Review: The UK's Robin Lee is one of the members of much-loved disco gang Faze Action but also he's behind Andromeda Orchestra who return here with an album that offers a cosmic fusion of jazz-funk and disco. It's been put together with Moogs, clarinets, Rhodes and rich analogue textures that make for a mix of nostalgia and sonic richness that sinks you in deep. Blending nostalgia with innovation, Lee creates deep, immersive soundscapes. There are widescreen odysseys like 'Mythical', loved-up bunkers such as 'Thinking About Your Love' and a rare Nick The Record remix of 'Get Up & Dance' that overflows with cosmic melodies and lush, life-affirming strings.

Review: The multi-talented Joe Armon-Jones is back in the game with his most ambitious and self-defined solo work yet. All The Quiet (Part II) is a colourful collision of jazz, funk, dub, hip-hop and soul that was entirely written, produced and mixed by the man himself. His work as part of Mercury Prize-winning Ezra Collective is what established Armon-Jones, but his evolution as a solo artist on his own label, Aquarii Records, has been just as essential. This follow-up to 2019's Turn To Clear View features collaborators like Greentea Peng, Yazmin Lacey, Hak Baker and Nubya Garcia and is a deeply personal sound that veers from expansive and cosmic to more intimate and tender.

Review: American songwriter and composer Patricia Barber's marked her breakthrough with Modern Cool, an album driven by her captivating take on The Doors' 'Light My Fire.' Her performance of the album at The Jazz Standard caught the attention of Blue Note's Bruce Lundvall and lead to a celebrated run of releases and international acclaim. Modern Cool became an audiophile favourite thanks to Jim Anderson's meticulous recording and Barber's sharp songwriting and artistry, and it still sounds super here as reissued by Impex on VR900-D2-pressed 180-gram vinyl. It's the perfect way to enjoy a real jazz classic.

Review: Cafe Tacvba's Re was released in July 1994 but remains one of the most groundbreaking albums in Latin rock. The sprawling double LP produced by Gustavo Santaolalla fused punk, norteNo, funk and traditional Mexican sounds into a daring, genre-defying opus. Tracks like 'El Baile y El Salon' and 'La Ingrata' became almost instant anthems, while deeper cuts elsewhere explored death, identity and national pride. Often compared to The White Album by The Beatles, Re delivered cohesion through diversity and elevated Mexican rock to new artistic heights. Thirty years on, it's a cult classic and cultural cornerstone and is essential listening that reshaped rock en espaNol and inspired generations who came after.

Review: Funk legend Bootsy Collins drops his rather indelible 23rd studio album at the age of 73. Despite the advancing years, Bootsy remains a restless innovator and tireless blender of funk, punk, rock, r&b and futuristic sounds. This latest concoction album features collaborations with icons like Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Dave Stewart alongside fresh talents such as October London and Fantaazma. Bootsy embraces his role as mentor here and ensures that his singular grooves are embellished with new school energy. Beyond music, he's also launching the Bootsy Collins Network, a streaming hub for live shows, tech and gaming that could well be worth a look.

Review: Released in 1967, Open marked a daring debut for Brian Auger and The Trinity with soulful vocals from Julie Driscoll. The album embodies London's vibrant late-60s scene with jazz, r&b, pop and psychedelia all reflecting the era's genre-crossing spirit. Auger's jazz roots shine on tracks like 'In and Out' and 'Isola Natale' while Driscoll brings emotional depth to covers of Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin hits. This is an always eclectic and adventurous album that combines virtuosic musicianship, surreal humour and heartfelt soul. Now regarded as a cult classic, it had a huge influence on British jazz fusion and progressive scenes.

The group includes Patricia Brennan on vibraphone, Nick Dunston on bass, Tomas Fujiwara on drums, Jacob Garchik on trombone and Adam O'Farrill on trumpet, with guest saxophonists Immanuel Wilkins and Brian Settles. Produced by John Dieterich, the album blends layered horn arrangements and subtle synth textures, including a Pocket Piano gifted by a childhood friend. The record continues to explore plenty of evocative improvisational terrain that builds on her already acclaimed discography with layered melodies, weird non-guitar sounds and plenty of free-spirited exploration.

