Pauk - "Shiawasena Fukushu" (4:24)
Perdi Rominger - "Empty Spot" (8:20)
Promising/Youngster - "Arbey" (5:32)
Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

Sarufaromeo & Papaverhof - "Acid Nihonshu" (5:18)
G303 - "Live Long & Prosper" (5:07)
Paul Renard - "SO36" (5:23)
Review: Acid Sessions Vol. 3 is another white-knuckle journey into the world of acid with five top talents in the field all pushing their own limits. Acidulant opens with "Serpentacid' featuring hypnotic 303 grooves and relentless energy, then Sarufaromeo & Papaverhof deliver 'Acid Nihonshu' which blends atmospheric depth with chaotic acid vibes. G303 takes you beyond with 'Live Long and Prosper,' an interstellar anthem filled with cosmic acid and resonant grooves. Paul Renard closes with 'SO36' which is all about the fat rhythms and powerful dancefloor drive. Long live acid is what we say.

Juaan - "Talt" (5:51)
Ramez - "Devil Selectro" (5:39)
Plazeg - "German Physicist" (6:03)
Review: Poggio and Gabriel Belabbas' cheeky Positive Future label is back once again to bring some playful mischief to the contemporary electro-techno scene. This split release showcases some of the artists orbiting the label, kicking off in spooky style with Aline Umber's 'Hypnotized', which features a pitched down vocal from Poggio no less. Juaan's 'Talt' is equally steeped in B-movie freakery and tongue-in-cheek samples, while Ramez takes things deeper on bass-toting dirtbag joint 'Devil Selectro'. Plazeg finishes the record off with the scattershot bleep feast 'German Physicist', which has a whale of a time plying its own line in gleefully macabre club music.

Ancient Methods - "Cradle The True Side Of Reality" (6:50)
OTHR - "Damage Your Pain" (5:47)
Phase Fatale - "Cursing Losses" (5:20)
Roman - "Break The Matrix" (5:51)
Review: The KHIDI label kicks off with a stern statement of intent from a batch of blackened souls in the techno domain. First up is Ancient Methods, who marches forth with the militant brutalism of "Cradle The True Side Of Reality" before OTHR turns in some cinematic EBM-flavoured intensity with "Damage Your Pain". Berlin-based Berghain warrior Phase Fatale turns up on the B-side with the hard thrum of "Cursing Losses", before Roman delivers the finishing blow with the mean-spirited surge of "Break The Matrix". This is maximalist techno with an industrial bite just begging to be heard clanging around darkened cathedrals of endless night.

Space Culture Vol 1
Cat: BLIQ 06. Rel: 14 Jan 13
Audio Atlas - "Finland"
Pietro Tangianu - "Frabaer"
Matti Turunen - "Nocturne"
Review: For their sixth release, deep house doyens Bliq present something a little different in the form of Space Culture Volume 1, the label's first compilation 12". The A-side is given over to the dub techno of Audio Atlas, whose track "Finland" is a suitably chilly excursion into mid-tempo 4/4, its steady pulse and icy chords seemingly inspired by a wintry Scandinavian forest at dusk. On the flip, Pietro Tangianu's "Frabaer" is a similarly laid back production, but one that thaws things slightly with its warmer, housier chords, and swung rhythm though its subs are as deep as the A-side. Finally, Matti Turunen's "Nocturne" offers something entirely different, a sparse electro track whose minimal 808 rhythms and thick bass are contrasted with melodic pads and brittle diamond-like textures.

Aux 88 - "Phantom Power" (7:54)
Blak Tony - "Holla Holla" (3:32)
Posatronix - "Pure Techno Sound" (5:50)
DJ K-1 - "Erase The Time" (6:36)
Review: From the minds of Direct Beat and Detroit Bass Classics, comes the first initial compilation of electro/techno heat. "Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1" presents 4 proven dance floor dope and record crate staples that provide the hungry ears of masses the groove to move. A Side features two sure-fire steppers - a rare AUX 88 voyage entitled "Phantom Power" and Blak Tony's tempo-pushing "Holla Holla" finally see the light of day on this wax collectable, giving praise to Motor City footwork culture. On the flip, DJ K-1's "Erase The Time" rocked the airwaves and global clubs with its signature thumping style laced beneath alien-like melody and repetitive vocal structure while Posatronix's mutant-rhythm mantra, "Pure Techno Sound" pulls the weight of Detroit's street dance roots down to the origin of how to boogie in space. This collection of re-issued jams and new explorations is the must-have for the electro/techno & bass aficionado.

Review: Bambounou and Priori's latest collaboration offers a tantalising blend of techy playfulness and hypnotic club energy. The pair deliver crisp textures that meet the driving momentum of their electro-influenced sound design, evoking a sense of cerebral euphoria. 'Crush' expertly balances the squelchy, ice-cold synths of electro with the deep propulsion of acid house, while also drawing upon the hypnotic atmosphere of techno. The result is a carefully crafted journey through nocturnal body movement, full of rhythm and intrigue. Mixed at Jump Source Studios, the production is sleek and precise, with each track unfolding like a love letter, effortlessly evolving with each pulse.

