Bun So Nude (4:38)
Review: The funny thing about Bristol's Livity Sound is that it manages to take on a new life with each and every release that emanates from its star-studded catalogue. Recently, we had Mosca and Hodge dropping some badness, while Peverelist and Kowton have been holding it down for donkey's years thanks to constant fluxes of new, game-changing bass music. This time it's newcomer I III who delivers the goods, coming through with the wonky steps of "Dolce" at first, a bouncy bit of side-step techno with that inimitably loose UK flow at its epicentre. On the flip, "Bun So Nude" ups the tempo and unleashes a formidable blockade of bleeps that'll have you hypnotised in no time - not to mention that sweet cascade of tribal rhythms too!

Cold Soaking
PR812
Review: Ikonika's first new material in almost two years, I Make Lists is expectedly blinding stuff. The title track takes her typically funky approach in the rhythm department and drapes ice cold sheets of electrode synths over the top, making audible the Starfox inspired Mode 7 SNES vector graphics on the cover. On the flip, "Cold Soaking" delivers jagged shards of bass and crystalline melody, jutting off at obtuse angles, while "PR812" completes the trio of videogame inspired beats, with a searching melody that sounds like its come straight out of a Japanese RPG, albeit with jackhammer beats that show the producer remains peerless.

Into U (vocal) (4:58)
Into U (instrumental) (4:58)
Review: Grande designs from Ikonika as she unleashes her long coveted bootleg of Ariana's massive "Into U". Built around an industrial-strength 80s style track that Madonna would have swapped her full holiday entitlement for, it's less of a bootleg and more of a complete revision as the vocals cut through the mix and wrap around each element like they were meant to be. Your crowd don't want the full vox treatment? Flip for the equally sharp instrumental.

Review: It's still early days for Inkke but this release for Local Action should find the emergent grime-influenced producer reaching a wider audience with his distinctive synth rich take on bass music. With six originals to choose from, this EP is a perfect primer for those wanting to get a feel for the artist, ranging from the uptempo thrust of "Thinkk Star (Club Mix)" with its 4/4 stylings through to the exotic slow-motion funk of "Paradise" featuring the soulful croon of Julia Jaban. There is diversity at every turn that points to a multitude of fates awaiting Inkke as his star rises in the multifaceted work of electronic music.

Nina At The Boiler Room (Kowton remix)
Review: Creme return to the scene of the crime! Last year's label debut from Belgian producer Innershades is revisited in fine style as Tuff City Kids and Livity Soundman Kowton turn in club focused refixes of 12" highlight "Nina At The Boiler Room". Both remixes are what you'd expect from the respective production units and thankfully keep that air horn in place! In the hands of Frankfurt dons Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer "Nina" is transformed into a stealthy acid house meets piano house jammer that will please fans that like their house rugged and raw. Kowton meanwhile turns in a weapons grade DJ tool that shows off his mastery of rolling percussion and unrelenting drums.

Mosaic Vol #1: Sampler 2

Instra:mental - "Scene 3"
Mode - "Stepping Stones"
Review: Exit Records drop a second tantalising Mosaic Vol 1 ten inch sampler ahead of the main course which is set top drop at the end of the month. Instra:mental plough deep into the bowels of downtempo machine funk drum and bass experimentalism on "Scene 3", with a decidedly neon tinged synth hook swirling around the spaces between cascading industrial percussion and spurts of sci fi bass menace. On the flip, Mode works at a similar tempo on "Stepping Stones" with the barbed electronic pulses and intermittent bursts of sub bass dynamics that ride the half step stutter, offset by pads rich with ethereal detail. Big tip!

Track 1 (5:48)
Track 2 (6:32)
Track 3 (5:25)
Review: Here's some fresh techno from Intercepts, a new project dropping three slabs of hi-def, immersive club material from three different un-named artists for adventurous souls. 'Track 1' moves at a slower tempo and deals in fractured rhythms, all the better to carry the huge swathes of atmospheric sound design. 'Track 2' rolls with a deceptive discoid funk which contrasts neatly with the looped up Berlin techno-friendly elements. 'Track 3' takes things even further out into experimental - but still rhythmical - territory, marking Intercepts out as a label with a strong sense of adventure and their own distinctive way of merging influences into something which may well tickle your ear drums.

Running Out Of Time
Review: Props to Planet Mu for making this one happen; Interplanetary Prophets sees Hieroglyphic Being and Ital combine on record for the three track Zero Hour EP. This collaboration came to fruition as part of last year's Unsound in Krakow, with festival organisers especially commissioning the performance from Hieroglyphic Being aka Jamal Moss and Ital's Daniel Martin McCormick. Despite being intended as a one off live performance, Planet Mu seemingly coaxed the pair to commit some of the material to record. The Zero Hour EP features three dense, extended pieces that were edited down from a series of studio jams that Moss and McCormick recorded earlier this year and whilst it's much closer to something you'd hear on Mathematics rather than 100% Silk, there's plenty of evidence to suggest they have used the points of overlap in their previous work as a jumping off point for fresh explorations of techno's burgeoning hinterlands. More please!