Review: Craft Latino's reissue of Strikes Back sees Hector Lavoe's powerful final return to vinyl for the first time since 1987. Remastered from the original analogue, this deeply personal work blends Lavoe's signature salsa fire with innermost and raw emotion. Standout tracks like 'Loco,' 'Ella mintio' and 'Escarcha' speak of a vulnerable artist confronting heartbreak and public scrutiny. Produced by Willie Colon (whose own 'Set Fire' is a Latin house classic) and backed by a stellar cast, Strikes Back earned Lavoe his only GRAMMYr nomination and affirmed this record as a vital piece of salsa history as well as key to Lavoe's enduring legacy.

Review: Scandi curveballer Leoparden first shook up Oslo's experimental scene with a funky twist of disco, electronic pop and irresistible grooves. After his 2019 debut single Boliglan and a solid album on Lyskestrekk Records in 2019, plus a couple of singles, he vanished for a bit. Now, he's back and cranked up the dial, diving deeper into shimmering synths, punchy drum machines and dancefloor-ready beats. His lyrics casually capture everyday Oslo life with a breezy vibe, while the music keeps you moving with its playful vibes. Though rooted in Norway's capital, Leoparden's sound is a global invite to dance that transcends time, space and place.

Review: Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Maurice Louca is part of The Dwarfs of East Agouza with Alan Bishop and experimental composer Sam Shalabi, but also has an assured solo sound. He explores it here on Bar?y (Fera), a new album that is a hypnotic melding of polyrhythms and acoustic textures crafted over four years from the essence of a 2019 solo set. It really took bloom in a Cairo studio with longtime collaborators Ayman Asfour on violin, Khaled Yassine on percussion and Rosa Brunello on double bass. Louca's microtonal guitars weave with synths and ensemble interplay to create vivid synth-acoustic layers and guest stars Nancy Mounir and oud player Hazem Shaheen deepen the sonic richness, all guided by adventurous collaboration and resulting in an alluring, meticulously crafted work.

Review: Bobby Lyle's 1977 classic jazz-funk album showcases his well-renowned keyboard mastery with standout tracks like the inventive title cut, 'The Genie,' which is a wild groove-driven journey through multiple shifts. His rendition of 'Night Breeze,' previously recorded by Ronnie Laws, is another highlight and the mystical 'Mother Nile' features deep rhythms while the dreamy mid-tempo roller 'Pisces' soothes. Up-tempo 'Magic Ride' and atmospheric 'You Think Of Her' showcase Bobby's rich vocals and a stellar lineup including Roland Bautista, Babatunde, Victor Feldman, Ernie Watts, and Donnie Beckhelp make this it's a definitive jazz-funk fusion gem.

Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste and Cyril Neville all showed top form in a performance highlighting tracks from 'Rejuvenation' and previewed its follow up, Fire On The Bayou. The nine-song set features extended jams, some nearing 20 minutes, with the band blazing throughout. It has previously circulated only as a rare bootleg, so this official release offers a complete, well-mastered version on coloured vinyl, making it the ultimate edition.

Review: Legendary composer Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly remains a towering achievement in film music. Effortlessly blending operatic grandeur with raw Western grit, it fuses whistles, guitars, choral howls and sharp percussion into one of cinema's most iconic themes. Each character receives a unique motif, Wagnerian in concept but rooted in 1960s pop flair. Tracks like 'The Ecstasy of Gold' are emotional epics on their own but really elevate the cinematic scenes into legend. Morricone didn't just score the film-he shaped its soul and this new limited-edition reissue is a great way to relive it.

