Review: Frankfurt's Kuyateh beams into the Minibarian universe with a playful but impactful new EP that brims with cosmic charm. The tunes here are all rooted in wobbly basslines and mischievous minimal grooves and come with a humid late-night funk that is equal parts interstellar and intimate. This welcome debut on Minibar fits in with the label's off-kilter, soulful minimal sound and starts with the chunky, marching drums of 'Crosstown' then takes in the mode bubbly 'Cloudwalking' which is underpinned with a meaning low end and 'Consistency' then brings more celestial melody and 'Terazza' works up a nice shuffling groove with plenty of swagger.

Newly remastered for 2024, this edition includes the original version as well as a refreshed Chuck Phulasole remix and two dynamic new takes from Italian producer St. David, who brings his vintage-inspired style in all its glory. He delivers a playful 'Big Tool Mix' with vocal flips and infectious grooves alongside a funkier 'Drum-Tool Dub' packed with sharp guitar licks. The original's hypnotic basslines and soulful vocal hook still shine, while Phulasole's deeper remix adds rich keys and Moog warmth. Lovely stuff.

Review: 'Devant Le Miroir' ('In Front Of The Mirror') kicks off an egoistically inclined four-track injection of glassy house music from Achse Germany. It's a wavy opening statement from the Berlin native Lcaise, whose return to vinyl releasing is a real treat, long following 2009's 'Gestosis'. Sharing two out of four grooves on the record, Lcaise commissions Silat Beksi to texturise his opening specular spectacular; Beksi convects the A1's feelin' itself with further catoptric phasings and frazzler textures. The other side is taken up by Polish newcomer Erdal Mauff, with 'Afterthought Sines' puling the best it can get from a widescreen mix made up of ultra-loud highs and vivid stabs, and Fedo producing a burblier, alien spaceship retake.

Review: Acid tests, in a scientific context, refer to metallurgic processes whereby the chemical composition of metals are analysed in order to determine their makeup. We can't place exactly when the term was co-opted by artists of the acid techno movement, but we can certainly attest to this acid test's besting of several other lesser litmuses in the micro-genre. ITWS have found a gem in Ilario Liburni, a mainstay of the Italian audio-alchemic underground: 'I Don't Tip' and 'The Acid Test' provide twin minimal acid, with psychedelic ad-libs sure to make even Timothy Leary blush, while isotopes from TIJN and The Wizzard heighten the base compounds' corrosive intensities. A well assayed assault on the ears, well suited for those hazarding another lysergic dabble.

Review: Sometime Trauma Tribe and Spy vs Spy member Christian "Chris" Lloris is now two decades into his production career, though remarkably it has been 12 years since he last released a solo EP on vinyl. 'Echo Ridge', which also marks his debut on Lisbon label Satya, is therefore a long-awaited return to wax. He begins in confident mood with 'Ministrone', a fine fusion of lolloping tech-house grooves, spacey electronics and deep house flourishes, before delivering a chunkier and more bass-heavy slab of trippy tech-house with oddball samples aplenty ('Echo Ridge'). Over on side B, 'Mod Squad' is smooth, squelchy, quietly funky and delightfully off-kilter, while 'Snares Don't Care' is a more hypnotic, spaced-out and bass-heavy affair that's perfect for those "locked in" early morning moments.

Review: A potent ongoing collaboration between two techno heads lands on a legendary label, delivering four cuts that span the spectrum of classic and contemporary dancefloor energy. Side-A kicks off with 'ClickClickClick', a tech house burner that lives up to its name as it is bouncy and rhythmically addictive. Its catchy loop play gives way to deeper, murkier textures midway through, maintaining its infectious swing while offering DJs a perfect mid-set curveball. Following it is 'Gearbox', a slick, electro-informed groover with a low-slung, funky bassline. It's high-energy yet controlled, laced with head-nodding bounce and shimmering detail that make it ideal for peak-time dancefloor action. On Side-B, 'Destination 909' is pure nostalgia with a modern polish, bringing in 90s techno grit, trancey atmospherics and a post-rave euphoria that's all tight kicks and laser-focused execution. The production is clean and sharp, but there's an intentional vintage flavor that pays tribute to the roots. Closing things out is 'Reach Out', a hypnotic, dub-leaning track infused with a raw vocal loop preaching unity and rave authenticity. It's spacious, meditative and subtly anthemic. The kind of track that creeps up on you in the best way. All in all, a cohesive, floor-ready EP.

Review: Big up to northern powerhouse Burnski for steering his Constant Sound label to the not-so-insignificant feat of release number 50. More importantly, the sounds remain as vital as ever and always evolve into subtle new sound worlds. The mantle for this one is taken by Locklead who brings some fine drum patterns to 'Backup' and pairs them with sliding hi-hats and bubbly synth motifs. It's garage-infused but utterly fresh. 'Wizzord' is a darker tech house with searching lead synths and plenty of pent-up energy, and 'Motherland' brings nice jazzy chord work and atmospheric samples. 'Pink Skies' is a bright closer with contrasting synths - some farting, some smooth - and more high-speed, catchy drums that span house and tech.

