Review: A dark Italo compilation not for the faint of heart with the mystery, murder and madness of all that is Giallo. Serving as a soundtrack to a fictitious film Luna Rossa Johnny Jewel of Italians Do It Better fame laces the opening with the breathy arsenic laced "Flesh" as Simple Symmetry's "Il Gatto Nero delivers a disco banger that even samples a cat's heartbeat. Legowelt creeps into lens with "Oberalp Catarsi under his Occult Orientated Crime moniker. Other suspects include Prefuse 73, Antoni Maovvi, Makeup And Vanity Set and Om & Grails member Emil Amos. Lucky dip vinyl with base transparent blood base edition with a red moon marbled rare version. QR code on label for a secret non album track! Limited Edition and will be gone by nightfall.

Review: In celebration of Pride Month, Dark Entries is reissuing Kinga's sultry 1988 synth-pop delight, Sexy Boy. Calgary's Tomas Fussey is the man behind Kinga, a project that embraces androgyny and nightlife flair and is inspired by gender-fluid icons of the 80s, such as Boy George and Janet Jackson, and fuelled by a love of disco and synth-pop. 'Elevator Operator' and the now-iconic B-side 'Sexy Boy' gained unexpected radio play despite its bold style, while a 1989 remix brought slick production, though it didn't hit commercially. Today, its deep grooves feel more relevant than ever and this version features five mixes, original artwork, liner notes, and a vintage press photo of the glamorous, genre-defying Kinga.

Review: The band's companion piece to their debut album, with MDMA-slanted remixes (they were among the first E-dopters) and one new track, was always a strange, thrilling detour that delved deeper into the band's darker side. Reissued now and pressed on pink and blue vinyl, it leans into the playful and hedonistic spirit that fueled the duo's early years. 'Memorabilia' still slams with that proto-industrial funk, drenched in echo and attitude. Their version of 'What?' is gloriously off-kilter, part cabaret, part warehouse rave. Marc Almond's vocals are as dramatic and sly as ever, while Dave Ball keeps the synth lines rubbery and raw. There's a sense of controlled chaos here, where the line between irony and sincerity blurs beautifully. 'Sex Dwarf' is one of the band's most intense moments. A club hit that works today just as good as back in 1982. Even in its more minimal moments, there's a sweaty urgency to these tracks. The whole thing feels like a snapshot of a night that got way out of hand, in the best way possible. While the original album was darker and more introspective, this one lets loose, offering up a lean set of tracks built for movement and attitude. A record that was never afraid to get weird, which suits us down to the ground.

Review: 'Surf Rider', pinpointed among fans for its creeping blend of atmos and synth-led downtempo, exemplified not just Il Est Vilaine's unique style but that of the singular taste of releasing label Dialect. Lumiere were already known in 2015 for enabling artistic freedom, all whilst holding firm to the emission of unblockable audio signals from their native Paris. Il Est Vilaine, meanwhile, laid down this four-track iron stallion shortly after their Dialect Debut 'Scandale'. Circular, sprung guitar plucks and mystery basslines confer a slinky mood, as newcomer Blackly reinterprets the second of the original three tunes on a stimulant B2.

Review: Walhalla's dive into obscure 80s synth pop and new wave has been a resounding success since the first volume 15 years ago. With this third volume, Walhalla drops the "Belgian" label from the title but keeps its roots firmly in the heartland of EBM, industrial and minimal synth. The album opens with two icy pieces from Nostalgie Eternelle. Active since the late 80s, they've finally landed on vinyl, delivering analog minimalism with 'Coup De Grace'. S.M. Nurse follows with a bizarre but compelling sound collage, layered with brittle vocals and wiry textures. Nine Circles return with the desolate and minimalist 'Here Come I, Here Is Me', while Vayne Kaye & Ignit's 'The Heat' brings a sharp post-punk sound. From the tortured electro churn of Experimental Incest's 'Desire' to the political bleakness of The Maniacs' 'Vietnam' and O.B. Minimax's 'Charming War', this volume leans heavier into dystopia. The Misz, always good for a chuckle, come with the coldly hilarious 'Spinach in Kiev'. Closing things out, Unovidual's 'Metal' ends the record in a short, sorrowful wash of synth. As always, each volume has tons of raw, lo-fi and often challenging and rare music to enjoy.

