Abacus - "Loisada" (5:14)
Fred P - "States Of Motion" (6:38)
Felipe Gordon - "The Gordon Way" (5:56)
Byron The Aquarius - "When The Freaks Come Out" (feat Computer Jay) (4:40)
Review: Multi-artist EPs have all been all the rage of late, though few can boast quite as strong a line-up of artists as this one from dependable French deep house label Phongramme. It begins with a gorgeous chunk of detail-heavy, sun-splashed electronic deep house brilliance courtesy of Abacus (an artist whose discography also contains outings on Prescription, Innermood and NDATL Muzik) and ends with a vibraphone-solo sporting shuffler from the effervescent Byron The Aquarius and Computer Jay ('When The Freaks Come Out'). Sandwiched in between you'll find two more must-have workouts: the bumpin', brilliant and spiritually uplifting 'States of Motion' by Fred P, and a typically dusty, jazzy and warming number by Colombian hero Felipe Gordon ('The Gordon Way').

Byron The Aquarius - "Tua Su Ra" (6:04)
Nico Lahs - "It's Spelled BARI" (6:23)
Review: French label D3 - which when pronounced in French sounds like their word for Detroit - is a decade old and celebrates the milestone with a special three-part EP series. As has always been the case over that 10 year period, the sounds it serves up are deep and housey. This various artists affair kicks off with AsTreJinkins' slow and propulsive 'Terror' before some nice airy and live sounding broken beats from New Digital Fidelity. Moroka picks up the pace with some hi-tek soul that sounds straight from the Motor City and Byron The Aquarius shows off his mastery of the keys again with a dreamy deep cut 'Tua Su Ra'. Nico Lahs shuts down with a heavyweight beatdown in the form of 'It's Spelled BARI.'

Kai Alce - "Benefit" (NDATL instrumental mix) (5:58)
Byron The Aquarius - "Sun Gods" (5:37)
Review: People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads.

Aquarian Voyage (6:33)
Run Sa (Dimitri Walker live drums) (5:48)
Review: Sound Signature's latest missive comes from Byron The Aquarius, a former Onra collaborator best known for his dusty trips into MPC beat-making territory. Here, the Atlanta-based producer successfully turns his hand to dusty, soul-flecked deep house, peppering the bumpin' groove of "Aquarian Voyage" with a toasty bassline and twinkling Rhodes motifs. It's the kind of hazy, jazz-flecked deep house that Sound Signature has always done better than almost anyone else. Flipside "Run Sa", featuring the fluid and intoxicating playing of drummer Dmitri Walker, is even better, with warm chords draping themselves over snappy snares, hissing cymbals and killer fills.

Review: The seventh release for Parisian label Sampling As An Art comes courtesy of Atlanta's Byron The Aquarius with the Euphoria EP. If you checked Byron's prior 2016 releases for Sound Signature and Wild Oats, you'll know to expect a diverse range of styles all produced with consummate expertise and that's exactly what we have on the Euphoria EP. There's some dusty hip hop joints like on "Intro", Coming To Detroit" and "The Essence" but there's also some real proper deep house. Like when we get treated with the wonderful "The Love Below" which is reminiscent of Fresh 'N Low and the rather KDJ sounding collaboration with S3A "Nights In Tokyo".

Review: We have been big fans of Atlanta talent Byron the Aquarius for years. He spent time making beats in the hop hop world before emerging in the house scene with a uniquely musical style. It is based around his own majestic skills on the keys and comes with dusty, deep beats and cosmic overtones. All four of these new cuts on the new Talknoise label follow that vein with various guests embellishing each one. 'Miss Dat Girl' (dub) is our pick with its heady chords and nice widescreen cinematic feels.

Review: Byron The Aqurius's first outing on House of Underground - a Parisian label run by a co-operative of producers and artists - is a pleasingly expansive affair, with six slices of 'proper deepness' to enjoy. Notably, it boasts a trio of collaborations: a drowsy chunk of ultra-deep soulful house brilliance featuring superb lead vocals from Lailah ('Time To Real'); some sub-heavy sci-fi deep house made in cahoots with Motor City hero Kyle Hall ('Evolution'); and a hook-up with mind-mangling house and techno hero Jordan GCZ (he reverb-laden bass, crispy machine drums, jazzy keys and spacey solos of EP highlight 'Monkeyshop'). Elsewhere, he presents delay-laden, late-night dancefloor dubs of 'People of Kemet' and 'Rain' (a more skippy, US garage-influenced number), and drifts his way through classic deep house pastures on 'Fallenquas'. Impeccable as ever.

Review: Atlanta-based Byron The Aquarius has that innately soulful touch to his music which never tires, and after his The New Beginning album on Shall Not Fade he's appearing on Dutch label Heist Recordings with some plush, funking and bumping house gear that's as classic as it is fresh. Just listen to the way he refines the garage house approach on 'Get Up', at once nailing the sound while giving it a sheen that all imitators fail to capture. There's even some uptempo broken beat which edges towards drum & bass on 'Love', but yet again this is Byron doing Byron - accept no imitations!

