Agaric - "Acid Sluts"
Bruce Logan - "Your Halo Is Slipping"
Eidolon - "You People"
Review: Some of the most promising Swedish artists on this new Moll release. The label is an excellent guideline of today's techno movement. Firm thumping kicks are at the base of these dancefloor monsters. The boys turn out to be full blown bassline engineers, pushing the envelope when it comes to supersonic frequencies.

Ohne Hande (Maschinendub)
Ohne Hande (acappella)
Ohne Hande (Fundamental mix)
Ohne Hande (Pogo Im Saurebad Plural mix)
Review: The Berlin-based aufnahme + wiedergabe label elect to revisit Legacy From A Cold World, last year's fine debut album from Black Egg, with the focus on one specific track and one special artist. As the recent remixes of Powell suggested, Michael Wollenhaupt's Ancient Methods project is perfectly tooled to instigate some truly inspirational reworks given the correct source material and his four versions of "Ohne Ha?nde" are the stuff of techno dreams. Wedged inbetween EBM, industrial and techno, the "Maschinendub" version is a wonderfully seedy affair, whilst the Accapella version fizzes with underlying menace. The Fundamental mix will please those seeking some thunderous techno whilst the closing "Pogo Im Saurebad Plural" version veers off into the realm of primitive electronics. Superb stuff!

Mark Archer - "We Jack The House"
Ben Pest - "Schedule Acid"
Posthuman - "Don't Rush"
Chevron - "Vishnu 303"
Review: Drum machines, synths and sequencers are alive and kicking on this various artist EP from, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl label which features Horror Boogie's Ben Pest and Planet Mu artist Chevron. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Posthuman takes the EP into spacey, Detroit, 909 techno territory with "Don't Rush", while Chevron powers up his 303 to supply a track as cheeky and acidic as what Killekill's Affie Yusuf can muster.

Artefakt - "Curvature Of Mind" (7:42)
Alan Backdrop - "Quaraman" (6:49)
Ben Gibson - "Floating Shadows" (6:46)
Tripsolate & Redundaent - "Akay" (9:50)
Review: Bari, Puglia based SUBOSC is helmed by producer Kaelan and presents four excursions through the more hypnotic and cerebral strains of techno. Berlin's Artefakt starts off on the A side with with the trance inducing reductionism of "Curvature Of Mind", while Italian Alan Backdrop returns after what seems like a long absence from the scene, but he's back in form on the exquisite sound design of "Quaraman". On the flip there's Kiwi Ben Gibson with the Millsian touch of "Floating Shadows" which will certainly draw you down into the abyss, while local duo Tripsolate & Redundaent offer up something a bit more different on the electro/dub techno crossover of "Akay" and as unusual as this hybrid must sound, it really works and is truly a highlight. Tip!

Play With Me (5:33)
Step Inside (5:03)
Conektion (4:31)
Review: UK IDM legends Michael Golding and Steve Rutter aka B12 return with more new material for Sheffield's Central Processing Unit, following up some great releases. Some seminal ones on Warp Records and their eponymous imprint, of course. Not to mention the pair's new imprint FireScope in recent times. Starting out on the A side with the deep, stripped and mellow 303 acid of "Untold" and "Play With Me" which re-captures the zeitgeist of early UK intelligent techno; a sound they helped pioneer. On the flip, they save the best for last on the dark and tunnelling downbeat futurism of "Conektion". More amazing work from these true heroes of the electronic music underground.

Review: "Practopia" was the last ever release on B12 Records, first printed in 1996. Only five test pressings were ever made. Sought after for over a decade, it is now re-mastered and committed to vinyl, (with one extra track - "Ecliptic"). Every vinyl has the B12 signature engravings in the run-out grooves. No words can truly describe this music. It is absolutely stunning. Only 700 copies are available, so don't sleep on it.

Review: Phantasy invite us into the weird and wonderful world of Babe, Terror with this orange marble vinyl housing the first of two releases from the Brazilian. "Summertime Our League" is a hauntingly hypnotic exercise in sonic experimentalism, with heavyweight remix action from Four Tet who transforms the beatless melancholia into a typically organic sounding drummers delight. Amping up the atmospherics is the reverberant dub techno brilliance of Appleblim & Arkist's remix of "A Capital Federal".

Tin Of Worms
Westway
Review: Autoreply do the record buying public a favour and give Baby Ford's Tin Of Worms 12" another repress, this time on yellow wax. Baby Ford has been making electronic music since the late 1980s and is regarded by most as one of the key players in the nascent UK acid house scene. His entry into the Autoreply stable is a classy, versatile two tracker. The title track showcases crisp, tight linear drum programming - with ribcage shaking sub bass and supernatural synths which undulate over its eight minute cycle, displaying the original principles of minimal techno alongside forward thinking sound design. On the flip you'll find "Westway", originally recorded on Ford's now defunct hardware set up and mastered from DAT. This track conjours images of smoky late night jazz clubs with its smooth piano chords and strings that seem to float in an out of the mix- set starter, nightclub techno lesson, afterparty showpiece; the choice is yours...

