Review: Wasia Project are a South Croydon-raised sibling duo - Olivia Hardy (vocals, guitar) and William Gao (keyboards, piano, vocals) - who strike a nice balance in sharing the limelight. This is only their second EP but you can tell they're going to be massive. They've already toured in support of Tom Odell and Laufey and they clearly have the quality to go the distance. 'Somebody Come Through' is as good as anything Sharon Van Etten has released. 'Track 6' brings back memories of listening to Beach House and 'To Get Better' is reminiscent of Matt Maltese. Underneath all the indie references there's a really strong classical training and we hear that on the closing track, with a masterful piano crescendo dimming the lights, but leaving us wanting for more.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks and slight warp ***

American superstar The Weeknd really went big with the guests on 'Popular', his dynamic r&b and pop hit from 2011, by enlisting none other than Madonna and Playboy Carti. As a breakout hit from his mixtape era, it showcases his seductive charm and magnetic presence, drawing listeners into his world of late-night escapades and hedonistic pleasures with infectious beats and smooth vocals that exude confidence and swagger and set the stage for his meteoric rise to fame and influence in the years to come. Flip it over and on the back of this Kiss Classics 7" you will find the equally effective 'Starboy' featuring Daft Punk.

Review: The 40th Anniversary Edition of Wham!'s iconic Christmas hit is a nostalgic trip through the beloved holiday classic. The first track, the original version remains as timeless as ever with its catchy melody and emotional lyrics, capturing the spirit of both love and heartbreak. The 'Pudding Mix' adds a playful, slightly altered twist, giving a fresh take on the classic while maintaining its festive charm. The live version recorded at Wembley Arena in 2006 showcases the energy and warmth of Wham!'s performance, adding an exciting, crowd-fueled vibe. Finally, the instrumental version strips down the vocals, letting the lush production and catchy synths shine in a new light. A Christmas classic!

Review: The 40th Anniversary Edition of this holiday classic offers a delightful blend of nostalgia and fresh takes. The original version remains as timeless as ever, with its catchy melody and bittersweet lyrics that perfectly capture the essence of love and heartbreak. The 'Pudding Mix' offers a playful, slightly altered version, adding a new layer of festive charm while still staying true to the original's spirit. A live rendition from Wembley Arena in 2006 brings a burst of energy, with the crowd's enthusiasm amplifying the track's warmth and excitement. Review: Fronted by Dane-dame Sannie Carlson, Whigfield was backed by various producers and engineers over the years, main among whom was the towering Larry Pignagnoli. *The* song to commemorate Whigfield by, 'Saturday Night' is a Europop and Eurodance trailblazer, harking back, perhaps, to a more glamorous time, where fashion designers rubbed shoulders with models, PR girls and riviera DJs for Italian and Danish upper crusts. Carlson would record 'Saturday Night' after meeting fellow DJ Davide Riva, who was also part of a music production duo. In three days, an (in your mind-) sticky, bubblegum-popping opus would be written, with a nursery-rhyming refrain and a jaunty na-na-na hook epitomising the notion of a "hair-dryer song", a term coined by Simon Cowell in reference to the song as a precursor to Rebecca Black's 'Friday': "the kind of song girls sing into their hair dryers before getting ready to go out."

Review: While Wilco has often regarded EPs as secondary offerings, their latest release, 'Hot Sun Cool Shroud', defies that trend by presenting a cohesive artistic statement reminiscent of a full album. Unlike previous EPs, which were typically promotional in nature, this six-song collection embraces the format's potential, showcasing the band's versatility and depth. The opener, 'Hot Sun', blends sensations of pleasure and existential anxiety, as Jeff Tweedy questions his role in the face of climate change. Each track feels intentional, flowing smoothly into the next while exploring various facets of the band's identity. The two-part structure features instrumental pieces that punctuate the vocal tracks, showcasing a mix of melody and dissonance that reflects their eclectic sound. From the reflective 'Ice Cream' to the energetic chaos of 'Inside the Bell Bones', Wilco exhibits an impressive range, seamlessly blending elements of rock, country and experimentation. 'Hot Sun Cool Shroud' not only stands as a remarkable addition to their discography but also redefines the possibilities of the EP format in their artistic journey.

