Enlightenment Is Now (6:02)
Enlightenment Is Now (12Tree remix) (6:49)
Review: Hot Piroski Records have been on something of a hiatus for the last year or so but now make a welcome return with a new EP series. This collaborative affair is the result of an epic journey in an old Mercedes from London to Gunjur and finds label head Robin 12Tree working with The Gambia and Bongo Koi as Gambian Disco Express. 'Enlightenment is Now' marks their first release on Hot Piroski Records and it comes with vocals from Gambian mystic Rev. Joseph N'Gole, recorded on the banks of the River Gambia. This one has already been hammered by Psychemagik, Pete Herbert, and Severino from Horse Meat Disco so it comes quality assured.

Review: Though 420 was originally recorded and released in April of 2020, Galcher Lustwerk's pandemic project is an exercise in counting and patience. Originally from a 16 track, 69 minute release only available for Bandcamp for $69 (or $4.20 per track), the 420 project brings us practically brand spanking new Galcher EP, just under a different name. Finally at an accessible price (and including signature Galcher vocals in a majority of the tracks to boot) this vinyl release hopes to bring more fans who missed the original release to the 420 club.

Review: Watergate, the cult Berlin club known for its riverside location and legendary LED ceiling above the dancefloor, is also a reputable tech house label that deals in fresh names only. Here it is 8Kays that makes a debut with Falling Down, a selection of superb collaborations including 'Matematica' with Glowal which is tense and electric tech with indie vocals and with Juan Hansen he cooks up the medically hopeful 'Falling Down' which then gets two remixes. Colyn & Beswerda make it into a moody and deep groove, Chris Avantgarde brings some peak time prog energy and solo cut 'Lyra' has a warm, paddy broken beat to cruise on through the stars.

Review: It's time to take your first steps into the Kulture Galerie, a new label that kicks off with a various artists offering which lays out is sonic mission in clear and compelling terms. This new venture from Metropolitan Soul Museum kicks off with the super fluid and liquid house sounds of Abdul Raeva's 'Grace' before Gene Tellem's 'Nervous Planet' gets all misty eyed and downtempo with a lush deep thinker. Nesa Azadikhah's 'Fleeting Emotions' then sets off a nice minimal vibe that is super warm and fuzzy and Alien D's 'Heavy Cream' is a float, breakbeat driven post-rave comedown.

Acid Mondays - "Fomo"
Sean Thomas - "Fantasizer"
DJ Ali - "Park Your Mind"
Garry Todd - "Dice Me Up"
Review: You know when a vinyl arrives with dizzying artwork, artist names like Acid Mondays and track titles like "Dice Me Up" that you've simply gotta give it a listen. And so it proves here, with the debut release on Illusion Recordings. First up Acid Mondays - aka Dan Ward - drops "Fomo", which effortlessly weaves beefy club drums, piston-pumping chords, cleverly arranged vocal snippets and a bulging bassline for house jam that winks knowingly towards the old school. This shares the A-Side with Sean Thomas's "Fantasizer", with the Philly producer locking in a groove that wallows in the deep end. DJ Ali and Garry Todd share the honours on the flip, with the former opting for a crisp tech house flex while the latter goes for an 80s e-funk tip, utilising a killer disco sample along the way. A nice debut for Illusion - more of the same please!

Review: Ernesto Altes and Guillermo Morro made a name for themselves with their productions on Weekend Records and their sublabels. Their debut on DPress Industries came in 2004 with the Fusion EP - an excellent piece of work that put DPress on the international deep house scene. Now they're back with "Matine EP" where they maintain their deep side while combining trance and tech house elements. The B side takes them on their most minimal side, elevating their sound to something along the lines of John Tejada's click house.

