Shadow Light EP
Shadow Light EP (grey marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: PRRUKBLK 138. Rel: 29 May 25
Shadow Light (4:48)
Magnatizm (4:44)
Nocturnal (feat D Noyse) (4:41)
Magnolia (4:31)
Dramatism (4:31)
Naperon (feat D Noyse - alternative mix) (4:46)
Review: Portuguese legend and 30-year scene veteran A Paul is no stranger to Planet Rhythm - in fact he has already dropped an EP on the vital label this year. But now he's back with more on this Shadow Light six tracker. The opener is fast and dubby, stripped back and seductive for body and mind. 'Magnatizm' fizzes with more electricity and alien energy and 'Nocturnal' brings manic, anxiety-inducing loops. There is glitch and pent-up tension in 'Magnolia' while 'Dramatism' and 'Naperon' close out with more streamlined and tunnelling techno depths.

Buried In Noise (4:15)
Velvet Kiss (4:55)
State Of Burn (5:02)
Scarred (4:14)
The 242 (4:06)
Review: New week, new Planet Rhythm, same old tech class. Aero is no stranger to this label and hail from Northside Dublin, where they Baldoyle native has been cooking up his take on techno - it's always driven by punchy rhythms but with plenty of synth craft making it much more than mere DJ tool fodder. 'Buried In Noise' has urgent and anxious melodies lighting up the drums while 'Velvet Kiss' is a deeper, more late-night prowler. 'State Of Burn' then bangs with steel-plated loops and 'Scarred' layers up synths that feel like they're going to fall over themselves with a hypnotic and time-keeping drum thud. 'The 242' closes with astral anxiety and a never-ending sense of rush.

Come Again (5:23)
Lurching (4:48)
Crutch (4:45)
Review: Techno powerhouse Planet Rhythm is back with more vital transmissions, this time thanks to Aero. Up first is the no-messing, direct-to-dance-floor banger that is Straight From The Shoulder' with its scintillating percussion and driving kicks. 'Come Again' is even more high octane with taught bass and thundering kicks. 'Lurching' keeps it a little more funky with glitchy sounds and broken beat patterns and 'Crutch' is a final assault that is minimal in design but maximal in effect.

The Renegade (5:23)
The Jam (5:23)
Review: Planet Rhythm's back with its special series and the third instalment is another techno trip into another dimension. Toni Alvarez is the man on the buttons and for the opener 'The Renegade' he pairs panel-beating 90s techno drum loops with classic 90s dance samples to make for something equally intense, nostalgic and futuristic. 'The Jam' is expertly designed techno with pristine hi-hats and hurried kicks all superbly well defined, smooth yet powerful, with another 90s vocal dropped in for some extra throwback fun up top. Two brilliant bangers.

Serenity EP

Chord Expression (5:29)
Borderlands (4:58)
Fallout (5:33)
Serenity (6:24)
Review: You always know what you're gunna get with Planet Rhythm and that is classically inclined techno that is economical in design but never less than high impact. Antic Soul contributes to that fine legacy with this new EP which opens with the high speed and dubby techno lushness of 'Crd Expression' before 'Borderlands' gets more raved up and injected with some raw textures and wobbly stabs. 'Fallout' is wall-rattling, panel-beating dub techno and 'Serenity' is more icy and nimbler, with bouncy drums and stabs all making you move your body at the whim of the machines.

Sonus (7:01)
Deviate (feat Ronald Nels) (6:17)
Amphibian Velocity (6:53)
Crashing Rhythms (6:53)
Review: This is the first in a new collaborative series between Derailed Records and Planet Rhythm who have teamed up for a new vinyl series that launches with Rotterdam's ARKVS. 'Sonus' rumbles with low-end threat and fizzy static that locks you in the moment. 'Deviate (feat Ronald Nels)' is more sparse with claps echoing out to an event horizon as supple acid tones linger in the air. 'Amphibian Velocity' layers up gurgling synths and pent-up drum tension and 'Crashing Rhythms' is a punchy but deep closer and a fourth and final evocative and sophisticated offering which gets this series underway in style.

ARKVS - "Forever Is Never" (6:27)
Edit Select - "Quatro" (6:23)
Edit Select - "Loophole" (6:28)
Review: Planet Rhythm is back once again, this time with a wicked split EP featuring two top techno talents. ARKVS takes care of the A-side with the low-key and deep techno buzz of 'Endorphine' and then the floating drum loops and minimal sound designs of 'Forever Is Never'. Edit Select keeps similar quiet but potent styles alive with his sparse and moody techno roller 'Quatro' while last of all is 'Loophole'. This one has rattling train-on-track style percussive sounds and deeply buried sub-bass all making for a journey as heady as it is physical.

