Review: Ludvig Cimbrelius is an artist of many expressions. Whilst all are deeply rooted in a spiritual and ethereal sound, his most majestic output has arguably come to life through the Illuvia alias. After capping off a debut, self-titled album in 2017 with an atmospheric Drum and Bass track, it quickly sparked a two-year conversation between Ludvig and A Strangely Isolated Place to pursue a full record in this style. Focusing on the far reaches of both the Ambient and Drum and Bass spectrums, Iridescence Of Clouds, combines the two extremities. Soaring, euphoric Ambient textures overlay distant echoes of driving Drum and Bass, before subtly transitioning to drums at the forefront, once again.Typically atmospheric Drum and Bass song structures become blurred, as half-step kick patterns sit amongst more recognizable Amen breaks; or reverb-heavy drums; often echoing the worlds of Ludvig's other aliases - his fingerprint instantly recognizable. The expected breakdowns are often ephemeral; teased slowly into existence and then faded into the background as each track weaves in and out of the two musical spectrums and the progressive emotion of the album unfolds at a glorious, soaring pace.

Review: Past Inside The Present is pleased to announce Repetition Hymns, a double album from the enigmatic Black Swan. Comprised of 19 vignettes, the relatively short tracks impart a strong forward momentum despite the 80-minute runtime. Repetition Hymns is thus particularly well-suited to the temporal distortion of quarantine, in which each day feels like an endless repeating loop. Our bleeding hearts are in need of drone like never before. In the decade since the release of In 8 Movements, Black Swan's 2010 debut, the anonymous producer has built a reputation for his unique brand of tape-based symphonic drones. While the author behind the moniker remains hidden, Black Swan is still able to surprise and captivate. The dark symphonic deconstructions of those early works have slowly evolved, making space for lighter textures and tranquil meditations on sound, expanding the palette of tones while staying true to an identity in flux.

Review: I was initially intrigued by the artwork for Mark's New Routes out of Innerland. It felt so familiar. I had to have a listen. Upon hearing it I was shocked to find out how much I loved the music. It was a beautiful blend of the things I loved about ambient music and what my partner calls "Space Rock". I had never heard Innerland and I was already taking New Routes out of it I needed to buy Innerland. So I did some research - found out Mark was on Sonic Cathedral label and contacted Nat over there who ended up being super helpful and friendly. I was able to get Innerland and A journey through Ambient Innerland in vinyl. It is no wonder I was drawn to the music, a frequent collaborator with Ulrich Schnauss, Mark's work is at once blues, ambient and psychedelic.

Review: For a year, in 2015, Matthew Sage (aka M. Sage) cataloged near-daily recordings made with a very narrow creative constraint; electric guitar and a few pedals, all recorded and mixed directly to cassette 4-track. Eschewing the often complex studio gadgetry and computer editing that he relies on for his primary project, Free Dust became a respite that offered room for technique to fall away and for pure expression to surface. He collected and released more than two-and-a-half hours of this material throughout the year as quarterly digital downloads; this body of work was then re-released as a double-CD in 2019 on his now-defunct label Patient Sounds. Now, Past Inside the Present presents a new collection of Free Dust material, the first proper LP for this project.

Cat: TRS 096.
  1. Life In The Minus
  2. Closeness As Lyricism
  3. Ancestral Lines
  4. The Wooden Sea
Review: Our first release of year 2021 sees the return of much beloved English musician Orla Wren. Recorded in, and inspired and infused by his home in the wilds of the Scottish countryside, his first album in 5 years is entitled "The Blind Deaf Stone" and is a paean to a certain pastoralism, and to the life of this somewhat secluded artist. The four long tracks are distinct excursions into a personal landscape of organic and broken melodic meanderings...the slapping spokes of a bicycle ridden through the tall grass, the swish of the walking stick, the buzz of the fly on the manure and the mysteriously subtle drone like chattering and burbling of the deepest countryside. Plaintive...melancholic...beatific...this is the loveliest of soundtracks to a simple life well lived away from the maddening crowd, and without regret. This is the very limited CD version in an edition of just 100 copies. In a lovely 4 panel digipak, featuring vintage photos of fellow animals long gone. This release was also available in a limited edition, double 10" lathe cut record edition.

Review: Following on from his brilliant Point of View album, INSTINCT shows another beautiful side to his alias. The new LP 'Happening' offers some stunning ambient works. Over the course of the 13 tracks there are a variety of moods and melody's which really encapsulates the imagination upon listening.

Cinematic sounds mixed with electronica brings some of his best work yet. Many field and forest recordings used background noise really brings the music to life here complementing the lush musical elements.

'Happening' will be his third LP in just one year, showing an artist completely dedicated to his craft.

Review: 'Nothing Nil', an electronic EP with three ambient-driving tracks. This EP includes high-quality sounding material which made it hard to be slept on by the end of 2018. You can hear the introspection from the artist himself or a touching from his soul when you realize it's just his self-inquiry through music. It delivers some messages, and you might not need to text back...

Review: There are few things in design (both sound and art) that are more subjective-or more important-than the use of color. 'Color Language' takes the listener through various characteristics of four different colors. Cultural differences can have different reactions to color. A color that cultivates joy may be depressing or melancholic in another culture. The phonic output of Color Language may reveal similar characteristics that leave the listener to decide how the react to each arrangement.

  5. Vitmossa (Waldorf Microwave)
Review: Behind Bandhagens Musikforening we find Michel Isorinne and Martin Sander.
After their debut album on Northern Electronics they are now the protagonists of the 8th physical release on the label One Instrument.

The Swedish duo recorded the beautifully crafted five tracks at Bandhagen Airport in Sweden between 2017 and 2020.

Five tracks each made with one instrument with a clear preference for vintage synthesizers.
We are brought through delicate sonic journeys made with the Roland System 100, a semi-modular synthesizer built between 1975 and 1979, the legendary first digital synthesizer Yamaha DX-7, the Roland SH-101, the Oberheim Matrix 6R and the Waldorf Microwave all four from the beloved 80's.

Bandhagens Musikforening's compositions are a radiant work of quiet minimalism and poetic deliberation. We are brought into an intergalactic hypnotic world where dreams are colored and vivid, where immersive electronics have the ability to create landscapes on your mind board.
