Review: By our reckoning Morkret, Kylan, Tystnaden & Ensamheten is the eighth long player Jonas Ronnberg and Michel Isorinne have issued together as Dard A Ranj Fran Det Hebbershalska Samfundet in the past two years. Impressive work, more so given how productive Ronnberg is in his other musical endeavours these days. Recorded live in Hebbershalet, Sweden late 2014, this latest D.A.R.F.D.H.S. adventure sees the pair once again traversing the frosty ambient soundscapes across seven tracks that will delight and intrigue the more open minded of electronic music followers. From start to finish, Morkret, Kylan, Tystnaden & Ensamheten is an immersive affair with only the occasional concession to anything resembling a beat - "Ensam I Vasa" and "Tystnaden & Ensamheten" are both quite beautiful.

Review: This debut single from Italy's Dark Division makes the plethora of other newcomers seem inexperienced by comparison. Little is known as to the exact identity of this artist, but this EP o the newly crowned Hidden Tapes will no doubt lead to a whole range of new and exciting material in the future. Sounding a but like Demdike Stare on a dub techno tip, the lead tune is a sharply stripped-back techno experiment with a constant buzz in its underbelly, and that's followed by the relatively more aggressive and glitch-friendly slant of "Collage Voltage". On the flip, "Analog Automatism" offers a full suite of noise thrashing and percussive filth, while "Lacquer Sequence" heads into a techno wormhole with no way out - a hollow, cavernous field of distortion wraps around twisted beats and dubwise echo trickery. A serious first release from Dark Division.

Review: Hands up who gets the vintage sci-fi reference in Trevor Jackson's latest production alias? For the non-nerds amongst us, Dark There Were & Golden-Eyed is the name of both a legendary short story by Ray Bradbury and a famous London sci-fi bookshop of the 1970s. Musically, the three tracks Jackson has served up this time round tend towards the stripped-back and synthesizer-heavy. They were apparently recorded between 2010 and 2014 using a minimalist set-up of handpicked pieces of analogue gear. While the B-side contains a couple of formidably dark, odd and curious, soundtrack style excursions, it's the epic A-side, "Design Your Dreams" - a fluid, loved-up and hypnotic blend of Terry Riley style cyclical synthesizer motifs and subtle percussion - that stands out.

Review: Frenchman Darlyn Vlysserves up four brand new cuts for Adana Twins's TAU label that were all made in his studio in Spain. The Doble Impacto EP comes after a well received recent appearance on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant label and plenty of high profile support from the likes of Dixon, Black Coffee and Maceo Plex. The title track gets the EP under the way with a stark, Italo-tinged electro sound that is retro and cinematic. There are darker new wave moods on 'Vi Vil Vaere' and heavy drum workout powering along 'Chaka Chaka' before closer 'Uroboros' layers up slapping hits, and frazzled bass.

Review: Back in 2014, Dutch Minimal Wave legend Danny 'Das Ding' Bosten released Sequencer, a cassette of recordings made using his own homebrew modular drum machine and a Casio SK1 loaded with a Mellotron sample. Issued by local Rotterdam label DeHef Tapes, it proved something of a cult addition to the small but deadly Das Ding discography. In a show of good faith, DeHef have licensed the four tracks to fellow Rotterdam crew Midlight for this limited, hand-stamped 10" edition which will delight the Das Ding fanatics who prefer their Bostenite on wax. Sequencer is not really comparable to the early Das Ding popularised by Minimal Wave, it's Bosten looking forward and sequential experimentation at its most rewarding. Fans of the more stripped down SUED stuff can probably vibe to this too!

Review: Oh yes, we've been waiting on this reissue for quite some time! Originally out in 2009, Das Ding's "Triffid Farm" is one of those electro jams that simply stand out, and one which his fellow Dutch DJ's have been chucking on the decks a-go-go! The Rotterdam-based producer is elusive to say the least, but what you really need to know about him is how seductive his own personal brand of wave influenced electro is. "Triffid Farm" is a pulsating, ringing drum-machine track with a seriously funky dose of synth madness at its core - one for the heads AND the floor! On the flip, "We Can Rebuild Him" is nuttier, more Drexciyan in nature and just that little bit darker. Recommended.

Review: The first release on the freshly minted Molt label is special on a number of levels, not least a transparent marbled vinyl pressing and the inclusion of ten specially prepared locked-grooves from lead artist DB1. He also provides two superb A-side cuts too: the hissing, deep space hum of "Late Night" - a fine fusion of abstract electronics, dub techno and pitched-down grooves - and the abrasive, slowly shifting ambient creepiness of "Tone". Over on side B, DYL offers up a wonderfully creepy slab of sparse, minimalist and metallic techno/bass music fusion while Paragon delivers a druggy trip into alien electronics and strange, sludgy beats and abstract sounds.

Review: Kolony Gorky is back with a third EP in less than a year that once again offers some stylish and artful rhythmic interpretations. DDrhode & Sohrab are behind this one and it opens with the airy percussive pattern and suspensory loops of deep and deft jam 'Ghoroob' (Kryptic Rhythm) which becomes dusty downbeat and late-night jaunt when served up as the 'Haleeteh?' version. 'Azadi' has the feel of a sixties spy thriller with its mysterious leads and 'Distant Sun' shuts down with some zoned out and loved-up deep house romance. Another hard-to-define but easy-to-love EP from the already vital Kolony Gorky.

Review: A must for fans of Minimal Wave and Mannequin Records retroverts on offer here from Pascal Pinkert (Dollkraut) according to Knekelhuis themselves: he's working on his darker wave salvation, going by the moniker of De Ambassade. In the greyness by concrete of the Amsterdam suburbs. The dusty coldwave vibes on the title track are more reminiscent of X Mal Deutschland than Das Ding with its dark guitars and bass but it's still alright by us. On the flip is "Geen Grenade" a bit more pop-ish and upbeat. Something that you could imagine hearing in some Goth discotheque circa '83.

Review: This is a third hot 7" release in a row for the Knekelhuis label. De Ambassade aka Pascal Pinkert is the man behind the intern, intoxicating music, which pairs a middle eastern sounding lead synth with urgent, hurried cold wave drums and stark synth work that brings more than a hint of industrialism. The sense of uncertainty and paranoia that blights all our daily lives right now certain colours these tracks, too, with anxiousness never far away from the avant-pop sounds. Add in the rolling basslines on the a-side and more mysterious vibe of the flip and you have two vital tunes.

Review: Netherlands outfit De Ambassade are now known simply as Ambassade but nothing has changed about their darkly alluring synth concoctions. They have a second album coming on this label in 2023 and ahead of that comes this two track 12". Founding member Naama Freedman started these cuts off with sketches that the band then developed into what we have here. 'Young Birds' has lyrics from an old traditional English folk song which bring real darkness to the shadowy drones and minimal rhythm. 'Palette' on the flip has a lone female vocal, yearning and pained amidst lo-fi pads and clunky drums. Two super pieces.

Review: As good as the Alessio Natalizia-curated Mutazione compilation issued by Strut was, alot of people praising it seem unaware that the Rome-based Mannequin label have been tirelessly documenting music from Italy's vast archives of untapped synth music since the label was founded some five years ago. This 12" makes for a perfect example and is one of three releases from Mannequin that highlights the new wave scene that prospered in 1980s Turin. Close Your Eyes is an extended 12" edition of the solo single recorded and released by Politburo band member Tommy De Chirico back in 1984. Originally issued as a two track 7" on the Shirak imprint, this edition features a rare demo version of the title track as well as two previously unheard tracks from the De Chirico archives.