Review: Atalanta's Byron The Aquarius has established himself as one of electronic music's most interesting artists. The super skill musician is a virtuoso on the keys and dab hand with making beats. He's got a wide range of sounds in his arsenal and is a perfect fit for the raw, MPC loving Apron label run by Funkineven, which is where lands now. This fulsome EP takes you on a jazz tinged house trip to the edges of the galaxy with far-sighted chords and reflective moods one minute and noodling, funk laced beat pieces the next. It's as high in quality as it is timeless.

Review: We'd say it was a smart move by Shall Not Fade snapping up an EP from Byron The Aquarius, but his track record is so good that there's little or no risk involved. The Atlanta-based producer has yet again delivered the goods, confidently striding crunchy analogue deep house jazziness (the synth-and-piano-laden opener "Feelings Is It Real"), 21st century broken house/jazz-funk fusion (the jacking drum machine fills, Kaidi synth motifs and acid squelch of "Age Of Ultron (featuring MDMA)", spacey deep techno futurism ("Techno Is Black (Respeck)"), woozy deep house warmth ("Falling In Love (Dub)") and intergalactic downtempo beats (classy closing cut "CyBoTrAx").

After a run of serious dispatches on the likes of Wild Oats and Sound Signature, the keys man now dives deep onto the ever-establishing Future Reactions Recordings. Arguably one of his most powerful collections of sounds to date, highlights hang off every silken corner. "Do It Just Like You" is a straight-up majestic jacker with all the right jazz principals and "Feel Like Making Love" more than lives up to its name. Elsewhere "Full Moon" will be a highlight for many thanks to its sultry chords and lamenting talkbox, "Sun Of Gold" fuses staccato keys with Phuture-flecked acid while "Where Is The Love" brings us to a switch-flipping finale with some fly-by-night breaks. Amen.

Review: Byron The Aquarius resurfaced earlier this year after a nine-year absence, delivering the future jazz/deep house fusion of High Life on Sound Signature. This speedy follow-up on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats label is, if anything, even better. Warm, rich, soulful and evocative, it includes six superb cuts. These variously touch on off-kilter modern soul ("Co$mic $hit"), Herbie Hancock-influenced deep house (the jazz-funk synths, woozy chords and smooth beats of "Moments In Life"), intergalactic hip-hop beats (the impeccable "Space N Time"), blissfully Balearic house (the hazy positivity of "The Sun"), and jazz-influenced house rollers ("Better Tomorrow").

Review: We're big fans of Byron The Aquarius here at Juno HQ and it is hard to think why anyone wouldn't be. The master keys man and former hip-hop producer has been turning out a steady and quality stream of deep house deliciousness in recent years and that's what he does again here on US label Toucan Sounds. 'Baddest Behavior' (feat Brandon Markell Holmes) kicks off with chord-laced deep house bliss and a magnificent vocal, 'Freed 4 OG's' (with Coto Loco - feat Rasheeda Ali) is a more lively and percussive jam with more rickety beats and nimble chords and 'I Be Like Dat' brings lovely wet claps and low-key soul to a US garage groove. A series of remixes on the flip seals the deal.

The man with the background making hip-hop for the stars as really excelled in recent times with his always richly musical jams. This new outing is no different: 'Free' (feat Teddy Bryant) lays down solid deep house beats and salts them with soft focus chords and smoky vocals. 'We Still Slaves Out There?' has a dubby groove and more exquisite chords and soulful vocal coos, while two further teriffic tracks 'Slaves Of Reality (feat MDMA)' and 'Lonesome Road We Livin' round out a heartwarming and timeless deep house offering that is cuddly and life-affirming.

Review: Since going solo last year, former Onra collaborator Byron Blaylock has yet to put a foot wrong. Each successive 12" has brought with it a swathe of killer new jams straddling the blurred lines between soul, jazz, hip-hop, deep house and jazz-funk. There's more of the same on Leaving This Planet, the Alabama-raised producer's first EP for the mighty Eglo. So while opener "Song for a Friend" is a superior, jazz-flecked deep house bumper smothered in killer electric piano solos, the track that follows, "Mind, Body & Soul" is a squelchy tech-jazz masterpiece. It's the same story on the flip, as floor-friendly jazz-breaks ("Blow Your Mind") make way for a heady trip into intergalactic jazz-funk territory ("SSDP"). As the worn-out old saying goes, this is "all killer, no filler".

Rock That 808!!! (feat Jordan GCZ) (4:06)
Review: Byron The Aquarius (Byron Blaylock), from Birmingham, Alabama, debuts his latest EP for French Synchrophone sublabel Phonogramme, 'Dey Know Vol. 1'. Topping up an already hugely impressive backlog of releases on the label recently - from the likes of Abacus, Steeve O'Sullivan and Vitess - the producer and water carrier adds to their catalogue for a varied scrubdown of the more militant ends of techno's sonic politic. An impressove sense of variation is achieved on the expositionally minimal 'Black Is Black', which contrasts greatly to the ensuing space-quagmires of 'Dr Devil' and then the crude, bleepy and frank analog sonics of 'Real MF From The Avenue'. Dreamy narrations of local life abound, precluding the closing 'Rock That 808!!!', a track that is far more sophisticated and well-developed in sound than its wilfully blase title might suggest.

