Pauk - "Shiawasena Fukushu" (4:24)
Perdi Rominger - "Empty Spot" (8:20)
Promising/Youngster - "Arbey" (5:32)
Review: There's lots to get your teeth stuck into on this new and blistering collection of electro from Adepta Editions. And don't let the title fool you - it's not all accessible summer festival fare, in fact none of it is. It is all head down and serious tackle. 7053M4R14's '4 N3W HUM4N' is a driving, dark, visceral sound with raw breakbeats powering through the cosmos. Rec_Overflow offers a moment to catch your breath with some slower, dubby rhythms on 'Pocket Dial' and Pauk explores twitchy future synths capes and post-human transmissions on 'Shiawasena Fukushu'. Promising/Youngster shuts down with a sense of optimism and hope with the airy melodies and slithering electro drum patterns of 'Arbey.'

Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

The Cool-Notes - "Natural Energy" (5:07)
Ilija Rudman - "Dub 4 Love" (Secret Weapon mix) (5:59)
Review: This third volume of instrumentals continues the faultless Isle of Jura label's deep dive into dub versions and beyond. Side one takes in references from UK street soul and reggae and features two late-'80s tracks by Howard Hill with machine-led rhythms, rudeboy reggae skank and soulful pads. Protek's 'I Love to Dance With You' is a proto-house gem featured in a Jura Soundsystem mix and here it gets a loving re-edit by The Nightlark. Side B includes an instrumental-driven track with spacey FX from The Cool Notes' and Ilija Rudman's 'Dub 4 Love' which is a knowing nod to acid house's golden era.

Remco Beekwilder - "Declaration Of Penetration" (5:15)
Review: Following the sudden impact of Remco Beekwilder's Moortgat EP, his label Emerald is straight back to it with a double pack VA release of quality hi-octane techno. Beekwilder himself kicks off proceedings with the nightmarish pressure of 'Rhythm Allegiance', and then we get a merry romp through all kinds of pile-driving gear from artists like Rove Ranger, Sedvs, Parano, Alarico and Jacobworld. While the vibes range from industrial and pounding to light and funky, the tempo maintains at the upper end of the spectrum, making this a very handy collection to have for those long-haul peak time gigs when you need to keep the crowd wound up.

Review: RECOMMENDED
Ride guitarist and singer Andy Bell has been busy in recent times, to put it mildly, as plans to release three EPs and an album between April and June 2021 prove. All set to be put out under the series title 'Ever Decreasing Circles', The Indica Gallery EP is the first in that set, and suggests we're in for a very, very interesting time when the next instalments follow.

The release comprises five remixes of tracks from Bell's 2020 solo outing, The View From Halfway Down, with reworkings completed by Martin Jenkins' Pye Corner Audio project, and the sixth piece here coming in the form of Bell's own edit of a PCA remix of his work, here credited to his GLOK alias. Name-dropping done, the record is a dense electronic trip into psychedelic cosmic disco slo-mo territories, dream-like ambient beauty and loose, baggy-trousered, nostalgic elec-indie fare.

Queen Of Ice (feat Dizzy - Pet Shop Boys 7" mix) (3:14)
Review: Record Store Day Black Friday edition gifts us this unlikely pairing of artists as Different offers up some Pet Shop Boys remixes of Claptone's 'Queen of Ice.' The extended mix goes first with a nice pop-tinged and subtly Balearic rework with warming electronic drums and the original emotive vocals. Their Moody mix then breaks up the beast a little into tumbling affairs that are perfect for summer festival deployment. On the flip is the heart-wrenching dance pop nugget that is the original of 'Queen Of Ice' (feat Dizzy) before the best of the lot - a nice and breezy 7" mix that is clean and catchy.

Review: Colkin from Raw Soul and Mauke Club sets the tone on this new FUTUR compilation, which has been curated by Benedikt Meger with a spherical acid house meditation. Peter Seiler's track, a standout from the reissue of his debut album Flying Frames, features Sheryl Hackett's soulful vocals and merges song structure with jazz improvisation. Eoism from Pulse Drift, Undersound, and Inch By Inch delivers low-swung electro flavours perfect for sunset vibes while the B-side opens with Voertuig of Tonal Oceans and Cobra Club who presents a seriously raw acid jam followed by an experimental, jazzy piece, reminiscent of the 90s downtempo era. 'Eoism' closes things with a floating, futuristic banger, going to make a well rounded (in more ways than one) and ultimately very useful piece of vinyl.