In The (Last) Moment (Robag Ponk Pramen NB remix) (8:02)
Review: Barcelona-based tech house heroes Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito are back. This time for Damian Lazarus' esteemed Crosstown Rebels imprint with "In The (Last) Moment". The track is equally esoteric as it is atmospheric in the tradition of the label's new sound and perfect for drifting. The woozy, journey like aesthetic is only intensified by Georgia Lewis' hypnotising vocal efforts. On the lip we've got added dance floor drama and cerebral stimulus courtesy of the master himself Robag Wruhme; who as always turns in an emotive and bittersweet epic on "In The (Last) Moment (Robag Ponk Pramen NB remix)" complete with his trademarks: glitchy sound design, beautiful string arrangements and the usual Midas touch for pure deepness.

Review: Houseum goes from strength to strength; from a highly respected online channel they've started hosting awesome intimate events in the heart of their Parisian hometown and now they've launched a label. If you've spent so much as five minutes on their platform, you'll know the vibes on offer here; deep dreamy house laced with cosmic textures, rippling soul and a strong sense of timelessness. From the big vocal salvo of Bellaire's "Oh" right through to the final dubby echoes of Jesse Bru's "Setup", this is exactly the high level of launch release you'd expect from such a respected platform. Houseum is a feeling. A good feeling.

The full original project is a complete 12-track album that brings together many different sounds, scenes and generations, with the best bits now assembled on this new 12". The revered deep house master Fred P opens up with some texture spiritual synth depths, K-Lone brings some nice house swing to his version of 'Paline' and edit maestro Rahsaan also keeps it paired back and late night on his soulful take on 'Scent Of An Old Life'. Generation Next - "Like Father, Like Son" (feat Big Strick)
Review: Like Father, Like Son sees Big Strick and his prodigious son Generation Next team up for a split 12" showcasing this pair of criminally underappreciated Detroit producers. "Rain Dance" sees the elder of the two deliver a deep techno journey filled with abstracted textures and organic chimes that sound, while the young Generation Next shows a remarkable maturity beyond his years on "And You Too", where sparse, subtle chords and the simplest of melodies drift by on a light rhythm. On "Like Father, Like Son" the two pair up for the most gently uplifting of deep piano jams. Just like pretty much everything on 7 Days Entertainment, this is some nigh on essential material.

BLM - "Garage Is Back" (vox)
Review: Having begun the New Year with the blink and you'll miss it rattle of Drake & Griffith's "Devils Eye's" - notable for a great remix from newcomer Bleak - Fear Of Flying revisit that track and another of their recent highlights on this sleekly presented twelve inch. Matthew Styles takes on the dusted vocal minimalist handclap heavy simplicity of BLM's "Garage Is Back" on the A Side, slowing down the vocal from Suz and implementing a low hypnotic bass throb which lends the track a new kind of energy - slightly menacing and more suited to a techno environment. On the flip, BLM remixes the aforementioned "Devils Eyes", retaining the Schatrax jack sensation of the original collaboration between the Peace Division and Tsuba dons, but flushes the surroundings with a raft of reverberating and slightly dystopian sonic textures.

Review: Prognose has sniffed out another collection of retro-future minimal tech house gems here with four artists offering up one track each for this third new outing. Boss Priester's 'Let The Kids Play' is a nice loopy opener with smooth drums and cool synths that have hints of cosmic magic. Jesse Jacob gets more unsigned with the surging 90s bassline and groggy chords of 'Time To Undust This Machine' then Garouda's' 'All The People' has a bit of a garage shuffle as it hurries on through the stars. Distilled Noise' 'Agape' does some freaky things with filtered vocals and skittish percussion.

Review: Ron Wilson's 777 serves up more raw and rusty house jams on a new various artists sampler entitled Internal Affairs: this is serious! On the A side is newcomer Brighton with "Tesla" (Leaves Remix), while Frankfurt's Orson Wells gives us "Ratio" where Saarbruckens finest: Roger 23 gets on the remix and delivers a lush deep acid rendition this side of Tin Man. On the flip, Leaves returns with the impressive "Third Floor" getting an awesome remix by Pablo Mateo; working those drum computers to impressive effect as always. Finally, Orson Wells stays on too; working the nightshift on his remix for Glyn's "Kevin Lomax" and giving it a lo-fi, neon lit makeover that will appeal to retroverts dancing well into the morning at Robert Johnson next Sunday morning.

