Review: If there is one thing ZXY knows about, it is unearthing and reissuing Italo disco rarities from the 80s. This one is from 1984 and finds Rank tapping into the perfect nostalgic aesthetics of the time - silvery drums that are not overly produced, wispy synths that bring cosmic energy and some loved-up chords. 'Happy World' comes with a vocal and instrumental version as well as a signature Flemming Dalum remix from the man who never lets us down.

Review: Andy Rantzen is an academic psychologist and former University of Sydney lecturer who has been a fixture in Sydney's underground music scene since his early work with Pelican Daughters when he was producing industrial-ambient soundscapes and experimental tape recordings. Recently, his music has gained renewed attention through labels like Kashual Plastik and Efficient Space. Now he joins Paesaggi Records for a special Halloween release on 7". This unique two-tracker includes custom screen-printed cover art by Fieldink Studio, while Rantzen's continued impact on experimental and ambient music shines through in the sounds.

Monsieur Van Pratt Le Groove - "El Rap Clap O" (Regroove) (4:40)
Bully Boy - "Fear'n'Loathing In Funk Vegas" (4:34)
Ben Jamin - "Old Time Feeling" (4:50)
Review: French funk lovers Acts of Sedition roll out another tasty double 7" here that features some massive joints from around the world. First up is the Latin heat of Rare Cuts's 'Amigo Bracno' with its big, bright leads, string lushness and percolating, percussive groove goodness all finished with a great Portuguese vocal. Monsieur Van Pratt Le Groove's 'El Rap Clap O' (Regroove) hits a little harder but with similar funk playfulness and some great chord work and Bully Boy then offers the raw and strident funk of 'Fear'n'Loathing In Funk Vegas.' Ben Jamin slows it right down with the sun-kissed late night bliss of 'Old Time Feeling.'

Trak 4 Ric (6:21)
Trac 4 Kenny (6:09)
XTC (6:10)
Review: After a three-year break, DJ Sneak and Tripmastaz renew their partnership as Raretwo Inc, in the process making their bow on the latter Respect The Graft imprint. As you'd expect from two masters of their craft, the 33 Chambers EP is packed to the rafters with chunky, bass-heavy and sample-rich deep house workouts. Check first the jazzy, sub-heavy bounce of 'Trac 4 Kenny', before getting your ears around the muscular chunkiness of 'Aaw Lawwd', where rasping blues-man vocal snippets and tight loops ride a bustling beat and booming bassline. Elsewhere, 'Trac 4 Rick' is a lightly druggy, disco-speckled slab of locked-in deep house science, while 'XTC' is a trippy, tech-tinged late-night roller with effects aplenty and lashings of dubbed-out synth sounds.

Review: FlipNJay Records is in a fine run of form right now and here it keeps that going with the first-ever 7" vinyl release of the Rascalz's timeless anthem 'Top of the World' featuring Barrington Levy and K-os. This Canadian hip-hop classic from the late '90s is paired with 'Gunfinga' featuring Kardinal Offishall on the B-side. Both tracks, produced by DJ Kemo, highlight the golden era of Canadian hip-hop and come housed in original artwork by Dedos that reflects the vibrant spirit of the time. This tune takes you to the heart of Rascalz, Kardinal, K-os and '90s Vancouver and Toronto hip-hop.

Burn Out (7:06)
On The Jazz (6:59)
Turn The Page (7:39)
Review: Rats On Acid's Triple A debut 'Burn Out' hears the occasional ear-amazer emit an ecstatic edict in acid hardcore, teasing out a sad but true fact of the post-industrial, post-post-modern condition: burnout. Ah, yes burnout. That tired old, laborious effect of overwork and overshot ambition. How do we combat burnout? First of all, redirect our energies to skanking anodes of acid hardcore, not overtime at work. The EP's title track is mad fun, bringing acrimonious acids and aerodrome reverbs, while 'On The Jazz' restricts the mix-space to a narrow shaft, up which a determined, high-impedant melodic current climbs. 'Turn The Page' ends on a strangely excited, cacophonous stasis; we're amazed this one was made recently, as it has a real convincing 90s energy to it.

Cell Out - "Passion" (5:47)
Cell Out & Sleeper Cell - "Good Life" (5:28)
Review: Break The House, the turbo-charged offshoot of Rave 2 The Grave, reworks two stone-cold anthems into modern rave weapons. Cell Out's take on 'Where Love Lives' strips things down to bare percussion and weighty low-end before the original's euphoric vocal and piano hook come surging back in full force. Meanwhile, teaming up with Sleeper Cell, they flip 'Good Life' into a break-laced juggernaut, distorting the bass and stretching the groove into something rougher and sweatier while keeping the heart of the classic intact. A high-energy, no-nonsense update built for the peak-time rush.

