Calagad 13 - "Get Fresher" (2025 Remaster) (4:49)
5ZYL - "Vilnius Bass" (3:59)
Nachtwald - "Bring Back The Night" (4:15)
Spectrums Data Forces - "Darkness In My Head" (6:04)
EC13 - "Profundo" (Interludio) (0:49)
Wicked Wes - "X1000" (feat Space Frogs From Saturn) (5:48)
Review: Granada's Cosmic Tribe know the definition of "electro" in its broadest sense; their new Xtrictly Electro comp keeps the dystopian sound endemic to the genre's most present incarnation, but refuses to restrict itself to one tempo: the standard 130-ish that has sadly infected the otherwise genius genre as a necessity. An international splinter cell of spec-ops and mercenaries are recalled from retirement here, as we hear Calagad 13, Nachtwald, EC13 and many more mechanoid ilk lay down all manner of slick utilities, making up a morbid multi-tool. 5zyl brings further lasery Lithuanian steeze on 'Vilnius Bass', whilst Spectrums Data Forces betrays the existence of a sinister corporate entity, whose business model works towards the object of instilling 'Darkness In My Head' through giant, killer mozzy basses.

Review: Credit 00 continues to bring his own brand of deviant machine music to the forefront on Rat Life, this time aided and abetted by the mighty Wolf Muller. The two reportedly got into the studio in Dusseldorf in 2018 and took an omnivorous approach from chopping up breaks and sampling acoustic instruments to wringing as much funk as possible out of every synth in reach. While the tracks have been stewing for some time, now they're finally available on this release, sounding like a perfect summation of two distinct voices in the leftfield reaches of German club music and not like anything either has released before.

Review: This four-track release showcases some of the new electro sounds coming out of Detroit. Each track is distinctly different,
ranging from fast hard hitting beats with growling analog basslines to relaxed and glitchy. 'The Dirt Nap EP' offers up a new
flavour of Detroit electro, focusing on mixing the raw analog sounds of years past with the digital textures of modern electro.
DeadLock's first release is a compilation that sets the standard for what type of material the label will be releasing in the future.

Lnrdcroy - "Galaxio Salaxio" (7:13)
Waterpark - "Coastal Plus" (5:02)
Kennedy - "A Calling" (6:01)
Active Surplus - "Blue Beam" (5:57)
Review: The "Rhythms Of The Pacific" series hears Vancouver label Pacific Rhythms reimagine dance music to aid in vast ocean traversals. Returning with another 12" sampler of material - the tracks are slated for inclusion in a celebratory ten year anniversary comp later this year - we hear Lnrdcroy, Waterpark, Kennedy and Active Surplus bring upper-echelonic, chameleonic beats of the much-less-peggable variety. 'Galaxio Salaxio' moves between dark synth and watery dub, scarcely preparing us for the immersive chordal swims that ensue on 'Coastal Plus'. Finally, 'Blue Beam' incurs an underwater search for coves and water pockets, as jets of pressure escape through riser synths and pufferfish drums.

J Onstott - "Holualoa" (7:09)
Casper, My Daughter's Husband (6:13)
Wink - "Click" (6:36)
Louiv - "Filter Analysis" (6:04)
Review: InTheBagg is a fledgling Californian label carrying some elegant strains of stripped back and melodious club music from a loose community of friends. You might not be familiar with all the names, but they've got a particular style they're pushing which warrants the attention of any dedicated digger. If you're into that Nicolas Lutz-esque sound, where minimal, electro, braindance and breakbeat can fluidly blend into one, you're going to love this label. Release number two sees J Onstott opening proceedings up with a hazy, pulsing pad and crisp drum lines, while 'Casper, My Daughter's Husband' strikes a wobbly breakbeat house tone with plenty of reverb. Wink (Will Fatorre, not Josh) has a warm and twinkling take on tech house with a little mystery in its bones, and Louiv wraps things up with a subtly spooky floor worker entitled 'Filter Analysis'.

