Review: Basic Rhythm's second appearance on Planet Mu plots a path from hardcore to footwork via jungle in devastating fashion. The A side houses the kinetic "2 Da Core" with mashed up vocal samples and crunchy drums into a bass heavy bomb, followed by "Get Up" with its hazy vocal samples and fat bass which comes together into a weird and wonderful rhythm. RP Boo's remixes are rather few and far between but we're treated to one here that is icy and skeletal, with echoing hits ringing out over impossibly deep sub bass. "Nah Ramp" is a destructive final offering with off grid clatter and lurching drums keeping you in a spin.

Review: Following his releases on Planet Mu and Sneakers Social Club, the inimitable Basic Rhythm returns on his own new series Raw Basics with two club hurting versions. "Break It Down VIP" goes back to one of his earlier tunes in 2016 and flips it into an absolute rave monster. Meanwhile on the B, London bubbler Parris slows things right down to a moody dubby sludge, complete with big droning siren. Heavy, low and slow. Perfect for the summer.

Review: Sometime Arcola artist Basic Rhythm returns to action via a fine four-track missive on Hypercolour's rave-inspired little sister, Sneaker Social Club. As you might expect, he's hit the mark once again via a quartet of cuts that gleefully blur the boundaries between a myriad of bass-music styles. We're particularly enjoying the broken computer style electronics, scattergun drums and discordant sci-fi sounds of "Too Nuff" and the Actress style madness of "London Warehouse", though we could also make a case for the sludgy vocal samples, post-dubstep pulse and weighty sub of "Ready Again" and slightly more melodious "New Style". In other words, it's a very strong EP.

Review: This four track EP is a return to Anthony Hart's pirate radio roots in the 90s, with clean amen breaks, contemporary use of well-known jungle vocal samples and a remix from 'The Grim Reaper' Loxy. Those who got into DnB and Jungle in the 90s through Eruption and Underground FM will feel at ease in BR's breakbeats, the single 'Horse Mout' being a pure slice of break heaven with its dub patterns and breakneck BPM. This EP marks the North London legend's final release under Planet Mu, and what better way to usher in the next phase but with a call-back to why Basic Rhythm is such a staple in the scene. Review: Currently spotted conjuring up some marvellous jungle craft on the likes of Future Retro and his own Raw Basics, Basic Rhythm returns to his slower tempos for this beguiling outing on Hypercolour. All slo-mo, warpy and moody, each cut carries it own highly unique flavour... The dense percussive weaves of 'Pepper', the almost Theo Parrishian flavoured woozy, stumbling tripletty kicks, eerie pads and crazy trumpets on '3am On The Corner' and the zoned out kuduro of the finale 'Moonlight Flit'. No one does it quite Basic Rhythm.

Review: His first new material as Basic Rhythm since his 2017 album The Basics, the London artist known as East Man steps over to Warp offshoot Arcola for two heady dancefloor slap-abouts. "Dough Boy" is a beautiful magpie of a track that comprises classic jungle pads, a naughty LFO style bassline and Art Of Noise-style talking keyboard notes while "Can't You See" slows the rave right down and strips the vibe right back to its emotional, naked essentials. With an EP on Sneakers Social Club coming up soon too, it's a great time to be a Basic Rhythm fan right now.

Review: Basic Rhythm indeed nails plenty of foundational elements on this wild two-track jungle outing on Artikal. A-side jam 'Corner Crew' has tough breakbeats and a synth loop that sounds like it is getting batted backwards and forwards on a ping pong table while drilling bass keeps things moving. On the reverse is 'Driller' (with Friske) which is another intense barrage of steely metallic styles and rugged jungle breaks with warehouse grit and grime and the distant sound of automation as well as filtered vocal sounds. It's dark, dirty, and ready to blow up your spot.

Basic Rhythm strips things right back to its gurgling basics with just a gritty bassline and spaced out percussion on 'Gargantua' before Tim comes in and adds a whole swathe of breaks and energy for a more beefed up version. 'Selectors Convention' takes over the B; a big trippy wormhole that devours everything in its path, it's a full-on psychedelic jungle trip... That gets even more delightful with the VIP. What a reissue.

Review: Modern-era breakbeat culture continues apace with this latest drop on Raw Basics, as Basic Rhythm brings some heavy hitters into the fold to help lay waste to the dance. The EP opens up with a collar with the mighty Tim Reaper, as 'Revival' leans in on a tightly-wound drum hook and keeps the synth licks pleasingly dark side. The Romford remix of 'On the 86' has a more madcap energy that looks back to early hardcore in its clattering breaks, and then Sully comes to weave his magic teaming up with the Basic wonder for 'Apache (Let The Bass Go)'. The results are as wild as you would expect, not least thanks to the blinding lead stabs and needlepoint drum science. Then a solo outing rounds the EP off as 'Help Me' heads towards a smoother landing in the classic breakbeat vein.

Review: Destination Finland: Straight Up Breakbeat roll their sleeves up for this almighty VA from some of the most respected jungle crafters you could possibly shake a dubplate at. Local legend Sofa links with Rupture Queen Mantra for the opening cut 'The Tunnel'. Dark and tense, it sets the scene for some utterly fantastic moments. Long time pals Basic Rhythm & Tim Reaper get silly with 'Target Lock', Blood Trust gets militant with 'RLLR 24' while Jesta finishes with a little blue-faced bust-up 'Liquor Snurf'. Sup sup!!

Review: Sully and Basic Rhythm swap skills on an inter-fantastic new four-tracker, 'XT / Woozy', with remixes. Following the initial split single release on which only the originals were heard, we're now hit hard round the face with their dark-energetic mirror images. As on the first batch, the pair eschew the usual drum & bass palette for a focus on its form, swapping out the genre's usually hard-attacked, sampled-to-death oneshots for cleaner, nigh synthetic drums that simply pop. All sounds seem to have been designed from scratch; Sully's version of 'Woozy's is as nocturnal and sterile in sound as a werewolf just escaped from a bathhouse.

Review: Anthoney J Hart aka Imaginary Forces who has appeared on Entr'acte, Bedouin and of course his own Sleep Codes label now appears on Type with his new project Basic Rhythm. Eight excursions in street level, post grime/dubstep bass mutations. We particularly enjoyed the smoked out beats of the title track, the forceful and jagged antics of "Your Love" (featuring some particularly thrilling low end pulsation) and the deconstructed jazzy drum and bass of "Feel Me". Review: AKA Anthoney Hart AKA Imaginary Forces AKA Sleep Codes bossman, Basic Rhythm follows up last year's Raw Trax album with another full length/full strength collection of bare, naked electronic music. Tribal futurism runs throughout as minimal cuts like "Fake Thugs" and the rattling off-centre drums of "Suburban Base", trippier takes can be found in the strange rising vocal processing of "Silent Listener" and "Night Moves" but it's nothing but pure murderation on dark space steppers such as "Blood Klaat Kore". Another highly accomplished body of work.