One For Sorrow (6:41)
Rainstorm (7:04)
Woody (7:05)
Review: Andy Vaz's Background Records has been treating early 00s minimal die hards of late with a run of choice reissues. It was great to see the Smyglyssna getting another outing, and likewise this crucial slice of stripped down surrealism from the mighty Baby Ford. 'One For Sorrow' is a party rocker through and through, with a bubbling bass pulse that hooks you into the groove while the strange vocoder flexing over the top tries to throw you off. 'Rainstorm' uses the subtlest threads of static noise to create a subliminal sense of atmospheric interference around a crisp beatdown, and 'Woody' uses a simple melodic loop to create a mystical energy you could lose yourself in for days.

Review: Lopazz and Alex Cortex have always enjoyed a cult status with their Bad Cop Bad Cop project, and now on the eve of their debut album the pair are getting remixed from all angles. Tobias is on deadly form with his slender work on "Hilton Hihat", creating a sumptuous tapestry of interlocking melodies that weave around a crisp beat in that most trancey of techno ways. In contrast Kemetrix brings a thoroughly strange and spaced out kind of techno rumble with an industrial finish, while the B-side finds soft, enveloping dub perspectives from Group Niob and Brendon Moeller.

Review: K209 are slowly making their way out of the shadows and in doing so more of their personality is revealed. Prior to this release you'd never hear hyped vocals say something like 'over here', but that's exactly what happens over the grungy bassline and drums that is "Sleeper". "14vac" sounds like a broken down service lift trying to regenerate itself, but it's the sound of "Duality" that will be most familiar with followers Henning Baer and Milton Bradley. This record, though, is all about the B-side thanks to the ripping gurgle of "Divergence" and "Beat 992" which sounds like an old school Do Not Resist The Beat 12" mixed with Milton Bradley Prologue. Big techno.

Bom Bang!
Rubber Band
Break The Rules
Beaming
Review: Vinyl sampler from John Digweed's long running Bedrock imprint to accompany what is, amazingly, the first album from Marco Bailey in seven years. Whilst the album sees the veteran Belgian flex his production muscle with a set of tracks that veer between downtempo and the more usual tough dancefloor cuts, this sampler very much focuses on the latter. Proceedings commence with the Moroder-ish hedonism of "Bom Bang!", characterised by menacing arpeggiated bass that rises and drops in all the right places. Alongside this are the rubbery main-room jack funk of "Rubber Band", the driving tropical thump of "Break The Rules" and the twisted acid freakery of "Beaming". All this means you'll have to indulge in the album proper to hear "Bill The Trumpet Player" - a deliciously jazzy stomper that recalls Garnier's "The Man With The Red Face".

Review: Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint has for around 15 years been the go-to label for peak time, up front techno on the harder side of things; and this is more of the same! Who better to start proceedings than Belgium's Marco Bailey throwing down a right stomper in the form of "Don't You Want Me" while Italy's Roberto Capuano gives us "Flashback", its infectious melody hypnotises you while its beat pummels you. New York City legend Victor Calderone serves up "Requiem" which is more minimal in presentation, working a vocal loop over a nice bass stab and those harsh, metallic snares. Finally Ian O'Donovan gives us "The Border" with its epic soaring strings, bleeping melody, dark stabs and funky bassline getting more on a progressive/tech house tip.

Give It To Me
Review: Bam Bam's "Where Is Your Child" first surfaced back in 1988, and it's combination of 808 and 303 drumming programming with carnal moans and groans made it one of the finest proponents of a genre we call acid house. It was the DJ Rush remix however, that turned it into a Tresor anthem, with the towering DJ's version containing a kick drum that would rival Jeff Mills's Extremist and Waveform Transmission releases for sheer brutality, if not BPM. And it is Tresor who have made this much sought after 12" available once again (they first reissued it in 2001), continuing a fine run of form in 2010 that has seen seminal work from Jeff Mills, Surgeon and Drexciya made available to a new generation.

Review: After a year break, La Influencia is back!! Mike Input EP (LI 004) was a hit and had a great support from many international DJs; with further proof, the record is licensed for 10 mix CDs and compilations around the world. To name a few, Francois Kevorkian included it in his mix CD "Frequencies" and in his 3x12" vinyl, DJ Lucca put it in his DVD "Hardhouse", it was taken for the compilation "South American Techno" in Chile and Argentina and for "Cherrymoon" compiled by News in Belgium. LI 005 is a four tracker EP. On A side Bando delivers fresh sound, 128 bpm electro tech track with a retro sound never seen before on the label. A2 is energy for the dance floor, it is the traditional Bando's groovy sound. On B side: Mooz, this artist known for releasing records in labels like Pornographic, Speaker Attack, Soul Access and has planned new releases for Black Codes and Donkey Head soon. His track (B2) is pumping and groovy techno. On B1 he is remixed by Mr Cristian Varela, well known for more than 100 releases and albums in labels like Intec or Primate, for owning Pornographic Recordings among others, and for his DJ gigs in Europe, America and Asia. The remix has a melodic synth lead and powerful break characteristic of Varela's tunes.

Review: Having shot into the limelight in 2012 with a 12" on Hessle Audio followed up by an outing on Liberation Technologies, Bandshell has since been on covert operations largely centred around releasing his music himself via Bandcamp. Now he's extended that practice into the B.S.Hell label, providing a physical presence to his wayward experimentation on the fringes of bass music. It's a sound that naturally aligns with the likes of Batu and Laksa, but also defiantly makes its own statement as well. With five tracks of distinctive drum science and textural voodoo to indulge in, this is a welcome return to wax for a thrilling, self-motivated producer.