Review: The Brokn Toys label rarely misses the mark, with its' multi-artist EPs always a solid source of high-grade electro and related futurist electronics sounds. Predictably, Cold Readings, their latest compilation style affair, is another winner. The EP begins with a chunk of ultra-deep and icy electronica from Pera Sta Ori ('Passive Concealment') and ends with a deliciously raucous fusion of military-grade acid squelch and skittish, heavily edited jungle breaks (Scarlit Port's excellent 'Layla's Acid'); in between you'll find sleazy and chugging electronic paranoia from Shokh, some off-kilter acid-electro from Foreign Sequence, and some moody industrial breaks courtesy of Weith.

Review: Rain & White Transit Van kick off a new collaborative project with this first EP on Damo B's Emotec label, and what an inspired cosmic trip it is. 'Cliffdive' is a subtle opener with thinking cosmic leads and lazy mid-tempo groves sweeping you up and depositing you amongst the stars. 'Castaway' then puts crunchy drum breaks front and centre, waiting around the edges with mystic chords and melancholic emotions. There is high-speed electro slickness to 'Park' complete with flashes of acid and 'Sin' closes with a mix of muted synth modulations, warped metal surfaces and bumping electro beats.

Now the electro sword-swinger is back with an EP on Alienata's label Discos Atonicos, following recent appearances from Random XS, Ultrastation and Dez Williams amongst others. The vibe across Heretofore EP is tense, combative machine music with a peak time bent and plenty of future-shock dystopia radiated into its atmosphere. "Fear Tactics" is an especially potent track, but for a uniquely creepy mood try "ACRONYM" too. Darkside electro lovers take heed, this one has everything you need.

Their fourth release comes from the enigmatic Wachita China, known for their collaborations with Colombian EBM merchant Filmmaker. The D1e & Repeat EP features four booming cuts in the tradition of Detroit ghettotech and definitely NSFW if you know what we mean. This time on Vielspass sub label Prego out of Rennes, France. On the A side "The Wall" is a sublime piece of Italo disco with chunky synths and soaring arpeggios backing some seductive vocals. Review: Throughout his career, L.I.E.S. regular Beau Wanzer has proved adept at delivering decidedly fuzzy, lo-fi workouts that variously draw influence from industrial, EBM, techno and electro. He's at it again on "Do The Spider Shimmy", a tidy ten-inch containing six wonderfully wayward cuts. It's a noticeably stripped-back affair, with most of the cuts existing of little more than sparse but heavy basslines, occasional electronics, minimalist electro beats and the odd droning, stylized vocal. Highlights come thick and fast, from the gently spacey synth-scape "Never Look Back" and the buzzing simplicity of "You Can't Stand On Broken Shoes", to the lo-fi no wave pop of "Choice Curve" and the raw, laid back electro sleaze of the title track.

Review: Long lost electro from 1985, Matt Warren went on to make many influential house cuts on the legendary Trax imprint. "Rock The Nation" set the foundations: crisp, funky and full of drum machine creativity, it's the type of electro jam that will have you popping uncontrollably. Kenny Jason's remix takes us down a dubbier, more spaced out route. 29 years old and still as affective now, this has aged particularly well.

Review: Limited Network's Max Watts has cooked up an EP here that has been written with a very specific use in mind - party rocking and DJ battle deployment. it is fair to say these timeless cuts tap into universal feel-good vibes with opener 'Immortal Funk' a perfectly acrobatic and supple wedge of techno funk. 'Karma' has icy drum machine sounds and 80s electro-funk overtones with bright digital synths and a killer bassline all ensuring you cannot help but move. 'Network Not Found' gets more weird and textured for the afters - the writing acid lines and gurgling dub undercurrents kept down only by a sneaking and cosmic lead synth.

Review: Over the years, Ken Sumitani has released a decent amount of rather good music, primarily under the Stereociti and Mono Village aliases. This, though, marks his debut under a new alter ego: Waveguide. As debuts go, it's something of a triumph, too, serving up four essential cuts. There are two high-octane, electro-influenced offerings: the sun-bright, funk-fueled melodic bliss of "Lemma" and the heavier, raw-sounding "Tightrope", whose skittish beats are offset by some delightfully deep melodies and even deeper chords. You'll find some similarly smooth and hypnotic chords on the brilliant deep techno dubbiness of EP opener "Quod", while "Cubic Root" sees the Japanese producer successfully wrap restless synth loops around a mildly trippy, Motor City influenced rhythm track.