Review: Two standout tracks from Priori's This But More get a stripped, emotional rework from Loidis, which is of course the introspective alias of Brian Leeds aka Huerco S. and Pendant who is known for his minimal, textured approach. Here, Loidis stretches the originals into hypnotic, slow-burning explorations. The rhythms remain intact but feel deeper, warmer, like echoes from a distant rave. It's dancefloor music in slow motion: eyes closed, head lost in the groove. These extended versions don't just remix, they reimagine while blurring lines between ambient and club, motion and stillness. It's a compelling fusion of restraint and rhythm, perfect for late nights and deep-listening sessions alike.

Review: Future garage via techno excursivenesses by new producer Loopdeville, whose name sure does sound like a place we'd like to live, London having failed us as of late! On deep purple vinyl first comes 'Celestial Quest', an interstellar undertaking handled with remarkable ease, with little so much as a flickery garage beat and ruminant chords making mellow light of light years. Mihai Pol amps up the danger factor with rogue chord asteroids threatening to pierce the hull; and B-siders 'Nosy Fella' and 'Moonlight' both swerve tactile, with their concussive percussions and vocal murmurations, resounding like unconscious inner workings of the spacefaring mind.

Review: Veteran Russian producer Andrey Loud is back with another exploration of dancefloor minimalism with these three deep outings on Afterme. Precise production defines his style with tight drum loops and a warped bassline drawing you in while alien effects add the detail. A standout is the Ki.Mi. remix of 'Humanity' which reimagines the original with an extra bump in the drums and dry, textured hits. 'Shadow Tree' is a shimmering melange of silvery snares and hits with loopy bassline phrases perfect for cosy club spaces. Review: Pilot is one of the many labels in the orbit of the irrepressible James 'Burnski' Burnham. Its next outing is from M High who perfectly slots into the label's classy minimal and tech sound world. Things open up with 'Same Routine' which is a turbocharged sound with frazzled bass and thumping kicks. 'On My Own Supply' has a touch of the old school to it with the unbridled joy of the dancing piano chords and big, bulky beats. Review: Amsterdam's Berg Audio label returns with their seventh limited compilation with their a brilliant snapshot of the label's spirited minimal and tech house sensibility. Side-A opens with M-High's 'Soulseeker', a classy, classic-sounding cut that dips into Euro house influences but feels much deeper and smoother, full of rich, timeless vibes. Janeret's 'Scape' follows with an upbeat, slickly produced tech house tune, its crisp drums and shimmering textures making it instantly infectious and ready for peak-time movement. On Side-B, Luna Ludmila's 'Vibe Thang' brings a heavy, rolling bassline paired with a bouncy, irresistibly fun beat. It strikes a sweet balance between groove and drive, offering something both DJs and dancers will love. Rounding out the record, Lola Palmer's 'Stranger' leans into a more nocturnal, late-night atmosphere, seamlessly blending elements of house and techno into a deep, hypnotic flow. Throughout the release, Berg Audio proves their ability to keep things lively and high-quality, while subtly shifting styles within their distinct framework. Each track feels perfect for home listeners and the floor.

Review: Burnski's agenda-setting garage label Instinct is back with killer new beats from Mance. 'Atmos101' gets things underway with sparking melodies zipping about the stereo field over chunky drums and with a filthy bassline. There is more of a throwback feel to the dusty drum loops of 'Stone Cold, Baby' complete with great vocal samples and spiralling pads. 'All Night' shows another look again with dry, stripped-back beats and big hits under warped synth stabs and more brain-melting bass. 'I Can't Help It' shuts down with silky pads work and soulful vocals.

Review: KUNST is a new series from Spanish crew Spherart Wax that looks to serve up nostalgic progressive and tech from the 90s and designed for packed dance floors. To kick things off, up step Mariche and Gutt for a mix of solo cuts and collabs. 'Autogroove' gets things underway with tight and turbo-powered tech, which ADR remixes into a deeper sound. Gutt's 'Your Mind' is taught and bouncy tech with wispy cosmic synths and then the pair come together for 'Phone Call', which is a standout cut with playful dial tones and rugged low ends all packed up in club-ready beats.

Review: Vinyl only record label Purple Print mark an impressive selection with 'Lanao Izany', a fresh EP from the Hungarian artist Daniel Meister, whose snappily produced but well-balanced mixes help bring a reinvigorating freshness to the easily mishandled world of minimal tech. We're not sure what "lazao Izany" means, but the track *is* zany: unmistakable synth santoor and crying vocals make for a mournfully mobile mix on the A track. Meanwhile, 'Delight' and 'Different Places' continue to goosebump us with low bandwidth static SFX and relentlessly snappy hits.

