Review: Visages continue to defy and confound expectation with another adventurous EP that traverses a number of different moods, grooves and tempos on the 1985 Music label. 'Lunar Eclipse' features Strategy and races out of the blocks on a clean and stepping half time rhythm, with groaning asbs and slick bars. 'Hagakure' calls upon a guest feature from Drone and is a dark, go slow and creepy atmospheric cut before 'Familiarity' with Monty picks up the pace with nice and icy breakbeats and twisted bass. 'Sunshine Mystery' closes out with the most soulful sound of the lot, melancholic chords and soothing vocals.

Review: Three years since this formidable French troupe turned lead to gold on their debut, Visages' alchemy continues to bubble over with this utterly exceptional sophomore. Spanning the whole rainbow of styles from neo soul to grime to dubstep and a pungent range of dnb strains, this really is a unique and beguiling universe of sounds, themes, brutalist moments and poignant motifs. Complete with lyrical guidance from the likes of Strategy, Verbz, Chimpo, Snowy and others, there's a powerful adventure to be had among these tracks from the furious futurism of the opener 'Transhuman Music' to the woozy jazzy echoes of the closer 'Kintsugi', this is nothing short of outstanding.

Review: Visages are a four-strong crew out of Toulouse who fly the flag for a true-school, soundsystem approach to club music. Their drops to date have spanned labels like Flexor Audio, Impact Music and Dispatch Recordings, but since 2020 they've been building something formidable with Alix Perez's 1985 Music label. Now this build up culminates in the knockout From Lead To Gold, a masterful long player of hard-hitting steppers and snaking d&b workouts which will have seasoned heads and new listeners alike getting giddy. Perez himself lends a hand on 'Black Katana' but really the achievement is all in the hands of these four talented up and comers.