Review: Mixed by Japanese producer and DJ Muro, who has a background in hip-hop, this connoisseur is never short on deep cuts and takes us on a journey through soulful, vintage AOR sonics from his home country. Whilst no two tracks are by the same artist, there's a cohesion to the tracklist thanks to Muro's ear in pulling out things that sit so well together. Asakawa Mak's 1988 cut 'American Night' is a smooth nod to sophisti pop greats Prefab Sprout; whilst Seri Ishikawa's elegant and lush number, 'Eternal 1/2', highlights how innovative she was in forging new sounds back in 1985. These two cuts are just the tip of the iceberg, yet this compilation is an ideal entry point to some of the finest Japanese music of the late 20th century. You can bank on Muro delivering the goods.

Review: Milton Nascimento's ambitious follow-up to the groundbreaking Clube da Esquina came back in 1978. Spanning two discs, Clube da Esquina 2 maintains the collective, genre-blurring spirit of its predecessor while deepening its emotional and political scope. The lyrics tap into Brazil's social contradictions of hope and despair, beauty and hardship with lush, experimental melodies and busy, prickly rhythms. Across its varied textures, Nascimento blends MPB, jazz, rock and regional grooves, all shaped by a growing circle of collaborators including Elis Regina, Chico Buarque and Lo Borges. It's a bold, poetic reflection on Brazil's past and future with Nascimento's unmistakable voice at the centre.

Backed by her longtime jazz trio and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra with lush arrangements by Vince Mendoza, this one mixes up personal nostalgia with a real sense of timeless elegance. Though known for blending reggae with lovers rock, they also fold in conscious vibes and disco grooves to their sodden and here the Tokyo-based outfit delivers ten tracks that reflect their unfiltered present. It's an honest, heartfelt and unmistakably ONEGRAM sound.

Nihon Min'y?: Latin Feeling is a forward-thinking fusion of traditional Japanese folk songs and Latin jazz grooves that was recorded when ?tsuki was in her 20s and remains one of her most unique works. It is the world of South London-born and raised multi-faceted producer, composer and DJ Hector Plimmer, who broke out a decade ago and here blends past and present experiences into a richly intimate world. Review: Saint Abdullah and Eomac is a long-distance hook-up of NYC-based Iranian-Canadian brothers Mohammad and Mehdi Mehrabani and Irish producer Ian McDonnell. Their new record is an evocation of diasporic memory infused with archival Persian pop and raw experimental drums. Bridging cultures and eras as they go, they blur the line between homage and innovation and rework iconic melodies through fractured sampling, SP404 grit, and textured digital precision. Collaborations with Jason Nazary, Aria Rostami, mHz and Raheel Khan deepen its emotionally rich, politically charged appeal and result in a bold document of hybrid musical identities.

Review: This third collaborative album between Scream & P. Rock takes inspiration from a trip to Brazil, where they collected samples in Rio. As such the sounds blend Brazilian grooves, bass synths, live percussion, funky drums, guitar solos and vintage breaks with raw, experimental touches into an album full of life. The duo's signature sound is a fusion of their own DJing and music production and is ever more refined, having been crafted over the course of a year. Cinematic arrangements and a fresh approach to sampling make this another great chapter in this duo's musical story.

Review: In the early 1970s, Dusty Springfield moved to Los Angeles and signed with ABC/Dunhill Records. Her 1973 album Cameo showcased soulful pop but saw limited success and for her 1974 follow-up, For Longing, Dusty collaborated with producer Brooks Arthur in New York and embraced a 1970s singer-songwriter sound. The album featured material from Colin Blunstone, Melissa Manchester, Janis Ian, and Barry Manilow, with contributions from the star-studded songwriters themselves. Emotional exhaustion led Dusty to shelve the album, but it was later released in 2001. Now, all ten tracks make their vinyl debut, including new mixes and the first solo release of 'Corner of the Sky.'

