Review: Now Playing collects ten seminal, choice tracks from the renegade pyschers known as the Stooges' catalogue. With each of these selections culled from a single 2005 remaster, most of the material on this greatest hits record otherwise comes from the Stooges' original self-titled LP. Of course, there are staple hits like 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' and '1969' on there - in which the follies and missteps of raging Amercian youth are portrayed fully, and in the crispest quality yet - but there's also latter-day rollickers on there too, such as Funhouse roarer 'TV Eye', tracking the band's progression to increasingly primal territories. The best part of this remaster has to be the crunch-fuzz of Ron Asheton's early guitar, which sits in the pan mix like a two-headed devil whispering sizzlingly sweet fibs into our ears.