It features former Aquanauts man Tyree Stinson and plenty of aqueous synth lines and watery motifs that take you deep into an oceanic world. Making Friends With The Invader (9:21)
Review: Given his recent obsession with shoegaze-influenced psychedelic disco chug, it's easy to forget that Andrew Weatherall is capable of crafting seriously good electro. Of course, his take on electro is far from purist. "Blue Bullet", the title track from the veteran DJ/producer's second Byrd Out 12", features spacey, ricocheting machine drums and deep space electronics, but is powered by a typically fuzzy, restless dub disco bassline. Weatherall's love of dub soundystem culture comes to the fore on flipside "Making Friends With The Invader", where discordant, psychedelic influenced guitars rise above delay-laden drum machine hits and a suitably heavyweight bassline.

The first three well received EPs have laid out a fine sonic vision that continues with this new various artists offering featuring some long established names. Wee DJs' 'Fish Crisps' opens with a crunchy groove and doom-laden bass swinging down low. Review: Fresh UK sounds define Space Tours inaugural release. Both Mitch Wellings and Harry Wills represent a new wave of exciting artists, prepared to take influence from multiple genres to create unique, futuristic, ultra-effective dance floor weaponry.

UK Garage drum programming, electro zaps and minimal vocal stabs can be found hovering over a thick multi-layered acid bass squelch on A1, 'UK Hun'. Harry Wills takes the remix into a deeper, 4/4 driven affair, seasoned delightfully with melodic acid licks and some tidy breakbeat action.

The B side opens with the heavy hitting 'Cold Beats', distinctly primed to create electric scenes from its rubbery bass lines and wild sound palette.

Last but by no means least, 'Space Baguette' soundscapes an epic journey through the stars. Combining classy, deep chords, scintillating synth line goodness and occasional bursts of rude bassline gratification. This one's sure to gain galaxy wide attention from those in the know.

Happily, the Deweale brothers are here to help, delivering two scorching Soulwax rubs of 'Two Late Now' from the Isle of Wight twosome's much-loved debut album. In typical Soulwax fashion, the resultant vocal and instrumental versions are driving, energy-packed and analogue rich, with metallic melodies, raw bleeps and fizzing synth sounds riding a thrusting, all-action sequenced bassline and sweaty, jacking electro-house beats. Review: Frustratingly, I-F's Viewlexx label is keeping tight-lipped about this rather fine EP. They've offered no details of the artist behind the project - or anything else for that matter - and their promotional spiel consists of one line in Latin. What we can tell you is that it's a suitably dystopian affair, with the mystery producer launching with a chunk of industrial-tinged experimental electronica (the decidedly fuzzy "Initiation"), before joining the dots between Cabaret Voltaire and Drexciya on the decaying dancefloor electro pomp of "Flight From Reason". Some will detect a nod towards Test Department on "Refuse Resist" and "Instrument of Power". Elsewhere, there's a looser and more alien feel to "Circle of Trust", while closer "The Wheel of Rituals" is deliciously dark and hypnotic.

Seven Nation Army (The Glitch Mob remix) (4:12)
Review: 'Seven Nation Army' was one of The White Stripes' most unforgettable tracks. Forming part of their 2003 album, Elephant, which in sales terms was the one that catapulted Jack and Meg White into the global rock and roll Premier League. It's a track that is so individualistic even the idea of covering it seems a little intimidating.

Pity the remixers asked to take on this monument of gritty, stomping guitar genius, then. Anyone who was around at the time when it first hit the charts as a single will likely remember a host of pretty dire mash-ups, from breakbeat to cheap run of the mill house, littering the shelves of record stores, staff too embarrassed to really recommend. Skip forward eight years and finally there's a decent one, with Glitch Mob going for the jugular with a poised dubstep-leaning effort that works with, rather than against, the original songwriting.

