Review: The first recorded meeting of Pierre Bastien (compositeur Parisien) and Casper Van De Velde's (Belgian drummer known for his outings on Qeerecords) documents two days of lowkey live-performed regalia at Werkplaats Walter in Brussels. Set up by Blickwinkel, the residency saw Bastien's "miniature mechanical orchestras" - trumpets, motors, Meccano arms, all of which make up the former artist's trademark live machinic draw - click into orbit with Van De Velde's loose-limbed, textural percussion. Both artists work in detail and gesture before volume, moving gently but unpredictably, index finger tracing part-clockwork, part-creature pattern cuts.

Review: Elizabeth Madox Roberts' The Time Of Man (1926) is an episodic modern novel, tracing the life of Ellen Chesser, the daughter of poor white tenant farmers in rural Kentucky. Roberts treats the main character's movement through different landscapes and seasons waveringly, grappling with poverty, loss, love, and the push-pull between solitude and connection by way of a lytic narrative that shifts and resolves atemporally. Biosphere's new record carries the transmission chain further, naming itself after the novel while interspersing its hiss-topped drum machine actions with vocal snippets from Joan Lorring's radio play version. Slowly transcendent, Biosphere presides with arid royalty over a slow but satiating new six-track release.

Review: Cate Brooks continues her elegant exploration of imagined geographies with a suite of glacial, slow-blooming compositions that feel suspended between reality and dream. Built by the British musician primarily on Synclavier, Prophet and 808, these pieces evoke the hush and expanse of a far northern landscape with uncanny clarity-despite Brooks never having visited the region that inspired it. Tracks like 'Like Breathing Statues' and 'Aspect from the Window' suggest weather systems forming in slow motion, their textures layered and precise but never clinical. 'In the Blue Hour' moves with a quiet internal rhythm, almost ecclesiastical in tone, while 'Polar Night' closes the journey in dusk-lit stillness. There's something deeply solitary about the whole record-each sound shaped and weighted, but never forced. Brooks's background in synthesis lends a tactile, handmade feel to every element, creating something less like a travelogue and more like a lucid dream of place.

Review: Originally released in April 2017, this is a reissue that reaffirms the album's pivotal role in modern darkwave. Review: This new collaboration between Swedish producer Civilistjavel! and Lebanese artist Mayssa Jallad is both a conceptual inversion and a sonic ghost of Jallad's original record. Refracting material from her Beirut-focused album through sparse dub techno, Civilistjavel! transforms narrative-rich compositions into abstract, often beatless forms where Mayssa's voice floats disembodied in a fog of delay and reverb. Tracks like 'Baynana (Version)' and 'Holiday Inn (March 21 to 29) (Version)' feel haunted by memory, with structure hinted at but rarely resolved. It's a remarkable shift in context, but one that remains emotionally aligned. Civilistjavel!'s production avoids spectacle in favour of slow erosionivocal fragments hover, dissolve, re-emerge. Even more rhythmic moments like 'Kharita (Dub)' maintain an eerie restraint, built on slippery grooves and shimmering decay. Both artists are working far from their geographic homesiMayssa in Boston, Tomas in Uppsalaibut the result sounds uncannily unified. It's a record that holds grief and beauty in the same hand, illuminating the quiet force of Mayssa's voice and Civilistjavel!'s deft minimalism. Not so much a remix album as a parallel reality: austere, spectral, and deeply moving.

Review: A four sided selection of remixes of the goth kingpins' widely acclaimed and long awaited latest album Songs of a Lost World. From the moment Paul Oakenfold's 'I Can Never Say Goodbye' rework opens proceedings i lush strings, half-submerged vocals, and a cinematic pace i it's clear that curation, not just contribution, has shaped the form. Orbital turn 'Endsong' into a glistening spiral of sequencers and tension, while Sally C's raw house take on 'A Fragile Thing' ups the pulse without disturbing the gloom. Smith i still unmistakably the same outsider from Crawley, West Sussex i guides things with restraint, letting the space speak louder than the noise. Four Tet's version of 'Alone' closes the first disc like a forgotten lullaby, cracked and glinting. You don't get every remix i the more textural, post-rock turns are gone i but you do get a sharp cross-section that keeps faith with both atmosphere and momentum. It's the kind of record that feels designed for the night: not to lift it, exactly, but to sink into it willingly, track by track.

Robert Smith i the Crawley-born architect of dream-pop dread i doesn't just sign off on the remixes; he threads them into something tactile and deeply referential. On wax, everything breathes more. Craven Faults' rework of 'I Can Never Say Goodbye' stretches across the grooves like a slow fog; you can almost hear the reverb decay. Trentemoller's version of 'And Nothing Is Forever' pulses with distant thunder, while Ex-Easter Island Head bring a kind of percussive drone minimalism that feels at once ancient and alien. The inclusion of post-rock outliers like Mogwai and 65daysofstatic leans into the format's cinematic sprawl i these are not just remixes but alternate timelines. Smith curates the artwork, adds handwritten notes, sketches, fragments of ephemera i each fold and crease of the tri-gatefold sleeve feels intentional. Even the sequencing feels weighted: Four Tet and Anja Schneider on one end, Twilight Sad and Moreno on the other. This isn't just a deluxe package i it's a monument. A showcase of how far The Cure's music can stretch, bend and re-form without losing that original ache.