Roller (5:52)
MoonFlow (5:21)
Beacon (5:53)
Synthetic Soul (6:04)
Review: Widely admired techno craftsman Yan Cook serves up four of his most sublime cuts on this new, blue 12" for Planet Rhythm. It sounds as good as it looks right for the first tune with 'Roller' being an absolute definition of that slick and seductive techno sound. 'MoonFlow' then gets more turbulent with its sheet metal synths and howling solar winds adding drama to the fat drums. 'Beacon' then locks you into a clipped drum and bass loop, with rattling industrial motifs and a haunting sense of post-human bleakness. 'Synthetic Soul' is covered with fizzing static and warm, heavy dub drums. Perfection.

With You (5:21)
March On Mars (6:00)
Backstab (6:37)
Instinct (6:25)
Review: Techno doesn't come much more pure and effective than when it is served up by the Planet Rhythm label. At the helm of this fresh serving is Creznight. He goes straight in at the deep end with the muscular drum funk and tightly lopped vocal fragments of 'With You' which soon get you banging the walls. 'March on Mars' is just as direct but funky with warm and punchy kicks triggering percussive rolls and smeared synths. 'Backstab' shows no let up in the drum pressure but does have a more deft melodic touch that allows in some light and 'Instinct' shuts down with more well designed loops, a hint of 90s minimalism and a taught bassline that keeps things moving at pace.

Raindrops (4:33)
Pumping Bush (5:10)
Review: The Crime Partners duo from Nantes, French, are no strangers to this label, having dropped plenty of heat here before. This new EP is another one primed and ready for the club: 'Pumping Bush' bursts out of the blocks with musical drum funk and classic dub chords smeared over the top. 'Raindrops' is a grainy and monochrome dub techno driver with endless reverb to get lost in and 'Deep Cover' is an unsettling pumper that keeps you on edge with its nervy synth loops. There is more upright and punchy techno fun on 'You Got Our Vibe' and 'Keep Pushing' while 'One More' is a great and gritty warehouse banger.

Gazelle (5:21)
Average Channel (6:29)
Ster One (7:25)
Beginner (5:31)
Review: Planet Rhythm must be one of the hardest-working labels in the game - it seems to drop new music on a nearly daily basis but all of it is essential. Dajusch is the man at the buttons here with 'Gazell'e exploring a techno sound as lithe and quick as the animal it is named after. 'Average Channel' brings some dub chords to the party over cantering drums, and it is to Detroit for the machine soul and serenity of 'Ster One'. 'Beginner' closes down with more minimal stripped-back rhythms but no less impact.

Domani (4:00)
Stabs (6:07)
Warmer (7:36)
Review: Death, taxes and quality techno from Planet Rhythm are the three sureties of life. The label that maintains a high laity output and never strays from its blueprint is back with more functional and well-formed sounds, this time from Mattia Dambrosio. He opens with a cut doused in static, fizzing synth lines and with a funky, mid-tempo beat on 'Spring.' 'Ossidiana' dials it back to allow the dub chords and deep roaming bassline room to lure you in then 'Domani' mesmerises with silky synth sequences that glow bright above an implied rhythm. 'Stabs' is an upright and warm techno pumper with Detroit chords and 'Warmer' then takes you way down deep into cavernous underground dub worlds.

'91 (5:35)
Resistance (6:07)
Review: We love a trip to Planet Rhythm because it always results in hearing some fad-free, high-quality techno from key players. DBFB is behind this new white slab of wax and it starts with the hammering drum funk and rippling synth lushness of 'Stroke' before progressing into the pulsing late-night sounds of dubby cut 'Rummage'. '91' takes it back to a simpler time when jacked drums and molten dub chords are all you need for a good time and 'Resistance' shuts down with a more raw edge and driving, percussive techno slammer.

Review: Dub Wars is a series from the mighty Planet Rhythm label that serves up killer cuts with a dub inflection. This new one comes on flame red vinyl from DBFB and kicks off with the driving dub techno intensity of 'Akord.' The superb 'Reminisce' then has more frosty chords rallying over the face of the track as ticking hi-hats keep time. 'Source' is a bunch one with lithe pads and silky drum loops working you into a hypnotic state and 'Radiant' closes out with some kicking broken beats for a more direct vibe.

