Review: Given the respective outputs of committed ambient explorers and sound designers Zake (best known for releasing no less than five fine albums in 2019) and 36 (most recently seen on A Strangely Isolated Place with the superb album "Fade To Grey"), you'd expect this trip into aural deep space to be rather good. It is of course, with the four tracks mixing echoing sonic tones and drifting sound effects with slow-burn electronic melodies and the kind of immersive, sustained chords that were once the preserve of German maestro Pete Namlook. The third track in the suite, appropriately titled "Stage 3", is little less than stunning, in part because of its grandiose, almost classical intent.

Review: The world has found itself in a significant hurry. We have also found ourselves in the most distracted period of time in history; finding it tremendously difficult to remain in a moment of stillness, quietude, or allow time for self-reflection. Conversely, our vast universe continues its expansion into infinite development; a climate of deafening silence in a boundless four-dimensional continuum. It remains mesmerizing with a quiet allure that freely suspends in space-time; a true account of the beautiful unknown that sparks hope, reverence, and an awesome realization of impenetrable mystery.

"Stasis Sounds For Long-Distance Space Travel" is audibly rich in its delivery with an array of tranquil billows and patient tones. It is a journey and soundtrack that commences at Earth's thermosphere, gently moving towards the untraveled parts of space, lushly floating on forever.

These arrangements represent a group of celestial transmissions that are delicate in nature and intended for the listener to embrace moments of stillness, quietude and reflection, of which are on a trajectory of extinction at a place we call Earth.

Review: "At the center of 'Long Formations +4' are the two longest pieces I've recorded. Although recorded and released at different times, these pieces always felt like they were two sides of the same coin and I'd hoped to have them collected on a physical release one day. Both use layers of guitar as the source material and the pieces ebb and flow between the original guitar recordings and variations on them - manipulations in playback speed and EQ with additional textures and melodies fading into the mixes. The additional pieces were all recorded in late 2019 and are significantly shorter pieces, but feel very connected to the long formations in tone and in mood so it seemed fitting that these all be compiled together. These pieces are also predominantly guitar based with the addition of strings in "Soft Spoken" and onde magnetique in 'Street Lights'."

Review: Fragments' was created by using a method of composition James has been perfecting, where he takes small pieces of unreleased music that he has written stretching over the last 10 years, and runs them through different modes and methods of granular stretching and FFT processing. In some cases, the original audio source was no longer than 20-30 seconds long.

Review: Hidden Amongst the Trees and Foothills' was recorded this past spring during what I would describe as a very weird time for me. I was experiencing a constant sense of isolation and feeling disconnected with both myself and others. Playing guitar has been a constant source of peace for me and these are some tracks that came out of this difficult period. Looking back now, I feel like I'm in a different, better place now. I hope this music will bring peace to others just as it has done for me.

The tracks on "Low Priest" embody an organic intensity that envelope the listener, allowing them to get lost in the wall of sounds. Multiple layers of manipulated field recordings and guitar work flawlessly converge, producing thirty minutes of all encompassing, angelic drone.

Review: Indianapolis native Marc Ertel made his debut PITP appearance at Post. Festival 2019, where he performed alongside with other Past Inside the Present artists on the labels showcase stage. Since that time, PITP has been anxious to share Ertel's brilliant guitar-laden drone arrangements to the masses.

On his first proper solo release with Past Inside the Present titled, "[Overtures]", Ertel delivers five compositions of immersive, angelic drone that embody an organic intensity suffused with opulent guitar articulations. Multiple layers of synth lines and guitar-work flawlessly converge, producing 36 minutes of vaporous soundscapes. [Overtures] is a solemn, yet equally rapturous paean to placidity. A brilliant and eloquent addition to PITP's growing catalogue of dronescapes and healing sounds.

Review: Six beautiful arrangements, saturated with field recordings and blissful ambience.

"The field recordings for this album were especially intense. Captured during the winter months, there were many days when the temperature was higher than average with strong winds. Initially dissapointed with too much wind noise, I discovered, and was quite surprised, with the results of these captured field recordings. The collection of field recordings became the foundation of these arrangements and consequently became the all encompassing title of these compositions, 'Wind Colors'."

Produced and mixed by Rafael Anton Irisarri (The Sight Below, Ghostly International) and mastered by Taylor Deupree (12K Mastering).

Review: Formerly known as The Greatest Hoax, there's nothing remotely fake about Washington D.C.'s T.R. Jordan. The work of some serious talent, both in terms of its arrangements and those working behind the scenes (Rafael Anton Irissari, of legendary Ann Arbour imprint Ghostly International is on mixing and production duties), the results of efforts to create this album are truly gripping, albeit in a gentle and heartbreakingly tender way. Whoever the "You" in the title is needs to count themselves very lucky indeed. The six tracks presented here are spellbinding contemporary classical overtures of such spectacular beauty they seem destined to score the most humanistic moments of sci fi. From the redemptive mood of "Leap Of Faith", to the fairytale piano stunner that is "Bruised World", here's proof that storytelling needs no words.

His past tapes have become hugely sought after and albums on Kranky and Moodgadget are not far behind. "May/Atra" is beautiful and cathartic, a place for lost souls to drift amongst dusty soundscapes that evoke nostalgic memories. It's music for day dreamers and those happy to get lost in their own thoughts while being nudged along by these emotional aural cues.

It is difficult to keep up with current events and, at the same time, keep your sanity intact, and each one of these songs was written at a time during which I felt absolutely overwhelmed; however, in writing them, I found a deep sense of comfort, too.

Review: The aural illustration of a year of bliss, sorrow, and stasis, NYC bedroom-ambient wanderer Viul follows last spring's Bright Decline (Disques d'Honore, 2019) with thirteen new pieces weaving delicate hints of vocals, synthesizer, tape texture and field recording into his foundational guitar loops. On Outside the Dream World, his debut full-length for emerging ambient curator Past Inside the Present, Viul quickly coaxes unlikely melodies to the fore: "Sur Canadian TV" builds ominously from the residue of orchestral tune-up collage "Spring Mash," while the gauze of the title track momentarily disguises a sinewy pop arrangement before ceding to the frigid, expansive "Sewn." The record's second side hosts a study in contrasts embodied by the dense swirl of "Spacefuck Symmetry Endpoint" against the near-motionless finale "Shroud." Mastered at Black Knoll Studio by Rafael Anton Irisarri and featuring cover photography by Benoît Pioulard, Outside the Dream World is a vivid addition to PITP's growing catalogue of ambient serenity.

Listening to this is what you might imagine passing from this life to the next sounds like - all consuming and intense yet somehow empty and utterly devoid of distraction. It is a meditation in sound that subtle evolves with intricacies that real themselves upon close headphone listening. Alternatively, put it on to sooth a busy mind and allow it to send you off to sleep.