Boven De Wet (4:31)
Review: Earlier this year, Palmbomen II joined forces with the previously unheralded Betonkust to deliver a cracking cassette of lo-fi IDM and leftfield house experiments on 1080p. Here the duo pairs up again to deliver their debut collaborative 12" on Pinkman. It explores similar sonic territory, with the six tracks variously touching on dark, soundtrack-style analogue ambience ("Donkerblauwe Auto's"), off-kilter acid ("N401"), vintage EBM (the thoroughly druggy motifs, creepy melodies and ricocheting percussion hits of "Suite 100"), blissful early 90s IDM ("Zwaluw"), and eccentric, electro-influenced house ("Boven De Wet"). Throughout, the Dutch twosome strikes a fine balance between dancefloor chops, and inspiring home listener fodder.

The Night (7:37)
Review: Paris label Positive Future release positive music for positive people, but that doesn't hold them back a bit from concept-releasing V/As about future dystopias! "Once upon a time in a dystopian future", so the liners go, "humans are winning the battle against a zombie invasion" by fighting back, somehow, with their vinyl records (it's not stated explicitly, but we presume this means by playing them). "To defeat them forever and avoid a wicked future, DJs will have to join forces for a big party with every human still left standing." Of course, before the zombie plague, as far as sonic warfare went, military-grade sound design had been sanctioned for government use only, and the recording industries had precious little involvement. That all changes with producers Aline Brooklyn, Krol, Briki, Samuel Jabba and P.O., each of whom have reproduced and mass marketed their very own subsonic, antiviral weapon, of which there are four classes: A1, A2, B1 and B2. We choose B2, 'The Night', an instrument whose unsettling, garbled vocals and spine-tingling melodies make for, in our view, the best sonic zombie-away spray.

Charlou - "Last Dance" (6:40)
Charlou - "Controlled Madness" (4:39)
Pleonexia - "Leave" (2:05)
Pleonexia - "In The Shadow" (7:24)
Review: Paris label Chandelle (a Mahres sublabel) flew across the pond to master their latest EP from Charlou in London. Indeed, the gammy-fingered English touch could be said to be exactly what's needed for an industrial / new beat of such staggeringly wicked, girdered proportions. 'Unfinished Sorrow' is the producer's latest and fourth EP, and his first to reach the Chandelle imprint after a series of stopoffs with the likes of 22Recordings, Flight Mode and his very own S.A.C.S.. Here it's 'Controlled Madness' and 'In The Shadow' that impress the most as big new beat tunes go, their smeary double-claps, belting era-specific vocals and roughly resampled drawn-in MIDI beats, all providing ample glue to gestaltify two dance tracks best suited for vampiric dancefloors.

Review: Bill Converse and Patricia land on Acid Test with more of their dynamic beat machine workouts in the form of this '380/750' EP which merges their distinct styles into an introspective, dancefloor-driven four-track workout. Recorded live at Ravitz's Brooklyn studio in just two days, the EP features raw, unedited performances that show off the duo's intuitive rhythm-making skills while drawing on Converse's 90s Michigan rave roots and Ravitz's Chicago upbringing. The immersive, bubbly, rubbery sounds are perfect blends of body music and heady synth work and cannot fail to take you deep.

Palms Trax - "Honey Lemongina" (4:45)
Interstellar Funk - "EFX Harmonix" (6:43)
Review: For the fourth volume in their tenth anniversary series, Dekmantel has decided to go all-out electro. Wisely, they've recruited scene legend the Egyptian Lover to kick things off. His "This That Old Skool" is an unashamed romp through early '80s nostalgia, with the eccentric producer peppering a sturdy TR-808 beat pattern with exotic synth lines, "Tour De France"-style heavy breathing and raw vocoder vocals. Syracuse and Epsilove wrap their skittish electro beats in chiming melodies, trippy acid lines and dreamy vocal snatches ("Scubatomic Love"), while Palms Trax necks a fistful of anti-depressants and delivers the pure endorphin rush that is the melodious and spacey "Honey Lemongina". Finally, fast-rising producer Interstellar Funk offers up a lesson in melodious electro/techno fusion on the standout "EFX Harmonix".

Review: Artwork of the week goes to this Solar One 12", with the label enlisting Lowlands don Mehdi Rouchiche to work his Godspill magic on the collective talents of Helena Hauff, Perseus Traxx, The Exaltics, Drvg Cvltre and Ekman. Perseus Traxx's moustache is quite something! These artists join forces for the Signs Of Decay 12", a powerful collective statement on the desiccation some "hard and dirty acid tracks" can do to a dancefloor. Don't come here looking for any lofty concepts, this is just five of the best banging their boxes in the name of all that is grotty and lysergic. Fans of Hauff's Panzerkreuz material will be delighted with the demonic, red lining sounds of her contribution "Culmination Of Frustration."