Error (5:57)
Review: Karol Mozgawa is Polish techno talent Deas, and he brings his class to Planet Rhythm here, although it's Ferdinger remix of 'Dissociation' which gets things underway. It's a speedy and supple techno pile-driver with euphoric chords sure to elevate the 'floor. '8 AM' is much more mechanical and industrial with unrelenting drums and textured hooks peeling off the beats. 'Dissociation' in original form is a classic bit of soulful hi-tek Motor City goodness and 'Error' closes with some raved up synth madness and super-sized hi hats.

Review: Nowhere does techno as proper as Planet Rhythm. This latest 12" is another no-frills banger with rusty synth and menacing drum loops all perfectly intertwined. There is a hurried sense of funk to 'Formation' that really keeps you on edge, while 'Basel' is turbocharged with video-game style synths. 'Romance' gets more edgy and brings some industrial percussion and automation to the beats while 'Here' slips into thumping and loopy house territory of the sort that reminds us of the one and only Floorplan.

Tango (4:52)
Review: Rotterdam label Planet Rhythm has snapped up some searing tech from relative newcomers Dynamic Forces here. The electrifying duo are one again not mucking about here as they serve up some pumping techno bangers that have a playful heart and plenty of great designs buried deep in their unrelenting grooves. 'New Set Up' for example is backlit by a nice heavenly synth glow and 'Plague' is a real head wrecker with twisted leads and super sized hi hats. 'Tango' is a minimal number that moves like a cat on a hot tin roof and seems to get ever quicker throughout.

Review: Strap in for some punchy and unrelenting techno bangers here from Dear Wax on the Planet Rhythm label. This is archetypal future music, cosmic techno for interplanetary travel. The hefty drums of 'Flat Head' are bouncy and funky under the urgent synth stabs and icy over sized hi hats, then 'Rats' scurries along like the rodents it is named after with scraping hits and distant solar winds. 'Dial This Number' is urgent and hurried in its mission to get from a to b as molten chords drip and droop round the beats. 'Sharp Paper' is another one packed with pent up tension and a sense of real drama.

Logg (5:06)
Deep Within (5:32)
Taro (5:34)
Review: Belgian DJ and producer FAiG has been making techno for decades under several different aliases for plenty of top labels. His latest on Planet Rhythm is another hefty slab of subversive sonics with 'South West' layering up streamlined drums and bass with rickety percussion that pans about the mix as distant synths flesh things out further without ever detracting from the rhythm. 'Logg' is more unhinged and urgent with manic synth loops and alarming sirens getting your hackles up as the drums bump on. 'Deep Within' is stylish 90s techno with funky claps skating over the pumping drums and silky bass. 'Taro' runs out with sub-aquatic and dubbed out loopy deepness. It's simple but done well and impossibly effective.

The Arrival (8:26)
Review: Few labels in techno are as consistent as Planet Rhythm. This latest 12" comes on flame red vinyl and Federico Gandin is the man stoking the fires. There is no messing about here as 'The Storm' soon takes off on classically inclined loopy minimal techno grooves with urgent calls and synth pulses. 'Les Intrepides' then pairs a bendy, elastic baseline with scuttling sound FX and tunnelling beats. 'The Hideout' is more glitchy with broken loops and underlapping drums carrying you away while 'The Arrival' actually marks the end in serene, deeply cosmic techno style.

Eon (10:10)
Resin (7:30)
Ergo (4:24)
Review: Glenn Wilson's Planet Rhythm has been a purveyor of dark, cerebral techno music since 1994 and the label has featured a plethora of artists from all corners of the dance sphere. This time around its two artists from Italy who make an appearance, Rome's Giorgio Gigli and Cagliari's Ness, and drop three ultra-slick cuts. "Eon" is as electric and molecular as it suggests, and "Resin" pounds its way with more malice across the room, whereas "Ergo" is broken, stumbling and heavily atmospheric...perhaps the defining moment of this solid EP.

Review: As always there are no frills, no fads and nothing fancy about this fresh slab of techno goodness from Planet Rhythm, just pure and unadulterated rhythms to lose your shit to. Gunlock is the one firing them out and 'Thorax' sure does come at you like machine gun bullets, while 'Mo' Future' is more metal and trippy with its busy, tight synth loops. '19th & Nicollet' keeps things lively with nimble drums and shot, pithy synth details that ping about the mix. There is more brutalism to the hammering drums of 'Good Droids Gone Bad' and still space for two more techno tools that will rewire any dancefloor.

