Cybereign - "Breathing Apparatus" (Kid Ginseng remix) (4:32)
Bart Karlos - "Shaftwerk" (4:25)
Review: For those interested in punchy, forthright and funk-fuelled techno, Kraftjerkz ongoing Machine Funk Is Our Game series should be essential listening. There's plenty to get the blood pumping on the label's latest instalment, the fifth in total and first of 2021, beginning with ALONZO's Drexciya-style opener, 'Shitto Maltese'. Konertymi opts for energy aplenty on the fizzing bass, punchy beats and sci-fi synths of 'Replikantti', while Zarcon's 'TicTac' is an acid-fired chunk of electronic funk and DJ Di'jital's 'Jit It Up' is ghetto-tech for wannabe astronauts everywhere. Elsewhere, King Ginseng adds a little stomp to the '80s electro style sounds of Cybereign's 'Breathing Apparatus' and Bart Karlos's 'Shaftwerk' is as deliciously sleazy and spacey as you'd expect.

Long Island Soul - "Eleventh Hour Exchange" (5:12)
Baby Rolen - "Metallic Humanoids" (5:59)
Abdul Raeva - "Celestial Body" (Venus mix) (6:38)
Review: Gestal is leading the way in the Estonian scene and now it rightly continues its anniversary celebrations with a third volume of vital VA cuts. Anderson opens proceedings with his 'Stalactites,' a nice leggy electro cut with a heavy drum and bass combo but plenty of astral details. Things get more kinetic and travel much further from the blue planet on the superbly slick and serene cut from Long Island Sound, while Baby Rolen gets down and dirty on twisted bass and slapping drum hits that make you jerk. There is a much more dreamy vibe to Abdul Raeva's 'Celestial Body' meaning things close on a perfect emotional note.

Anderson - "Synchronize Our Moves" (6:29)
Velvet Velour - "Yesyesyes" (6:50)
Babu - "Luna"
Penelope - "Gathering"
Review: Tresydos has been doing a great job of shaping out a niche within the minimal-tech-house-trance scene, with the recent spate of vinyl releases solidly firming up the label's vibe. That vibe is crystallised perfectly on the first part of their Number 10 series, where Anderson opens proceedings up with the dreamy but playful trip of 'Synchronize Our Moves' before Velvet Velour takes things into cheeky mid 00s territory with the wriggling samples and catchy synth hooks of 'Yesyesyes'. Babu switches things up with a nudge towards Italo which brings a refreshing twist to the record before Penelope finishes the record off with a quintessential slice of crafty modern era-minimal.

B22 - "Astral Projection" (5:21)
B22 - "Make You Free" (5:21)
Review: Cologne label Mephis/Monevido continues to be pushing some of the freshest acid and tech house around as they welcome Artesano Titer and B22 for a split 12" of dazzling late night sonics. Titer's 'Free Fall From Space' is an expert exercise in layered up 303 snake charming, while 'An Unexpected Arrival' locks into a lowdown groove with brain-tweaking modulation running up top. B22 kick off the B-side with a bleep-informed dose of acid from the dark side and some downright nasty groove action kicking off on 'Make You Free', with an instantly recognisable sample from an LFO classic thrown in for good measure.

Blak Tony - "Holla Holla" (3:32)
Posatronix - "Pure Techno Sound" (5:50)
DJ K-1 - "Erase The Time" (6:36)
Review: From the minds of Direct Beat and Detroit Bass Classics, comes the first initial compilation of electro/techno heat. "Electro In The Key Of Detroit Vol 1" presents 4 proven dance floor dope and record crate staples that provide the hungry ears of masses the groove to move. A Side features two sure-fire steppers - a rare AUX 88 voyage entitled "Phantom Power" and Blak Tony's tempo-pushing "Holla Holla" finally see the light of day on this wax collectable, giving praise to Motor City footwork culture. On the flip, DJ K-1's "Erase The Time" rocked the airwaves and global clubs with its signature thumping style laced beneath alien-like melody and repetitive vocal structure while Posatronix's mutant-rhythm mantra, "Pure Techno Sound" pulls the weight of Detroit's street dance roots down to the origin of how to boogie in space. This collection of re-issued jams and new explorations is the must-have for the electro/techno & bass aficionado.

BSMH (Z@P Sonic Re-Interpretation)
Review: This new and unique one-sided 10" is a companion to the PMA EP by B-2DEP'T released on this Saisei label earlier in the year. It's as raw and frazzled as electro gets frankly, with B-2DEP'T heading off to the depths of the galaxy where snappy snares ride on crispy drum breaks. There are occult-like synth lines weaving their way in and out and a dark filtered vocal bring the menace and paranoid energy that keeps this one so enthralling. It's the second vital offering from this artist this year.

Murderbot Diaries (feat Diego Santana) (5:59)
Once (5:59)
Only We Know (6:16)
Review: Hand-wringing nighttime synth-Talo movements from B Ai, the curtly named new Lirica Archives signee and Motivation club night founder, based in China. While she opens this hat-trick of tracks with a rather functional, FM-driven drama, 'Hope', it's really the Diego Santana featurer 'Murderbot Diaries' that gets us going; the track breaks down into a supremely lasery, tubular, harmonically next-level strobing, conjuring alt-visions of a seedy but gaudy cyborg entertainment district. B-sider 'Once' Tron-ifies things with sweeping sines and popcorn leads, whilst 'Only We Know' utilises transitory crash cymbals and further slinky melodies, constructing a closing tech-funk number.

