Review: Geordie one-man production line Smoove's Multitrack Reworks series consistently delivers the goods, with the popular funk, soul, breaks and disco DJ/producer dropping fine, Reflex style revisions of both classic cuts and lesser-celebrated gems. He begins volume ten by reworking Steely Dan's 'Peg', a cut beloved of hip-hop DJs thanks to its killer drum-break and use in De La Soul's 'Eye Know'. His version makes great use of the multi-track stems, teasing out the break and slowly building the instrumental elements before unleashing the vocals. It's a genuinely great rework, as you'd expect. Over on the flip, he gives 'Baby Be Mine', with its' crispy drums, glistening disco guitars and squelchy synth-bass, a similar treatment, before successfully chopping up a heavy, percussion-laden deep AOR soul number ('This Time').

Review: It's a remarkable statistic that Payfone - the long-serving production partnership of Phil Passera and Jimmy Day - have not released an album before, despite building up a killer catalogue of singles over the last 12 years. The vinyl-only Lunch, then, is a genuinely significant release .- and, happily, a rather brilliant one too. Featuring an impressive roll-call of guest vocalists and musicians, it sees them deliver six excellent riffs on their analogue-rich, hybrid house/Balearic/nu-disco sound. Review: The Magic Wand label casts another of its sonic spells with an anonymous artist at the helm. It's a knowing blend of many different influences all subtly distilled into a low-key classic. There are elements of yacht rock, Balearic, dub, funk and soul all to be found here. The bassline of 'Crossfire' is slight but funky, the drums sit low in the mix but soon sweep you away on a gentle breeze at sundown and the vocals are effortlessly cool and carefree but really cut through with a quiet charm. Review: Ready for summer festivals, outdoor dances and sun-soaked boat parties, disco's longest serving re-editor Danny Krivit brings his "Mr K Edits" project to Fatty Fatty Phonographics for the very first time. Saluting the sun, he drops a fine, extended edit of suitably big gospel soul/disco number 'Let The Sunshine In', cannily building towards a grandiose, life-affirming conclusion full of righteous group vocals and impassioned male lead vocals. On the flip, Krivit reworks an obscurity from Walter Gibbons' private collection of one-off acetates. Originally pressed to a seven-inch, Krivit's version extends the extra-percussive, jazzy, infectious and celebratory disco obscurity for added dancefloor pleasure. Like the majority of Krivit's edits, it's a masterclass in club-focused rearrangement.

Review: It would be fair to say that Rahaan's Chicago Club Culture series, which here reaches its second instalment, is something of a passion project, inspired as it is by - in his words - "the golden age of Chicago club culture". Our reading of that is the 1970s and 80s, with all of the tracks on show being versions of cuts big on Windy City dancefloors in that period. The double-pack is heavy on tried-and-tested treats, from the expansive, Clavinet-sporting disco rush of 'Do You Like It' and the delay-laden, percussion-heavy brilliance of 'Columbian Dance' (all chanted vocals, punk-funk sax sounds, heavy electronic bass and layered Latin beats), to the crispy and crunchy, Chic-influenced excellence of 'Jealous For No Reason' and the low-down disco hustle of closing cut 'Can't Shake Your Love'.

Review: Even if it's a point worth making, sometimes it needs to be made several times over before it lodges itself in the brain. Whoever was behind this original cosmic disco cut, it hammers home the principle of not stopping the music with such repetitive intent that we have to wonder whether we truly would want to stop the music had we not been inculcated as such. And though we're unsure of its origin, 'Don't Stop The Music' and its loving rerub from Leeuwarden, Netherlands DJ and producer Pete Blaker hears the artist dare not forsake the Northern English interest in such sounds by leasing his wares again to Newcastle label Hot Biscuit. Backed by a suspensory glaciation on the B, 'Ice Cold' with fellow producer Dionisos, you can be sure yet some other aspect of disco gold has also been reliably preserved here.

Homegrown in Chicago - long fecundated Midwestern ground for all things dignified dance music - Maze cultivated D&E out of the local rare groove and soulful house scene in the city, going on to sign many an eminent on the circuit. Review: Last year, Claremont 56 founder Paul 'Mudd' Murphy finally got round to releasing his second solo album, In The Garden of Mindfulness - a sequel some 18 years in the making. Clearly he felt inspired by that experience, because album number three is due later this year. If this teaser 12" of alternative instrumental mixes of future album tracks is anything to go by, it promises to be another musically detailed and vividly realised release. Written and produced with regular collaborator Michele Chiavarini, both cuts are effortlessly classy. Check first A-side 'Mahalo', a gorgeous chunk of Love Unlimited Orcehstra-goes-jazz-funk brilliance rich in flanged guitars, simmering strings, spacey synths and lolloping grooves, before admiring the dub disco-goes-Balearic shuffle of 'Mata Na', where Chiavarini's brilliant musicianship comes to the fore.