Review: Welcome back to Planet Rhythm, a place where the futuristic music never stops and where techno takes on many different forms. This time out a varied crew of artists take charge starting with KaioBarssalos who offers the powerful, shimmering hi-tek soul of 'Detroit.' There is just as much forward motion but a little more depth to Netty Hugo's 'Ecxtrem' while the most meditative and stripped-back sounds come from The Advent & A.Paul. Review: Having blazed a trail through labels like Suara, Modularz and Liberta in the past couple of years, Klint lands on Planet Rhythm for their first physical release to date, and they've brought the goods to match the occasion. 'Titane' is a consummate slice of banging, loopy techno with some Robert Hood-influenced synth lines keeping the mood tense and driving. 'Sauvage' leans in on atmosphere building with cavernous sound design wielded with precision. 'Perc' keeps things simmering with a deeper cut to open up the B side, and 'Leo' creates a powerful braintwister to take you deep inside on a subliminal ride.

HIs perfectly designed flops could roll for days if you ask us. And that's whether they are edgy and restless as on the unsettling 'Your Fault' or the more intensely layered 'Organic Rewind' which sounds like an automated factory at peak production levels. Boss is known for several top of the bill pounders on respected labels like Knee Deep and his very own Dolegate. Loktibrada is currently cruising trough Europe, hopping from one club to another where the man drops some pure industrial techno sets. End Of June (5:15)
Review: Louis The 4th made something of a splash in 2024, delivering a string of well-regarded EPs on TH Tar Hollow, Prima Materia and Planet Rhythm. He begins his 2025 release campaign with a typically assured return to the latter label, taking us on an imaginary climb up Mount Agung in Indonesia. Hints of this loose theme can be spotted on opener 'Balinese Morality', a pleasingly melodic (but undeniably tough) techno workout in which rising and falling synth loops dance atop a punchy rhythm track and deep, booming bass. The struggle onwards up the mythical volcano is reflected in the dark, breathless and percussively layered techno stomper 'Drive System'. Elsewhere, 'Memoir' explores similar sonic territory to 'Balinese Morality', while 'End of June' tiptoes a fine line between lo-fi techno hedonism and melody-rich peak-time hypnotism

He's no stranger to the mighty Planet Rhythm either, on which he presents his fourth release titled Derived Synthesis. Proper Berlin style techno on this one; from the steely peak time mechanisms of 'Replusled' and the pummeling warehouse techno of the title track featured on the first side. Over on the flip, the minimal and functional Downwards influence is apparent on the hypntosing tool 'Mother Select' followed by the strobe-lit acid frenzy of 'Sected Phase'.

Dis-tracted! (6:03)
Review: The UK's number one house pusher, Mr G, steps out of his own Phoenix G stable and lands on Holland's long-running Planet Rhythm, an imprint ran out of The Netherlands by Glenn Wilson. The music, however, is quality as per usual from our main man but the tracks are a little darker, a little edgier in texture. "M's Retrogade", for instance, is more broken compared to Mr G's usual sound, its metallic percussion stabbing away nicely at the rolling beats, while "Flexable" is deeper, dubbier and straighter. Over on the flip, "Binky's Groove" is a classic G joint, straight highs and ingenious vocal samples sliding like mad, and "Dis-tracted" is a swinging techno belter for peak time floor damage. Red hot!

Remora (6:12)

S-101 (6:00)
Trak (4:36)
Review: Nine months into 2022, Muzmin finally delivers his first EP of the year - a third outing on reborn '90s techno imprint Planet Rhythm. He's typically on-point from the off, first layering creepy, minor key melodies atop a pulsating, non-stop peak-time techno groove on 'Remora' before opting for a mixture of hypnotic drums, off-kilter loops and heady, spaced-out aural textures on the cymbal-heavy 'DF-Meg'. Over on the flip, Muzmin employs a throbbing, tech-trance style modular bassline and creepy, single-note stabs on constantly building title track 'S 101', while closing cut 'Trak' is a blistering blast of raw, intense, lo-fi techno hedonism from the Lory D school of industrial-strength insanity.

What Is Not There (4:51)
Doesnit (6:03)
Nknwn (5:41)
Review: Planet Rhythm is a far-away world where techno is always playing. The Dutch label never lets up with its release schedule but also somehow never compromises on quality either. This EP from Muzmin is a testament to that once more with opener 'Brick' soon establishing a serious groove with automated factory floor sounds adding detail. 'What Is Not There' brings a more cosmic feel with pulsing synth blips and 'Doesnit' has a little texture in the dry hits and fizzy static sounds that marbled the arrangement. 'Nknwn' is the unresolved and unsettling closer for those more warped moments.