The title track, 'Good Feelin''. drives with piano-led, peak-time energy, blending techno with that unmistakable rave spirit. It's a hands-in-the-air anthem built to lift the crowd. On Side-2, 'Heart Break' ups the tempo with a high-energy house-breakbeat fusion. A classic rave breakdown and emotive piano lines give it a timeless feel, ensuring it hits the sweet spot for dancefloors. 'Good Feelin'' is a great choice for anyone craving that classic rave rush with modern punch.

Lou Rawls - "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" (Kenny Summit, Frankie Knuckles & Eric Kupper's Brawls Deep unreleased remix)
Kenny Summit, Frankie Knuckles & Eric Kupper - "Loving You" (feat Yasmeen)
Review: This special 12" sampler, part of the forthcoming compilation, taps into the timeless spirit of the Paradise Garage with two unreleased collaborations that showcase the late Frankie Knuckles' legacy. On the A-side, the final production from Knuckles, alongside Kenny Summit and Eric Kupper, delivers a soulful, uplifting remix of Lou Rawls' "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine." It's pure house brilliance that captures the essence of the Garage sound. On the flip, the trio reunites for "Loving You," a Motown-inspired anthem featuring Yasmeen's powerful vocals. These tracks, which have been staple spins for DJs like Cajmere and Sonny Fodera, form part of a larger collection that celebrates house music's rich history, with remixes of iconic tracks. The cover art, designed by Alexander Juhasz, adds an extra layer of cultural significance to this must-have release.

Muchacho Barrigon (2:43)
Review: This 7" reissue brings together two scorching salsa gems from the early 70s, showcasing the vibrant energy and infectious rhythms of Ray Perez, aka "El Loco". Perez, a true innovator and iconoclast, is a revered figure in the Latin music scene, his influence spanning decades and continents. These two tracks, originally released in Venezuela, capture the essence of his sound, a fusion of Cuban influences, New York salsa, and Venezuelan flair. 'Muchacho Barrigon', a dancefloor filler that transcended borders, is a testament to Perez's ability to craft irresistible grooves. Its pairing with the equally infectious 'Guaguanco Del Adios' makes this 7" a must-have for any salsa enthusiast or DJ seeking to ignite the dancefloor.

Story About The Murderer
Review: This electrifying release offers a compelling journey through futuristic and otherworldly soundscapes. Side-1 opens with 'Yeli Mtkiva', a demented, sci-fi-inspired blend of techno and electro, pulsating with eerie textures and mechanical rhythms. It's a track that feels ripped from a cyberpunk dystopia. Following it, 'Triponfish' shifts the tone with celestial melodies and shimmering chimes, underpinned by an acid-tinged groove reminiscent of The Exaltics' atmospheric craftsmanship. On Side-2, 'Derealize' introduces crisp production with subtle trance elements, creating a hypnotic flow that's both driving and ethereal. The closing track, 'Story About The Murderer', stands out with its narrative-like progression. It's a dark, cinematic piece, evoking the tension of a sci-fi thriller. Each track offers a unique layer to the record's overarching futuristic vibe, making this an enjoyable trek into outerspace.

Kiss (3:51)
Review: Ricky Razu hails from Belgium and has been recently tipped as one of the forerunners of Belgium's next house musical wave, building on a vast background of jazz, boogie, hip-hop and disco. 'Cosmic Waves' packs six glossy house aerials onto a single slab, whisking the listener away into a jetstream of breathalised pads and reverent plucks. Echoes, but only echoes, of classic rave/piano house are exposed on opener 'Running (Back To You)', while the developmental thrust of the EP evidences itself in the cold, lunar storm that is 'Cosmic Waves', not to mention the passerine choral hums of 'Bloom'. Then the B goes tricky, harking back to both 90s organ house and 20s future downtempo with 'Go With The Flow' and 'Need To Know' respectively, before rounding off on a right-on, but slowly moving neo-breaks come soul bloom with 'Kiss'.

Review: With both his experimental yehyeh and dancefloor focused ninih labels, founder Pieter Janson prefers to space out releases. This quality over quantity approach has thus far paid dividends, with the slim catalogues of both labels simply bursting with quality. Remarkably, this outing from sometime Kalahari Oyster Cult contributor RDS is only the sixth ninih EP in total. Predictably, it's superb, with the Amsterdam-based producer flitting between moody and ghostly breaks ('Bfc01'), lightly bleep-inflienced tech-house purism ('Vnecktechtheme'), heavily psychedelic late night intoxication (the alien-sounding chords, immersive pads and hallucinatory electronics of 'Tpssty'), and deep, spaced-out, hip-hop tempo electro ('Bfc04'). By jove, Janson's done it again!

