Review: Sasha & Digweed are known for their heavy hands in pop and trance, but the former's best known work has to be 'Xpander', which set him apart from his myriad remixes of Madonna, Moby and The Chemical Brothers back in the day. Now the 4-track EP version of 'Xpander' sees a double 12" reissue from Music On Vinyl, showing off Sasha's taste for advanced breaks-trance, psychic themes and everything in between.

Review: Omar is one of the UK's most notable soul stars and revered vocalists. His 1997 album This Is Not A Love Song came at the heart of the acid jazz explosion and remains one of its most vital works. It was his fourth album in a career that has produced nine overall and has plenty of his signature grooves, from the jazz flecked 'This Is Not A Love Song' to the -soul stylings of 'Wherever' via his spine tingling cover of the classic 'Golden Brown'. This is a limited and numbered 180 gram audiophile gold & black marbled vinyl reissue on Music on Vinyl with new a insert.

Review: "Of all the many noble attempts of the prog rockers to create a grand compositional style which blended elements from classical music with rock, none, in my view, ever reached the intensity, complexity and raw savage excitement of the great Magma masterworks." When you make music that feels like the love child of a rock & roll musical, gospel choir, Frank Zappa and Ziggy Stardust, why should anyone expect you to be even remotely humble when describing your own back catalogue. Magma's 1974 epic is nothing short of batshit crazy in the true sense - bordering, perhaps sprinting well beyond, the point of genius and capable of rendering any room speechless. A stunning example of how wild, exploratory and experimental the music industry was once so proud to be.

Review: It's surprisingly not that common for a director to pick music for their movie. There are accomplished experts at scouring and sourcing the most powerful and moving tunes for cinema, and, of course, composers who have established themselves as maestros of silver screen scores. Luca Guadagnino is an exception to the rule, then, with his coming-of-age drama, Call Me By Your Name, soundtracked via his choices. And what choices they are. The film itself is beautiful and incredibly moving, adjectives which also apply to the accompanying sounds. From the theatrical pop of Loredana Berte, to the staggering instrumentation of Ryuichi Sakamoto and heartfelt cries of Sufjan Stevens, this collection of tones is as varied as it is captivating from beginning to end, and - whether you've seen the flick or not - deserves a place on everyone's shelf.

Review: Eddie Harris was an iconic American jazz musician who revolutionised the genre by introducing the electrically amplified saxophone. With a prolific career spanning over 50 albums, Harris seamlessly blended jazz with funk, earning Grammy Award nominations for two of his groundbreaking records. Among them, the 1983 release People Get Funny..s' stands out. Featuring tracks like 'People Get Funny When They Get A Little Money' and 'La Carnival' which exemplify his signature jazz-funk fusion with captivating vocals and scatting, it las has other gems like 'Silver Plated,' which showcase a more traditional jazz-hard-bop style. Accompanied by talented musicians like drummer Carl Burnett, electric pianist William S. Henderson III, and bassist Larry Gales, this limited edition release of People Get Funny... is pressed on translucent pink vinyl.

Review: Krush's eighth - and last - album Jaku is up there with Endtroducing and Donuts in terms of seminal, influential and forward-thinking beat longer players. 10 years since its release and it still sounds as timeless, unique and exciting as it did in 2004. The slick licks of a young Mr Lif on "Nosferatu", the post-apocalyptic tension of "Univearth" the sludgy, swampy cosmic hip-hop of the Aesop Rock-featured "Kill Switch" and the unashamed sax sex of "Slit Of Cloud"..... Do we need to go on? Limited edition, 180g transparent vinyl; even if you already have this in your collection this is a very, very appealing investment.

Review: The backstory to this one is great. It starts in 1978 when a New York producer was in need of some studio musicians to lay down some fast and funky rhythms for a band he was working with, The Imperials. Minneapolis talents Andre Cymone and Prince Rogers Nelson duly stepped up and recorded 'Fast Freddy The Roller Disco King'. An album from the Imperials was set to follow but it never did, leaving us with this one majestic cut. It's soul-drenched and cosmic disco with a killer vocal back with a more leggy and slow-motion cosmic wonder, 'I Just Wanna Be Your Lovin' Man.'

Review: Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora became known as "the barefoot diva" because, well, you guessed it, she often used to perform on stage with no shoes on. Her sounds are often classed as world music and she often sang in her native Cape Verdean creole but also on occasion in French and Portuguese, always with a certain melancholic aura. Her Distino di Belita album was a second studio long player with Jose da Silva and it includes a mix of her signature acoustic mournas and electric-coladeras as well as her most popular tunes, the superb 'Nova Sintra' and moving 'Distino di Bilita'.