This outing for Brokntoys explores similar territory, with McPike utilizing a range of vintage machines and synthesizers on a quartet of spacey, melodious, intelligent techno influenced cuts. The intergalactic electro of "Buckley's Escape" impresses via shimmering electronics, snappy beats and a spine-tingling extended breakdown, while "Digital Detox" is as melodious, sweet and picturesque as you'd expect. That was an original EP which now gets revisited and remixed for the label's second release. Electro don Cignol gets first with a plenty of rueful pad work and leggy drums. It was also featured in Dave Clarke's seminal 1998 'Electro Boogie' mix release. This long-overdue reissue includes the remastered original mix, as well as two previously unreleased versions - the 'Alt Mix' and 'Bonus Beats'. All versions of the track portrary a hollowed-out, leaden vision of the alt-future and command a fantastic use of reverb and space, as if the music were being blasted through a cybernetic bullhorn; everything sounds impressively analog, but the tracks all escape the common electro pratfall of requiring everything to sound front-and-centre.

The Hook-Up (6:30)
Dark T (7:52)
Pushback (6:41)
Submission (7:21)
Review: Better-known in the Motor City as DJ Gusto, August Williams makes his bow on Detroit's original techno imprint, Juan Atkins' much-loved Metroplex. He first offers up 'The Hook Up', a relaxed electro workout marked out by hip-hop tempo beats, sparkling synthesiser arpeggio lines and gorgeous electronic melodies, before opting for a more hypnotic, dark, clandestine and minimalistic techno sound on superb machine jam 'Dark T'. Williams successfully blurs the boundaries between late-night deep house and sci-fi techno on 'Pushback', while 'Submission' pairs a vintage Motor City techno style groove with discordant, mind-mangling motifs.

Review: UK electro hero Dez Williams follows up great recent releases on Bedouin, Earwiggle and his own Electronik Religion imprint with this stunner on Amsterdam based Shipwrec. It's buzzing analogue techno with a pinch of soul on "Balancing Act" but those expecting his darkside, Drexciyan derived electro needn't worry as "Reach The Void" surely proves. "Slave Driver" and "Dyre Strayt" are the kind of majestic and tunnelling techno workouts that fans of Jeff Mills' Axis would approve of. Things end in style with the epic acid techno stomper that is "Death Threat". Nice to see Williams back in top form.

Acidbanger (7:38)
Hornet Tea (6:33)
Offonone (5:07)
Review: Dez Williams. Perhaps the most under-rated UK techno and electro producer of the last fifteen years. While many associate him with the latest wave of house, techno and bass, Williams has actually been putting out banging, face-melting acid and techno since the early 2000s, and his Elektronik Religion label has invariably been a safe spot for quality warehouse music with an industrial edge. This new hand-stamped 12" for Killekill's freshly launched VANTA SERIES is all about the 303 bleeps: the aptly named "Acidbanger" does exactly what it says on the tin, ""Hornet Tea" is a loose and bubbly acid experiment that dissolved into pure oblivion, whereas "Offonone" reduces the acid down to a subtle swarm beneath a jarring sway of synth keys and ominous sonics. Powerful gear - go easy.

Acid Bath (Ekman R303ck remix)
Silvaphish (Bintus remix)
Review: The secretive Bedouin label may only be three (left of field) records old but it's making a name for releasing a mean assortment of threatening electronic music. This time they call upon Elektronik Religion label founder Dez Williams to provide some dirty, 808 thumping electro. "Acid Bath" as you can imagine gurgles with a seething 303 bassline and trademark snapping snares, while "Silvaphish" is melodic, slightly eastern in tonality, and once again 303 driven. The remixes here are well curated with Dutch producer Ekman turning in some more of his usual deranged acid and sewer techno for a remix of "Acid Bath" while an always beat down Bintus adds gabba-esque kick drums to his remake of "Silvaphish".

Dez Williams - "All That Remains"

Biepang - "A Silhouette For Every Surface"
DJ Glow - "Hardware Encryption"
Scape One - "Alternate Pathways"
Mircrothol - "Eigenstate Modulator"
Review: The inaugural edition of the TRUST XV trilogy released back in June was a fine opening gambit from DJ Glow's long running TRUST label, with some electro from Clatterbox, VC-118A, and Morphology's Matti Turunen every bit as epically futuristic as the artwork. It's fair to say Glow has pulled out the big guns for this second edition of TRUST XV, with DJ Stingray Dez Williams and Scape One amongst the contributors. Both Williams and Stingray respectively demonstrate the abstract lengths you can take the genre with the strangely alluring "All That Remains" and lopsided lo fi banger "Infrastructure Renewal". From here Biepang and DJ Glow offer up more traditional electro cuts with the former's "A Silhouette For Every Surface" quite beautiful. Scape One and Microthol add a degree of darkness to proceedings with the two tracks that round out the compilation.