Review: RDS's latest collaboration with Polychrome brings us a collection of atmospheric and emotive techno creations. The A-side kicks off with 'Laak,' a deep and driving track inspired by RDS's recent DJ set in Den Haag, with its resonant reese-bass forming the track's core. The two producers decided to dedicate the entire A-side to this cut, paying homage to the classic 45-side format. The B-side delves into more introspective territory, with 'Underwater (Dream Mix)' featuring ethereal pads and trancy melodies, before 'Reassociate' caps things off, a nod to early 2000s IDM with its intricate rhythms and nostalgic vibe.

Review: Thousand Yard Stare marks re:ni's third 12" release and her debut on the RE:LAX label which is also the name of the club night she co-runs with Laksa. Following previous releases by Harba, Jurango and Laksa himself, the EP continues the label's exploration of high-tempo club music that blends the hardcore continuum's energy with precise sound design and technical craftsmanship. The title references the dissociative state caused by trauma and explores how music expresses emotions beyond words. Sonically, the EP follows a signature bass-driven, vocal-led style in the 140-150 BPM range. It bangs, for sure.

Known for his razor-sharp production and deep reverence for jungle's golden era, Reaper delivers exactly what fans crave: fast-paced breaks, intricate rhythms, and dark, atmospheric layers. The EP opens with Energy Movements, a frenetic yet polished track that showcases Reaper's signature fast-paced, rolling breaks. Review: A powerful techno EP on Germany's Habitat Recordings, further solidifying Recondite's reputation for blending genres with finesse. Side-1's 'Edge' features his mastery of peak-time energy, delivering a dynamic track that merges robust techno beats with subtle trance touches, creating a powerful and beautiful experience suited for the main stage. On Side-2, 'Nova' dives into a deeper groove, gradually evolving into an electrifying banger that feels both fresh and timeless. This EP hints at a possible revival of trance influences, but more than anything, it showcases Recondite's unique ability to fuse classic and contemporary elements. 'Nova' is another impressive release in Recondite's ever-expanding discography, proving his skill in crafting captivating techno landscapes. This is one dangerous EP.

Review: Italian artist Recut is back with a new four-track outing that comes steeped in the lovably mad energy of acid, the enduring rawness of the Chicago underground and the drum sounds of New York. He has been active since the 90s so has a great through-line to these foundational styles but makes them his own here. Interestingly he started producing with turntables and mixers after being inspired by DMC champion so brings a real live feel to his sounds. 'Narcotic Tango' is a full-throttle pumper, 'Acid Street' layers undulating 303 lines into silky and elastic drums and 'Jack O Acid' gets more intense and in your face. 'Feel The Heat' shuts down with some trippy synth colours.

Four years on from the series' second instalment, Van Naste returns with three more raw, stripped-back jams that variously doff a cap to early Chicago house, the Motor City, and formative UK bleep techno. The Belgian DJ/producer begins with 'The J Principle', a bleeping and bass-heavy workout featuring a spoken word vocal paying tribute to Windy City house originator Jamie Principle, before reaching for acid style synth bass, sparkling keyboard stabs and vintage drum machine beats on 'Raw Shit'. Over on side B, Van Naste slams down the hypnotic, piano stab-sporting techno looper 'Troisentrois Groove'.

Review: Prelude is the don when it comes to the dubbier end of disco in the 80s. So many of its releases were staples of the key New York City scene at the time and they have kept their charm over the decades. 'Beat The Street' from Sharon Redd is one of them - a track doused on echo and reverb with dancing synths layered up over analogue drums, cold claps and with her fine vocals soaring high and bright. The vocal is where it's at but the paired back instrumental is also a fine groove for some retro feels.

'Ship Ahoy' is as laid back and immersive as roots gets with its swaggering low ends and sparse, ruminant chords. Review: A journey through dark, futuristic techno. The opening track, 'Para El Conjunto De Las Esferas', is a melodic, high-energy builder that sets the tone with its heavy beat and a rising sense of anticipation. 'Verdugo Del Rey' follows with tribal, mechanical rhythms, creating a gritty, intense atmosphere driven by dark, industrial beats. On Side-2, things begins with 'Morador De La Oscuridad', a sci-fi-inspired track that takes a hold the listener in otherworldly, atmospheric sounds, evoking a sense of deep space exploration. The title track, 'El Retorno De Saturno', brings in dub elements and swirling techno textures, creating a dramatic yet reserved vibe. The balance between its atmospheric qualities and tightly controlled energy makes it a standout piece, offering both mystery and power. Overall, 'El Retorno De Saturno' EP blends complex, layered sounds with a sense of space and movement, making it a compelling listen for fans of experimental techno.