Produced by the legendary Allen Toussaint who was known for his work with Lee Dorsey, The Meters, and Dr. John, the album blended funky rhythms, soulful melodies, and socially aware lyrics. It featured the single 'How About Love' along with standout tracks like 'You've Got Your Spell On Me' and 'Let The Music Take Your Mind.' Praised for its energy and creativity at the time, the album solidified Chocolate Milk's reputation in the funk and soul scene and sounds as good here as ever.

Review: Most people will remember the New Radicals from their international hit single (well, certainly UK and US hit single) 'You Get What You Give' - a Waterboys-esque slice of emotionally charged indie with rousing message about how putting in is the only real means of receiving anything good. Releasing just one album - this one, from which that song was taken - diving into the full record now, 24 years on, is intriguing.

While that statement track might have convinced many otherwise, newcomers will find that Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too is actually a pretty wild ride through psychedelic-leaning poppy rock. Or rocky pop, it's hard to know which order to punt for. Fundamentally, though, this is a way more complex and fascinating outing than That Big Anthem would have you expecting, nodding to early-Aerosmith, INXS and more.

Review: This is the sole album from soulful vocalist Bobby Wilson, and it was originally released in 1975. A vibrant mix of early 70s East Coast soul styles, the record blends upbeat tracks inspired by the burgeoning club scene with tender, heartfelt ballads all recorded across Detroit, Philadelphia and Miami. It was produced by Vernon Bullock with orchestration by Paul Riser and features the UK soul hit 'Deeper and Deeper' which fantastically captures the warmth and spirit of its era. Now reissued for the first time since 1975, this classic album debuts on coloured vinyl and is sure to appeal to soul heads from across the ages.

Review: Twilight of the Gods features one of many evocative soundtracks from Hans Zimmer, Omer Benyamin and Steven Doar. Between them, they bring a sweeping cinematic scope to an epic narrative with their usual sense of masterful scoring. Zimmer and his collaborators blend orchestral intensity with atmospheric depth here to enhance the mythic tone of the story. From haunting melodies to powerful crescendos, this soundtrack captures the emotional gravity and grandeur of the gods' twilight moments and each track layers intricate instrumentation that pulls listeners into a vivid, immersive world that echoes the film's themes of fate, power and destiny.

Review: American jazz fusion outfits don't come much more venerated than Weather Report. Fronted by leader Joe Zawinul, the ensemble evolved subtly throughout their career and it was in 1974 that they dropped this album, Sweetnighter. It proved to be a little more funky and influenced by the emerging t&b of the day than its predecessors and it is also noted for being the last long player the band cut with original bassist Miroslav Vitous, as well as being the band's first album to make it into the Top 100 in the US charts of the day. It sodas as good now as ever on this nice heavyweight vinyl pressing.

Review: Black, Gold & Green was the first of three albums Ken Boothe recorded with producer Lloyd Charmers, who did fine job of elevating his Memphis-via-Kingston sound. Featuring some of Boothe's finest soul vocals, standout tracks include 'Out of Love,' 'Missing You,' and the gritty 'Second Chance' which offers up a vocal style reminiscent of the one and only dock man, Otis Redding. Rooted in powerful religious and social messages, the album carries a deep political undertone throughout. Quite notably, it also features a superb cover of Bill Withers' lovely 'Ain't No Sunshine' as part of an album that marked a significant evolution in Boothe's fusion of Jamaican soul and reggae.

This classic album gets a deserving and limited, numbered, 180-gram pressing on orange vinyl that perfectly showcases Boothe's signature style. The album features notable tracks such as Syl Johnson's well-known cover of 'Is It Because I'm Black' and the iconic 'Let's Get It On' which was originally by Marvin Gaye. Review: US3's debut album Hand On The Torch was a landmark record when it dropped back in 1993. At a time when the world was getting to grips with sample culture, Blue Note reached out to the London-based crew and gave them access to the archives. With such a rich pool of source material, they got busy strapping iconic breaks and licks from one of the great jazz stables to crisp beats. There's a lot of ground covered, with hip-hop jams sidling up alongside funky beatdowns and plenty more besides. It's a stone cold classic given the reissue treatment, bringing the likes of 'Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)' back to life for a new generation.