Review: DJ Glow's long running TRUST label returns with the closing installment of its TRUST XV trilogy of releases which once again canvasses the finest names currently making electro music. Closing contributions come from The Exaltics, Plant43, Adapta, and Epy X Micromega and this is a must have 12" for any fans of the genre. Solar One man The Exaltics is first up, laying down some dank sonic dystopia in the shape of "Flexible Horizons" which offers a nice contrast the purist electro styles of "Infected Biome" by Plant43. There's a nice crunchy feel to Adapta's bass heavy contribution "Black Orpheus", whilst "Halcyon Days" from Epy X Micromega ends a fine record on a contemplative note.

Review: The Flesh or Die label launches with a stark statement of intent from five electro innovators operating right at the sharp end. Flotation Aid takes charge to start off with and offers a sound that is both busy and densely packed with sound and texture, but also serene and calming thanks to the background synth glow. Vlaysin's 'Open Your Mind' is something of a nightmarish sound which will have you on edge throughout and Sestrica then brings some more classic electro tropes to 'Ssense' with its snappy drums and celestial melodies. Proxyan & Lewski's 'Cereology' shuts down with some wonky wonderfulness.

Review: Dutch label 030303 is, unsurprisingly given the name, all about acid sounds in various different contexts. This time out they line up four artists and set them free with their Rolands. Freek Fabricius opens up with a portal to another dimension where bight harmonies and shattered melodies, computer game sound effects and bust bass all happily coexist. Geel Acidvarken's 'Birdhood Acid' is a more slow and meandering acid meditation. Bohm gets busy on a nice electro trip and Piepiep's 'System 100' is a nice tripped out wander through downbeat electro bliss.

Perfume Advert - "Dyn Horizontal Multiburst"
Review: Cong Burn is a new label that features a range of producers plying a more interesting twist on the standard deep house formula. Take opening case in point Haddon, who uses oodles of processing to create a slippery, shifting tripper out of "Not Coming To The Club" and instantly stepping aside from the run of the mill milieu. Howes then pops up with the snaking, ultra-deep electro abstractions of "Untitled". L Pearson is in a particularly cheeky mood with the scratchy micro-sampling fun of "PSR1170", calling to mind the crafty chops of Paradroid et al, and then Perfume Advert book end the release with some beautifully horizontal deep house for the subliminally minded to revel in.

Rinaldo Makaj - "Ethereal" (5:30)
Review: Yay Recordings closes out another solid 12 months with a various artists' EP that showcases right where the label is at. Heavy Mental kicks off with 'Dabro', a colourful and loopy house jaunt for sunny days. Twowi's 'Metaverse' takes off to the cosmos on lithe electro rhythms with ice-cold beats and widescreen pads. Parchi Pubblici & Lucretio's 'Aladdin Sane' brings some wonky deep tech vibes with of-balance drums and muffled spoken words and Rinaldo Makaj closes down with a fresh party sound perfect for cosy floors. There's plenty of variety here, which makes this a great addition to your bag.

Pagenty - "What's Dat Called Again" (4:26)
Victor Benjamin - "The State Of Mind" (6:07)
Review: Electrik Pulse is the first release from French label Duarte and it features a lineup of talented French producers who come from various local underground scenes in Paris, Marseille and Corsica. On the A-side, Human Aventura, making his second vinyl appearance, delivers the raw, jacked house of 'Local Warming' while Corsican producer P.O brings some wiry, twitchy tech house. On the B-side, Victor Benjamin and Pagenty debut and add a fresh and compelling edge to the compilation as they blend new and classic sounds with captivating melodies and rhythms. All four are useful cuts that span a wide spectrum so will prove a useful one to have in the record bag.

Syrte - "Tardigrade Pomona" (5:11)
Francois Dillinger - "Swordholde" (5:18)
Review: EC Underground is back with more inquisitors of low-end heavy sounds on Bass Scene Investigation vol 1 and again digs deep into the worlds of electro, techno, breakbeat and IDM. The compilation kicks off with the skittish percussive patterns of Illektrolab's 'Making Heads Dip', then heads into moody ground with ADJ, Pablo Funk brings some menacing synth work and Errorbeauty gets all weird and trippy with some mad electronics. Francois Dillinger offers a dystopian electro sound full of irresistibly jacked-up drums. A fine investigation indeed.

Gimmik - "Omnicron Acid" (Acid mix) (5:30)
Brian Kage - "City Of Tomorrow" (6:50)
Pop Out & Play - "Corrosive Tongue" (7:47)
Review: The Fourier Transform label outlay an arresting sonic journey on their debut release, bringing together breakbeat, ambient IDM, ambient techno, and prog house under a single banner. Opening with Inkipak's 'Betwixt', we're met with sonorous low-mid square waves and machine-gun-fire breaks, recalling the breathtaking, verging on apocalyptic expanse of a warehouse rave turned laser light show turned warzone. We break from this warring weir with 'Omnicron Acid' and 'City Of Tomorrow' by Gimmik and Brian Kage respectively, which lowers the intensity and sonic flow via spacious atmospheres and dudding percussive pops. Finally, the perfect fusion of the former two moods is achieved on 'Corrosive Tongue', the lead synth on which sounds like just that.
