Needs 006 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: NNFP 006. Rel: 28 May 19
  1. Eris Drew - "See You In Snow" (6:15)
  2. Edward - "Mind Loop" (6:16)
  3. D.Tiffany - "Sun Trip" (7:54)
  4. Henry Hyde - "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim" (6:18)
Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Eggs EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ORN 029.
  1. 313151 (9:15)
  2. 44151 (5:46)
  3. 313154 (5:58)
Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

Review: Detroit Lost Tapes is the third long play of Delano Smith. A collection of unheard and lost tracks from his bulging archives. The tracks were recorded in the early 2000's and carefully restored by Delano and Yossi Amoyal. As you'd expect, the quality threshold is exceedingly high throughout, with the veteran producer delivering cuts that fuse the melodious and dreamy vibes of deep house with the rhythmic snap of Motor City techno.

Review: Cosmic Waves was first released on Pariter back in 2010. The original track is a timeless Detroit groover that conquered many dance floors over the years. Hypnotic rhythm that can be easily compared to Maurizio and other timeless classics. Delano Smith and XDB with two excellent remixes on the B side. A brilliant must have release and perhaps one of the biggest on Sushitech's sub label Pariter. 15th anniversary reissue - white vinyl collectors edition.

Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere Fatum
  1. Killer Loop - "Someone" (Juan Atkins remix)
  2. Terry Brookes - "Breaking Cycles"
  3. MSL - "Limits Of Likeness"
Review: The Sushitech label turned 15 years old in 2020 and to celebrate this milestone Yossi Amoyal has put together the Fluere compilation across four discs, plus this extended fifth part, titled Fatum. Juan Atkins' remix of 'Someone' by Killer Loop takes up residence on the A-side of this three tracker, all swirling, warm pads and spiralling filters, the percussion almost leaning towards disco with its syncopated handclaps, although the overall effect is as shiny and futuristic as you would expect from this Detroit legend. Flip it over for Terry Brookes' 'Breaking Cycles', a calm spoken word narration providing a meditational mantra to accompany the chugging house foundations, full of gentle tease. 'Limits of Likeness' by MSL completes the package with restless electro machinations and shifting clouds of synth floating across its horizon. Sheer bliss all round.

Review: Casey's musical career spans over three decades having taken up producing in 1989 after a love affair with Acid House. He made his vinyl debut in 1990 with fellow city band, Shades of Rhythm (recording under the name Frenzied Bass) on a limited-edition release called The Fenland Bass EP. In 1991 Casey was signed to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 records in Canada, where between 1991 and 1995 he released several singles under the names 0733 and VFT.In 1995 Casey set up his own label, Fine Balance Records, where he released a couple of limited edition melodic Techno EP's under his own name. He has also been releasing on the well acclaimed label "For Those That Knoe".

The Vast Profound on remix duties is Wil Russell (of duo Pop Out And Play), who writes melodic deep house and techno. Wil's previous releases are on labels Alola, Lucky Sun, Opilec, Visitor, Audiophile etc.

Review: Following on from a sell-out first release, Serenity Records returns with a four track double-header from Thoma Bulwer & Anna Wall. In alignment with the label's policy of allowing the artists commissioned to choose a mental-health charity of their choice, 002 dedicates all its proceeds to Centrepoint - an organisation which seeks to combat the ever-growing problem of homelessness. The EP spans across the full spectrum of Techno, with the cuts varying from soft melodic textures, floaty synth work and a B1 that wouldn't stand at all out of place in a peak-time club setting - a nice surprise from this exciting new not-for-profit label...

Review: The brothers OdD return to their self titled label after a two year hiatus with more of that refined, off-centre minimalism they do so well. "Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

Review: Originally released three years ago, this is the collectors reissue as part of Sushitech's 15th anniversary celebrations. Invisibility is the second album of Cristi Cons and Vlad Caia's Sideways Invisibility Theory Project (AKA SIT). This pack containing all the tracks from their album, both chapters one and two, pressed on a limited coloured vinyl. It features a quintet of trippy, low-slung late night workout seemingly designed to operate in the cracks between house and minimal techno. There is a natural subtle variations throughout - a nod to dub techno here, a psychedelic acid line or dreamy deep house texture there - but thought, their focus remains firmly on only early morning workouts - modern classic!

  1. Pythagorean
  2. Do-re-me
  3. Solfeggio
Review: Starting their 2020 with a bang, OdD swiftly follow up their D Construction EP with another trio of reductionist sure shots for adventurous travelers in the minimal realm. "Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. "Solfegio" switches things up with a crooked broken beat template and some pointed chord drops that really lift the track into an intriguing new realm - this is classy minimal with personality so don't sleep on it!

Review: Atmospheric dub-influenced techno from Japan is on the menu tonight. Altone signature sound of minimalistic & hypnotic soundscapes is ever-so present - and despite repetitive mechanical elements, it still feels warm and organic. The four track EP begins with 'Silent Vibration'; a steadfast and unhindered sub harmonies. Its a meditative journey into a rough glacial terrain. 'Drifting Sand' starts off enigmatic & intriguing - with slow chord development and gradual introduction of harmonious pads. The flipside begins with 'Astral'; a dub techno groove-fest with shimmering chords and hazy soundscapes. The final track 'Uninhabited' is a mind-altering voyage into the unknown. Overall this is a must-have for any fans of Basic Channel - or our own previous releases. A dub techno delight.

  3. Jos - "Rituals Of Resistance"
  4. Jos - "The Palace Of Illusions"
Review: For 003, the not-for-profit label offers up a split EP from Innershades & Jos. The Time Passages regular has proven himself with a tally of consistent releases that have aided Innershades in both creating and owning his own sound. At first, the A-Side is certainly more weighty than what we've become to expect with Serenity, but once the synth-work and emotive pads setlle in - it's clear that the Belgian has perfectly balanced both the ethos of the label and his revered own sound. On the flip, we're met with two tracks of equal calibre from EYA head-honcho Jos - 'Rituals of Resistance' continues the theme of moody yet uplifting, before the B2 'Palace of Illusions' expertly wraps up all the elements heard previously in the EP. All proceeds of this EP will be donated to Save the Children, a charity whose work is imperative in current times.

  4. Rubber Stamp (Actress remix)
Review: We kick start the return of Wigflex records with a brand new release from first time flexer and Nottingham's biggest blades fan... Son of Philip.

Inspired by the story of how Cans drummer Jaki Liebezeit was once told to "play monotonous" during the LSD-induced ramblings of a fan; and the experimentation into repetition which followed.

We first heard Rubber Stamp during a wonky walk around Dam in the early hours of the morning, it made perfect sense then and still makes perfect sense now.

King of hazy, crystallised electronics Actress steps things up a notch and takes the ep away from a Hoffman-esque bicycle ride and onto the dance floor.