Review: According to La Chinerie themselves. after repping their dear home of France on the first volume, they are 'this time enlightening Italy's house scene through an eclectic V/A gathering eight tracks from eight talented macaronis.' Southern Italy represents in the form of Salerno's Giovanni Damico with the funky and dusty soul heaven of "No Al Maltrattamento Dei Samples" while Lecce's finest Marcello Napoletano delivers the goods as always on the gritty house shenanigans of "Insignami". Elsewhere, there's Restoration's Lucretio (via Berlin of course) delivering some muscular, hardware oriented grooves on "I Piu Piccoli" while the north of The Beautiful Country represents too, rest assured, in the from of Bologna's Bassa Clan with the bouncy and swinging NYC circa '94 vibe of "Notte Brava".

Brechas (DJ Python remix) (4:52)
Pliegues (Verraco remix) (4:46)
Review: Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue and Argentinian Prisma combine to fantastic effect on their first ever collaboration here. This is a hypnotic EP with cascading synths, ever churning rhythms and wires electronic mixed with a sense of ancient dancing rituals to make for something entirely new and fresh. Colliding polyrhythms and powerful FM synth lines define each of the tracks from the suspensory opener to the more dark and twitchy 'Breachas'. 'Grietas' is a stuttering and swaggering cut that has hallmarks of dubstep and reggaeton then DJ Python makes the latter more explicit on his remix before 'Pliegues' (Verraco remix) closes on a wildly textural and broken up rave vibe.

Dis Oui! (5:16)
Dis Oui! (Ben Hixon remix) (5:17)
Review: Here we have the first in a series of releases on Dolfin that celebrate the 7" format. 'Dis Oui!' by JT Donaldson is a low-slung house groove that explores a unique and catchy melodic chord structure. Featuring beautiful and elegant vocals from Penelope Antena, this is sure to be a favorite by everyone who plays and hears it. JT cleverly edits the vocals into a symphony sprinkling the song with magic. For the second side, Dolfin regular Ben Hixon, gets the remix duty. He turns the track into a dubby builder that explores perfectly placed portions of the vocal onto a tribal bed of rhythms. A perfect alternate version that is so smooth it hurts. A lot of playability for one little 7".

Review: 'Suite For Chick' is a heartfelt tribute to the late jazz legend Chick Corea. This 12" was assembled to reimagine classics like 'City Gate, Rumble,' 'Time Track,' 'Hymn of the Heart' and Return to Forever's 'Romantic Warrior.' It finds Bangkok-based Maarten Goetheer collaborating with Thailand's jazz virtuoso Pong Nakornchai and blending Wurlitzer chords, Moog basslines, ARP leads and Rhodes phasings. Inspired by his jazz-pianist father, Maarten fuses classic jazz with modern genres like techno, cosmic disco and ambient for a fresh take on jazz fusion. These electrifying interpretations honour Corea's pioneering legacy in jazz and fusion from his groundbreaking work with Miles Davis to founding Return to Forever.

Once in a while, they like to put out some collaborative works and it's time for the second instalment of their Family Horror compilations. Plenty of fire and new faces on this one, and we're particularly digging Hiver's "Egeo", a cinematic opener with an aqueous sort of feel to it, "Kokobay" by QY and the acidic "Track 6" by Perm. Wild and multi-faced.

Review: EC Underground is back with more inquisitors of low-end heavy sounds on Bass Scene Investigation vol 1 and again digs deep into the worlds of electro, techno, breakbeat and IDM. The compilation kicks off with the skittish percussive patterns of Illektrolab's 'Making Heads Dip', then heads into moody ground with ADJ, Pablo Funk brings some menacing synth work and Errorbeauty gets all weird and trippy with some mad electronics. Francois Dillinger offers a dystopian electro sound full of irresistibly jacked-up drums. A fine investigation indeed.

Lashes (6:38)
Magnetic (7:36)
Review: Leipzig based Riotvan, run by Peter Invasion and Panthera Krause, welcomes Kalexis and Paulor for this collaborative four track that mines techno's deepest depths. 'Going Through The Void' is a moody and slow motion opener that rides on an undulating bassline with plenty of ambient pads for company. 'Energy' is more edgy, a stomper with fractured vocals and wonky synths that builds a darker mood. On the flipside there is the brilliantly unhinged and unusual melodies of 'Lashes' which sounds like a marching band on acid and 'Magnetic' closes down with haunting low ends and spooky pads.