Cap Snatching (5:26)
Review: Following on from Robert James' Revenge Of The Wasp 12" and a classy VA release, Body Movement is back with a new drop from Harry Wills. Wills has been building up a name for himself across a slew of releases on labels like Holding Hands, 2X, Lemak and Subsequent, and his sound is accomplished and engaging on this fresh batch of tracks. 'Waiting For Rob' is a warm and shimmering track that splits the difference between sharp tech house and fluttering melodic electro, which Tim Schlockermann then remixes into a low slung, broken beat mood that leans on the bass. 'Vimto Paradox' takes things into moodier territory with a broad sweep of keys spelling out an eerie mood around a minimal beat. 'Cap Snatching' finishes the EP off with a more overtly electro construction marked out with snappy acid flecks and a crisp 808-esque beat.

Review: Fresh from delivering two killer cuts on a split release with pal Jack Michael on Orbital London, former Osman artist Harry Wills pops up on LEMAK. There's plenty to admire throughout, from the subtle deep garage influences, bleeping melodies and rolling tech-house grooves of opener "Quench", to the shuffling deep electro pulse of ghostly closing cut "Grebe". By far away the most arresting cut on the EP, "Capri Swung", is sandwiched between the two. This sees him continue to develop his trademark garage-influenced tech-house sound by wrapping glitchy electronics and jammed-out organ chords around a bonkers, Luke Vibert style bassline and swinging two-step drums.

Jared Wilson - "Fr Face" (Half & Half mix)

Luc Marianni - "Six Synthetic Suites" (Nukubus remix)
Review: New Parisian label Dernier Des Disquaires launches in style with the first edition of a series of EPs that aim to "bridge the gap between French underground culture and relevant contemporary dancefloors", with reworkings of reclusive 1980s composer Luc Marianni from contributors based in Detroit, Glasgow and Rotterdam. 7777 and Skudge regular Jared Wilson opens proceedings on Le Rire EP with the thrilling "Fr. Face (Half And Half Mix)", a rhythmically shifting production that starts on a dubstep slant before mutating into deviant acid techno blessed with juke leaning intentions. This couldn't be any further removed from "Oranges & Lemons", a gauzy blend of head nod beat dynamism, slick edits and woozified industrial textures from Dam Mantle that pays homage to Marianni's "Voyage vers l'Harmonie". Perhaps best of the lot is the 11 minute Nukubus remix of "Six Synthetic Suites" that sounds like the cosmiche tropes of Neu! being dragged down the rabbit hole of industrial techno.

Review: It would be fair to say that Super Hexagon is Leeds' main night when it comes to the darker side of house and electro. Sure, the music is played week in and week out on plenty of sound systems, but this crew like to focus on those sounds exclusively... and they know just how to deliver the goods! They've snatched up UK electro producer, J.Wiltshere, who we've come to recognise as an impressive new talent on the streets thanks to a pair of releases for the mighty Hypercolour. SH003 is the third instalment of the imprint, and "Large Mammals" gives the EP a worthy kick-start thanks to a raucous blend of gunshot percussion and metallic bass knots, which is further explored on the vicious bumps of the acid-ridden "Existential Energy". "DX Hell/HVN" takes a more laid back approach to the electro bruisings, coming through with a blissful techno groove filled with raw percussion patterns, while "No More Knives" surprisingly meanders in an ambient zone, bereft of any beats at all but primed with plenty of contained energy from the same industrial space as its siblings.

Review: Ralph Lawson's legendary Leeds-based label 20/20 Vision is in the middle of celebrating 30 years in the game. Part of that now extends to this reissue of a record that played a huge part in establishing the imprint back in the day. It comes from the co-founders' production alias Wolf n Flow and though it was recorded more than 20 years ago, this record still bangs. 'Messin' With My Mind' is a perfect mix of squelchy tech and vocal loveliness that calls to mind early Fresh & Low. The Oliver.r dub is more sleek and blissed out and two Electric Press remixes close out with some late-night heft.