B Love - "Video Soul" (6:49)
Arnic - "I'm Into You" (5:59)
Neik - "New Age" (7:47)
Atree - "Augmented Reality" (6:08)
Review: The next entry in Tresydos' tenth release series features another four sterling slices of contemporary minimal tech house trance fusions, leading in with B Love's 'Video Soul', which samples a television interview with legendary talk box funker Roger Troutman. Arnic follows that with the brooding synth construction of 'I'm Into You' before Neik's 'New Age' cools things down with a rolling, warm-up-friendly groove. Atree's 'Augmented Reality' is a spikier affair to end the record on an uptempo note, maintaining the playful energy which binds the whole record together in a burst of catchy baselines and cheeky samples.

Review: Picnic tends towards flaunting the eclecticism of the British underground, standing in stark opposition to conformity. B Love, Rokko, Mathijs Smit and Herra come through for their latest V/A here, each with their own unique style and flavour to the four-way table - whether they work in deep house, techno, or the cheekier side of speed-garage-ambient. As 'Thumb Milk' says in the pre-drop moment of pause: "do what you feel, when you feel like it". Such is the exact feel of this EP, from the idyllic chordwork of Rock's 'Sunset Frequency' to the organic organry of 'Going Backwards'.

B Beat Classic (5:47)
B Beat Classic (instrumental) (5:52)
Review: B+'s B-Beat Classic is originally from 1983. It is an early hip-hop and electronic fusion with some great talk-box vocals and a loose-limbed mix of percussion and drums. It moves slowly and purposefully, with scratches over the top and unhinged funk soon permeating your body. Leftover tape was used to create the effects and original copies have a note that the tune was dedicated to a first generation Boston disco DJ named Jim Stuard whose career was cut short by the Everard Baths fire in New York City in 1977.

Review: Earlier this year, early '90s intelligent techno pioneers B12 returned to action with a surprise single on Soma. Now a solo project from original member Steve Rutter, the B12 comeback gathers pace with a follow-up for Delsin. Happily, Orbiting Souls is every bit as enchanting as the records Rutter and then partner Michael Golding released on Warp some 20 years ago. Deep, melodious, spacey, musically complex and effortlessly attractive, the five tracks variously touch on electro ("Nautilus Horizon"), spaced-out machine funk ("It's My Blood"), classic Ambient House ("Two Stories"), downtempo IDM-jazz (the brilliant "Nothing"), and Aphex Twin style ambient-meets-techno madness ("Universal Alignment"). In other words, it's ace.

Structural Stress (5:40)
Review: Spain's Tensegrity Records makes its debut with a release that locks together rhythm and atmosphere like well-fitted joints in a wooden lattice. Founded by Babu, the label takes its name from the concept of tensegrityistructures held in equilibrium through tension and compression. That same principle underpins these five tracks, where restraint and release shape the groove. 'Tensegrity' sets the foundation, interlocking elements with a patient, tensile flow. 'Erase una vez' nods to electro and new wave, its synth lines tinged with nostalgia, while 'Meritocracia' stretches out into lush, contemplative territory. On the flip, 'Romi' leans into shadowy, percussive minimalism, its tribal pulse threading through negative space. 'Structural Stress' closes with a rawer energy, drawn from personal upheaval yet channelled into something direct and resolute. With only 200 copies pressed, this first transmission from Tensegrity Records feels not just meticulously crafted, but necessary.

Magic Of Human
Review: Simoncino's newly minted Hotmix imprint laid down their mission statement on their first few Underground Dance EPs, enlisting the likes of Marcello Napoletano, Nicholas and Joe Drive to contribute tracks. Emboldened by the warm reception these various artist EPS received, Hot Mix step up their game with the first in a series of solo releases, with UK producer Kurt Baggaley at the helm for the five track Magic Of Human EP. From the opening strains of "Population Too Late" it's clear Baggaley is trying to marry utopian ideals with vintage house rhythms, an approach he carries off with aplomb. The final title track in particular resonates with a fuzzy, bleep laden sensation. An intriguing release which bodes well for a label that has EPs on the way from Marcello Napoletano and Gene Hunt!

Review: Lazy Harts Club man Evan Baggs is not one for keeping up a regular release schedule; in fact, his last single of note appeared way back in 2015. This first appearance on Time Passages has arguably been worth the wait, though. The Neu Rochelle EP offers a quartet of contrasting cuts. For example, compare the rough-and-ready, bass-heavy Drexciyan space electro of "UTL", the rolling, acid-flecked old school tech-house of "Neu Rochelle", and the melodious machine jam that is closer "Still Breezin". Best of all, though, is "All Question All Answers", which comes on like an unlikely collaboration between 'Pure Trance' era KLF, bleep types Sweet Exorcist, and late '90s tech-house jams.