Review: First released on streaming platforms last summer, Wilco's 'Hot Sun Cool Shroud' EP was uniformly praised by critics. Much more than a stop gap between albums (it arrived roughly 12 months after the outfit's lauded 13th studio full-length, Cousin), the six-track set bristles with inventiveness while flitting between styles and tempos. So, opener 'Hot Sun', a sticky slab of Americana-tinged jangly indie brilliance, is followed by the reverb and solo-laden alt-rock squall of 'Livid' and the gentle, string-laden swoon of 'Ice Cream'. And so it continues, with the fuzzy positivity and weary vocals of 'Annihilation' being joined by the pleasant, impossible-to-pigeonhole experimentalism of 'Inside The Bell Bones' and the twinkling, heartfelt melancholia of 'Say You Love Me'.

The First Letter (16:13)

So & Slow It Grows (4:18)
Review: After Robert Grey's 1990 exit, Wire morphed into WIR, a project designed to wrap up their Mute Records contract with a stripped-down, sequencer-led approach. Graham Lewis took lead vocals while the band reworked their own back catalogue. A chance to reflect on what had been, as opposed to what was yet to be, WIR's lifespan was brief, with only a handful of shows and two conceptual events dubbed I Saw You In Clapham (April 1992) and Vienna (February 1993) rolled into the ensuing campaign. On the Vienna trip, they recorded a sprawling 25-minute session for Austria's ORF, curated by Peter Rehberg of MEGO fame, released by Touch in 1996. This 2025 remaster adds a fresh take on their darkest pop moment, 'So & Slow', reimagined in a live-inspired arrangement with a nod to Taylor Swift's re-recording style.

Chelsea Wolfe's latest album, She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She, is a haunting and emotionally charged masterpiece. Known for her shadowy blend of Gothic industrial, doom, and folk, Wolfe delves deeper into electronic soundscapes with this release, while maintaining her trademark dark, atmospheric style. The album explores themes of severing toxic ties and the cyclical nature of grief and healing. With ten tracks that seamlessly blend industrial textures, eerie vocals and ambient layers, it's an immersive journey from start to finish. Tracks include the opener 'Whispers in the Echo Chamber', where Wolfe's hushed vocals and industrial beats create a brooding atmosphere, and 'Everything Turns Blue', a track full of lyrical power and electronic drive. The closer 'Dusk' is a breathtaking finale with a casual yet explosive climax. While the middle sectionifeaturing 'The Liminal', 'Eyes Like Nightshade' and 'Salt'islows the album slightly, their deep atmosphere still shines. Other highlights like 'House of Self-Undoing' and 'Unseen World' elevate the record to new heights with their driving rhythms and haunting melodies. Overall, this is a powerful, deeply personal album that fans of darkwave, industrial, and ambient metal will adore.

Review: By following in the footsteps of the mighty Giles Martin, who remastered The Beatles' Abbey Road at Abbey Road Studios, Martha Wainwright has achieved a spine-tinglingly great sound in the fabled North London institution on this 20th anniversary remaster. The mixes are so strong that it leaves you free to listen to the majesty of the arrangements and undeniable beauty of her voice, without any pangs that you can get from bad sound design. There are some songwriters who will live on long after they're gone and this Montrealer is clearly one of them. 'Far Away' has gorgeous melodies plump in the song like a pineapple tree ripe for picking. 'Don't Forget' has a bit of a Laura Marling feel and it feels like it pays homage to bluegrass traditions where people would sit around a camp fire and intimately tell their most important life stories, whilst comfortably deflecting from any sadness with an uplifting musical passage. And if anyone was to hum their life story to us, few come higher up the bucket list than Martha Wainwright.