Review: In signature cinematic melodic techno style, Mind Against and Cay bring 'Cant U Hear Me / Trust', laying thick a hi-tech fusion of soulful house and synthetically squeezed sound-energy. The thrumming heartbeat of UK club culture is heart sifted through a harsh cyborg grate, reducing things to a metallurgic, pulmonary pulp. Crystalline percussion, cascading synths... 'Trust' makes particularly pristine use of untainted pluck design, with peaking plucks wriggling in the mid-high layer like buds on a mecha-euphoric flower (just look at that front cover).

Review: Part of a new wave of Brazilian artists, Minority Retort make their mark again here with a second EP, and the first for the new Sinapse Records. 'My Kicks' has a gritty tech house edge and mechanical groove with whispered vocals adding some human softness. 'Black Out' carrie son in the same vibe with retro-future aesthetics and hefty kicks. 'This Is Out' is another stiff, robotic take on house that's run through with some stuff modulations and abstract vocal sounds. 'MS20' has a more fluid groove with some hints of US hose percussion but more warped lines and sinewy pads to keep it tech-y.

Review: Ninja Records looks to build on the success of its first outing with a new outing from Miroloja who are brothers and key players in the Parisian underground with great credits already to their name on Berg Audio, Tzinah Records and OLO RECORDS. Their stripped-back but tight sound is laid bare on opener 'Linkblow' with its warm house kicks and wet clicks soon to make you move. 'Morgan' is speedier with some space-tech vibes and a snappier low-end. Closer 'Krazyteora' then explores a creepy late-night urban landscape with some cyclical drums and synths moving things onwards.

Review: A clearsighted modern interpretation of the central Detroit clubland comes by way of Mister Joshooa, an emerging figure in the city's new underground, already known for his dual talents as DJ and sound engineer. Haunting local strait spots like TV Lounge and Lincoln Factory, and having already featured on Carl Craig's Detroit Love compilation, Joshooa's razzly retrovision of Detroit techno, given enough time and effort, could easily qualify him as a modern classic craftsman, should he continue to play his cards right. Elastic basslines, tactile percussions, and moaning, flexed vocals typify 'Settle Down', 'Snake Oil' and 'Step Up', the last of which closes the day on a super weighty machine funk automatism.

Review: The fact that this is the 13th release in the Ohm series catalogue need not impede the assurance of quality by way of superstitions about unlucky numbers. New ones from Modernism, Tim Kossmann, Bec Kaczor and Kirill Matveev work through gassy textures that rasp against negative, membranous moulds, be this on the understated, unassuming 'Love Goes' or the neurotransmissive 'Deserve Rage'. Bjarnar Jonsson has a good radar for talent, and does a bang-up A&R job on this resistant, reactant techno comp.

The release explores the intersections of dub, house and techno, showing MR G's knack for creating deep, emotive grooves. Over the 25 years he's been releasing music he's kept a signature style and this is no excepyion. Side-1 features 'Dust In The System: Tokyo Dub Plate', a jazzy, dub-infused tech-house track with a rich, atmospheric vibe. Its deep basslines and subtle swing make it both hypnotic and dancefloor-ready. Side-2 opens with 'Let's Do It', where acid-laced techno and house collide. With bold rave chords and a driving rhythm, this track packs an infectious energy that feels destined for peak-time moments. Closing the EP is 'Find Love (Ambient Space Tek)', a chord-heavy, dreamlike piece that leans into chill-out territory. Its ambient tones and ethereal textures provide a soothing contrast, ending the record on a reflective note. Another excellent album, functional yet soulful, in his impressive catalogue.

Review: London label Fourier Transform welcome back Rekab (James Baker) and label debuter Mre for 'Ace High'. 'Armadillos' rolls up its chassis for a serious exercise in minimal weight, reconstituting tuned percussions as it trundles along, while Rekab's 'Always Having Fun' posits an ideal life-mode: a steady, direct current of enjoyment, set to hedonically calculated beats. 'Climbing High' rebates the percussions for a subtle lark's ascent in deep acid, while 'Ace' complementarily descends across cross-rhythmic breaks and harmonies.

Review: Mystic Bill (real name William Torres) has been making music in Chicago since the late 1980s, though it's only since the mid 1990s that his records have been appearing in stores. Here he makes his bow on Rawax offshoot ChiWax with a set of cuts loosely inspired by the long-held Windy City trend of fusing elements of jacking house and jazz. He begins in typically forthright fashion on 'Pitmaster Ritual', where jacking acid house drums are overlaid with spacey synth solos and jazzy electronics, before unfurling the chunkier and more locked in, organ-sporting shuffle of 'We Play Jazz'. Over on side B, '4 Paul' is a wholehearted tribute to sadly departed Chicagoan house great Paul Johnson, while 'This Side of the Tracks' is deeper, warmer and altogether weirder in the best possible way.