Review: Originally released in 2015, this reissue returns to the stunning debut full-length from Canadian electroacoustic composer Sarah Davachi, who is rapidly becoming a big deal in the world of experimental sounds. Emerging from brief but acclaimed releases on labels like Important Records' Cassauna and Full Spectrum, this album marked her as a unique voice within the world of minimalist and experimental sound. Trained at Mills College, Davachi's work reflects a deep understanding of synthesis and acoustic instrumentation, with a focus on patience, atmosphere and tone over flashy modular theatrics. Rather than overwhelming the listener with density, Davachi builds a deep listening album full of impressive tracks. Vintage synths like the Buchla 200, EMS Synthi and Prophet 5 provide an enveloping tonal palette that reveal the composer's intent to create a more intimate, hybrid sonic language. The opening track 'heliotrope' unfolds like smoke rising into a high ceiling, shimmering with evolving harmonic detail. 'wood green' moves from near-silence to a radiant calm. Review: A fourth full length from the Montreal-based enigma. Sarah Davachi's electroacoustic compositions have become the stuff of legend and hallucination-inducing live shows, refrains that bore into your mind then soul, detailed and complex ideas borne out in minimalist moods capable of taking listeners beyond themselves, out to somewhere completely new. Talk about a curveball, then. All My Circles Run features five totally unique compositions which all share one common trait - they eschew synthesisers and instead each focus on a different instrument. Hence the titles. 'For Strings', 'For Voice', 'For Piano', 'For Organ', 'Chanter'. But, although the record's core parts represent a different move for the musician, Davachi's incredible ear for subtly powerful sounds remains at the centre of the experience. So prepare to be blown away again. Gently.

Drawing on his deep affinity for the rough textures of underground techno, the work channels influences ranging from the industrial growl of Ramleh to the acidic pulse of TM404, with moments that recall the claustrophobic minimalism of Mika Vainio and the haunting drones of Loop. Fearless is unafraid of pushing boundaries, his machinesifed by years of use and a tangled web of circuitryiemitting strange, almost sentient sounds, as if alive in their own right. What emerges is an album that doesn't simply reflect the artist's influences, but speaks with a distinct, personal voice. Tracks like 'While My Machines Gently Weep' and 'Death Mask' bear the hallamrks of live takes and dub-inspired mixing, creating a haunting, almost otherworldly quality, the machine noise blending with echoes of the past. Fearless has long been obsessed with dub and here, he allows its principles to guide him, distilling decades of musical history into something that feels deeply present. It was produced by Ben Hillier and topped charts in 18 countries with the hit 'Precious'' the most standout. The nine-month tour across Europe and North America included festival headlining slots like Coachella and O2 Wireless but a real standout moment from it was their performance at KROQ-FM's Almost Acoustic Christmas concert, which was captured in full and now gets pressed up to this fine double album. This superb Christmas show is the sound of the band at their best during one of their many fine eras.

Review: Portraits GRM offer a split release between Beatrice Dillon and Hideki Umezawa, riffing on 'basho' and Baschet respectively. Dillon's 'Basho' is shaped on the mortar of a Japanese philosophical concept: conceived by Japanese philosopher Kitaro Nishida, basho describes a post-physical plane in which experiences and thoughts interconnect, dissolving subject-object distinctions. Dillon and Umezawa's music both resist fixity, reactivating the listener's attention by way electronic sounds stripped of origin. Umezawa's 'Still Forms', however, contrasts Dillon's firm-footed techno curtails with an entirely beatless piece, exploring the sonic potential of Baschet sound structures: experimental instruments developed in the 1950s by Bernard and Francois Baschet. Electroacoustic cognitions branch out like newly grown synapses on this fresh 12".

Review: One of the most underappreciated and perhaps most emotionally resonant albums from this legendary keyboard wizard gets a timely reissue. Released in 1992, it was overshadowed by the shifting tides of popular music, but time has finally begun to catch up to its brilliance. Here, Dolby reveals a matured musical identity that is melodically rich, lyrically thoughtful and sonically adventurous. 'Cruel', featuring the exquisite Eddi Reader, is one of Dolby's most stirring ballads. A lush, heartfelt piece that blends synth sophistication with intimate vocals. 'Eastern Bloc (the sequel)' cleverly reimagines 'Europa and the Pirate Twins', even borrowing rhythmic cues from Johnny Otis's 'Willie and the Hand Jive' before veering into its own layered complexity. On 'Silk Pajamas' and 'I Love You Goodbye', Dolby dips into a warm, Southeastern US sound palette, his intricate electronic textures as well as his knack for genre fusion (without ever sounding gimmicky) shining bright. Even when venturing toward mainstream pop ('Close but No Cigar') or darker territory ('Neon Sisters'), Dolby remains unpredictable yet unmistakably himself. The final track, 'Beauty of a Dream', is a moving, cinematic closer that lingers long after. While The Golden Age of Wireless remains iconic, Astronauts & Heretics is Dolby at his most personal and artistically fearless. It's great to see this album get its due.