Review: Flexi Cuts is a young label but already one with a great sound. For the sac and time here they dip into their vast pools of talent for a Velvet Series various artists compilation. It is Brine who kicks off with spraying acid synths and clicking beats that are deep but impactful. Daughters & Sons then sink into a lush and dreamy Italo-house reverie and Manuold brings some prickly beats and old school acid to his lo-fi house. The smoky and basement styled house continues on the reverse but it is Glove Hands who steals the show with a dreamy downtempo lullaby for late night lovers.

Review: Big Strick's 7 Days Entertainment welcomes the boss man's own off-spring Butterbandz and Generation Next to the label and both serve up a fresh pair of cuts. Butterbandz opens up with 'Perfect Numb' which is a deep Detroit house jam with signature dusty drums and menacing basslines. 'Rain Man' lifts its head with broad chord work swirling around a more suspensory house cut with steely tech drums. The same lovable lo-fi aesthetic defines the flip with Next's 'Roxbury' layering up piano chords and lush pads over crispy drums and 'Whatever Major Loser' then closes out in raw, punchy fashion. Acid lines and simple but effective chords take centre stage as the pulsing bass never lets up. Pure Motor City goodness all around.

When its next experiment resulted in the unlikely meeting of Running Back's Gerd Janson and PETS Recordings duo Catz 'N' Dogz, they knew they were in for a rare treat. Taking the very best of classic house motifs, mixed in with neon-lit nu-disco thrills, 'Modern Romance' is a tune we can expect to hear burning up living room dancefloors throughout the early part of 2021, with its infectious vocal and Mark Barrott (International Feel) helping out with some piano work. Review: We're Going Deep do it again on a nicely varied four tracker featuring talents old and new. Cignol's 'Late Night Traverse' is a brilliantly designed cut with a loopy lead melody phrase that is going nowhere in a hurry over a nice meandering bassline. Armec's 'Celestial Mechanics' is a tougher electro tinged beat with industrial textural references and then Jared Wilson does what he does best. Acidddddd. Gilbert rounds out with a thoughtful and pensive cut that will have you gazing off into the multi-verse as his ticking hits and elastic bass keep things moving.

Here we're treated to two more fresh takes on cuts from that essential LP. On side A, DJ Spinna gives his 'galactic soul' take on 'New World Shuffle', re-imagining the track as a languid but floor-friendly fusion of cosmic soul, neo-boogie, deep house and contemporary jazz-funk electronics. Equally as impressive is former Ron Trent protege Anthony Nicholson's remix of 'Inner Light', where twinkling jazz pianos, spacey synth sounds, evocative synth-strings and Raashan Ahmad's fine spoken word vocals rise above a sumptuous and luxurious deep house groove.

Review: Something of an all-star affair here, as Sacred Rhythm main man Joaquin "Joe" Clausell sprinkles some of his remix magic over 'Inner Light', one of the standout cuts from Nicola Conte and Gianluca Petrella's 2021 album People Need People. Whereas the original was a richly percussive, dubbed-out future jazz-goes-dub house affair, Clausell's versions are warmer, looser, jazzier and deeper. Check first the A-side 'Cosmic Arts Version', where Rasahan Ahmad's poetic spoken word vocal rises above broken beats, layered jazz horns, warm bass, glistening guitar kicks and warming electric piano keys. The flipside 'Cosmic Arts Version' is, if anything, even better, delivering dubbed-out percussion, mazy trumpet solos and trippy effects aplenty. In a word: essential!