Review: Silias Records welcomes Marko Nastic, a venerated DJ and producer from Serbia who could rightly claim to be one of his country's biggest underground electronic music exports. He brings peak time renegers here with tracks rooted in techno and tech such as 'Sour Pie' with its mechanical drum loops and rickety rhythms run through with blasts of electricity. 'Circuits' is smoother, deeper, more rounded in design and jazzy in melody. 'Que Rico Enrigo' is packed with well-designed sounds and a hint of Latin flair in the vocal sample and 'Clockworksx' shuts down with a thudding, persuasive and chunky tech sound with clattering percussion adding some texture.

Review: Neil E and Big City Bill's latest doubles as the second offering from Spincycle, yet another a split 7" single on 180g vinyl. The twins' journey began two decades ago high up in an unnamed mountain range, where they met, after which they descended onto the city in search of purpose. Thus spake Zarathustra: down below, they toiled away in dimly lit garages, decoding mysterious symbols cast on walls by home-gaffed fluorescent lights. At first, their work seemed like madness, but there comes a time in every madman's life when toil leads to breakthrough. Thus were sowed the two fine harvests you hear here: 'Dry Rub', with its tugging taut sound design, and 'The BBV', a mistier firmament of altitudinal unknowns. No need to map out the terrain first - just give in to your ears.

Flipping the order of the '97 12", this edition begins with the pair's original mix - a warm, colourful slab of purist, UK style early tech-house of the type most associated with Pantone-obsessed producers Circulation. On the flip-side opening 'Nice & Tide Mix', the Belgian duo opt for a chunkier and more bass-heavy late 90s deep house sound - all restless keyboard stabs, sampled house beats, effects-laden vocal snippets and winding acid lines - while the 'Dream Mix' is a bold, heavy and lightly psychedelic techno reinterpretation.

On this latest EP, he folds elements of acid, sci-fi and Goa trance into a rich and forward-moving four-tracker. The experience leans much more toward interstellar techno exploration. 'Acid Spin' kicks things off with propulsion. It's not overly fast, but the drive is undeniable. Electric squiggles and sharp synth lines dart across a steady rhythm, giving the track an urgent yet sleek atmosphere. 'EPR Paradox' is just as tightly produced, letting its groove build gradually with layers of texture and restraint. On the 2nd side, 'Wavefunction' drops into a swirling, cosmic descent. It feels like tumbling through a wormhole, where the lines between gravity and sound begin to blur. 'Computing Force' rounds off the journey with a deft hybrid of Goa trance energy and techno structure. The melodies shimmer with a nostalgic rave glow, yet everything remains clean, spacious, and functional. Altogether, the EP is a bold statement from a veteran still pushing boundaries. Okain brings the class to this final outing of the year from German tech titans RAND Muzik. It's a full-throttle 12" that wastes no time in getting down to business: 'Dirac Sea' combines funky drum programming with nice squelchy acid, warped synth lines and crisp percussion to soon sweep you off your feet. 'Pterodactyl Phaser' is smoother and has a subtle garage shuffle to its low end, while balmy pads keep things cosmic up top. 'Spintronics' then ups the ante once more with thumping tech kicks and lively synth lines. 'Circuit Model' shuts down with some nice psychedelic clouds and a busy bassline. Quality tackle for sure.

Review: You might think that Yassin Omidi is a newcomer, but in fact it is the new-coming of an already accomplished and respected head who now delves deep into the world of dub techno on Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic. The beatless 'Sluder Dub' is coated in heavy fog and static with conscious vocal musings and the roomiest of chords landing with great drama and tons of echo. On the flip is another analogue sound that features buffed metal dub chords, classic effects and a shapeshifting ambient hiss. It's dramatic despite being such a minimal piece.

Review: Back in February, East End Dubz launched a new label, Rhythm Traxx - an imprint which the London producer intends to use as a vehicle for "timeless house music with an emphasis on raw energy and infectious grooves". For release number three, he's turned to newcomer Oncho - a producer with little or no online footprint. Title track 'Paradigm' sets the tone, with fluid synth motifs, sampled vocalisations and glitchy tech-house sounds riding polished beats and a deep, weighty bassline. 'Goes Like This' joins the dots between vintage UK tech-house and the alien, bass-heavy sounds of bleep techno, while 'Get Back'is a dirty, acid-fired slammer and 'Thorough' is a TB-303-powered slab of deep tech-house. Closing cut 'Dreamin', meanwhile, is - unsurprisingly given the title - dreamy, glassy-eyed and hypnotic.
