits and hundred mile and hour breaks all demanding you dance. The closer is a dystopian cut of unresolved loops ad frazzled bass that lurches back and forth and traps you right where it wants you. Thrilling stuff.

As with his previous output (especially on Green Bay Wax), the feels and aesthetic is fully foundation and wholly authentic with an analogue warmth and rich distortion in all the right places. Flavours for everyone, as always... 'Peggy' and 'Knockout Noels' for the dreamers and jazz weavers, 'Boomerang Ragga' and 'Dog & Bone' for those 3AM face melters. Heavyweight.

Gadget Crew (Skins Junglist Crew remix) (5:45)
Review: Constant Sound is one of the many labels Burnski aka Instinct is heading up right now and they are all as good as each other. This one focuses on house and tech sounds and welcomes Adam Pitts to the fam with three standouts. 'Gadget Crew' opens up and has a big, high-energy groove with plenty of oversized drum sounds and a retro melody paired with an intriguing soulful vocal. It has a dark garage tinge and is perfect for late-night action. 'Just This Once' is tough and physical, with warped and naughty bass and thwacking great hits irresistible to all. Last all comes a Skins Junglist Crew remix which is exactly that - a fine one for the jungle heads.

Review: We are gathered here today to celebrate the holy matrimony of our souls with the dancefloor. United by a 'Love So True' for reaching for the lasers, leaping around like a fool and grinning like a cat who hasn't just got the cream but owns an entire cream conglomerate... We shall never be parted. Certainly not as long as Prayer continues to make music like this. Stunning, undiluted rave sounds with all the twinkles and rushes we've inherited from our 90s ancestors, this vinyl version of his 2022 release contains a whole new testament of cuts. Joining the stompy 'Reflection', the dreamy 'More Than I Could', the uncut rave gospel of 'Take It Easy' and 'A Love So True' are four more belters such as the triumphant 'Love Fantasy' and the emotional 'No One left'. Elevating the original EP into more of a mini album, this is an outstanding dispatch from the Hooversound crew.

Review: With previous sermons on the likes of Black Acre and Hooversound, Prayer now clasps his hands on burgeoning Irish label Spheres. As always his love for the foundations shines through as we're taken on a whirlwind tour through jungle, hardcore and rave. 'Set Me Free' nods towards that 92/93 era of atmospheric hardcore and jungle which the likes of Jack Smooth was behind. 'Breakthrough' goes a bit deeper into the foundations with its slower tempo and four beat energy while 'Reteoric' closes the EP with pure euphoria. Oh Prayer, ye of plenty faith.

Review: Presha's debut EP RATS gets pulled apart and restructured by a crack squad of drum & bass talents on this fresh new red 12" from Samurai Music. Up first, 'The Spell' (Artilect remix) is a mix of heavy drum breaks and paranoid synth lines snaking about the background. Sam KDC's remix is another dark one with double time drums and drilling bass. The Untouchables remix keep it funky with their lolling loops and icy hi hats and the Last Life remix of 'Vedetta' goes for a textured, industrial vibe to make its mark in a blackened warehouse.

A renowned and hugely respected DJ, promoter and label owner for many years - pretty since the beginning as he's one of the people responsible for cultivating New Zealand's thriving D&B culture - it's only been the last few years since he entered the fray as a producer with his debut landing in 2021. Now making up for lost time he's hitting hard with some ludicrously dynamic and deadly cuts, this being his heaviest so far. Highlights include the high voltage sizzling Reese on 'Temple' and the skin melting pneumatic two steps on 'Raven'. Immense.