Inaugurating their new label is Crackazat (from Uppsala, Sweden) with his 80's pop- house excursion "Lindop Circles" (which is so lovably cheesy) and Saine with the deep and sexy slo-mo disco of "Prime Chops". The US legend has been finding the most sensuous and emotive sounds for decades, not only as a producer but also as a label boss. His House of Chez label cooks up some more goodness here with his own collab with H2H opening up with mystic Middle Eastern melodies drifting over smooth beats. Damian Rausch's remix then brings something more heavy and El Kazed heads off to the stars on waves of cosmic synth lushness. Last of all is Italo legend Giorgio Morderer with the gloriously soulful 'Engery.'

Makez - "Rocket Music" (5:15)
Alkalino - "Rio" (Alkalino rework) (5:30)
Gledd - "Sere Yo" (5:31)
Review: Adeen Records returns with a superb EP that blends a classic with three new and fresh unreleased tracks. Deep house don Chez Damier's Panorama Bar Remix kicks off and is a a 2021 standout with a killer baseline and Spanish guitar that brings some sunny soul and makes for some top level house grooves. Makez then shines with 'Rocket Music' which has a chunky low end and glistening, golden piano chords making it a late night favourite. On the B-side, Adeen regular Alkalino delivers a tropical-infused edit for the peak time and Gledd closes with a classy cut 'Sere Yo' that is all about the drums. Lovely stuff.

Review: Monday Morning is back to roll out some more lush house depths with a second EP, this one featuring founder Manuel De Lorenzi in the company of his pals Giacomo Silvestri, Freddie Wall and Fichs. 'Sun-Rise' is a nice gritty but vibey opener with percussive skip and dry hits. Fichs's solo cut is a loopy workout with nice bulbous synths and a pared-back rhythm that gets ever more inescapable while De Lorenzi then offers up the radiant synth warmth and dubby undercurrents of minimal house shuffler 'You Already Know It.' With Giacomo Silvestri he then closes on the more percussive loops of soft house soother 'The Big Apple Community.'

Aroy Dee - "Leegte" (5:29)
Gilbert - "Furthest Planet" (7:26)
Jonski - "Venusian Surface" (6:23)
DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit" (5:56)
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

The Devil's Eyes (Christopher Rau remix)
The Devil's Eyes (original)
The Devil's Eyes (Bleak's Bete Noire remix)
Review: Justin Drake from Peace Division teams up again with Canadian Tsuba artist Kevin Griffiths for some throwback jacking techno business on Fear Of Flying. "The Devil's Eye" begins in quite simple fashion, dropping dubbed stabs over a booming kick; it's when the driving warm bass hits that you're hooked. From here the duo etch out a mid 90s Schatrax jacking groove which locks in for the duration. Smallville's Christopher Rau and newcomer Bleak are called on to remix the track, with the former retaining the jacking beats though twisting them towards something approaching deep house, with some gloriously warm pads rising to the fore as the track progresses. In contrast Bleak reimagines the track as a dark stomp through the machinations of peak time techno punctuated by a reverberant rhythmic thrust akin to the tracks on his debut for Sudden Drop.

Review: Perhaps the greatest production to date from Derrick Thompson (aka Drivetrain), "Desert Sky Remixes" covers all of Thompson's most acclaimed music styles. "Desert Heat" is a deep house anthem, showcasing the lush, vocal perfection of Genevieve. A musical portrait of tribal beats, breathtaking orchestration and Latin inspiration. "Desert Moon" bangs an aggressive techno rhythm track, rumbling sub-bass and rich melodic arrangements, putting this track in a league of its own. "Desert Love" closes the trio with a majestic downtempo string performance on top of classical instrumentation of awe-inspiring proportions.

