Review: In 2007 Juno Records is ten years old, and we've decided to celebrate by releasing 10 singles throughout the year. Each one is a classic dance track featuring new remixes from the some of the most exciting and established names in the business, including Julien Jabre, Spirit Catcher, Dimitri from Paris, Lindstrom, Troy Pierce, Cobblestone Jazz and many more. These releases will initially only be available from www.juno.co.uk and www.junodownload.com. To launch the series we have pulled out all the stops with the re-release of the timeless "In The Trees" by Faze Action, featuring remixes from the legendary Carl Craig and Jerome Sydenham & Tiger Stripes, as well as the brilliant 1996 original mix. Review: Past Inside The Present welcomes back accomplished and prolific ambient master zake, this time alongside Oss and Fax who released the original featured track, 'Polymorph' on Module. Here it gets revisited by a top contemporary team after the hazy and absorbing extended mix kicks things off. ASC then goes dark with his mood rework and Zake himself remixes with a more optimistic sense of crepuscular synth lushness. Aural Imbalance layers in some fizzing and malfunctioning electronic sounds, Ossa suspends you amongst his heavenly rays and Influx brings gently broken beats. Fax shuts down this varied offering with a more edgy ambient sound.

Review: In 1993, The Infotainment Scan, The Fall's 15th studio album, delivers an unpredictable mix of post-punk, glam rock and electronic experimentation. Mark E Smith's distinctive vocals and cryptic lyrics were paired with tracks like 'Ladybird (Green Grass)' featuring Steve Hanley's rumbling bass and the infectious glam stomp of 'Glam-Racket'. A standout cover of Sister Sledge's 'Lost in Music' provided an unexpected yet dazzling disco twist. The album also featured the chaotic energy of 'A Past Gone Mad' and the menacing dirge of 'The League of Bald-Headed Men'. Though initially intimidating, the album rewards perseverance. Tracks like 'Why Are People Grudgeful?' stand out as quirky pop gems in an otherwise abrasive, genre-blurring collection. It's an essential entry in The Fall's vast, ever-evolving discography, showing off Smith's unique ability to fuse disparate influences into a cohesive, challenging listen. Reaching number nine on the UK charts, The Infotainment Scan continues to fascinate and confound today. This set of CD's combine the original album, the BBC sessions, 2 live concerts where they performed many of this albums songs plus a CD of bonus tracks. This is a fantastic look into the Fall's overall music around the release of Infotainment Scan.

Review: The Globeflower Masters Vol 1 is a new Mr Bongo release that has been put together with classic soundtracks, 70s library music and cinematic compositions in mind. It was assembled in summer 2020 by Brightonian musicians Glenn Fallows and Mark Treffel who drew on their arsenal of vintage synths, pianos, 'other fun toys' and all manner of drums, guitars and bass. The result is a soothing album that will work in the dead of winter as well as the light of the summer thanks to its warm sounds, lush productions and luxuriant arrangements. A fine piece of wax, for sure.

Review: There's always been something a little loved-up about the scattergun, genre-bending productions of New York's Drew Lustman, AKA Falty DL. Yet previously, his desire to fuse cutting-edge rhythms with vintage rave references sometimes got in the way. Hardcourage, his first full-length for independent behemoths Ninja Tune, takes a more 'softly-softly' approach. Whereas his last full-length, 2011's You Stand Uncertain, was a kaleidoscopic invitation to start the dance, Hardcourage gently beckons you towards a loving embrace. While there are still plenty of skittish rhythms present, they're wrapped up in a warm orange glow - all serotonin-soaked chords, cascading melodies, bluesy vocal samples and near-Balearic compositions. In many ways it's a startling about-turn, but one that comes heartily recommended.

Review: Family's final studio album, It's Only a Movie, celebrated its 50th birthday in late 2023. To mark the occasion, Esoteric has offered up this remastered, expanded edition. Disc one boats the original album, an extended fusion of blues, psychedelic rock, string-laden progressive rock and Country & Western-influenced Americana, as well as a handful of single B-sides, alternate takes and early versions of LP cuts. Over on disc two, we're treated to a mixture of BBC 'in concert' recordings (where their roots in the British blues explosion of the late 1960s are far more evident) and performances captured for BBC Radio One's legendary 'Top Gear' programme (which did much in the 1960s to bring Beatles performances to the masses).

The narrative begins with Clarke's formative years, from his early musical inspirations to his significant collaborations, including recording with Curtis Knight. The story delves into his pivotal years with Motorhead (1976-1982), the formation of Fastway, and his solo endeavours. Personal insights from Mariko and Clarke's close friends enrich the biography, offering a look into his life beyond the stage. The CDs include The Early Years, featuring tracks from Zeus, Continuous Performance, and the Muggers. Motorhead Era, highlighting hits like 'Ace Of Spades,' unreleased demos and Eddie's work with Girlschool, Fastway, which showcases the band's evolution with demos, remixes, and tracks from eight albums and the Solo Years, focusing on his solo albums and collaborations. Stories don't come much more comprehensive than this.