Review: This 2xCD edition goes well beyond nostalgia, offering the definitive take on Soft Cell's most illicit and club-focused chapter. Originally released in 1982 their second album was a bold pivot: less of the noir cabaret that had its roots in their Leeds Poly days, more MDMA-drenched disco detachment. But what felt fleeting at the time now reads like a fully formed vision. The first disc captures the original six-track run, including a furious remake of 'Memorabilia', the twisted funk of 'Sex Dwarf' and their glam-stomp take on 'What' i a track that somehow hit Number Three in the UK while sounding like it belonged in a haunted backroom. The second disc expands the picture with extended cuts like 'Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go' and 'Torch', all of which showcase how Soft Cell flirted with pop but refused to smooth their edges. It's a new reissue, but more importantly, it's a reminder of just how ahead of their time they were i turning sleaze into sophistication and dancefloor detritus into poetry. Digitally remastered and packed with rarities, this is as complete a portrait of Soft Cell's ecstatic peak as you'll find.

Review: Released in 2012 to much comeback acclaim, John Foxx & The Maths' Evidence is one of few 2010s synth records whose brilliance doesn't require an evidence base. The long admired collaboration of Foxx (Ultravox) and Benjamin Davis Edwards (Benge), the 2012 incarnation saw the lineup addition of electronicist Hannah Peel, which is likely the reason behind a good chunk of its exploratory darkness, away from the earlier electropop attempts of Interplay and The Shape Of Things. Foxx's vocals ex-aspirate, in and out, like iron lungs, as modular moods pitter away in sequential automotion.

Review: French Mahres sublabel Chandelle welcome two crazed newcomers to their darksynth techno fore, Stigma and Accessible Limits, both of whom are new to the game and yet make a precisely torturous, grotesque techno smash here. Thumbscrews tighten and stretching racks widen, as exquisite vanitas cover art tots up the second release in a series, which sees a differently coloured inner label depict an obscene objet d'enfer. Stigma insists we 'Take This Gun' on the A-side, hatching a devilish plan to city-map and computerise the underworld, while Accessible Limits somehow manages to chill the everlasting flames found thereunder with 'Dave Smith Va Estar Aqui' and 'Sant Roc Es Analogic', two tube-tastic flareups with a moodier feel compared to the A.

Review: Originally released in April 2017, this is a reissue that reaffirms the album's pivotal role in modern darkwave. Crafted by Sydney-based Marc Dwyer, Chroma pulses with a brooding energy that fuses stark minimalism with unexpected pop leanings. Across its runtime, jagged synths and relentless drum programming frame a series of emotionally charged compositions, each one dissecting states of isolation, longing, and inner turbulence. Far from being just a genre exercise, Chroma pushes the boundaries of synth wave and post-punk, threading glimmers of melody through layers of tension and shadow. Dwyer's delivery is cold and commanding, yet there's an underlying vulnerability in how he constructs each track, always rooted in personal reflection but never static. The production is raw but intentional, giving it an immediacy that still hits with force today. Since its release, Chroma has gained a cult following, inspiring peers in the darker corners of electronic music. With two additional albums and several international tours under his belt, Dwyer has grown into a spectral mainstay of the global goth underground. The long-awaited reissue brings Chroma back into circulation where it belongs. Restored, relevant and just as magnetic as it was eight years ago.

