Review: Since launching in 2021, the Ohm Series has brought us swathes of immersive dub techno works from the Scandinavian perspective. With artists like Thor attached to earlier instalments, this VA run comes with an assurance of quality which maintains on part six. Whether it's the billowing clouds and minimal house shuffle of 'Syntax' by Sirko Muller or the fluid techno pulse of Shcuro & Vil's 'Fluxus', this is a masterclass in the style from artists who know how to evoke those tundra-like soundscapes within a sophisticated dance music framework.

Varg - "So Many People Trying To Be Unique (But They Still Remind Me Of Loke Rahbek)" (5:30)
Newa - "Black Eyebrows Are Indefferent" (5:49)
Review: The first single on Georgian label Bassiani invited the likes of HVL and Vril to contribute, and now they turn to another selection of imposing techno auteurs for further exploits in dark realms. Avi Musaifi's "Qarva" is imposing enough on its own as an EP opener, but then Abdullah Rashim steps up with a remix that becomes a masterclass in eerie tension thanks to icy swells of drone and an unforgiving line in hi-hats. Varg is feeling feisty on the bass-growling "So Many People Trying To Be Unique (But They Still Remind Me Of Loke Rahbek)", but Newa attempts to soothe the situation with a pleasingly delicate yet energetic techno workout.

Review: The Thama Series begins with Eclipse of Existence which has eight deep and energetic techno tracks from talented artists split into two episodes. This sonic journey unfolds as a vibrant dance of rhythms and is inspired by a celestial event. The project reflects the Moon's partial shadow on the Sun; the umbra never touches Earth, only the penumbra does. As a gust of wind carries a mysterious energy, it evokes the sensation of this natural phenomenon. This blend of sound and inspiration results in something that allows you to immerse in a transformative sonic experience.

VNZO - "Relax Ya Self" (8:18)
NMSS & JJuan - "Keep Groovin'" (7:17)
Zolaa - "Fao-Mao" (6:36)
Review: Happily, Neo Violence's third label sampler contains some real gems. It begins with Niro's "Nazca", a distinctively spacey affair that brings together echoing, dub techno style synthesizer motifs, shuffling tech-house drums and chords seemingly beamed down from another galaxy. VNZO's woozy "Relax Yourself" continues the fusion vibe (think ultra-deep Motor City techno mixed with dusty deep house), before NMSS and Jjuan pepper a cowbell-laden broken house groove with swirling chords and late '80s hip-house vocal samples. Another rock solid EP is drawn to a close via the rubbery, post-electro rhythms, darting bass and dreamy pads of Zolaa's standout "Fao-Mao".

Review: If the Spanish know how to keep one thing alive, it's community; in the spirit of this truth, Xuntaza, the name of Fanzine's latest EP series, is a Galician word that means 'the action of gathering of a group of people to discuss an issue or have fun'. Not overthought beyond the simple xuntanzing of its brightest artists, Vol. 1 in the series functions as a fantastic meeting point between dub techno, tech house, and experimental electro.

Post Traumatic Son (Robert Hood remix)
Post Traumatic Son (DVS1 Pessimist mix)
Post Traumatic Son (DVS1 Optimist mix)
Review: Blueprint return to one of their most popular remix packages of the Ruskin and Regis mind melter "Post Traumatic Son" from last year with a standard black vinyl reissue of the Rob Hood and DVS 1 revisions that originally appeared on limited clear vinyl. Typically, the Detroit legend rattling industrial version still does not disappoint some 18 months on, the jagged rhythmic textures and schizophrenic machine funk flourishes underpinned by welterweight drum punches that group into off kilter sections intermittently. The overwhelming sensation is disorientating, while the final bass drum throb proves to be quite menacing. Equally the two varying takes from US producer DVS1 still stand up today; the Pessimist mix is characterised by dream-like textures that form the backdrop to an undulating dub techno groove that ripples with metallic intent. Naturally, the Optimist mix offers a contrastingly upbeat, if somewhat glacial throbber of a version.

Post Traumatic Son (Ben Klock techno mix)
Post Traumatic Son (Ben Klock Wave mix)
Post Traumatic Son (Ben Klock Vibe mix)
Review: O/V/R's "Post Traumatic Son" was one of the tracks of last year if you like your techno dusty and rusty, and Ruskin and Regis flexed their big name credentials here by enlisting Ben Klock to add his own perspective to the track. Just for the 'kraic', the vested one has decided to produce three remixes, all of which are naturally covered in essentialness! Klock's Techno mix stretches across the A Side, a merciless locked groove of stomping, menacing syncopated textures with no concessions for anything as throwaway as a breakdown. This is rattling, heads down industrial darkness at its finest. The flipside offers Klock the opportunity to experiment, with the Wave Mix, stripping back the track to a skeletal electro twitch, gradually accruing a haunting gloss via the ascending, foreboding synths. In contrast to this, the final Vibe mix drenches "Post Traumatic Son" in an all consuming psychedelic lustre, with the originals synths laid atop gently jacking beats and a delightful array of bleeps and beeps with the resultant effect truly hypnotic.