Signal Motion
Review: Running rampant with a tub-thumping horror film drum pattern, this is dark drama on a cinematic scale. Taking in techno references along the way, the superbly-titled "Persistent Dread" thuds and thunders with carnal focus. For added darkness flip for "Signal Motion" where the riddim takes a more developed, polyrhythmic twist and sheet metal screams moan quietly in the fills. Ipman is on top of his game with these two cuts; essential for all dub and tech heads.

Review: Commonly seen sharing 12? space with Killawat, Ipman has links to Pinch having committed one of the earliest releases on his techno-focused Cold Recordings label back in 2013 as well as contributing a production to the Pinch B2B Mumdance mix CD from last year. This Regicide 12" formalises links between Ipman and Tectonic and arrives ahead of a mooted debut album from the producer for the label later this year. The title track is a rugged ode to hardcore jungle badness that fits the current direction of Tectonic to a tee whilst the flips sees a new version of "Ghostrunner", Ipman's high pressure contribution to that Pinch B2B Mumdance mix.

Attention Seeker
Review: Following sturdy releases with the likes of Presk and Tessela, Audio Culture make a more decisive move into the realms of house music with this bumpy jam from Iron Galaxy; a production moniker with little to no reference points. Released as a self-assured single-sided 12", "Attention Seeker" hits upon a hooky lead synth that bounces and warps around the garage shuffle of the beat while an aqueous pad cools off those heated elements for a fully balanced listening experience. It's functional where it counts, but the heart and soul of the track ensures it'll strike deeper than a one-dimensional rhythm track.

Namkha (Kahn remix)
Review: Coming out of the ever-growing Young Echo collective in Bristol, Ishan Sound gets snapped up by Pinch for a bout on Tectonic that brings their mystical system-testing pressure to a wider audience. "Namkha" lurches forth on a distinctively swung half step rhythm, adding a curious lilt to the pan pipe synths that pea out of the track. "NN Special" takes the same theme and delivers an alternative version, keeping that nagging groove in place. Young Echo cohort Kahn steps up for a remix of "Namkha" that feeds some more gnarly soundsystem stylings into the mix, with a drop that's utterly understated and immeasurably malicious.

Ishan Sound & Hodge - "C5" (4:37)
Ishan Sound & Muttley - "Still Smoking" (4:24)
Review: Having recently notched up 100 releases, Tectonic begins a new era by offering up a suitably weighty collaborative release from Peng Sound regular Ishan Sound. On side A, the Young Echo member joins forces with Hodge - owner of the nicest hair in techno - for the deep and dreamy dubstep shuffle of "C5", where fluid riffs dance above a blazed but powerful beat. Muttley lends a hand on flipside cut "Still Smoking", an altogether livelier and more aggressive - if still suitably deep and hazy - 140 BPM workout that comes complete with stabbing, grime style riffs and some serious subsonic bass.

Slower Degrees Of Separation
Review: Given the busy, junked up collage nature of his two albums for Planet Mu as Ital, Daniel Martin-McCormack and Workshop might not feel like the most immediate of bed fellows. However the 18th Workshop release sees the celebrated American producer return to the sort of music he was exploring on the excellent Culture Clubs 12" for his own Lovers Rock label in 2011 and indeed adopt some of the dustier, stripped back traits of the label. The slow beatwork of "Ice Drift (Stalker mix)" comes joined with warm tones and trippy textures, the ambient "Slower Degrees Of Separation" has all the hallmarks of a Madteo instrumental, while "Pulsed" offers the most dancefloor focused cut.

Review: Brighton-based DJ and producer Ital Tek seems to divide his productions evenly between Planet Mu and Civil Music these days. After first appearing on the latter label with the suitably complex rhythmics of Hyper Real in early 2013, Alan Myson returns with a second forward thinking offering for Civil in the shape of Mega City Industry. As the title suggests, the four tracks here seem to be a continuation of last year's mini LP Control for Planet Mu in both Utopian theme and sound. Expect an intricate cross pollination of footwork and the hardcore tropes of '90s jungle, something that is displayed with dizzying results on "Shinra".

Review: French fusionista Izem steps up to Gamm with three international boundary-smelting funk gems that star point blank into the future while retaining strong roots to the past. "ITT" is almost techno in its relentlessness as it breaks into a hyper-charged, steppy Afrobeat. With its Latin licks and clipped chants, "Celia" is so Brazilian you can hear the cheers from Rio Maracana Stadium. Finally, "Hajja" is the most retrospective of the three thanks to its electro boogie bass, lavish pianos and sultry French vocal. Three edits made wholly his own, each of these cuts emphatically explains why Izem has enjoyed white hot hype from the Wah Wah crew, Gilles Peterson and Quantic.