The third album in Brown's career, Super Reggae and Soul Hits marked a significant turning point and helped to establish him as a versatile singer-songwriter capable of crafting deeply soulful music. It highlighted his ability to connect with an adult audience as he explored the interaction of reggae with soul influences, emotional depth and musical maturity. This album played a crucial role in solidifying Brown's reputation as one of reggae's most influential artists so remains an essential part of his story.

Review: Idris Muhammad, a prominent American jazz drummer and bandleader, has left an indelible mark on contemporary music as one of its most sampled drummers. His 1976 album House Of The Rising Sun likely fuelled this reputation, thanks to Muhammad's impeccable rhythmic precision. Renowned for his tight, rubbery style, Muhammad's mastery shines through in the six long jazz-funk tracks on the LP. Each piece showcases his unwavering commitment to the craft, delivered with ultra-crisp quality. Despite his acclaim, it's doubtful Muhammad ever faced flying cymbals during his illustrious career, a testament to his undeniable skill and professionalism.

Review: Considering how much most modern rockers don't talk about the Melvins, or Melvins as the Washington staters should technically be referred to, it's insane how much influence they had on the development of late-20th Century guitar sounds. Without Dale Crover, Buzz Osborne and Steven Shane McDonald, we're not sure there would have been grunge at all. Kicking but not screaming out of the Pacific Northwest in 1983 (at which time Mike Dillard was playing drums, later replaced by Crover), Houdini is their fifth studio album and by this point they'd more than found that legendary groove. Sludgy, thick, stompy and a little bit swampy, these are the riffs that inspire limbs to move of their own accord, setting the tone for a range of bands from Soundgarden and Nirvana to Tool, Sun O))) and Slipknot.

The role of the narrator on the recording was initially offered to both Peter Ustinov and Alec Guinness who both turned it down, before David Bowie agreed to take on the role, supposedly as a Christmas present to his son. On the B-side is another equally as charming piece of recent classical history, Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra as narrated by Hugh Downs.

Never being fully acclaimed when it was originally released, this is one album which really spans the full circle in terms of artistic ideas sonic experimentations. While being tagged primarily as a pop work, it's really more of a lesson in synth manipulations and nutty beat-making. Review: Originally released in 1996, Ear Candy would serve as the sixth full-length from often unfairly slept on progressive metal-oriented hard rock titans King's X. Following on from the commercial success of their 1994 predecessor Dogman, the album would be the band's last for Atlantic Records as it failed to hit the same numbers, yet that blessing in disguise would eventually give them a new lease on life with Metal Blade. Long out of print, the wonderful people over at Music On Vinyl have given the record its overdue flowers with their reliable numbered 180-gram audiophile treatment on lush purple wax, restoring the highly technical yet accessible fluidity of bangers such as 'Sometime' and 'Picture', with the latter being an updated version complete with new lyrics of an older cut titled 'The Door' originally written under their previous moniker Sneak Preview, while 'A Box' features guest vocals by Glen Phillips of California jangly alt rockers Toad The Wet Sprocket.

Review: The Stones Roses endure as a popular indie band decades after they were really relevant. Some of their biggest moments were all touched up by a selection of remixes who were at least loosely associated with early acid house, baggy and the indie dance cross over of the same period. 808 State go first and flip 'Made of Stone' into an electric big of indie-techno. Grooverider flips the most iconic of them all, 'Fools Gold', into a low riding breakbeat roller while Paul Oakenfold & Steve Osborne's Verizon of 'Waterfall' leaves al the glorious tumbling guitar melodies intact and beefs up the beats.

Review: Soundtrack maestro Ennio Morricone is back with Psycho, the second in a series of five double vinyl releases that collect his best filmic work. This volume is focussed on his work with Italian directors from the late 1960s up to the 1980s and the music was made for dark films and the occasional horror. This is the Italian's milieu, though, where he feels most at home and gets his best results. This limited pressing on translucent red vinyl includes a four page insert with liner notes written by Claudio Fuiano and plenty of eerie tracks that will have you looking over your shoulder.

But you can now improve your Christmas soundtrack by at least some percent with this heavyweight double album on translucent magenta and clear vinyl featuring a weird and wonderful array of festive-themed rock, soul and pop songs. Chances are many of these will be new to you - but there are some real gems here, such as the gentle tiny of sleigh bells on Marvin Gaye's 'Purple Snowflakes,' Booker T & The MG's funky 'Jingle Bells' and The Kinks rock licked 'Father Christmas.'

The famous and original music factory was a real production line in the 60s, turning out hit after hit that reigned soul and pop for a new generation. All the most iconic gems are here by the lies of Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracle, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas and Billy Preston & Syreeta amongst many more.

