Review: Aveilut is the debut full-length from black metal experimentalists, Scarcity. A collaborative microtonal bedlam in a similar vein to the likes of Jute Gyte and Krallice, the duo of multi-instrumentalist Brendon Randall-Myers and vocalist Doug Moore (Pyrrhon), craft an esoteric myriad of sonics within their tortured soundscapes. One ever-shifting piece, separated into five movements, unpacking feelings of isolation, grief, depression and loneliness. Inspired by the passing of close friends, as well as the collective claustrophobia caused by the pandemic, the warring of microtonal cacophony and lush hues of combative, defensive peace, make for a truly challenging, cathartic and utterly rewarding spectacle.