Withhold (5:50)
Review: Welcome back to Planet Rhythm where the techno is serious and the grooves compelling. Nachtwaker is behind this one and opens up with the deep and mind-melting 'Post' with its feeling of factory floor automation licking you in. 'Shiver' is another linear and dynamic deep techno cut with synth details peeling off the grooves and static electricity adding some edge. 'Withhold' (Arkvs remix) is more dark and edgy but still stripped back and economical and design and the original rounds out the EP with some nice dubby currents and textural percussion.

Constrain (5:53)
Review: Planet Rhythm is a highly prolific label whose quality levels never dip, all while staying true to a signature sound that is classical and fad-free. The SP Series has furthered its reputation and now hits a tenth edition with Portuguese legend and 30-year scene veteran A Paul at the helm. His opening gambit is a mental deep techno workout with prying bass precision, 'Utopia' gets more unsettled with twitchy stabs and FX and 'Hardcell' unfolds at warp speed with tightly woven layers of synth and bass. There is no let up on closer 'Constrain' which balances minimalism with sophisticated sound design for a pure deep techno trip.

Review: Sweden's Glenn Wilson has been running Planet Rhythm for close to two decades and never let up when it comes to pursuing the most relentless peak time techno for modern dancefloors and here's more from where that came from. Sweden's Petter B provides three tracks on this industrious EP, showcasing his studio finesse and his knack for powerhouse grooves. But it's Portugal's Re:Axis who really shines on this one. First with his track "Proportal" then his remix of Petter B's "Transporter" which is a total main room belter. Check this out!

Review: Planet Rhythm's eponymous production outfit are back with another intense cauldron of acid techno sounds that take no prisoners. There is linear, hard hitting and caustic techno on the opener 'Blue,' then more of the same on 'Innersense' but with a little more skip and height in the drums to bring some darkened funk. 'Red' is a more paired back sound with a razor sharp hi hit cutting up the blocky, heavy wooden beats and 'Inferno' then cuts loose on wild synths and thundering claps with another manic acid line. 'Lost In The Sea' rounds out with some tripped out 303 action.

Shimmering (5:54)
Subtone A (6:09)
Review: Planet Rhythm seems to be in a purple patch right now and is putting out freshen techno platters on a very consistent basis. The in house production team step up for this one and it's the second of the Recycle series on nice purple marbled vinyl. There is nothing nice about the tunes though - they are searing dance floor slayers. 'DF-RT' has hammering drums and hits and freeform synths zipping about the mix while 'PCP' is a more stripped back, heads down, hunched over and late night techno pounder. 'Shimmering' is another tuning and streamlined cut with growing synth energy and 'Subtone A' closes with a snarl.

Re:Axis & Scalameriya - "Spectra" (5:57)
Review: Portuguese techno powerhouse Re:Axis has been working with Planet Rhythm for over eight years now, presenting a dynamic big room sound across a steady stream of EPs. Now he heads up a new VA 12" with 'Protoportal', a sinewy, seductive workout for those darker corners of the dance which originally came out in 2015 alongside tracks by Petter B. Petter B himself then steps up to rework 'Protoportal', twisting it into a thrumming, heads down weapon with an industrial tinge. VSK's 'Wrap' opens up the B side in a masterful display of contemporary Italian techno before the record rounds out with a collab from Scalameriya and Re:Axis, the knotty, dramatic 'Spectra'.

Review: Red Rooms is back on Planet Rhythm not long after his last outing here back in April. Once again here these tunes will get any crowd up on their toes and locked in for some serious techno shapes. 'Radiation' is pure heads down tunnel vision techno tackle. 'Side Effects' layer sup warming solar winds with well programmed drums that almost tumble over one another they are so quickened. 'Black Holes' has a darker vibe with cosmic keys peeling off the beats and 'Drift' brings some muscular techno funk. A versatile EP.

Review: Based in the Amsterdam area and banging out his take on techno since around 2016 on some fine labels, Bob Semp is back on previous home Planet Rhythm. His sleek style is classy and sophisticated as shown on 'Dilemma', a pulsing linear roller with plenty of depth and drive. The drums on 'Moisty Mire' get a little more robust and muscular but are still looped to hypnotic effect and 'Fable' brings a drunken synth line to the fore for some nice off-balance funk. A trio of smart, evocative tunes come on the B-side to make this a brilliantly useful and coherent EP.