Review: American label Deep Bow makes a notable vinyl debut with this heavyweight 10" featuring King Stanley and Prince Jamo, both voicing over a thunderous riddim crafted by producer Dub Sev?. This roots-driven slab stars with King Stanley's passionate cries over sleek drums with shiny digital synths and neat guitar licks. It stays true to the deep, meditative spirit of sound system culture and becomes much more roomy and spaced out in the hands of Dub Seva. Prince Jamo's 'Joke' has a cleaner vocal and some natty keys, and also gets dubbed out by Dub Seva. A strong introduction from Deep Bow that showcases talent from both sides of the Atlantic.

Luke's Anger kicks off with the lively 'Choplifter' with his signature wonky techno style present and correct. SOD-90 follows with 'Saving Up For Botox' and blends punk-inspired electro with intense atmospherics and distorted synths. Sepp - "Nopti Tacute"
Review: New Romanian label Midi is making a bold entry into the hustle and bustle of the minimal breaks scene, snapping up some of the key players and giving them a side of vinyl each to get stuck into, all presented in a plush gatefold sleeve. Mihigh and Arapu collaborate on the intricate undulations of "Indigen", which pivots around a finely balanced selection of percussion and spooky blasts of sound. Barac holds down a steadier groove on "In Oglinda", using some choice jazz samples sparingly to create a truly eerie, Lynchian atmosphere. Priku brings a touch more peak time feistiness to "Be Dun Augur" as he works his own pattering drums into a strict and prominent roller perfect for the deeper kind of club, and then Sepp rounds the release off with the illustrious subtleties of "Nopti Tacute".

Mononome - "Before His Fall" (4:16)

Review: Melting Pot is a new label out of Germany that sets out its stall with a compelling slice of hip-hop and R&B. The format is obviously important as they serve this one up with an insert and podcast and limit numbers to just 300 copies. Monome and Piranha are seemingly new names but their sound is well developed. The former opens up with the dusty late night beats and shimmering chords of 'Before His Fall' which has an aching soul sample buried deep within. On the flip is a more crisp and direct tune 'Spaceship' (feat Stereo Utopia) with an airy vocal floating amongst the twinkling keys. This is a great start to what sounds like it could be a vital new label.

The Belgian beatmaker is known for downtempo grooves but shows a different side here with two tracks alongside his band, later known as Placebo but here still known as Kiosk. Their new track for the red-hot Toucan Sounds is 'Run Away!' and it mixes up slamming drums with chopped-up vocals and high-energy grooves that draw inspiration from iconic club divas. The original comes with a Midland Flow State remix that is bass-heavy and lively, and then comes the second original 'Against' which is slower and more percussive with a tribal twist. This one comes with a remix from Tata Sumo & Lakuti who layer in more colourful synths, swirling dub undercurrents and a sense of soul while paying homage to the golden era of house music.

Review: Goats In A Hypnotic State is one of those deep, moving explorations of ambient soundscapes that smudges together ethereal drones, field recording, and mesmerising synth textures. The three-track work evokes a sense of surreal calm as delicate melodies and subtle rhythms build hypnotic atmospheres and each piece unfolds slowly, with layers of sound intertwining to create a vast, meditative space. The organic sounds of nature, such as distant goat calls and wind, ground the work, while the synthetic elements elevate its dreamlike quality. Overall there is no way you can hear this and not be invited into a tranquil, introspective world where time and thought dissolve into the music itself.

Review: After a near two-year break, the shadowy CUE Point label - an imprint based in Valencia, Spain - returns to stores. To reintroduce itself, the imprint has decided to offer-up a multi-artist EP featuring cuts from new signings, old heads and friends of the label. Pad Union kicks things off with the deep, dusty and gently jazzy 'Holodnaya Para' - all rich Rhodes chords, languid bass guitar and crunchy drum machine beats - before storied producer ScruScru joins forces with Guydee on the acid-fired, funk bass-propelled house bounce of 'Nesting Down'. Over on side T, Negroove's ghostly, slipped tech-house jam 'Smoked Jazz' (a track blessed with Villalobos-influenced percussion programming) is paired with EP highlight 'Grisha (Soe)', a chunky and organ-rich slab of peak-time tech-house by label regular Heavenchord.

Whoever Pals & Gal were, their sound is rooted in the classic era of 70s soul even if the track was completed bang on the turn of the decade in 1980. There's a big band arrangement powering 'Lil' Bit Different' which was put together by Ron Foster, and there's as much focus on holding down the groove as different instruments coming to the fore to do their thing. As we wait tentatively for more heartfelt, organic sun-kissed soul, Claremont 56 have commissioned some incredible remixes... "Late Train" gets a full cosmic treatment from the Idjut Boys while Emperor Machine takes it down a dark alley and roughs it up with a series of analogue synth slaps. Ray Mang, meanwhile, focuses on the dreamiest aspects of "The Visitor" and rearranges and polishes them in a way that's reminiscent of a certain Andrew Ashong. Stunning.