Review: The second solo release from Hampshire-born singer and producer Alison Goldfrapp - that's provided you don't count her seven Goldfrapp albums - finds her leaning deeper into synthetic shimmer, sharp hooks and a kind of gleaming melancholy that feels both new and oddly familiar. Co-produced with Richard X and Stefan Storm, it's a glossy, laser-cut suite of synth pop that takes cues from her Supernature-era magnetism but turns the focus inward. Where previous work leaned theatrical, this time around there's a crack in the mirrorisomething tender showing through. Lead single 'Find Xanadu' sets the tone with a serotonin-drenched strut, but it's not all mirrorball sparkle. Underneath the high-gloss production lies a kind of emotional tension, most clearly felt in the quieter, slower tracks that trade euphoria for unease. The songwriting is sharper, more vulnerable, even as the sonics remain pristine. It's a brand new release, arriving via her own A.G. Records imprint and one that makes clear she's not coasting on legacy. If anything, the distance from her old duo has sharpened the edges. Still seductive, still in full command, but with less artifice and more acheiproof that pop doesn't need reinvention to feel revelatory. Just honesty, timing and a well-placed synth arpeggio.

Review: A key figure in 80s electronic pop as the voice of Dusseldorf's Propaganda - early ZTT signees alongside Art Of Noise and Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Claudia Brucken helped define a particular strand of sharp, cinematic synth music with unsmudgeable singles like 'Duel' and 'Dr Mabuse'. She now returns with Night Mirror, her first solo album in nearly a decade and a continuation of the creative partnership with producer (but not the Star Wars soundtracker) John Williams. Written in London across 2023-2025, the record deals in clear-eyed optimism and the emotional afterglow of looking back, with the likes of 'Rosebud' and 'Sincerely' emphasising wide-scope room acoustics and divey synthpop, live-and-die wild-west guitar licks effortlessly mingling with tender arpeggios.

Review: Gwenno Saunders speaks a new language on Utopia, her fourth solo album and the first predominantly in English. Spanning 25 years of life experience, it sifts through decades of reinvention: Las Vegas dancer at 16, Bollywood bit-part, indie pop cult star with The Pipettes, post-party Londoner, not to mention sometime pub cleaner. If earlier records like Y Dydd Olaf, Le Kov and Tresor pulled from the mythic and maternal, Utopia zeroes in on the chaotic in-between, when she wasn't yet a wife or mother, just Gwenno in flux. The techno of her Vegas years haunts 'Dancing On Volcanoes'; domesticity and dislocation circle 'St Ives New School' and '73'. Written mostly on piano and recorded live at home with longtime producer Rhys Edwards, it's a reckoning of memory, chaos and making sense of youth once it's long gone.

Review: By the time they got to their fifth album, Liverpool synth pioneers OMD were deep into their glossy, technicolor phase and this reissue of Junk Culture brings all the sharp edges and weird charms back into focus. It's a record that manages to be sleek and experimental at once, balancing pop hooks with a slightly offbeat sense of rhythm and sound. 'Tesla Girls' is manic in the best way, bursting with punchy synth stabs and that hyperactive vocal delivery. 'Locomotion' smooths things out with a more laid-back groove, still very much dancefloor-ready but built on bounce rather than rush. Then there's 'Talking Loud and Clear,' which leans softer, airy and romantic without slipping into cliche. The deeper cuts keep things interesting with 'Love & Violence' and 'White Trash' which feel darker and more cryptic, like glimpses behind the polished exterior. Even when it flirts with radio-friendliness, the record never really plays it safe. This album links the early electronic experimentalism to the polished and slick synth pop that would take OMD to a household name with the following album. Sometimes an overlooked album in their catalog but always respected for the work within. It's a snapshot of a band pulling synthpop in new directions, not afraid to get playful or strange.

Review: Aryan Ashtiani aka Mareux takes a messier, relatively impulsive route on his second album Nonstop Romance. Out of Los Angeles, the contemporary darksynth producer swaps “sleek" for a wilder, bit-ducted swoon, like a love note smeared underfoot. Where his earlier work flirted with icy control, the likes of 'Wild At Heart’ and ‘Ebene Fume’ flounces to the beeline of obsession, intoxicated and unfiltered. It’s romantic to the point of rupture: drum machines stammer, vocals slip between croon and cry, synths blur into feedback. His debut Lovers From The Past felt coldly curated, while Nonstop Romance is its unruly inverse.