Review: The latest Lindstrom album is so good that he appears to have dispensed with the spell-checker for the copy i but it's always such a terrific pleasure to hear new music from the Norse disco titan that even the most uptight proofreader will surely forgive him. Back in the noughties, he and compatriot Prins Thomas flipped the script with their immaculately crafted take on the meta-disco sound. And though the frequency of Lindstrom's output has slowed over time, the quality of his production retains its magnificent allure. Syrius Syntoms begins with a bang i glistening synths, snappy drums and pristine melodics on 'Crkl' i before taking acidic turns via 'Thousand Island Man' and drifting into dreamland on 'Moo)n'. 'These Are a Few of My Favorite Strings' adds a little NY house bump, with evocative keys and low-end groove, while the feel-good arps and bouncy bass of the title track are vintage Lindstrom i full of kitsch sparkle and joyous main room energy. Top marks.

Review: Born and raised in Chicago, Durty Truth Records founder Darryn Jones frequently swims in similar musical waters to his friend and Windy City contemporary Rahaan. It's little surprise then to find him pop up on North-East England re-edit imprint Hot Biscuit Recordings, an outlet that has been releasing Rahaan reworks for several years. A-side 'In The Bush' is a thrillingly heavyweight jam - an Afro-funk meets Afro-disco version of a track made famous by US disco and boogie outfits, which Jones has expertly extended and rearranged in all the right places. B-side 'In The Know', meanwhile, is a take on a more classic-sounding slab of Afro-disco that boasts a superb "walking bassline", extended electric piano solos, sultry strings and a fine male lead vocal.

Review: While he's used the NAD alias for numerous commissioned re-edits and reworks, it's been a decade since Idjut Boy and Record Mission co-founder Dan Tyler last released an EP under the alias. Given his track record as a dub delay and space echo living editor, this surprise outing in the excellent Duca Bianca imprint is a more than welcome development. He begins by dubbing out, extending and rearranging a Germanic new wave gem ('Dow Wordy', with its dead-eyed spoken word vocals), before showcasing a lower-tempo, French language obscurity on the Balearic-not-Balearic shuffle of 'Histoire De Cul'. 'Krapps Smack' sees the Oslo-based Brit add extra layers of echo-laden insanity to a low-slung, extra-percussive punk-funk number, while 'Release The Pigoen' is a spacey, slow-motion AOR gem drenched in effects and saucer-eyed intent.

Review: When it comes to genuinely open-minded and hard-to-pigeonhole Balearic fare, Alex Storrer AKA Lexx remains one of the best in the business. That much is proved by the producer's fourth artist album in six years, the gorgeous and languid Rhythm of Love. Unlike its predecessor, which saw Storrer explore instrumental pastures, Rhythm Of Love is a far more soul-flecked and vocal-heavy affair, with guest singers Laura Quinn, Stimulator Jones and Ella Thompson all making their presence felt across the album. Across 12 gorgeous tracks, Storrer and co sashay between sun-soaked, head-nodding soul ('Special'), lovers rock-inspired synth-soul ('Right By Your Side'), warm dancefloor adjacent sweetness ('Cherish'), reggae-soul ('Rhythm of Love'), organic deep house ('Far Away') and gorgeous ambient soundscapes ('Guiding Star'). Review: Perth, Australia-based collective Dancing In Space have been running their offshoot edit imprint since 2018, though previously they'd only released two - admittedly excellent - EPs. This third volume in the series, delivered four years after its predecessor, is therefore long overdue. As usual, they're scrabbling around in dollar bins for overlooked gold, offering up reworks of largely overlooked and under-celebrated gems. Check first the infectious, cowbell-enhanced disco drums and joyous Philly Soul orchestration of 'Alright Tonight', before moving on to the Soundstream style, loop-powered disco-house weight of 'Feel So Good'. Arguably best of all though is the low-slung, dub disco-propelled weight of piano-sporting B-side opener 'Holdin' Back', whose punchy horns, sinewy strings and heady groove usher in another eyes-closed, Philadelphia International style male lead vocal.

His Versions series through Hot Biscuit has been going since 2025, with a higher-than-usual number of deep cuts (usually six in total for each 12") all given names like "Extended FeelTheFire Mix", "From SideToSide", "CapricornTribe Mix" and "Raw Stripdown Version", evidencing a sense of literary licence and playing on otherwise boxed-in remix titling traditions. Janky sampled refuse of disco-soul and gospel replay over 'Keeep The Beat' like trash-humped radio components larked from wreckage - our fave track here by far.

Review: Wax Digits hits release number five with a tight and tidy two-tracker from the late veteran Robert Ouimet who passed a couple of years ago. Before then he cooked up these gems with his pal and production partner Dave Godin. They are being released as a tribute to the memory of Ouimet and a fine one they are too. 'Plenty' has a raw groove and big chords with jangling guitars adding hints of melancholy that counter the big stabs. Soulful vocals are a great finishing touch then 'Funky Together' is more loose and strident with big horns leading the way under psyched-out chords. Two quality party starters.