Review: Titonton Duvante's Residual imprint operated out of Columbus, Ohio from the late eighties to the mid-nineties as mainly a vehicle for his own works, but also other legends of the US such as John Tejada, Boo Williams and Todd Sines. He's kickstarted the label again and he's doing it in style with a new track on the A side "Concupiscent": a darkly emotive serving of broken beat high tech soul. Hamburg's Smallville affiliated pursuer of modern deepness Christopher Rau gives us the sublime minimal groove of "Russian Cartoons" too. On the flip, another legend of US techno; Seattle's Jeff Samuel makes a comeback, on the uplifting and funky feelgood groove "WT Fader". Finally Chicago's Garrett David, resident at Smart Bar and buyer at Gramaphone Records gives us the Jeff Mill's tribute "Stasis"

Review: Ten Lovers Music hit their quarter century of releases with a various artist compilation they are calling 'Best Of.' They're not wrong to be fair, with a magnificent 11 minute spiritual house workout from Erik Escobar kicking things off. It's a hard act to follow but Cormac Fulton does so by sinking you down into a lush, jazz-licked groove with swirling and romantic pianos. Lorenzo Dewberry rolls out the cosmic house grooves for a life-affirming trip to the stars and GeeW's 'MarshMellow' keeps it classy with plenty of soft tones, warm chords and seductive sax lines.

Review: Aaron Siegel's Fit moniker links up with the considerable talents of Gunnar Wendel (better known as Kassem Mosse) for this killer two-tracker on FXHE, and even Omar S gets in on the action with some mixdown assistance. "Track 1" works around sizzling drums, emotive bass and a diverse spread of melodic sources for a simple and direct slice of analogue house. "Track 2" is a real carpet-burn of a track, taking the quality up to a new level with a gorgeous line in lead synths moulded into a thoroughly sexy concoction while the drums stay pert and primed for all manner of sultry floor action.

"You know who" is a Disco House crossover track with nice spoken words in memory to Mrs. Rosa Parks, icon of the resistance movement against segregation and racial discrimination. A-side main mix is a pure House Fudge sounding track, disco, classy, with elegant synths keys, while flip side offers a more electro jazz approach from the much in demand Jazz Liberatorz. Top notched production of the highest calibre here on Kif recordings !

Review: Sir Funkineven's Apron label has been on the down low for the past few months, but it's a pure stealth move with this split 12" from the founder and the excellent Greg Beato the first of several killer records due over the coming months. In essence the pair take a side each with "F's Diss" from Funkineven channelling Soundstream levels of edit-shaped bliss whilst Miami's pocket dynamo Greg Beato slams through some blinding Hi NRG on "B's Diss". What exactly the originals are is quite secondary to how deadly they've become in the scalpels of this trans-Atlantic pair.

The Green Man (Capracara remix)
Dirk Bogarde
Review: Launched earlier this year after several successful years of East London parties, the Disco Bloodbath imprint are clearly set on a path to promote the musical talents that's been cultivating around them. This third release on the labels sees the lesser spotted G&S return with their first material since appearances on Dissident (RIP) and In Flagranti's Codek imprint back in 09. A collaborative project between Say Yes resident Nadia Ksaiba and Matt Waites of Call Super, Moscow and Nightmoves repute, the G&S sound is based around a weighty yet eminently danceable manipulation of analogue gear which is executed with aplomb on lead track "Green Man". The duo's predilection for disco is very much evident in the tonalities of this track, but it's blended with a tough 808 grit that will appeal to Dissident fans. Juno favourite Capracara appears on the B-Side with a flipping great remix of "Green Man" that expertly imbues some house buoyancy into proceedings without sacrificing any of the original's crystalline charms, while G&S finish off with the Bloodbath anthem in the making "Dirk Bogarde".

Review: Chicago's G Marcell is part of the second generation of the Windy City's house academy, and the man saw his first releases being put out by BearatoneGroove back in the early 2000's. His EP's since then have been stable but limited and he's had a slight resurgence as of late thanks to an appearance on Hakim Murphy's Machining Dreams. This time around he's back courtesy of Vanguard Sound with the sample-fuelled house gem that is "Make Me Feel", the more filter-disco cut named "Southside Push, a jazzy little number in the shape of "Funky Watusi", and the more stepping house beat of "Is it....wtf?". Class, straight from the birthplace of it all.