On Jupiter (3:58)
UFO (8:34)
Seductive Fantasy (17:06)
Review: On Jupiter finds American cult heroes Sun Ra and his Arkestra charting bold new orbits in 1979. Their cosmic jazz was again infused with funk, soul and electronic experimentation and was recorded during a wildly prolific stretch in New York. The newly reissued album feels both grounded in groove and untethered from reality. The slinky bounce of 'UFO,' the celestial drift of the title track and the kaleidoscopic sprawl of 'Seductive Fantasy' showcase Ra's expanding sonic vision in real time. As the musical world tilted toward disco and hip-hop, Sun Ra forged his own path by melding deep bass, astral synths and Afro-futurist chants into an otherworldly sound that still feels ahead of its time.

Review: Aachen Jazz Files is a tribute to NABEL Records, a groundbreaking German jazz label active from 1980 to 1994. This new and essential compilation has been curated by Miche and Rainer Truby and highlights NABEL's unique fusion of acoustic jazz, Brazilian rhythms and avant-garde influences. Featuring gems like Monika Linges Quartet's samba-infused grooves, John Thomas & Lifeforce's cosmic explorations and Maria Joao's expressive vocals, this collection captures Aachen's rich jazz heritage from every angle. Though it was once a hidden gem, NABEL's sound has since travelled worldwide and its sophistication and warmth shine through here from a most distinctive era of jazz.

Review: Analog Africa has repressed the highly valued and long since sold-out Congo Funk! Sound Madness From The Shores Of The Mighty Congo River: Kinshasa/Brazzaville 1969-1982. It is a compilation that superbly shows off the raw energy and funkiness of the Congolese rumba scene. This is the country that spawned such as legendary bands as African Jazz, OK Jazz and African Fiesta and it is said that the concert ahead of the legendary Rumble in the Jungle boxing match between Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman is what really set young hopefully musicians on their paths, after they saw James Brown play live. The story of those artists and the labels they released on in the ensuing years is what is told so well here across four sides of vital wax.

Review: Northern Soul is a scene which had many legendary hits, and DJs back in the day would often go to great lengths to protect the name of artists and tunes they played in order to keep a competitive edge over their peers. That gatekeeper is long gone, fortunately, so now anyone can enjoy the best the genre had to offer. This bumper double compilation has done plenty of the hard work for you by compiling 42 more of the finest Northern Soul tracks and they are all must-haves, frankly. The classics flow freely from legends like Stevie Wonder, Dusty Springfield, Freda Payne, Robert Knight, The Supremes, Major Lance and the unforgettable Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet, 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. It's got all the energy, groove and soul you need to keep spinning all night long.

Review: Zambian psych rock trailblazers Witch - formed in 1971 and led by Emmanuel Chanda - endured decades of dormancy but enjoyed a new lease of life over the past few years. This follow up to their 2023 reunion album, Zango, sees them continue their blossoming relationship with the Desert Daze festival's label arm and Partisan Records, which is the label that broke Fontaines D.C. A notable producer of the album is Finland's Jacco Gardner, who has dabbled in myriad projects including an impressive solo career and what he's been able to oversee here is remarkable. The rabble-rousing garage rock opener, 'Kamusale' sees fuzz-laden guitars intertwine with Chanda's raw, energetic command as a frontman and we are quickly cast into their spell. Another highlight is the eye opening 'Queenless King' where a kraut-funk bass groove sets off a free-spirited psychedelic tapestry, bursting with bright ideas and soulful charm.

Review: Aside from his many seminal soul sounds, Bill Withers will always be a favourite of ours for the way he simply quit the music industry once he felt he had said all he had to say. And he never changed his mind, never got lured back for money, instead enjoying quiet retirement. What a set of tunes he left behind though, many of them on this album, Still Bill, including the dark paranoia of 'Who Is He (& What Is He To You?)' the funky licks of 'Another Day To Run' and anguished leads and menacing drums of 'Use Me'. Singles aside, this also plays out as all great albums should, as a coherent and absorbing story from front to back.