Review: Paramida has been a fixture of the Berlin scene for a long time, working behind the counter at Oye Records and more recently earning a residency at Panorama Bar while taking her impeccable DJ skills further afield too. Now she's stepping into the arena of production with a debut release on Love On The Rocks. The label should help hint towards to vibe - uptempo electronic house cuts with a 90s tint and a little of the transcendental magic you might hear in an Eris Drew set. It's empowering, fun and not a little bit wiggy, and it's no surprise to find Eris Drew and Octo Octa lending their talents to a remix of lead track 'Dream Ritual', with Youandewan following suit on the flipside cut 'French House 2000'.

Track 2 (3:04)
Review: Inokasira Rangers aka Park Rangers laid down this curious festive reggae rhythm in 2019. It was written by American musician and song writer Todd Rundgren who could do everything from pop to soul to metal. Here his tune 'I Saw The Light' gets flipped into a real curio with harmonica leads, rolling drums that are tropical and exotic and a good time vibe that is fun and playful. 'Track 2' sounds like a DIY dub with naive chords and natty melodies that are good for the soul.

Review: The young Soul Touch Productions label knocks it out of the park once more with this new 12" featuring Motor City royals at the top of their game. Terrence Parker kicks off with the beautifully uplifting 'Tonight We Luv' with its streaming and soulful melodies and nice smooth drum loops. Drummer B then steps up with the mad piano action and slamming house of 'In My Zone' (feat Javonntte) and last of all, the man so often left out of the early history of Detroit's underground, Eddie Fowlkes, comes through with a spine-tingling vocal deep house delight in the form of 'Hold Me Down'.

Dreamers Blues (Percussion By Jerry The Cat) (10:39)

Review: On his latest expansive double-pack, Theo Parrish has decided to dip into his epic back catalogue. The four featured tracks are taken from two sought-after, hard to find EPs released in 1997 and 2001 respectively. Opener 'Smile' is arguably one of the Detroiter's most magnificent musical moments of all time: an epic slab of drowsy Motor City deep house built around idiosyncratic drum programming, ultra-deep chords, toasty bass and an effects-laden vocal snippet. 'Lost Keys' is a breezier and looser affair marked out by Latin style piano motifs, jazzy house beats and tactile bass, while 'Dreamer's Blues' is a languid, percussion-and-electric piano rich number that tends towards the hazy and jazzy. Finally, 'Lost Angel' is an ultra-deep affair whose spacey chords seem to stretch out eternity.

Dance Of The Drunken Drums (9:07)
Review: Don't let this one go over yo head son! The final repress from Sound Signature HQ is an essential slab of late 90s Motor City deepness from Theo, presented once again for contemporary reassessment and sounding every bit as jaw dropping 14 years on. Dropping back in 1999, title cut "Overyohead" came to be regarded as a quintessential Theo Parrish track; strings incandescent with soul and lovingly off centre Rhodes riding those heavy drum arrangements towards a sweet piano infused crescendo. Face down, "Dance Of The Drunken Drums" is a prime example of Theo's own distinct brand of cavernous beatdown.

Review: Collectors take note: Peacefrog has decided to reissue Theo Parrish's timeless - and much in-demand - debut album, First Floor. Like the original 1998 release, the album is spread over two separately sold double-packs. This first volume contains some of Parrish's strongest work, including the evocative, stretched-out shuffle of "First Floor Metaphor" (all undulating synth bass, dusty deep house beats and sublime string samples), the Luther Vandross-sampling brilliance of "Only The Beginning", the fuzzy hip-hop/beatdown fusion of "Sweet Sticky", and the deep jazz-house brilliance of "Love Is War For Miles". In other words, it's all killer, no filler, but you probably knew that already.

Review: Theo Parrish's long out-of-print debut album, First Floor, has become something of a must-have for collectors. Originally released in two parts way back in 1998 by legendary UK label Peacefrog, it contains some of the Detroit-based producer's finest work. This second installment is packed with highlights, including the loose, loopy deep house funk of "Electric Alleycat", the ultra-deep, Nina Simone sampling haziness of "Sky Walking", and the superb, Moodymann-does-Chicago Acid shuffle of "Heal Yourself & More". It also contains the thrilling "JB's Edit", a dusty, loopy cut-up of an old James Brown tune with tried-and-tested party-starting credentials.