It drew together all their finest moments from the proceeding decade but gets the full reissue treatment here with limited numbered gatefold 180 gram and coloured wax. The Belgian rock band hail from Antwerp and in their heyday mixed up alt-rock, post-grunge and folk rock on a series of albums that went gold and platinum in various countries around the world. This collection has all the big, stadium-sized tunes as well as the more quiet moments of introspective calm. It's a great reminder of a band that had a big impact at the turn of the millennium.

This version comes with the 1996 single 'Ridin' as a bonus track nestled at the end of the second side of this limited edition cotton-candy LP. Elsewhere the tunes brim with bonkers mash-ups, country over hardcore, funky club music with Euro dance samples, skipping garage floaters overrun with euphoria and harder dance with gabber tinges. It's brilliantly mad.

She put it out on her own Twisted Elegance label and at the time said that "The title is how people responded to me in social situations. I realised that those things that deflect me from social situations - not getting along with your coach or your boss or whatever - it made me realise I had to choose a different path."It is a highly creative work of experimental electronic which has since seen her go on to your 35 countries. Now for the fist time ever the album is pressed up to 2000 individually numbered copies of clear vinyl.

Review: Much like the Sex Pistols, Bow Wow Wow were as much a product of Malcolm McLaren's commercial nous and love of provocation as they were a band, but with the passage of time you can hear their music in a different light. Made up of former Adam & The Ants members and teenage singer Annabella Lwin, they whipped up a powerful twist on the new wave template in which Burundi-style drumming, twanging Americana and post-punk scratchiness collided with pop hooks. If you can't get enough of that era of music, you will surely love discovering or re-discovering this breakthrough album from one of popular music's true curios.

The record has a sure place in hip-hop history and has since it was originally released in 1994. The album showcases the duo's famous and unparalleled chemistry, with Pete Rock's soulful production and CL Smooth's smooth lyricism blending seamlessly on tracks that continue to resonate with listeners and very much capture the essence of 90s hip-hop while still remaining relevant today. 'Sun Won't Come Out', 'The Main Ingredient', and 'Get On The Mic' all demand to be played loud and proud

Saxophonist Wayne Shorter is the most well-known of the band's members and after starting out as an experimental and free improvising outfit they eventually got more funky and edgy with hints of r&b creeping into their sound. The band always made use of the layettes synth technology and were one of the defining acts of the jazz era of their time as a result. Their eighth album, 1978's Mr Gone, is one of their most loved and ended up at Number 1 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart.

That's the premise that Music on Vinyl taps into here with a bumper collection of classics across a pair of heavyweight magenta and translucent yellow vinyl. Plenty of the jams included here are stone-cold anthems such as Rose Royce's seductive 'Car Wash', Chic's truly legendary 'Le Freak' with its iconic bassline, and The Gap Band's languorous 'Oops, Upside Your Head.' There are also some interesting inclusions such as Diana Ross's string laced 'The Boss' and undeniable dance floor fillers such as James Brown's still sexy 'Get Up I Feel Like Being A Sex Machine.'

Much of it is being reissued by the behemoth that is Music On Vinyl and next is a limited edition marble red and blue vinyl version of this three-track 12". There is a campness to this which fans of the likes of Erasure are sure to enjoy - 'Jet Airliner# (Fasten Seat Belt mix) has big 80s drum sounds and glistening synths while the vocals drown in reverb. The instrumental is a little more clean though the drums and arps still make for a big impact and the radio version is also included to close.

It of course induces the title track which was the first to make them stars on the international stage and even managed to hit the heady heights of #14 on the UK charts. It's an album that shows how ska from the mid-60s had an influence on the rocksteady sound and as well as the 'Spanky Town' classic you'll hear gems like 'Israelites' from 1968 and 'It Miek' from 1969.

If you don't remember the name you will remember the music as they topped charts and got heavy TV play, not least for most notable single 'I Wish You Would'. All in all this is an album of heartwarming and emotional indie pop niceness you're likely to fall head over heels for again, hence the fact it has been covered by innumerable stars since its initial release. In many ways, once you know the story the track takes on a very different form - far less amorous and much more about longing and lamentation. This latest reissue comes in red and black marble vinyl.

Review: After emerging from Mike Sheridan and The Night Riders, Birmingham's The Idle Race sought a new guitarist in late 1966 and decided to hire local teenager Jeff Lynne. By the time they signed with Liberty Records, Lynne, younger than his bandmates, had become the frontman and showcased his talents as the chief songwriter and lead vocalist. Their debut album, The Birthday Party, came in October 1968 and combined Beatles-esque melodies with surreal, ambitious British pop and duly received critical acclaim. Despite this, it didn't sell well due to Liberty's decision not to release a supporting single but it is now recognised as a classic so gets reissued on nice heavy vinyl complete with a 24-page booklet of rare photos and a new essay.