Review: American country star Morgan Wallen returns with his fourth full-length project: a sprawling, near two-hour showcase of pop, rock and acoustic balladry. While his sound remains rooted in Nashville tradition, the Tennessee-born singer taps into broader palettes hereidrawing on slow-burn storytelling ('Just in Case'), radio-friendly duets (like his Tate McRae collab), and swaggering pop-rock hybrids that veer into crossover territory ('I Ain't Comin' Back', with Post Malone). Wallen's lyrical themes stick to familiar territoryiheartache, small-town nights, self-reflectionibut the production, led by longtime collaborators Joey Moi and Charlie Handsome, often elevates the material. Despite its length, the album keeps a steady rhythm, with highlights like 'Superman' offering a rare moment of emotional clarity. For fans, it's an unfiltered look at a man embracing vulnerability while doubling down on chart power. For everyone else, it's proof of Wallen's status as one of the most commercially magnetic voices in contemporary countryiand one who continues to expand his reach.

Review: English new wave popsters Wang Chung return with a brand new career retrospective, reenlightening us as to the very best of Nick Feldman and Jack Hues' patented blend of disco-baller new wave and dance pop. Though packed with easily recognised hits like 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight' and 'Dance Hall Days', this record also makes light of the band's lesser known favourites while arranging each in curatorial fashion, striking a balance of chronology and versatility: Wang Chung were known for their inspirational garrulity, channelling a seemingly endless array of international stylistic curiosities into their pop music: from Burundi shuffle to electronica to Motown to prog, this mix of both radio hits and deeper cuts makes for a desultory listen, where many influences are often reeled off in the space of a single track.

Review: Wang Chung, the London-based band known for their blend of pop, funk and rock, reflects on their four-decade career with a collection that unveils the intricacies behind their chart-topping hits. Tracks like 'Dance Hall Days' exemplify their skill in fusing African rhythms with electronic pop, while 'Everybody Have Fun Tonight' brings together Motown influences and modern dancefloor sensibilities. The release highlights the band's ability to move between vibrant energy and experimental depths, capturing the essence of their diverse musical explorations. It's a celebration of Wang Chung's pioneering spirit, offering both the familiarity of their anthems and the allure of their more adventurous sounds.

Review: Life changed dramatically for The War On Drugs when they released Lost In The Dream in 2014. It was the Philadelphia band's big, breakthrough record, taking the band all over the world and to some of the biggest stages. Since then, their stock has only continued to rise and they've become one of the most beloved rock bands in the world. This live album was recorded on tour between February 2022 through December 2023 in America, UK, Europe and Australia. Intro 'Harmonia's Dream' is their answer to The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' and you can hear the ecstasy running the crowd. 'Come To The City' is one of band leader Adam Granduciel's best ever vocal takes. Unbelievably powerful and peerless. No War On Drugs set would be complete without 'Under The Pressure' and the ten minute-plus version here is a representation of how far they've come - not only in terms of popularity, but in terms of quality as a band. They've not rested on their laurels they've just got better and better.

Review: Adam Granduciel's The War On Drugs have it all - they make astounding albums and are a formidable live act. What's endearing about them is that although they've been top of their game for years, they somehow keep finding another gear and taking their sound to new places. Listening to this live album - which was recorded on tour between February 2022 through December 2023 in America, UK, Europe and Australia - is a great document of how well the band have developed. 'Under The Pressure' - a highlight from their breakthrough album Lost In A Dream - is a goosebump-inducing masterpiece. 'Come To The City' from Slave Ambient, the album they released just before things took off for them, is another highlight - a staggering vocal take that puts Granduciel in the league of Springsteen. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame surely awaits them in the not too distant future.

Review: New Zealand-born dream pop legend Dean Wareham made his name in the Rough Trade-signed Galaxy 500, where his off-kilter vocals and stark/lush songs struck a chord. He then went on to form beloved indie greats Luna, in New York, and is still having success with them today. As a solo artist, Wareham has created this album with Galaxie 500 producer Kramer - the pair working together for the first time in 34 years. It's a long overdue meeting of minds because the album lands with awe-inspiring charm. Listen to its highlight, 'You Were the Ones I Had to Betray', where notes drift with a sense of weightlessness and joy, and you'll get exactly what we mean. This is music that makes life that bit better.