Review: Following marvelous turns from the likes of Perseus Traxx and Stephen Lopkin, Distant Worlds returns with this heavy slice of emotional synthwave from a strong cast of characters. Tagwell Woods heads up the pack with some lingering, poignant leads and tasteful 303 wriggles, before Castel drops some seriously wiggy trance-out sounds into the mix (all still very much on the sensitive tip, of course). Mihail P returns to Distant Worlds to open up the B-side with a slow, break fuelled funk and soul-stirring melancholy, before the always-excellent HOLOVR completes the set with a distinctive and delicate romp through finely sculpted electronica.

Review: The legendary German producer behind such mythical techno names like Acid Jesus and Alter Ego delivers an eclectic exploration of electro and acid with 'Pan Sonic Youth'. This release shows his ability to create genre-bending soundscapes and analogue textures, each of the four mixes offering a unique perspective on the original. Side-1 starts with the acid version which is a deep, addictive dive into heavily drenched acid sounds. Harnessing the spirit of 80s electro, its bold, immersive energy demands attention. The original version follows, delivering strong electro rhythms and a sharp, immediate impact. Both versions are sure to wow any listener. Side-2 opens with the drone version, where heavily processed analogue tones create a dense, experimental atmosphere. Jorn's 'Thee Church Ov Acid House Balearic Mix' reimagines the track as a chill-out anthem, blending beachy vibes and lounge influences while retaining the original's spirit. Closing the release, the 'Sampledica Dub' deconstructs the original into abstract fragments, offering a more avant-garde, interpretive take. Wuttke's ability to create so many different versions of one track is truly amazing in itself, and add the extra demension that a true veteran brings and you have one unmissable piece of vinyl.

Review: Owen Jay's Batti Batti label has carried a great selection of various artists releases throughout its back catalogue, and the tradition continues with this latest missive. The Palette EP kicks off with the ever-rising talents of Jayson Wynters, who plies a seductive strain of deep house on "Sherella's Kiss" that melts perfectly into the blissful, twinkling keys and gossamer percussion of Duccio's "Absurdation". Kiddmisha leads in on the B side with the sprightly electro of "Healing" before Weakmassive rounds things off with the mellow acid of "Sjhue," which matches a nagging 303 with sumptuous keys for a spine-tingling conclusion to a fantastic 12".

He had always said the long player would be his legacy and that turned out to be all too true. With the support of Wibo's family, U-TRAX is doing what is right and putting out the album in his honour. When Humans Ruled The Earth is a complete and coherent electro overview across 11 visceral tracks. There are acid lacerations, jacked-up cyborg bangers and elastic drum workouts wired up with scintillating synths.

Review: Strut's recent foray into the world of industrial, EBM and new-wave with Trevor Jackson's superb Metal Dance compilation (the follow-up to which is due in September) has clearly given them a passion for the subject. Here, they allow Walls guitarist/producer Alessio Natalizia to curate a two-disc wander through Italy's hitherto under-explored 1980s new wave scene. It's a bit of an eye-opener, if truth be told, full of cold-wave, synth-wave and electronic oddities. Given the quality of the material, you don't have to look far for gems; check, for example, the discordant, dubwise oddness of 2+2=5's "Jacho's Story", the droning synths and backwards tape loops of L'Ultimo Arcano's bizarre "1984-85" and the wide-eyed bliss of ATROX's "Against The Odds". And that's just for starters. Stunning stuff, as usual.

Review: Vibes New & Rare Music 2 reaches it's conclusion here as Rush Hour drop the second and final double vinyl helping of the Rick Wilhite curated compilation with a suitably high profile cast of contributors involved. If you checked Part One which dropped earlier this year, you'll know Wilhite has expanded the remit to include producers from Chicago and New York - and if you didn't check it what's wrong with you! Any compilation that starts with an exclusive cut from Moodymann is gonna be good, and the dusty, disjointed "Momma" sets the tone quality wise for what follows. The Godson himself delivers a thunderous, stripped back take on "A Matter of Honour" by Sean Tate and this dukes it out with the apocalyptic electro of DJ Stingray and the rugged beatdown of Orlando Voorn as our favourites from this great collection.