Review: Quill were a Boston-based rock band that gained national attention after performing a standout show at the legendary Woodstock festival in August 1969 despite only having formed just two years before in 1967. The quintet played throughout New England and New York and soon earned praise for their high-energy rock infused with psychedelia, jazz, and elements of performance art. Brothers John and Dan Cole handled most of the songwriting and created complex compositions that fuelled their always dynamic live shows, which often featured heavy audience participation. Quill's innovative approach and unique blend of styles made them a standout act in the late 1960s rock scene and mean this album remains a favourite years on, which his why it now gets a welcome reissue.

The record was produced by John Kurzweg and managed to achieve Gold status with several singles going on to become hits such as 'Away From Me,' 'Spin You Around,' and 'Heel Over Head.' This reissue features a four page booklet with lyrics and listening to is an immediate ticket back to the turn of the millennium when baggy jeans, over-gelled hair, wallet chains and Etnies were all the rage.

Review: The legend of the late great musical maverick and fascinating soul that was Lee 'Scratch' Perry will never diminish, such was the impact of what he did in the world of dub and reggae. He sure did a lot of it, too, so reissues will always come thick and fast with the latest being Jamaican E.T.. It came on February 5, 2002 via the Sanctuary/Trojan label and went on to win the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. His psychedelic dub roots are at the heart of each tune with elements of modern, roots and lovers rock all featuring. Check his cover of 'I'll Take You There' for the real highlight here.

Review: Heatwave's greatest hits collection from 1984 is a perfect embodiment of their sound. Disco, soul and funk all combine to thrilling and floor filling effect across nine tracks. The band formed in the mid-70s in Europe but had members from all over the world. Johnnie Wilder was the founder and an American serviceman based in West Germany who stayed put after the war and sang in local clubs before hooking up with Rod Temperton in the UK. 'Boogie Nights' is their most iconic and successful hit and it opens this collection in gloriously uplifting fashion.

Review: Blaqk Audio aka AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget dropped their second album Bright Black Heaven back in 2012. It now gets reissued via Music On Vinyl and has been cut on 45rpm for extra low-end punchy and louder volume. It comes on individually hand-numbered clear vinyl and is housed in a gatefold sleeve so is a special collector's piece indeed. Upon release, the album topped the US charts in the Billboard Dance and Electronic categories and has a moody synth vibe, darl pop sounds and plenty of 80s flourishes all bottled up with some gothic overtones.

Review: A pivotal figure in the early 1970s MPB scene, Salvador was not only a highly regarded sessionist and composer but also a band leader. His 1971 album is a vibrant mix of bossa nova, samba, funk, and carioca styles, infused with raw energy. Original copies of this influential fourth album often fetch around $200 due to its eclectic range. From the lively opener 'Uma Vida' to the Beatles-esque narrative of 'O Rio' and the orchestral boogaloo of 'Number One', the album showcases Salvador at the height of his fusionist creativity and musical prowess.

Review: Huge guitar solos, a not-so-subtle hint of seduction and romance, rousing choruses and an attitude that screams: "I'm gonna make that heavy metal hand signal every five or six minutes." Warrant may not be the first name on everyone's lips when it comes to the heyday big room, sexually charged glam metal, but when all is said and done they did pretty well during their seven years in the game.
Emerging from the Los Angeles scene of the mid-late-1980s, a city that has a lot to answer for in these musical ends, by the time they packed up their Fenders and called time more than 10million albums had been sold, with the double-platinum Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich the real gem of the lot. Dog Eat Dog came along a little later, in 1992, and by this point the group had really got into gear. Don't expect the same tangible hunger and impact as the inaugural effort, then, but in many ways this is far more complete example of what they were gunning for.

Review: It's now a quarter of a century since Terry Callier released his Timepeace album, which was his first after a 15 year break. The record won the United Nations's Time For Peace award for outstanding artistic achievement and for "contributing to world peace." It features standout tunes like 'People Get Ready' and 'Brotherly Love' composed by Curtis Mayfield, as well as a guest spot from Pharoah Sanders on tenor-saxophone on the title song 'Timepeace' and seven other wondrous tunes that showcase soul, jazz, folk influences. This reissue includes an insert with lyrics and liner-notes by Tom Terrell.