Review: Ahead of the full Modeselektion 3 compilation (which looks to be the most diverse collection thus far) Monkeytown offer a 12" taste of what to expect featuring contributions from Night Slugger L Vis 1990, Schlachthofbronx, Illum Sphere and French Fries. Calling shotgun, L Vis 1990 lays down what can only be described as a not-messing-about-mate marker in the shape of the awesomely surreal industrial/ghetto house hybrid "Funk 4D", German Disko B regulars Schlachthofbronx also turn up with Buraka Som Systema for the totally out there detuned grind "Volumen". Illum Sphere lays down some brisk, taut percussive styles on "Bullet" whilst ClekClekBoomer French Fries reps Paris with the Mike Parker gone electro vibes of "Shift".

Review: Sccucci Manucci once again proves its dancefloor chops with its fifth release, the Cinquemila Lire EP, which sees the London based imprint curl its moustache in the direction of deep house. Manchester based duo Toyboy & Robin open proceedings with "No More Sunshine", an insouciant mix of soulful vocals, shuffling garage percussion and burning deep house organ stabs. It's a heady, intoxicating mix, and it's one that's matched on the A-Side by Sahin Meyer's effort; the husband and wife duo turn in the gorgeous "Spread Love", a cut that wrings every last drop of emotion out of a classic, drummy arrangement. Flip over for "Saif" by Illyus, a twinkling late night excursion into melodic, star gazing house, and "Feel Love" by Firas, one half of the Waze & Odyssey, who rounds off another killer Sccucci 12-inch with raw-thentic smacky beats and an addictive loopy vocal and bassline.

XXXY - "Body Moving"
XXXY - "Swing Those Hips"
Ike Release - "Don't Know"
Ike Release - "Outrun"
Review: Some Chicago meets Mancunia action on the Infrasonics imprint as Ike Release and xxxy team up once again on the London label's well received split release 12" series. With a trajectory in 2011 that's been on the constant ascendance, asking xxxy to return was a bit of a no brainer, and the Mancunian seems more than a bit inspired by the dynamic juke rhythms currently spurting out of Chicago right now on "Body Movin". Based around the titular vocal hook, xxxy lays down an increasingly pressurised flex of tumbling toms, which deviates into a jagged filtered under section quite brilliantly. "Swing Those Hips" centres around the rhythmic interplay between stabbing chords and dextrous bass squiggles, whilst the swinging percussion charms in the way it almost veers off key throughout. Ike Release mans the B Side with aplomb, serving two tracks that truly whet appetites for his forthcoming long player! "Don't Know" sends the eponymous vocal hook cannoning around the nether regions of a stripped down arrangement, with the snap and pop of percussion smartly giving way midpoint only to arise, in sync with a dizzying low end oscillation. "Outrun" brings the sex, splaying ecstatic vocal cooing over a Mid West meets Mid European house grind. Supple stuff from the Infrasonics team.

Review: The title for West London producer Ikonika's second album Aerotropolis supposedly refers to a city centred around an airport, and was apparently chosen because the album is "about height, getting high and become distant". It supposedly underwent more significant polish than her previous productions and it shows; lead single "Beach Mode" sounds like a classic '80s house track, while "Mr Cake" glimmers with all the sheen of classic US boogie and the shimmering arp of "Eternal Mode" shows hints of disco in its DNA. But Ikonika's connection to the darker strains of UK dance music still shine through; the thick bass and syncopated rhythms of "Manchego" are pure grime while the monolithic "Mega Church" sounds like futuristic, high concept dubstep. Incredible stuff.

Review: One of Planet Mu's most celebrated artists returns to the label with a 25 minute mini LP offering. Ital Tek, aka Brighton-based producer Alan Myson, has a long and storied production history with Planet Mu stretching across three albums and numerous 12? releases since debuting in 2007. Control arrives roughly a year after Myson released third LP Nebula Dance on the label and it's eight tracks find the producer nestled snugly in within the 160BPM crawlspace between footwork and drum & bass. As the decidedly Utopian cover art suggests, Control finds Myson operating under a strong, thick set sci-fi influence and a few listens demonstrate that Planet Mu are still pushing the eminently experimental sonic barriers in a manner that helped establish the label.

Review: Brighton-based synth-step explorer Alan Myson is nothing if not prolific; Nebula Dance is his third full-length in five years. Like previous excursions, Nebula Dance sees him attempting to join the dots between dubstep rhythms, synth-wave melodies, clattering IDM grooves and the shimmering sweeps of classic electronica. It's a sound dripping with positivity, and the result is an album that somehow manages to sound both self-consciously grandiose and impressively intimate. Tracks like "Intercruise" and "Glokk" bristle with retina-sharp melodies and glistening electronics, all atop rhythms that are seemingly pulling you in different directions. It's a delicious combination, that's for sure.