Review: Chicagoan crate digger, DJ and producer Mark Grusane has long been regarded as one of the best re-editors in the business, with a long list of labels queuing up to put out his tried and tested reworks. Here be unveils a new project, The Tape Edits, in which he rearranges and revitalised cuts the old fashioned way - IE via the use of reel-to-reel tape, a scalpel and some sticky tape. There's plenty to admire across the six tracks stretched across two slabs of wax, from the high-tempo jazz-fusion-goes-disco hedonism of 'I Can't Come Down' and the killer-grooves-and-analogue synths flex of 'The Fever', to the low-slung disco-funk heaviness of 'Stomp The Floor' and the spacey disco-funk brilliance of closing cut 'Giving Nothing'.

Review: Disco Mind founder and Italian mainstay Paul Older and Melbourne's Brother Julian are back with a second volume of the AMBO series after the first one did so well to launch this label last year. Older's 'Keep Dancing' is an electric and peak-time disco cut with string stabs and hard-hitting drums that sweep you off your feet in an instant. It's a real disco inferno then Julia's 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' reworks an old gem into another fast-paced, melody-packed disco stomper. Two very useful disco bombs indeed.

Review: Death On Wax follow the curious trend of cataloguing their releases as though they're counting down to doomsday, and 'DW00:00:04' only adds another second to midnight with a fresh collaboration between Jaz (John Zahl) and Party Dad, both hailing from the US. Their prior outing for Philly phantasists Universal Cave proved almost as endearing as this higher-level pedal pivoter, whose three functional tracks do the altruistic work of naming themselves after the BPM they clock in at. With classic hardware reverbs echoing a classic 80s essence, and train whistles, synth brasses and adult filmographic electro soul ensuing on the B side, all we can say is that you're in for a rather varied treat.

Review: The classy house heads at B2 Recordings hand things over to Those Guys From Athens for another quartet of silky sounds. 'Triple Double' kicks off with nice lazy drums and sparkling synths that are perfect for early evening warming up. 'Father's Groove' gets more lively with some steely drums macing away beneath loose percussion and 'They Couldn't Stop Me' then gets dee with smeared vocal sounds and hip-swinging drums. Lastly, 'Never Been In Chicago' plays with filters and gently swaying groves to lull you into a reverie. These work on the heart and head as much as heel.

Review: Jolene Cuts stitches together the past and future of French Touch with a series of deft, filter-drenched cuts that pulse with groove and nostalgia. This vinyl-only release distills the essence of the genre, but rather than simply rehashing the well-worn tropes of disco loops and sweeping filters, Danny and Mike manipulate texture and space, creating something that feels alive in the moment. 'Santa' oozes with hazy warmth, its rolling bassline and clipped vocal chops pulling dancers into a deep, hypnotic sway. 'Clear' strips things back to their rawest elementsithudding kick, shimmering chords, and just enough swing to keep bodies locked in. The jittery pulse of 'Expresso' flirts with urgency, teasing out its rhythmic tension before releasing it in waves. On the flip, 'Salsa' stretches Latin percussion into a woozy, off-kilter groove, while 'Do It' harnesses call-and-response vocal snippets to build anticipation before dropping into a groove so thick it practically melts into the speakers. It's a masterclass in movementifluid, tactile, and designed for those who know that house music is as much about feeling as it is about sound.

Review: Cicciolina. Now there's a character. Disco-pop singer, porn star, politician, and ex-wife/muse of legendary shiny balloon artist Jeff Koons i it's fair to say the Italo-Hungarian icon has worn a few hats over the years. Perversion features a selection of reissued tracks from her 80s heyday, including the magnificently titled 'Sexy Porno Shop', which in itself renders the record worthy of consideration. If you hadn't already guessed from the preamble, the music is kitsch, to say the least, with bubblegum vocals, earworm synth lines and generally pulsing tempos. But there are hidden gems: the (ahem) innocent vocals and twinkling melodies of 'Goccioline', the rousing congas and inspired 'no drugs, I love sex, much more sex' vocal of 'No Drugs', and the brilliant cover of the Rolling Stones' 'Satisfaction'. Echoing far, far simpler times, it's either politically incorrect nostalgia or pioneering, sexually liberated abandon. Either way, it's bags of fun.

Review: Who doesn't love a bit of sophisticated soul? We certainly do and it's always good to hear some reworks of the soul great's finest cuts for the dancefloor. And that's what we have here on a new 7" that opens with a disco version of 'Nothing Can Come Between Us' and doesn't go hard, instead building in some gentle drums and lo-fi melodies, swooning vocals and a mystical late night sense of romance. On the flip, we get a lovers rock version of 'Cherish The Day' which adds plenty of lovely guitar lines to bring that island vibe while the shuffling drums lock you in gently.