Review: Sean Worsey was a successful lawyer in California when he started getting emails about some music he had released and all but forgotten about back in the 1980s with an obscure band called Passion Theatre. He eventually agreed for one of the tracks to be included on Charles Bals' Retour Au Club Meduse compilation before agreeing to let Sapcetalk put out both of the EPs in full. And here they are - Strange Desire and Mannequin have been assembled together on this gatefold double LP. The music mixes up super tight, high speed funk, strident disco and post-punk energy into a collection of dance floor ready cuts with personality to spare.

The original album came in 1976 after her debut Maiden Voyage on Black Jazz Records. Both were produced by Gene Russell and this single from it is a superbly seductive jazz and soul cover of Barry White's masterpiece 'I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby.' On the flip is a busier jazz-funk cut 'Once Not Long Ago' which brings some fire.

Review: The third volume in Paul Hierphant's excellent Utopian Dystopias series is the most expansive and ambitious yet, with the publicity-shy producer offering up eight tracks stretched across two slabs of purple marbled vinyl. In keeping with the series title and theme, Hierophant delivers a series of moody and atmospheric excursions that combine the sonic sci-fi dreams (and nightmares) of Motor City techno originals (specifically Jeff Mills), with the otherworldly underwater electro of Drexciya. Throw in a bunch of twisted riffs and psychedelic acid lines, and you have a hugely impressive collection of widescreen electro. If that isn't enough to get you going, the set also includes fine remixes from Plant43 (a skittish take on 'Saturn') and Carl Finlow (a funky acid-electro re-imagining of 'Returned Signal').

Review: Turntablist-turned-producer Paul Sitter is back once again with another of his tidy 7"s. This is another one that packs a real punch with a couple of hard hitting b-boy breaks packed with original soul and raw funk. 'Nothing But A Heartache' is the a-side with a Northern Soul vocal busting out of the mix, tambourines bring a sixties feel and the whole hitting nerve quits so is sure to get the floor rocking. On the flipside, 'Nothing Gonna Change (His Way)' is a little slower, the drums more leggy and the vibes a bit deeper for those more sensuous dances.

Review: Six Nine Records welcomes honey-voiced soul man Terrill Paul to the label for the first time, via a two-track 45 written and produced by the prolific Stone Paxton. The cut for dancefloor plays is undoubtedly A-side 'This Time', a pleasingly nostalgic nod to turn of the 80s disco-soul whose grooves, lyrics and instrumentation recall the celebratory brilliance of Earth, Wind and Fire. Just like that band's best moments, 'This Time' boasts a superb lead vocal and a genuinely catchy chorus. Over on the flip, 'Heaven Sent' is a delightfully loved-up slow jam that blurs the boundaries between contemporary soul, r&b and glossy mid-80s productions.

Review: Much like the plethora of Italian artists who were making electronic disco music in the early 1980s, Gino Pavan graced the scene with one, important record before disappearing into the shadows. Aside from the quality of the music, this mysticism is perhaps what is still so fascinating about the whole Italo disco movement, and it's easy to see why original copies of such records are near impossible to find these days. Luckily, Disco Segreta haven't cheated out and, instead, have reissued Pavan's sublime Magico EP in fine style. The lead tune is a timeless slice of disco power, full of gleaming synths, funky basslines and, of course, that inimitable 'space-rock' kinda vibe. The flip ain't too shabby either, with the tribalistic percussion of "La Terra Ed Il Seme" blending ever so gracefully with a hoard of eerie organs and funked-out low-ends, followed by "Electrik Flower" and what is possibly the most future-facing tune made in 1980 - an ocean of bubbling synths and grainy drum machines makes for a total head-spinner. Highly recommended...

Review: London duo Payfone return to Golf Channel with two more stately ageless gems. "Justified" takes a similar tone to their previous floor-burner "Quarantine", all star-lit and subtly cosmic, but with added soul snippets and textures wrapping around the groove like tailored faux fur. "We Are Chains" builds even more fervour with serious spiritual muscle as a Romanthony-level vocal preaches gutsily over another brilliantly slow, steady and broadsword dub disco groove. Definitely something to phone home about.

Alongside a great EP by Aussie Lou Karsh, we have this new one by Greek producer George Kontogiannidis aka Pera Sta Ori, who has racked up some impressive releases thus far on Musar, Brokntoys and Yellow Machines. As on previous works, the Sick Apian EP further explores Kontogiannidis' love of classic UK rave sounds. For instance A side cut 'Antio Zoi (TGRCCC)' utilises pitch shifted hardcore breaks underpinned by a dystopian electro atmosphere. Over on the flip, its '95 all over again on the breakneck junglist stepper 'Xypna' followed by the complex and hypnotic riddims of 'KodS0520 Fyllorroo'.