Review: After treating us to no less than three varying but equally brilliant remixes of "Post Traumatic Son" from Ben The Vest Klock, Blueprint further flex their impressive contacts credentials by enlisting Robert Hood to tackle the Ruskin and Regis mind melter. Typically, the Detroit legend does not disappoint with a rattling industrial version that's all jagged rhythmic textures and schizophrenic machine funk flourishes underpinned by welterweight drum punches that group into off kilter sections intermittently. The overwhelming sensation is disorientating, whilst the final bass drum throb proves to be quite menacing. On the flip US producer DVS1 offers two varying takes on the track; the Pessimist mix is characterised by dream-like textures that form the backdrop to an undulating dub techno groove that ripples with metallic intent. Except In Dreams (5:27)
Review: When Blueprint announced they had some special releases lined up to celebrate their 20th anniversary, hardcore fans of the British techno label will surely have hoped this would include some new O/V/R material from Ruskin and Regis. Such dreams have been granted as the pair deliver this three-track salvo of focused, tunnelling and pummelling techno. "Easy Prey" finds Regis and Ruskin on top of their game, slowly crafting a cacophony of looped techno that will sound deadly on the right system. Complementing this, "Everyday Impulse" squares down some mind-bending loops over a more restrained rhythmic patter with "Except In Dreams" offering an alternate take.

James Ruskin - "Live Rhythm Separate"
Karl O'Connor - "Live Tonal Separate"
Review: Some strictly limited edition white label heat here, as James Ruskin and Karl O'Connor deliver two sides of recordings from a recent London live show. The A-Side, featuring James Ruskin's "Live Rhythm Separate" is a combination Ruskin's classic track 'Work' alongside the blunted rhythms of Kalon's 'Man Is The Superior Animal', offering all enveloping bass and metallic machine persussion. The B-Side features a live version of Karl O'Connor's "Live Tonal Separate", an ambient track whose moody pads and bubbling samples make an excellent beatless intro/outro tool, as well as an immersive listening experience. And if there's any worry about the quality of the tracks being compromised given these are live recordings, then don't; the tracks are as crisp as any of their studio work.

Crippled Nurse (& Water)
Review: O/V/R is the side project of Regis and James Ruskin...need we say more? The two UK techno heavyweights combine for their second EP on Ruskin's Blueprint label, with title track "Post-Traumatic Son" carrying a menacing techno throb throughout, with eerie hi-hats creeping in from all directions. Flip over for the grumbling sub bass of "Descending The Left Corner" and the truly unsettling sonic exploration that is "Crippled Nurse (& Water)". This is an absolute must for fans of the Sandwell District, Equalized and Horizontal Ground school of techno.

Clatterbox - "Aspect Ratio" (5:41)
Shanti Celeste - "Lights" (4:52)
Polzer - "Static Rectifier" (4:56)
Via App - "From Across The Room" (3:44)
Review: To complement Objekt's masterful 36-track session for their irregular Kern mix series, Tresor have put out two self-explanatory 12" samplers. Kern Vol. 3: The Exclusives sees contributions from accomplished electro technicians Clatterbox and Polzer as well as Bristol's rising Shanti Celeste and Via App of 1080p fame. "Aspect Ratio" from Clatterbox and Celeste's understandably incandescent "Lights" both feature in a movement on the mix that is a real highlight of Kern Vol. 3, but DJs will be happy both have been pressed her for full club play. On the B-side, the swift and snappy metallic tunnelling of Polzer's "Static Rectifier" could be mistaken for an angry DJ Stingray, whilst Via App's "From Across The Room (Edit)" is a more playful, if pensive affair.

Las Modelos (Octobers 12 month dub) (9:14)
Review: Brooklyn's Voodoo Down Records, part run by the always excellent L'estasi Dell'oro, has kept close to a few key artists since they're first releases back in 2012, namely Germany's STL and Bristol's October. The latter returns to the label and this time he's joined by the mysterious Voodoo Down himself - an alias we are yet to unmask - with two certified floor-shakers; the first, "Las Modelos", is a chord-heavy, dubwise house thriller with a crunchy yet clean analogue sound, and the flipside sees October himself turn in a masterful dub version of the original, minimizing the chords down to their bare bones and bolstering the low-ends considerably. An effective pair of tunes for the dancefloor.

Review: It has been a rather remarkable three years since Yuko dropped its first release, but finally, they are back with more. It is co-founder Emo Omar who features both solo and in collaboration with Luje from Club Pizza while two exciting new French talents Chud and Vivant also make their mark. 'Pollen' is a bright and hooky melodic electro sound then 'You & Me' gets more percussive, with old school cow bells staying busy next to all sorts of wonky synth work. 'Tomorrow's Made Of Breaks' is built on rigid funk and trippy synth bleeps and 'Zeus' shuts down with some retro-future vocoder vocals. This is a great return from a label we hope now pushes on.

It features tracks taken from the full length comp of the same name - the rest will no doubt come on their own wax later - and opens with a 10 minute recording by Orphx and JK Flesh (Justin Broadrick) that is taken from a live show they did in Amsterdam. Vofa's 'Agosame' is another thrilling bit of blistering, lo-fi techno and Fragedis goes hard with the brutalist drums and dark, caustic textures of 'Disillusion.'

Review: Since launching six years ago, Bristol radio station Noods has become something of an online institution, with pleasingly experimental-minded shows from local music heads being joined by essential guest shows from up-and-coming DJs and producers from around the world. Earlier this year they finally launched their own label, which aims to showcase new talent, and here deliver a superb mini-album that was initially intended to drop on the station's fifth birthday. There's much to enjoy, from the murky, dub-wise percussion-fest that is Ossia's 'Drum Tangle' and the break-neck, post-jungle insanity of 'Static Whip' by Katatonic Silencio, to the psychedelic ambience of Ployer Fower's 'Aguries of Innocence' and the gently melodious, sub-heavy shuffle of Cleyra's 'Twined'.