A collab with Subsidance founder Pressa, 'Dream Machine' is a rolling, break-heavy banger that's not shy of some proper ploughman 4x4. Tapping into the deepest of hardcore and acid house roots, it comes with a fittingly wide-armed range of remixers. Expanse (6:43)
Review: South London d&b brothers Sean and Mark Roberts created Probe-One after growing up on pirate stations, inspiring Sean to buy a deck and mess around himself. It goes that the siblings were frustrated at the drip release of d&b cuts and took the initiative themselves. 'Aether' and 'Expanse' clock in at just over 15 minutes combined, the long and winding ambient buildups giving way to ginormous breaks on 'Aether', or receding into a more atmospheric direction circa the Playstation 1 'IDM' era. The A-Side is for the breakbeat inclined, filled with intensity and volume against its ethereal synth waves. Side B is for the late-night Pulse FM listeners, the gentle percussion of dawn breaking - it's almost relaxing if such a thing were possible.

Review: The latest d&b sermon on Rupture is a collaboration from two devoted practitioners of the craft - Pugilist and Tamen. Holding it down for Western Australia's scene, they've linked up for a number of releases in recent times, turning heads with their drop on Dext which no doubt helped fan the flames for this knockout EP. There's expertly woven tension on mid-pressure 'Anda' and pin-prick threads of percussion punctuating 'Extract', while the textural sound design is just as subtle and refined. This is subtle but incredibly effective d&b of the highest order, as if you'd expect any less from a new release on Rupture.

Quietly powerful and with enough drive and soul to shatter windows like terrestrial sonar, the A-sider 'I'll Wait' is a masterfully crafted track, proving that, while many drum & bass tracks might technically fit the bill, it takes a much greater deal of extra care and attention to really perfect the style's pacing. B-sider 'Amara', meanwhile, is much looser, albeit no less trigger-happy on the vocal oneshots, and it comes with a entrancingly time-losing rhythm to boot.

Review: Swedish junglist Seba continues to dive into the back catalogue of his Secret Operations imprint and offer up EPs that feature remastered (and sometimes lightly remixed) versions of some of his classic cuts. On this second volume in the 'Secret Operations Reissue' series, he raids the catalogue of tracks he produced alongside Paradox in the mid 2000s. On side A you'll find a re-wire of their 2004 classic 'Wakeup Call', a punchy but deep, sub-heavy and atmospheric roller featuring fantastic lead vocals from legendary house vocalist Robert Owens. Over on the flip there's a chance to cop two cuts from 2005: the 'Apache'-sampling, rumbling sub-bass-propelled workout 'Fire Like This' and the punishing, jazz break-sporting sweatiness of 'The Dribbler'.

Review: Dive headfirst into a unique sonic underground experience as Hospital Records proudly unveils the highly anticipated debut album, Streets, Love & Other Stuff, from the dynamic duo P Money and Whiney. This groundbreaking collaboration is a perfect storm, fusing P Money's totemic grime background with Whiney's futuristic drum & bass style, as the pair continue to break boundaries and push the realms of dance music. The collaboration is an energetic one, combining the driving force of drum & bass with the urban lyrical situation of grime.

Review: Taking off where her debut album Spurn Point left us in 2014, musical innovator and serial boundary blurrer Shelley Parker returns with another long playing adventure. Her debut on Hypercolour, it's another immersive and very fluid experience that rattles through a whole range of flavours and forms. From the slower hardcore breakbeat style cuts like 'Glisten' and 'Cage' to more up tempo fires like the dubbed out 'Scrubs Lane' and the rampant sci-fi sizzler 'Coldstream' by way of raw, uncompromised experimentalism like 'Deluge' and 'The Faun', Wisteria is another exciting reflection of Shelley's wider work as an installation artist and sound performer. Highly recommended

Review: By 1997 Photek had already marked himself out as a wild card in the rapidly evolving d&b scene. He'd had three years to carve out some frankly dizzying displays of break editing wizardry and such was the innovation on display there just had to be an album coming. Modus Operandi smartly stepped to one side of the dancefloor, offering a smoky reflection on where jungle and d&b had got to, highlighting the compatibility between half-speed downtempo and breakneck drums and bringing inherent jazziness to the forefront of the beats, which avoided all the usual cliches. It's a masterpiece which hasn't dulled with time and here it's getting a heavyweight reissue across three slabs to ensure the loudest cut. All the better to blow your mind with, all over again.