His fantastic EP 'Gone Today Here Tomorrow' is a still standout collection of cuts on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats label that now gets reissued on limited orange vinyl 12". Review: Byron The Aquarius is a bastion of quality modern house music and the seance volume f this series on Phonogramme can't come soon enough. It finds the keys master and former hip-hop producer doing what he does best - laying down raw, dusty beats with captivating melodies. 'Co$mic Felacio (Freaking92)' stars with low-slung menace, 'Gift Of Gab' is a bright house stomper with smudged and smeared chords and 'Willie Wonkaaa' has a darker, more unsettling edge and squealing synth lead. 'Akirashi' is a nice chilled-out beatdown to close.

Review: We love to hear from Byron the Aquarius. The US producer is a magician on the keys and also knows how to lay down deep, smoky house beats that brim with soul. His latest comes on Frequencies Rhythm Life out of Italy and opens with the nice and loose drum grooves of 'House Is Black' then 'Is She Here' cooks up a late night vibe with jazzy motifs and swaying claps. 'Atlanta (dub)' strips things down to bare-bones essentials and 'KEMET' brings a more direct sound but is marbled with brilliant percussion and wispy melodies. 'Bamboo Bong' is a nice trippy end to another accomplished outing.

Review: Given that Croatia's Dimensions Festival is one of the most consistently on-point electronic music events around, it figures that their new off-shoot label should regularly hit the spot, too. Certainly, the early signs are good. This second sampler single impresses from start to finish. Occasional L.I.E.S artist Marcos Cabral kicks things off with a fine chunk of fluid, underwater deep house ("Prochainement"), before Byron The Aquarius reaches for the talkbox on the sumptuously deep, soulful, jazz-funk influenced house bliss of "Full Moon". Lady Blaktronika gets things going on side B with the groovy, late night Detroit deep house bump of "Can We Still Be Friends". Arguably best of all, though, is the dreamy, jammed-out analogue deep house warmth of DJ Akmael's "Transit".

On the A-side it's Deenamic on the buttons, previously spotted on Neroli with the likes of Volcov and Marcello Napoletano. His approach to house music is scuffed and bumping around the drums, and full of pure soulful elevation in the synth lines - for a producer from Madrid he sure captures the spirit of Detroit in his production. Now he sidles over to the new Melange label with Byron The Aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. "Eira" is where Byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. The "Demo Mix" of "Eira" resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that's no less satisfying on the ears.

Review: Set up as a continuation of their podcast back in 2008, this Russian label joins the dots between jazz various genres. Footwork House Jam no.1 is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous Moscow-based club night in particular. The idea behind this compilation 'is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on' the label claims. Starting off on the A side with Baltimore legend Karizma and his jagged groove therapy session titled "Church Chords" there's more quality with Brit Nubian Mindz with the glitched out disco house of "Check Da Discotheque" which will contort you even more with its nifty beat repeat effects. On the flip is Intr0beatz with the sexy late night deep house of "That DUB" where he goes for that timeless formula of emotive chords, swing fuelled rhythms and sampled diva vocals to full effect.. but wait for that bassline to drop, like seriously! Finally, Dopeness Galore darling Jacob Otten aka Kid Sublime drops the soulful and life affirming broken beat nu-jazz experiment "Wings Of Love".

Jeff Mills recently announced that he wanted to widen the musical horizons of his Axis label, delivering a more eclectic blend of music made with both traditional instruments and the synths and drum machines he previously favoured. To usher in this new era, the Motor City legend has snapped up a simply brilliant album from Byron the Aquarius. It sees the talented artist add jazz-funk instrumentation (think spacey synth solos, fluid piano lines, breathy flutes and rubbery bass guitar) to a combination of organic and programmed deep house and nu-jazz grooves. It's a brilliantly expansive and spiritual set full of intricate musical details, with highlights including the warming, floor-friendly spirituality of 'Space & Time', the similarly heated 'Spirit of Juju' and the delightful vocal mix of 'Timeless'.

Review: Jeff Mills recently announced that he wanted to widen the musical horizons of his Axis label, delivering a more eclectic blend of music made with both traditional instruments and the synths and drum machines he previously favoured.

Review: After spending three years wowing us with dazzling EPs on Sampling As An Art, Ego, Wild Oats and Sound Signature, Byron The Aquarius is finally ready to drop his debut album. As the title suggests, "Astral Traveling" is a suitably starry affair, with the fast-rising producer wrapping twinkling electronics, dreamy pads, hazy vocals and jazz-funk influences keys around sumptuous deep house grooves, dusty hip-hop beats and pitched-down, post-boogie backing tracks. Highlights include the deep space jazz-funk flex of "Deep In That ***** (feat. MDMA)", the driving Detroit deep house soulfulness of "Sorry Kari (Lu$t)", the jazzy downtempo beats and sultry soul vocals of "My Only Life (featuring Brandon Banks)" and the ultra-deep head-nodding hip-hop of "I Can't Help Myself (U)".