His take on techno is nuanced and more than just physical. 'Para El Conjunto De Las Esferas ' has an underlapping rhythm that hypnotises while backlit pads hint at celestial energy. 'Overdrive' off-sets more pixelated synths and raw machine rhythms and last of all, 'Reverie' has a sense of impending doom that keeps you very much locked in.

What The World Needs Now Is Love (Silent Dream version) (4:32)
Review: Reggae Disco Rockers are Japan's leading reggae and lover's rock band. They have been active since they dropped their first ever single way back in 1996 and since then they have put a steady stream of sounds including six full albums and many more singles. This one is a cover of an absolute soul classic. 'What The World Needs Now Is Love' here becomes a slow, weighty dub with splashy cymbals, nice incidental melodies and a re-sung vocal that conveys the same emotions. Flip it over for a more steamy, sax-laced Silent Dream version.

Hear My Song (3:00)
For The Love Of Hunice (3:15)
Review: Originally released in 1968, this debut 45 from the Reggie Sadler Combo would soon go on to become a verified bona fide Northern Soul classic in the UK. Fronted on vocals by the lesser-known but multifarious talent Reggie Sadler - variations on the Combo name also include the Reggie Saddler Family and the Reggie Sadler Revue - 'Hear My Song' is a pacey master-classic case study in effortlessness and penitence, in which the narrator begs for his baby's return to him. The star of the show, in our opinion, is 'For The Love Of Hunice', which offers a comparatively mellow, instrumental Hammond organ purr set to funk. Now available again thanks to this reissue by German label outcropping Tramp.

Review: WeMe has a fine tradition of offering up music from emerging talents. They follow that MO again here with a debut EP from Rehab333, a creative newcomer and graduate of the Rephlex School Academy. Trained under the guidance of one other than Aphex Twin aka Richard D James and Dr. Chris Jeffs, Rehab333's mastery of analogue machines shines from the off. He packs in plenty of innovative melodies here which makes it all the better than this previously cassette-only release now comes on vinyl. Next to those zippy, reflective, pensive melodies, he lays down plenty of corrugated and funky electro rhythms, acid flashes and warp-speed drum patterns.

Hold The Door Please (4:48)
Review: Berlin-based Nastia Reigel contributed a track to one of this label's various artists releases last year but now steps up with a full EP that is all her own. It is a fine chance for her to show her skills and that she does: 'What Can You Do' has a unique mix of hammering sounds, hulking great kicks and textural smears that are all dirty and industrial yet funky. 'If So Then' is totally different - a stripped back, deep, linear techno roller, while 'Over &' is weighty, loopy dub with a raw 90s aesthetic. 'Hold The Door Please' is another one built from well-designed loops that is sure to rattle the walls of any warehouse with its monster kicks and glitchy FX.

Review: Earlier in the year, James Baker brought his long-running ReKaB project to Andy Vaz and Alessandro Vaccaro's long-running Yore imprint for the first time. This speedy sequel is similarly assured and quietly impressive. He begins by wrapping vintage drum machine beats and an angular, LFO-style bassline in unfeasibly spacey chords, bubbly electronics and woozy vocal samples ('My Inspiration'), before treating us to a warmer and more melodious slab of analogue deep house loveliness ('Soul Brother 88'). Over on the flip, 'Future Times' sees Baker pepper a hypnotic deep house beat in intergalactic, Motor City-influenced synth sounds and bubbly acid motifs, while title track 'Random Fragments' is another classy, far-sighted deep house-meets-deep techno number rich in superbly spacey sounds. Music for the head and the feet!

Review: After a lengthy hiatus, Spanish label theBasement Discos returns with a collection that fuses the essence of 90s house with contemporary flair. Rekun opens with 'Party Jean', a playful track driven by infectious rhythm. DJ Merci's 'Smack That' builds momentum with its punchy bass and relentless groove. Mindchime's 'Changes' shifts into deeper territory, offering intricate layers and subtle energy. Deepmore's 'All Night Long' closes with an unyielding, hypnotic drive that'll keep feet moving long into the night. A handy blend of old and new, proving theBasement Discos' unwavering influence in today's vinyl scene.

Review: Resavoir's return is a reflective piece that evokes the haze of distant memories. Originally commissioned by Chicago's Public Media Institute for their 2020 Quarantine Times publication, the track now sees wider release following Resavoir's 2023 self-titled LP which came after their 2019 debut of the same name. Composed by bandleader Will Miller in collaboration with designer Crystal Zapata, it draws inspiration from the 1960s and 70s Italian film composers like Piero Umiliani and Alessandro Alessandroni. The track blends Miller's piano and synthesiser with Lane Beckstrom's double bass and Peter Manheim's drums to make for a wistful, cinematic soundscape.