New Language (8:17)

Bo Jangles (6:43)
Review: After slowly establishing his career via a handful of tidy EPs released over an eight-year period, Evan Baggs has really hit his stride in 2018. This outing on Partout is not only the American's fourth vinyl excursion of the year, but arguably his strongest, too. He hits the ground running on opener "New Language", where vintage Steel City bleeps rise above doom-laden chords and crunchy electronic percussion, before peppering another drum machine rhythm with spacey electro style synth lines on "5 Phased". Over on the flip, Baggs successfully breaks up the beats, ratchets up the sub bass and reaches for the deep electronics on "As It Is", while closer "Bo Jangles" is a fine slab of foreboding, acid-flecked late night techno funk.

Review: After his Kinfolk released collab with Otologic's Nick Murrary, Kris Baha makes a welcome return to his Power Station creation. A versatile five track EP that will get you through the night, one pictures Yello's virgin ketamine experiments on 'Mind Your Head' before 'Jeff' comes to the party with his mad professor dub, giving you whiplash with its belting beats and crashing guitar stabs. Originally designed as an hour long opening score for the namesake Melbourne club night, 'Around You Go' is an edited warm up tool, the crossroad between Dusseldorf and Elettronica Meccanica. If issued in 1983, '2 Nights in Armenia' would have lived on as a Cosmic classic while 'ArpB' is the listeners' exit music, a fork hanging from the power socket.

Review: Over the last few years, Kris Baha's releases have become progressively more bleak and concrete-clad in tone. It's little surprise, then, to find that he's used this EP for She Lost Kontrol to give a decidedly 21st century spin on the Cold War era sounds of cold wave, industrial and EBM. There's much to enjoy from start to finish. Check, for example, the stylish spoken word vocals, alien synthesizer melodies and sleazy arpeggio style bass of "In Your Arms", the dirty, Nitzer Ebb style EBM sweatiness of "Revolting", the slow-motion dirtiness of industrial funk bubbler "Black Rose" and the guitar-driven post-punk goodness of "Jonathan", which sounds a little like a heartfelt tribute to Robert Smith and the Cure.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of De:tuned continues, as they take a break from serving up sci-fi techno, IDM and ambient techno to deliver something a lot more intense: a surprise EP from original House of God Birmingham resident DJ Paul 'Damage' Bailey. Channeling the spirit of his friend Surgeon while offering up something fresh, the two original tracks on show are undeniably inspired. 'Hadal Zone' adds weirdo noises, bleeps and mind-mangling electronic pulses to a slipped Afro-techno groove, while 'Decompression' is a wonky, triple-time workout full of Ket-addled electronics and wayward loops. Makaton re-imagines that track as a locked-in late-night techno throb-job, while James Ruskin turns 'Hadal Zone' into a buzzing, industrial-influenced electro-bleep number.

'Immersion' leads the charge with a nasty lead synth hook and some robotic female vox to give you a little taste of cyberpunk eroticism - just the ticket to get the party juiced up good n' proper. Things edge closer to noirish electroclash on 'Mental Test' and maintain the saucy pressure on 'Control Jam', letting the freaky synths cavort across the no-nonsense drums for all manner of deviant delights calling out to all denizens of the night.

All the tracks are dance-floor oriented - characterized by dynamic drums, acid and trancy melodies matched together with a deep soul. Acid meets slap bass on 'Crush9', while 'Zion' describes the Kingdom of the Lamb through the mode of washy, spitty snares and glassy pads. All tunes serve to satiate, leaving you more or less chloro-filled with energy, much like the emblematic sunflower on the inner label.

Review: Following his highly praised album "Word Color" from last year, Gacha Bakradze offers up this stunning EP on Fever AM. "Monument" sees the Tbilisi based art- ist taking us on a refreshing, sublime journey over 4 pieces featuring his signature melodies, broken beats and striking sound design. Gacha pulls off a very well rounded EP here that works perfectly on headphones at home or on a sound system in the club. This is also the first artist besides labelheads Mor Elian and Rhyw to appear on Fever AM, opening up a new phase for the label.

Review: Georgian IDM artist Gacha Bakradze commands a loyal fanbase for his enchanting emanations in the style. The latest example comes in the form of 'Forget', his most recent contribution to Turkish pushers of the craft, Oath. Fluid movements of electro clankings and modular groovework extend far and deep into a gaseous, sulphuric unknown, while airier explorations of spirituality are laid down on the vocal-sample-led 'What You Say' and the wonderfully three-chord-backboned janker, 'Form'. 'Forget' isn't a project for shallow listens; take it slow.

Review: Following releases from Marquis Hawkes, Francis Harris and Hamatsuki, Georgia's Horoom label showcases some local talent. Gacha Bakradze is a rising talent on an international level, having recently appeared on Fever AM, but here he channels a sound that should find favour with fans of fellow Georgian talent HVL. Dubby atmospheres and snaking percussive rollers abound, with a hint of UK hardcore and jungle influence lurking in the middle distance but deployed with care. Subtlety is key here, as Bakradze unfurls immersive cuts with a restrained power to take the dancefloor to some truly transcendental places.
